I installed 24.04 in a VM on my Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 4 with RTX 3060 and it was a bad experience. I experienced most of the same bugs you had on stream and it was very frustrating. I only had it installed for about 30 minutes and it was a miserable experience. For some foolish reason I decided to swap out the SSD to do a bare metal test on the X1E and I immediately began having thermal issues. Granted, the X1E|G4 is known for having a pretty bad thermal design, but this was a wild experience. This was the first Linux distro that had as poor thermal performance as Windows 11. Mind you, this is with the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU having been replaced with Thermal Grizzly KryoSheets. I had the machine hitting 78-80C with nothing but Gnome Software running and installing flatpaks. This is crazy. This machine was hitting those temps running Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440P Ultra in Nobara 39. Needless to say, but, this machine is now back on Nobara 39.

I've been using Void for about two years now and I'm so impressed with the new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS that I'm planning on moving over to it. I don't normally like Ubuntu or GNOME but this new release is so good.

Plus I never could get a web browser to not have very slow response times. Nice video. Well said. Thanks.

I see lots of people asking which distro to go to for their first one, with gaming being on their use-case list. I see people recommending Ubuntu and Mint a lot, but honestly I always push them towards Garuda or Nobara. Recently I've heard someone say don't recommend garuda since it's arch-based, but I don't see why that's a problem. I think some people just find the word "Arch" scary. It doesn't work like Arch, it specifically has GUI tools for newer users, as well as updating the system, manually installs drivers(all very important for Linux newbs!). Hell it comes preconfigured with pretty much everything a gamer would need off the bat. I think nobara and garuda are way better to recommend to beginners who want an out of the box Linux experience and want to game.

      Recently I've heard someone say don't recommend garuda since it's arch-based, but I don't see why that's a problem :
The problem is maintain the system. Not enough to do pacman -Syu on arch. You need to use pacdiff for the pacnew, sometimes you can have some surprises like recently the need to reconf your locales etc... It is not for beginners.

Well I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS a few days back and it seems to run fine for the most part; except that can't upgrade Snap Store problem. Other reviewers are saying give it like 3 months for them to remove bugs, etc. If you don't like Snap, then just install Flatpak and Flathub. I would say this Ubuntu 24.04 > 22.04. I play this browser game Tanki Online MMO and I can get 165 fps fine with Firefox; but I installed Chrome like 60fps (not sure why right now and yes set the chrome://flags and enabled Graphic Hardware acceleration).
Ya, you are talking about Explicit Sync fix coming soon for Nvidia, so this will help Nvidia work with Wayland. When I installed Ubuntu 22.04 I could only use X11 not Wayland (lag out slow) but I was using a Laptop with RTX 3060. Now, I have a new system with AMD 7800xt and seems to work quite good. I just wish there was something like Adrenaline AMD software for Linux; but works good with Windows 11.
I was thinking of getting Cachy OS; but I need to learn about Linux I think. I just have a 1440p/165Hz monitor so what I have is good enough for now.
Thanks A1RM4X for that Review stream 3-4hrs long; so funny I reacted the same too while installing ERASE DISK and select which disk. I also had to install a 2nd time Ubuntu, cause my grub files or partition list on my Ubuntu SSD got corrupt I think when I ran Disk part in Windows 11 (showing a very old partition list) use the newer Win11 Disk Management.

It is simple to update all snaps just type: "snap refresh" and all your snaps will be updated including the snap-store.
By the way I stopped using dual booting in 2009, Windows frequently created problems during updates. Run one of the two in Virtualbox.

You can kill the snap store process then just refresh the snap

Or you can just type snap refresh in the terminal and it updates the snap store. A weird bug anyways.

Maybe video about ntsync as alternative for fsync or esync?

I prefer Ubuntu over Mint and I think Ubuntu brings a lot to the table that's ultimately going to benefit not only Ubuntu but also other projects in the long run (like triple buffering vsync for Gnome). Snaps are also working pretty good despite some shortcomings and they do have their pros over Flatpak and vice versa. I think it's fine that Ubuntu is doing it's own thing, similar to what they did with Unity. Back then ppl were complaining about Unity because they were doing their own thing and then it was gone and folks mourned its demise. The value in Ubuntu is most certainly there.

Ya, I am doing sort of good with it, basic installation. It is better to put 1 OS per SSD than use 1 SSD for 2 OSes.... cause I am worried Windows 11 when it does updates it will corrupt the parition tables or efi grub partition. I had to reinstall it again, cause when I went into Windows 11 the old disk part had old partition table and it automatically did something to my Ubuntu SSD; so when I boot up I get the GRUB rescue screen. I tried to fix to ls (hd1,gpt2) couldn't even see the root partition. So I just reinstall it all and it worked. I am trying to migrate away from Windows.

Funny, Ubuntu review and SNAPS had to be mentioned (not for the better).

I suppose Ubuntu is good enough for people with an amdgpu and nvidia 4060/ti... A better scheduler is missing also. Well. Snaps are not for gaming... And I don't understand why they absolutely want to force it to snap (because steam auto update itself as deb... so, why ????)

Kubuntu indeed had an driver mess, even after manual driver change, it's not working correctly. The 550 should hopefully fix it.

It was working nicely from 22.04.2.. I feel.. so let's wait like 10 months. 😄
At least we should wait .1 release, so 4 months.
