    What is Linux? It's common to think that Linux is a single operating system when you've used Windows or Mac all your life.
    Every operating system for computers, cell phones, TVs and the like has a piece of software called the Kernel. It is responsible for keeping the entire operating system in order. It's like the core of the OS. The Linux you hear about is this Kernel, and all the operating systems that use this kernel are called Linux distributions.
    The criteria used for this choice were stability, similarities to the Windows graphical environment and, of course, personal taste.
    Website for testing Linux distributions online: distrosea.com/
    With that said, when did you migrate to Linux? Which distribution do you use and why?

      Haha. It's a good choice, of all those on the list, Linux Mint is one of the best options for the average Windows user. It has a few bugs here and there, but so does Windows, and nothing that an update or a reboot won't fix. The debian version, in this case.

    Windows 10 will be the last good Windows Operating System it's sad growing up I loved Windows but I hate what they did to Windows 11 the start menu is worse I am not using a paid for software just to change it and I would rather stay on Windows 10 or move to Linux at this point I am almost done with Steam wanting to go back to console. Microsoft is making it HARDER to upgrade now and I am not looking forward to a Copilot+ PC forcing Windows down your throat. Something needs to be done about this to me Windows 10 will be missed but it's not as good as Windows 7 ever will be it's sad you have to use Linux because Microsoft fails at meeting customer satisfaction it's either Linux or stay on a dying Operating System maybe I just won't care anymore and go back to the basics of a computer and emulate my games in the future. I am loving Linux and Windows but if I stayed on a dying Windows Operating System it would be Windows 10 I am still gonna attempt a dual boot with Linux to future proof Windows 10 because I can still always go back if I feel like doing so I have no issues with switching to Linux I am not using that cluster fuck of a Windows 11 Operating System sorry guys but I think I am thinking about being done with Windows all together idk yet I need to process this.

    • @KnowledgeExplainedIn
      @KnowledgeExplainedIn  2 месяца назад

      I think along similar lines. I've always used Windows, starting with the legendary Windows XP, then 8. I never had the pleasure of using Windows 7, my machine wouldn't run it.
      Windows 10, despite the minor bugs, was the best Windows for me. Windows 10 was supposed to be the last, but Microsoft's greed spoke louder.
      And now with its end... anyone who wants to have a minimum of privacy has no choice, they'll have to go to the Linux world or take the risk of staying on a system that will no longer receive security updates. After the end of support in October 2025, using Windows 10 will only be for very specific cases.
      Fortunately, compared to 5/10 years ago, Linux has improved a lot. It now has greater compatibility than before. The biggest obstacles I see for new Linux users would be program compatibility, system problems that can only be solved via the terminal and the lack of support for popular programs that you won't find in any Linux distribution: Adobe packages, FL Studio, Capcut... there are ways to get around this and use them, but not natively.

      Haha. The little bit of Fedora I used (silverblue) I hated. I found the store too slow to load all its configurations first time. In addition, I haven't adapted to the Gnome interface, even though it's very pretty on Fedora.

    People thirst for a real alternative to Windows like you can't believe! Problem is thus, the moment your regular Joe encounters the Linux terminal, and can't get by it to get something done he'd have absolutely no problems with on Windows, that's the last time he's gonna be bothering himself with Linux. Tons of IT expects don't bother themselves with Linux, since it has only 4% PC users of 2024! I think much sooner a version of a finally functional enough Android x86 is gonna fix this problem, than any PC Linux distro developer, cause creating a user-friendly system for normal human beings would be some unforgivable sin. You must be worthy of your Linux distro! Earn it by typing your ass off in the password prompts and terminal!

    • @KnowledgeExplainedIn
      @KnowledgeExplainedIn  2 месяца назад +4

      There are plenty of Linux distros that don't require you to know the terminal to use the system. Is it good to learn about it? Absolutely, but it's not a mandatory requirement for using any Linux distro, not anymore.
      What's more, in my opinion, the real problem with Linux (which isn't even the fault of the Kernel or the distros themselves) is compatibility. As you mentioned, compared to Windows, very few people use Linux, and most large companies don't want to provide support for Linux systems, which is terrible. Because otherwise, Linux is just as functional as Windows or Mac, but compatibility is what leaves something to be desired. Fortunately, it's much better these days, and with Valve's initiative to come into the Linux world, I think that in the future (who knows), more companies will come to Linux too.
      Just don't expect big brands like Adobe, forget about them.

    • @arthurrock4979
      @arthurrock4979 2 месяца назад +1

      Theoretically, you don't need the terminal, but practically, you won't solve even a minor problem without it. Regular people want to use a computer to type, not type to be able to use a computer. Can it be done on Linux? Android proved it can. Once we get a functional enough version of an Android x86, with Wine, Bottles, etc, out of the box, people are gonna look back at Windows like at some bad nightmare! I seriously doubt anybody likes Windows, wants to use it, likes Microsoft, nor Bill Gates, and his genecidal aspirations for the world he made all of his billions off of. Such an Android x86 would open an enormous market, with software developers having no choice but to play along with, including Adobe. Really, people are beyond sick of Microsoft.

      Yes, I thought that Big Linux would be the best option, because it's really complete, but after using it for a few hours, I noticed some annoying bugs, but it was certainly due to the version of kde plasma 6, because before, on plasma 5, it seemed much better. Maybe I'll make another video about other better alternatives, like Linux Lite, CachyOS, EndeavourOS.... There's Nobara, but as it's made by just one person (or 3), and when you download it, it says that the distro is made as a hobby, so I won't include it.
