  • @timalete
    @timalete Год назад +11

    It's about time that I do more than give thumbs up and hit subscribe. I am more than happy to be a Patreon! After a 23 year navy career I picked up a new 1986 Sony Handicam, got on my bike in Utah and headed to Alaska. What followed was was 37 years of bike touring and triathlons. Too many miles on the bike to record but 3 times to Kona for the world championships! I took a lot of videos! Edited some and gave them to those that shared the variety of adventures. I thought that when I was old, now 80, I would live out the rest of my life watching my old videos. I have mild impairment Alzheimers now which makes every old video new again! Actually, not so much! What I enjoy now are watching much younger ones doing things that I have done and some things that were always on my bucket list. Thanks for being among a selected few on RUclips that carry me away to places and adventures I have known and many that I dreamed of. Cats were always my dream boat. I had a Hobie and a 28 footer. I can say been there, done that to so many of places in so many ways but I refuse to turn a rocking chair to view the past, I prefer to look into the future and join you on the continuing adventure! Thanks for taking me on as virtual crew!

    How much effort & cost would it require for a yacht manufacturer to put markings on the hull indicating safe lifting locations???

    Its interesting that just like every car on the planet the jacking points are usually marked on the sills/body, but sail boats dont seem to have lifting points marked on the hull. It would seem like a good idea to paint a few discrete strap markers on the hull above the waterline to guide haulouts for the future?

    • @MichaelBuck
      @MichaelBuck Год назад +2

      Actually all manufacturers do in fact mark points on their boats and all owners should know exactly where those points are located on their boat. Usually it's located on a bulkhead that can take the load properly. You usually will NOT see marks are on the hull itself becuase the hull gets repainted frequently as well as anything below the waterline is going to get covered in growth and obscure the mark anyway.
      IMHO owners should put a witness mark on the hull above the water line, possibly on deck, after every repaint to make it easier to get the exact point for the next haul out. However, rarely have heard of a disaster occurring during a haul-out via a strap lift as most haul-out services understand where to put the straps.
      My advice is that every owner should know exactly where those points are on their type of boat and mark it themselves becuase invariably you will forget where they are located the next time you haul-out. And I agree it would be a nice gesture by manufacturers to put some sort of permanent indicator on each hull to make it easier to locate the haul-out strap locations.

    Joyous Easter. Every boat should have markings showing hoisting or lifting areas. Just like ocean liners have tug/no tug markings. Can't imagine why this is not implemented on new boats or marked on refits.

    3rd That's a heavy boat. If you were lighter than you could sail in much lighter winds. Time for an upgrade into a performance catamaran. Personally, I think that an aluminum catamaran would be the best way to go. I like both of Tim Mumby designs. The Cyber 48 and the Odisea 48. I'll be getting an Odisea 48.
