- Coming from All Access LIVE, Daniel Kayser gets a never-before-seen gameplay demo of the new game!
For everything happening at E3 go to GameTrailers: www.gametrailer...
no this is a prequel which means that it takes place many years before both arkham games
(Cont'd) Second, just because Rocksteady isnt doing Origins, doesnt mean it shouldnt be a pre-continuum (i know , not a real word) of the exact same focus as it originally was. (example - Star Wars) if they went with a entirely new skin and mapping it wouldnt be the same feel. Now to explain Detective Mode "advanced" in a prequel, Batman may have already had the tech. for video augementation playback when doing Arkham Asylum, but again, the area is so small it wasn't a needed item on him.
For one, Warner Bros. owns DC Comic material, so they took an opportunity which was launched by Rocksteady's success. Warner Bros. will do things like this, (possibly because simply they are riding RS's successful coat-tails) taking back their product and add onto it with such ideas. to see how it is in detail, think about the locations Detective Mode was/is used (in Arkham Asylum for example, a small area doesnt need video playback, plus in Origins it was happening during the scene unfolding)
I guess it's just like the interviewed developer said: it's about preserving the good things and improving what's not perfect yet. With the things shown in this walkthrough, i feel definitely safer in saying this might be a great game. I like the new thugs you get to fight and the new detective mode.
Within the first few minutes they introduce new enemy types, new environments, new gameplay dynamic (Crime in Progress). I also don't see how its a bad thing that graphics wise it stays within continuity.
Haha, thanks for the support (: Also I am very pleased to see Kevin Conroy return for the next Rocksteady game. He's who I grew up with as Batman after all (:
i don't see it as them playing safe, for one, Arkham City was Rocksteady's baby, and they didn't want to do a prequel, So they are working on a 3rd installment (possibly), so WB Games was given Rocksteady's specs of their program and digital graphic mapping of their original Arkham City game WB Game's game will match perfectly and have a seemless feel and connection exactly for the purpose of being a connected series together, with tweaks Rocksteady didn't think of. I can explain in detail why.
It has a story as long as the original game, it has new enemy types, at least one new gadget, has more things going on in the open world, new side missions, and a completely different game world. It has the Arkham city map before the earthquake, and a completely different section with more skyscrapers and modern design. And that's all we know about so far. This game could not have just been DLC.
I'm glad there's lot that's similar, it's improving on what's already brilliant
What do you mean no? Kevin confirmed that he was working on an Arkham game, and that it wasn't origins. And since they won't want that game taking from this one's spotlight it most likely will be announced after origin is released. And since Origins is released around the same time frame as the next gen consoles, it seems a likely possibility.
My guess as to why they went with a prequel is to showcase more villains and an inexperienced Batman. By the events of Arkham City most of the villains like Black Mask and Falcone aren't as legitimate of a threat to Batman that they once were, especially a veteran Batman. But they are already making another game also, so perhaps that will be the sequel to City you want.
Your right, i noticed it too. Its like a strange pastel type color. I hope this is just a pre rendered thing and wont show up in the final product.
i don't know if it's just me , but i would love a batman game based on Nolan's trilogy , voiced by the original actors themselves , with hans zimmer's soundtrack and crysis 3 graphics , that would be so EPIC ...
Something that would be a cool addition to the game would be an exhaustion system. If batman takes down too many people with physically gruelling takedowns then he becomes more susceptible to damage, moves slower, and loses some accuracy. He can replenish his stamina by staying still in the shadows.
I liked the changes between asylum and city. It adapted well. This WB not wanting to mess up the good formulae.
Looks like it will be fun.
The one thing I hate about free roaming superhero games is that moment when you realize you've done the same side-mission like 50 times.
I don't know how video games could fix that.. maybe new DLC side missions every week?
Well he's younger and more agile, also more headstrong and less tactical. It makes perfect sense, he'll attack a problem head on without thinking much about the ripple effect etc. This is a younger more brash batman and a contrast to the meticulous and omnifocused detective who will indirectly attack several aspects simultaneously instead of just bulldozing to complete one sole objective.
the suit looks better because batman supposedly is using different armor pieces and putting them together. in arkham asylum and arkham city batman is wearing one entire piece of armor but in origins he's wearing a lot of different armor.
In the game you can clearly see the rest of Gotham city outside the Arkham City walls. Arkham city was a relatively small cleared out area.
And what did AC add to AA so much? Some new gameplay mechanics and an open environment, that's it. This will add new moves, new gadgets and more locations, basically the same thing. Why nobody was complaining back then, but they do now? Because they simply enjoy doing it.
That is the point. This is how it works:
It is a deal.
The developers give us a fun game if we give them money.
The game is fun, the stories are AMAZING, and they are adding new things each time.
It is fine with me.
Guys the full 30 minute demo has been uploaded if you can't find it go on my favourites and its there, please check it out its awesome!!!!
Hmm.. that remote Batclaw alone adds a new dimension as to how players approach combat especially when it comes to stealth. Me Likey!
I know. I always wished that superhero games had first person because I feel like it would feel like you were doing the things they were. Not the entire game in first person, but a first person option. Could you imagine how much fun a spiderman game would be webslinging around the city in first person?!
That new claw gadget is freaking sick
I was so worried that WB Games would change up the formula and make it very different from Arkham City. So relieved that they kept it the same. All they need to do now is create an amazing story and this will be a must have.
You could play that up to the idea that batman packs different artillery for different scenarios.
Arkham episodes are MASTERPIECE!
Its "supposed" to take place in the 2nd year of batman's career, but coming out after Arkham City. so it's kind of a sequel/prequel. the real sequel has an unknown release date and is being done by rocksteady with Kevin Conroy portraying Batman.
Arkham city is in Gotham city. During the game you pass a bunch of landmarks like Gotham police department and Penguins museum, which are all in Gotham. They took all the criminals from Arkham Asylum and locked them inside, thus Arkham city.
Challenges are probably going to be insane this time
I know it could not have been DLC, I'm saying it doesn't look like they changed a whole lot. For example, AA compared to AC was a dramatic change, and I'm not talking about graphics.
I'm really digging the game just from watching 8 minutes of gameplay. Nice work :)))
I'm assuming that most the game will take place in one night, and that night is Christmas Eve. I wouldn't expect very many citizens roaming about anyways.
hope so. its not a bad idea or anything, especially if they take some influence from Year One in terms of storytelling.
to everyone that is complaining about batman having the grapple boost.
who said batman didn't have another grapple boost that was defected or maybe he needed an upgrade, just think, batman arkham origins looks great and I can't wait to get it!
My guess is the reason they didn't add civilians is because:
They used the Christmas Eve/snowstorm weather as an excuse for only villians to be roaming around or:
They decided to give us a Christmas eve based game as an attempt to avoid making it feel completely the same as Arkham City
I think this will play out very well. I see it being just as good as either of the first 2 games. People are trying to get whiny and picky with whether he would have a weapon now and and not later in the series. You need to ease up a bit and enjoy the gameplay as well because prequels are always tough to make when tech, gameplay and graphics have improved. The story looks really fun and the map will be twice as large, supposedly. It will rock.
Ya I know it'll be weird hearing Conroy talk to this Joker though I'm not complaining. And I like the new addition. It's a mix up from the Titan Formula formula.
It just worries me is all. I'd hate if they killed a franchise I love by over saturation. They did it to Assassin's Creed, they did it to Call of Duty, they did it to Tony Hawk back in the day, etc. The Arkham series is amazing and I just don't want them to start pumping out games annually before they are ready. That being said, I AM really excited about this game. The story and voice acting seem pretty good and the whole Christmas thing puts out a cool "Batman Returns" vibe.
I like how they kept it like Arkham City but introduced new little things!
I agree about the " its a good thing it looks like Arkham City" comments. Cant wait for this game.
They won't show them to you in the very first gameplay footage. Have some freaking patience.
On the positive side, it looks like they've improved a 'lil bit the game mechanics; the animations look smoother than Arkham City and i dig the new noir gotham style.
I thought they said there was an "All new and redesigned detective mode"? It looks the same! It still looks great though!
(Cont'd 3) as it was told in the game and also whenever possible, he calls in for these items, am I right? He simply didnt have need for an Augmented Video Playback System at those moments during Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. and for whatever reasons WB Games have to take over this instead of Rocksteady, it makes this a prequel at best for actually caring to use the same exact program system Rocksteady has used, & later, Rocksteady (gods willing) will use the same programming, Next-Gen enhanced
Its basically what rocksteady did but with a different name behind it it will be the same as asylum and city
When they showed the first AC gameplay they made sure the guy playing knew what he was doin and thus showed the depth of the gameplaymechanics nicely. In this trailer the guy sucks at combat and gliding.
Anyway, I love how that looks. The new suit looks nice, finally some dynamic events for once you finished the story etc. I loved AC and the only thing I wanted was more content and thats exactly what this game is... More AC content. Day 1 buy fore me!
Can't understand why people are complaining
about the design, because it looks just like arkham city
but you haven't play the game
the story is probably gonna be good
i can't wait to play it and i expect alot about this game
also roger craig smith sounds cool as batman
It's good enough for me. It could have exactly the same mechanics from AC, I wouldn't mind, they are great mechanics. All I care is about the story now, the gameplay is awesome, anything added is a plus.
That's my problem too. All his technology is so advanced compared to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. This is a supposed to be a PREQUEL and his gadgets already make his futuristic gadgets look obsolete!
dont know that until arkham 4 comes out joker plus clayface has always been a dangerous combo
Batman didnt have all of his tools in Arkham Asylum because he went there to deliver Joker to the autorities, not to fight goons and hang them from walls. Same goes to Arkham City, Batman has to improvise his gadgets as the stroy follows.
Awesome job guys, you can tell they respect what rocksteady did :)
Read the conversation. The guy before him said its like Assassins Creed; same game every year. The guy you replied to said "Arkham Games aren't that bed; when they come out every year, I'll be mad."
I had my judgements at first but now that Iv'e seen the game Its going to be awesome they haven't even revealed half the gadgets and characters, the visuals look great im liking the new variety in foes and again they haven't even began to show a fraction of what they've don with the game. plus you can tell from what they have said story is important and i'm really happy about that. Batman Arkham Origins you really showcased this game perfectly. it's going to be great besides the voices
@kamaricartwright u ain't lyin. the walk and run is stiff and robotic. he needs more of a stern, intimidating walk and more of a sprint than a fast jog. lol
This just looks like an even more polished version of Arkham City. And I'm okay with that. If something isn't broken there's no need to fix it.
So how do you get Slade DLC? I am pretty sure BestBuy isn't offering it and Walmart too.
as a HUGE Bat fan, i dont mind if the voice of Bats/Bruce is done correct
That tightrope takedown, wooooow I want to play this
1:53 Batman does the RKO now!!!! Awesome!! lol
that's because Rocksteady will be dealing with the story after The Joker's death, not WB Games
Every year? Didn't you just notice that AC was released on 2011 and this game is being released on 2013? Does that look yearly to you?
That remote claw is gonna make predator so easy!
This looks amazing cannot wait for it to be released. What I think really makes this game so good I that the story looks good and they haven't changed the gameplay much which I like
So far,so great.
Same gameplay of Arkham City, I hope it has online matches and more things to do in open world
I'm just glad they didn't change the fighting too much (hopefully). I thought it was perfect for a Batman game
this looks very promising all they need to do now is finish refining the graphics and details and it will be perfect
Yeah Kevin Conroy confirmed that he is in another Arkham game with Rocksteady, so I'm guessing it's a fullblooded AC sequal! ;)
Right, the set up is nice.
It's not all that weird, a much bigger portion of Arkham Asylum is inside the buildings as compared to Arkham City.
I can't wait for this game. The new gadget and crime scene thing look sweet! Hopefully, the Joker shows up towards the end and is red hood at the beginning. Awesome!!!!
Well rocksteady is making Arkham 3 currently. Arkham Origins is basically just a spin-off rather than the next part of the story.
I like this video, the only bad part is that most likely the game is coming around october.
This looks like just as much of a change from AA to AC. Seeing as this world is said to be 2x as big
Its interesting to see batman have all gadgets he had in arkham asylum and arkham city, since its a prequel. Do they even think what they are doing.
Except for two new animations during countering the counter countered by the enemy when you countered his counter attack.
Batman Returns!!!
You're kind of right, but the Arkham games haven't gotten that far yet. After this game, if they start pumping out Batman games every year or every other year and they look like Arkham City then I'm going to get pissed, but this is fine for now.
my whole thing is when u go to make something new make it different and better. not trying to knock batman cause it's a good game. guess budget should be in mind and Rocksteady gotta be making another one which I hope WOWs me
cant wait to tear shit up as adam west batman
And I'll take it! Arkham City is one of my favorite games of all time and I'm sure a lot of people would agree. I still consistently play it even though i've beaten it over and over. So the fact that we have more than twice as much map, new gadgets, new side missions, new villains/fighting styles, etc... I'm 100% in. Like some one said earlier "don't try to fix it if it ain't broke".
Looks amazing i just wish it was coming out much sooner.
First off stop judging the game when this has only been a snippet of the entire package. Second, this is for the complainers on graphics, What the hell are you talking about!? it looks way better than the Gameplay trailer and the detail is superb snow interacts with every movement and it looks better than the previous titles. Third, the complainers on similarity, this was an 8 minute demo, if there was a new silent take down there will be more animations on everything. It looks fantastic..
I mean, thats remind me Batman Returns movie, because its around Christmas, snowing, etc
only reason is the sequel is being built on a next gen console and thats why the prequel was made for current consoles...
As much as this game looks to be awesome, I'm worried it won't feel like a whole new game.
I'm glad I pre-ordered. This is epic. I love the city, the atmosphere, and the new combat. I CAN'T WAIT! :D
hes not back, this is a prequel to the other two arkham games lol. but i like how u came up with that whole story to why he could still be alive.
Wait, if this is two years after Bruce chose to become Batman, did he forget to bring these new gadgets with him to Arkham Island and City?..
sorry for the dumb question but does south island end up becoming arkham city?
im confused. which part of gotham becomes arkham?
Ya takes more than 1 year yet still the same gameplay(not saying it's a bad thing) yet people say the AC series is getting milked even when they add more additions each year than some of these games that have 2-3 year gaps.
They are apparently working on the next-gen sequel to Arkham City.
"final fantasy 15 and kingdom hears 3 announced as Ps4 exclusive" i read a news on gamespot saying they are coming to xboxone as well
Assassin's Creed 2: 2009
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood: 2010
Assassin's Creed: Revelation: 2011
Assassin's Creed 3: 2012
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag: 2013
How is that not released every year? Just because they have 2 years of development doesn't change they are released every year. They have multiple team working on different games at the same time.
Activision has Treyarch and Infinity Ward making 2 COD at the time to release them yearly.
i am so excited about this game but i dont understand how he has the grapple boost. It was a prototype in arkham city. i understand that they cant just take it away because it is sooo useful in moving around but still...well anyway this game is going to bad ass
I could not agree more. So pumped for this game
i would also love it if they did the Nolan's trilogy i love those movies i have pre-ordered the game now all i have to do is wait
