@drgarylinkov I was just trolling but now that I looked into you some more. I'm really sorry that you suffered a significant side effect from the covid vaccination that caused your Alopecia to accelerate. Your Bells Palsey reaction was probably scary and even with multiple Ivy league degrees, you still didn't save yourself from the vaccine

If he cannot overcome the impossible, with his multiple of Ivy League degrees, then he's just another average guy on youtube who was really good at remembering things from school.
likely youre hairloss has remained slow and stable - minoxidil on its own is enough to eclipse the loss rate caused via androgens. Not the case for most people, you are one of the lucky ones!
Lady here. I’ve used the combo of low dose Spironolactone qd and topical 5% minoxidil qd for approximately over a year and have seen good results. Absolutely saved my hair.
Me, too. Post-menopausal chick here. The hair loss was out of control for about 2 years before I finally caved and used topical minoxidil (liquid). Changed my life..lol..About 2 years later I added oral minoxidil and Finasteride, but still too scared to stop the topical since I had phenomenal results with it.
After breast cancer treatment and taking all the medications that come with it, I was bolding and hated it. I have been using topical 5% minoxidil twice a day and I have no complaints.
Respectfully hair is nothing compared to health. I would never take treatment for breast cancer because that is what caused stomach cancer to my mother after she beat breast cancer. It does more harm than good.
Woman here and i am using topical Rogaine for ten years and i love it. My hair is like it was when i was younger. I skip a day about once a week but i do use it regularly.
@@MarlonDeanMusicChannel thank you! I really like the videos from this doctor and i am so surprised about this one. If i did not use Rogaine, you would see my scalp through the thin hair, like my mom had. But my mom did not have this available at the time and i am so glad that it is here now.
@@AdrienneMintI started using it. Its been a month. I also do microneedling. I also like this man videos. But this video is rubbish. I only use once in 24h.
I thought using Rogaine will improve the issue and after a certain time, you wouldn't need to use it anymore . Like the Dr said, maybe you should search for the root of the problem. The money you spent in Rogaine × 10 years , is way more expensive than a professional treatment for a hair loss or even a hair transplant .
I agree with DR . I used it for more than 6 months and didn't see any results so I stopped . I think it's a scam because you need to take it for life to work while they get rich . No thx
A major benefit of Minox is that it doesn't mess around with your hormones (Ex. androgens). Hair loss occurs in a pattern. If you strengthen hairs on the front line of hair loss, it'll prevent (or at least slow) all hair loss. I started topical Minox when my hair loss started (early 30s) and it slowed the process down. I'm 44 with only some recession. Both my younger brothers are almost totally bald.
@@roool91 The safety profile of oral finasteride at low dose is well established. The side-effects sound scary but they seldom occur in most people, and are temporary even if they do occur. Fin is probably one of the best solutions to combat the root of the problem, and you'll never know if it works for you if you never try.
@@Anton-je9bc calling someone stupid without knowing who I am or what I believe … yeah you are one of the smart ones. Feel free to elaborate on what you know? I maintain that hormone treatment should only ever happen if there is an absolute medical necessity. Being sad about you hair falling out just isn’t that. Anyways, be kind ;)
I am 50+ and I have 3 years of Rogaine. The results are amazing and I am definitely determined to continue using it. Minoxidil has stopped the hair to fall, to stop thinning and to regain the thickness I had on my 20's. And the hair miniaturization due DHT actions on hair's androgen sensitive receptors, well that hair is now back in business. I understand, Finasteride inhibits the 5-alpha reductase enzyme stopping the testosterone - dihydrotestosterone conversion and it sounds like the golden standard for androgenic alopecia treatment. It makes sense, you are totally right. But, Gary, Minoxidil is ok too. It works. On top of this, few month ago I start some micro-needling sessions. The front side hair follicles, the most affected ones by the DHT action...wow!

I've got a question, there's plenty of men in the world whose hairline barely receeds at all even in old age. Why can we not screen the genes of those individuals and compare them to genes of balding men with the goal of gene therapy at a later stage?
The thing is, there are often hundreds of genes that affect a trait and each gene affects hundreds of traits... So it's easier said than done to narrow down the most important genes with the least side effects to target
This really surprises me. I must be a rare case. I have been on topical minoxidil for 5 years. I am a 75 year old woman and my hair has never been thicker. I use it just once a day. I have had problems with scalp irritation but take a few days off, use a dandruff shampoo, and it clears up and I can go back to using it again.
That’s because women, unlike us, are not prone to DHT, which is the root cause of hair loss. Minoxidil for women works wonders. Unfortunately, for men it’s not enough.
i used it on my face for over a year twice a day and have a full beard years later still. i couldn't grow a beard at all, not even a shadow before. (as an adult)
@@tsubimekdeinmansubimekdein3898 Dutasteride (works 93%) or Finasteride (works 70%) is blocking DHT hormon, so your hair won't fall out anymore. Minoxidil or Nanoxidil causes the blood vessels on your scalp to open and promotes hair growth. That are two separate things..
I've been using minoxidil (local generic) for 4 months now and my hair stopped falling out entirely. I used to lose 200-300 hairs daily and even up to 1000 with every washing for years. Now I lose about 17 hairs daily and about 100 during washing. I see new hair growing over my forehead. My harine is still a little bit receded, but if this current situation continies, I'll be happy with that because the treatment is pretty affordable. This is definitely something to consider though. Women in my family start using they start losing their eyebrows and eyelashes when they hit their late 30s. After watching a Rogaine commercial it hit me, hair follicles are hair follicles so why wouldn't it work on my eyebrows and eyelashes. I asked three different pharmacists if there was anything harmful about "painting" minioxidil on my eyebrows making sure it got through to my skin and then using a fine, clean eyeliner brush to paint it onto the base of my eyelashes. All three said there wasn't anything harmful unless I got it in my eye. I started using it a couple of times a day. Within a month I could see new hair growth starting. First, I stopped losing eyebrows and eyelashes. Then the holes in my eyebrows started filling in and new eyelashes started to just poke through. Within a bout two months, my best friend noticed. In three months, my eyebrows and eyelashes all filled back in and I looked normal. I do use a clean spoolie to brush my eyebrows and the base of my eyelashes to clear any dead skin and to stimulate the area. I did notice that before a spurt growth of eyelashes, the base of my eyelashes ached a bit. Brushing them a bit vigorously relieved the ache and within a day or two the area would show new eyelashes poking through. 35 + years later, I'm still using it twice a day. I did add latisse to get my eyelashes to grow longer. Great result!!
I had a transplant which worked really well for a year. After the 1 year mark my transplanted hair became very thin and looked terrible, so I started using Rogaine in the foam form and it worked well. My hair is much thicker and looks good.
The key here is to use a combination of approaches, such as minox + finasteride / dutasteride + ketokonazol. Plus regular nutrition and vitamins for hair could help to support hair growth.
@@lisa22150 it's important to be careful with microneedling, not to overdo it, since it may cause scarring and actually increase hair loss. Also there is limited data on the efficacy of such treatments as Stemoxidine, Fluridil, which can be actually stacked up. However, I've been using Fluridil (market name Eucapil) for over a year and haven't noticed significant results.
I take 1mg of finasteride and topical minoxidil. Adding the minoxidil really helped me with regrowth. I was on oral finasteride for a year, but didn't see much regrowth. When i added the minoxidil, like within 2 month i was getting compliments from my hair dresser. I couldn't afford both oral finasteride and oral minoxidil.

Finisteride gave me pretty bad sexual side effects and no one warned me about it. It really bothers me how the risks are so glossed over. Minoxidil may not be very effective but it never gave me any side effects. If I had a choice of ineffective or I can't come, I'll take ineffective.
Dude these finasteride side effects eventualy go away, you should've insisted a little more. I started at the dose of 1mg and I had the same sides you had for around 6 months, now I use finasteride 2,5mg and it's all fine. The same happened with Oral MInoxidil, I had all the sides for 3 months and it's all gone.
No one warned you about? Bro, it's in all the literature, especially in the pamphlet you get when you get prescribed by a doctor. Either he tells you of the sides directly, or it's given to you. Now you're trying to blame others besides yourself.
I was biggest defender of finasteride and found eventually it happened to me too. I dont have prob w erec but its more like the eja aspect and not good quality. Quality of that aspect diminished by like 65%. Im willing to bet if i quit it would go away. But… i want to keep my hair so sadly its a trade off i am willing to keep. No way would i use the harsher dutasteride. Id love to switch to saw palmetto though.
@@SteveJonesOwnsDSP the medication, like all medication, had an insert written in print so small an ant couldn't read it with all kinds of technical mumbo jumbo and usually all that stuff is just to cover their ass, not actual warnings. Usually when drugs have major side effects, any time a doctor mentions the drug, they mention the side effects. For instance, I use tretinoin and every time a doctor mentions it they mention it causes sun sensitivity. I see mentions of finasteride all the time and doctors, just like the doctor in this video, make no mention of major possible side effects. Before I was prescribed it, not a single person warned me. That is a fact. If you think I should have figured it out from the wadded up sheet of paper glued to the bottle, I guess you can think that.
@@alonsomelojunior3887 Same here. 6 months seems to be the sweet spot. My body had a weird time adjusting, but now all the sides are gone. Not that they were really serious in the first place though.
I got plapitations from using Minoxidil for hair thinning after several months of use and didnt notice much of a difference anyway. I quit taking it and only stayed with finasterides. Then i went and did prp treatments and a hairline transplant and just after 5 months later now my hair looks completely different. It looks like it used to look when i was 15 yrs old and i couldnt be happier having no side effects anymore with a full set of perfect hair.
@@Mercurial_Phantom Yes and a little bit inwards where the hair was starting to get thinner and also moved the hairline a bit forward on the forehead. Since my donor area is massive with thick hair the results got even better than expected. And the prp treatments kinda restores the hair overall to a younger version of itself. Only way to keep it that way is also to keep taking finasterides and the hair will do its work. I think minoxidil does more harm than good to the body overall whether u take it topical or pill. and as long as u done prp treatments u can instantly stop taking it. The prp treatment is so potent and strong that quitting minox straight away wont give any side effects like hair shedding. Just make sure to eat a healthy diet a few weeks before the prp treatments and for a few weeks after the prp treatment to give the scalp as much nutritions as it can take. Because the blood they use for the prp treatment will contain more nutritions.
I recently switched from topical Minoxidil to oral. After a month I haven't noticed any changes on my scalp but I've been growing excess hair everywhere else which is awful. I'll be switching back to topical!
Dear you need to be consistent in typical manoxdil. Oral treatment has side effects that you can grow hairs on other parts of your body. Where you don’t need it.
@@Chris-nr3md dear I am using topicals manoxdil. I am feeling shedding at the moment. I am feeling positive. No heart rate difference. It’s normal. But if you taking tablets oral manoxdil you may feel side effects.
Minoxidil can be used once per day just fine, the twice per day thing is an outdated recommendation. Oral minoxidil is a medication that doesn't even work too well for what it was created and there are serious concerns about damaging the heart by taking it orally. Topical minoxidil is very unlikely to give you any systemic effects, you just can't get enough to get a meaningful amount in your blood. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, you might as well take finasteride, since it at least goes to the root cause of male pattern baldness, instead of just stimulating it independently (but yeah, this only applies to males or females with that kind of hair loss).
I heard the same thing about oral minoxidil being discontinued for high blood pressure due to its damaging effects on the heart, so why would anyone take it for hair loss?
@@Sky10811 the latter is correct. The former depends on the person, and often can be mitigated through continued use or reduced frequency or dose. Wouldn't risk heart damage for that anyway.

Anecdotal, yes but Regaine ( the name its marketed under here in ireland) has done wonders for me. It has quite literally stopped my excessive hair loss.
Oral is more likely to go systemic, which is why the sides are stronger. Topical can still get serious heart complications (I got them), and especially if you regularly use a dermaroller. Although efficacy is lower with topical, you also get less sides, but it's messy and a pain to apply. So there are trade-offs.
@alonsomelojunior3887 the possible side effects of fin is my boners stop the possible side effects of oral min is fluid build up in and around the heart. I understand anything that works has side effects but some are much greater than others
I only use topical once a day, sometimes skip it on weekends, and had amazing results and it had been only 4 months use. I did shed and now have lots of new hairs
Surely oral minoxidil and finasteride carry a much heavier health burden where topical minoxidil and saw palmetto are obviously less effective but a less damaging compromise
Sides for Fin are rare and tend to be mild. You can adjust the dose to 0,5mg daily to reduce sides if they occur. Nocebo is a possibility too. Ditch saw palmetto. It doesn't do anything

On Finasteride 1.25mg daily, Minoxidil 5% once a day and derma stamp 0.7mm once a week. Did wonders for me! my temples have grown back 100% in one year.
I am glad you mentioned oral minoxidil. Few doctors do and there is not as much information about it as finasteride. When I decided to do something about my hair loss I researched the options. I was concerned about post-finasteride syndrome. I found a study that showed that oral minoxidil was safer and more effective than finasteride so I decided to give it a try. I have only been taking it a few months but have already seen significant improvement.
Bro, there's a reason why oral minox isn't common practice (off label). Do yourself a favor and look into heart issues and oral minox. Oral finasteride has infinitely more scientific research than oral minox and like Gary said, minox doesn't get to the root cause of hair loss. Check Kevin Mann's "Hair Cafe" channel for additional perspectives.
@@sumsar0125 Any medication can have side effects, actual heart issues are very rare. In fact, it is used for high blood pressure too. It's also much more likely to be successful. It's meant to be taken with finasteride as usual.
I have tried a lot of approaches. For many years, I took oral finasteride and topical minoxidil and had a great outcome with thick hair. It was very natural looking. A couple of years ago, I decided that I had been on oral finasteride for too many years, so I stopped taking finasteride and stayed with topical minoxidil, and gradually started losing hair but not at a heavy pace. Then I stopped both and took oral minoxidil. I started having subtle chest pains so I stopped it and the chest pains went away. I went back to topical minoxidil (but a 6% dosage) with topical finasteride and it has been okay but not as effective as the oral finasteride. So now I am going full circle back to oral finasteride and topical minoxidil. I am in the early stage so I am getting heavier hair loss (I heard this is typical). I hope I get back to my earlier great outcome. But I will see if my body chemistry has gone out of whack.

Oral minoxidil is off license medication for hair loss while oral finasteride has many side effects including rare risk of testicular cancer . A combination of topical minoxidil and topical finasteride used daily is the better of both worlds.
I agree. I'm female and used topical of both and it worked great for me. I stopped for several months and I've just started to noticed thinning again so ill be starting it back again. I also do not have a greasy feeling in my hair after it dries and I only wash my hair every 5 days or so. I was also taking oral minoxidil with the topical. It worked great for me. I had so much new growth that I stopped taking it. So, maybe it's men that don't see good results?
I use dutasteride and oral minoxidil, but I don't notice any difference, except when I use topical minoxidil. The only difference I noticed with oral minoxidil was that the hair on my arms seems to be longer. The only negative side of topical minoxidil is that it makes my hair drier because I use the alcohol-based version, but on the other hand, by reducing oiliness, it also helps to reduce the pain I feel on my scalp when it is more oily. I even think that maybe my hair loss is not male pattern baldness because dutasteride didn't improve it at all.
I love your content but this video left a lot to be desired. Everything. you said is correct but I think the message could have been more complete. Minoxidil, whether oral or topical is a very good adjunct therapy to 5a-R inhibitors. Dual therapy alongside a lifestyle with a focus on your overall health is the ultimate approach to curbing hair loss. There are many fantastic combined fin/min topical formulas that work brilliantly and don't use PG as a carrier while also minimizing and in some cases completely eliminating side effects. I am on my 10th year of fin/min, testing oral and topical, and at nearly 40 my hair looks like it did in my 20s. FWIW, I tried oral min for 3 months and near the end of the 3rd month I had to quit due to chest pain which resolved a week after stopping. I have tried it several times over the years and the same thing ends up happening so I stick with topical.
I tried topical a long time ago and I just got rashes in the back of my head. I have been to many Drs including hair club and all I got were take biotin or spend hundreds of dollars on hair club products that only worked for a few months. I’m so glad I found a Dr that listen to me and my concerns. Thanks Dr G for the oral minoxidil.
Many say that after their hair growth has met it's full potential, they use minoxidil only once per day, as opposed to twice, due to the components having 20+ hours effect. This allows them to double the usage from a monthly supply of minoxidil. It's far less expensive and you are worth it.
Dutasteride and topical minoxidil work awesome. I think you should have used a different title, "I hate people who don't block DHT and want more hair. Oral Minoxidil isn't a good look for gals. The itching and greasiness are awful. I use once daily. Thanks!
Do you recommend the oral form of minoxidil for women as well, given the concerns about hair growth in areas that aren't typical for women? Does a lower dose help mitigate such concerns?
Doesn't oral minoxidil have a strong impact on the blood pressure? Also what other effects would reduced DHT levels cause, if one takes DHT blockers? I might be overthinking it, but I never liked the idea of taking blood pressure and hormone affecting pills.
Well to be completely honest with you taking any drug is not healthy for you. There is a reason big pharma kill millions of people each year. Sometimes legally and sometimes they pay some fines here and there but the industry is worth trillions. But people don't seem to care so there is that. It also depends how much stress you put your body in if you consume garbage food and live a stressfull live. And you use drugs you won't live a long live. To each their own.
"strong" impact... Yes, at high doses! The typical dose prescribed to combat hypertension is 40mg! For hair loss, it is 2.5mg, an insignificant amount! A lot of the cases where side effects are present take a bit BUT DO in the end wear off. Of course you should be attentive to your body and make whatever decision is best for you, but the fear mongering around oral minoxidil is insanely exaggerated. It works just fine for many people

His doctor wouldn't believe me!! Thank God I was a cardiology nurse. I fought my point! Once he stopped the med, his blood pressure returned to normal!! I hate it too!! Would never recommend!!
At time stamp 1:55, you mentioned “it can help convert vilis hairs to thicker hairs” but it’s unclear if you are referring to topical or oral. Which are you referring to? Thanks in advance!
Its best to try topical minoxidil by itself without finasteride or dutasteride because you get a chance to see if the minoxidil is working on its own. If you are taking both minoxidil and finasteride/dutasteride, you will not know if minoxidil works because it could be the finasteride/dutasteride working.
Well in my case (very early stage of androgenic alopecia at age 18, female pattern) i do see improvement in my hair with using daily minoxidil (5%, once per day). But what does surprise me that treating low (acceptable, but low) ferritin level improved my hair condition, especially baby hair longevity. Now I'm almost 23 and i must admit that I'm little stressed about tying new ways of treatment, but we will probably try to go without contraception and see what would happened - my level of androgens had always been not high

Topical Minoxidil gave me scary heart issues; especially when I took a deep breath in the morning, and I only applied it once a day. I've read that the heart issues were even worse with the Oral form -- I heard stories of some folks waking up in the middle of the night with a rapidly beating heart. Different biographies state he had a possible facelift or a mini facelift or a neck lift as well as the blepharoplasty. Personally, I think he just had the upper bleph. Other biographies mention his skin peels and teeth capping in the 50s as well as controversial liquid diets he tried in the 70s. Would be super interesting for Dr. LINKOV to cast an expert eye over the king! After all, Elvis is quite possibly the most classically handsome man who ever lived!
Pharma has got to him .. fin is so dangerous for males if u want to emasculate yourself go for fin … that stuff should only be used for people with no sex life or 70 plus year old
Thanks, this bald eagle is trying to promote his own product, so people don't spend on Minoxidil? with your awesome experience I will continue using Minoxidil 5 %
Spironolactone is difficult to get on as a woman as you have to be on birth control for them to prescribe it. Birth control has been linked to hair loss. And there's a good reason women don't take oral minoxidil as it can cause hair growth in unwanted areas
This is what I've noticed with my 3 month use so far. It stopped my hair loss after a shedding period that stressed me the F out. Hopefully I will see some.growth soon
As stated, you will most likely see a temporary benefit to topical minoxidil used as a monotherapy, but if you truly have AGA you absolutely will continue to see hair loss in the long term.
Thanks, this bald eagle is trying to promote his own product, so people don't spend on Minoxidil? with your awesome experience I will continue using Minoxidil 5 %
I got no growth from topical 5% foam minoxidil. However, oral Minoxidil has been exceptionally effective. Additionally, I take oral Finasteride 1.0 mg daily to block DHT.
I had to stop using minoxidil due to it causing bad vertigo. Now seeing this video, I can see it's for the best and not ideal for androgenic alopecia. Thanks for the information!!😊
Dr. Gary respectfully I agree to disagree! The internet is full of patients reporting of permanent E.D and depression from Finasteride, while you don't hear those reports from Minoxidil. And rightfully the logical conclusion would be that turning off the meds makes it better, but those patients never recover. Hence, I prefer minoxidil and dermarolling. I rather go bald than to lose my erectile function. Would love to hear your take on my comment since you always advice finasteride. I had problems with e.d in the past due to blood pressure and never want to risk losing it again.
Those people are lying, stupid or would‘ve naturally gotten ED as its an age-related condition. The FDA and research denies the existence of permanent effects with either finasteride or dutasteride. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, kids.
I’ve been using topical minoxidil for about 5-6 months and I feel like it hasn’t helped at all. Only dries my hair out and of course some irritation. I’ve been thinking of stopping it and I feel this video has helped my decision
It does not work. I have been using Nizoral for the past 7 years to treat my sebderm, which occurred alongside androgenic alopecia. My hairline is still receding and I am still losing density all over. I would have regrown or maintained all that hair if it did help.
Is it bad to take oral minoxidil? Warnings. Minoxidil may cause serious heart problems or worsen chest pain (angina). This medication is only used when other treatments have not worked well or cannot be taken. Your doctor should direct you to also take other medications to reduce the side effects of minoxidil.
I don’t think he’s downplaying the effects of minox rather how it’s more “stimulating” hair follicles than preventing the main culprit that’s weakening those hair follicles, DHT. Finasteride and other agents can block/hinder DHT effects
I started experiencing hairloss about 6/7 years ago (Im 28), I`m using Minoxidil for at least 4 years now I believe, I still have hair, but every year I have less and less, I do not feel like Minoxodil is doing much honestly. I´m a bit scare of Finasteride but I think Its time to consider that option and a possible FUE in a future
I was also a bit scared about the possible negative effects of Finasteride but i took the chance and have been on it for 10 years. It completely stopped all hair loss, whereas every other male in my family has lost or is losing their hair. It's important to remember that in the studies the rate of negative side effects was very low. It's easy to read horror stories and get freaked out, the possibility is there but its not very likely. As for myself and this is TMI, the only side effect i had was decreased semen volume for a few months which eventually returned to normal.
@@BlindWatchMakers Thank you for your feedback! I understand around 1-2% of males has this side effects, but Im still worry for the long run, because studies stop tracking the evolution after some time. but well, I`ll give it a shot. Even with an FUE the doctor recommends Finasteride as well, so there is no way around
@@danbreton9269 You are smart to feel scared it's your body telling you not to mess with drugs. Do some research never listen to other people. I will only state facts for one, Finasteride was approved to shrink enlarged prostates and now it's used to decrease levels of a natural body hormone (DHT). Wich is essential for many organs and skin functions. Not to mention your sperm quality and libido will get affected. This is a fact if you will feel it or not does not matter. Because your body DOES feel the effects on a daily basis. People feel totally fine until they die the next day and it's because of drugs just like this.
Ive been on Minoxidil for a few years now and i must say that ive definitely seen it help with retaining my hair. However i do also use a Biotin supplement. The doc is correct in prescribing Finasteride. It really is a game changer. I sadly had to stop using it as it gave me very bad brain fog.
Well that's the only thing that can be used here in EU without prescription. Finasteride is almost imposible to get since docs here doesn't acknowlage hairloss as an issue.
I think the best is a combo of both minoxidil and a anti androgen. I’m personally not keen on the tablets at the moment so I’m using topical minox/ finasteride with great results
I have started topical minox 2 months ago, together with once per week 1mm dermastamp. Shedding started after 2-3 weeks or so and lasted 3 or 4 weeks. Now almost no hairs are falling out during the shower. I apply once / day. Now let’s see where this is going to. Still want to wait with hormone blockers, it doesn’t feel good when im all about living healthy and optimizing testosterone
I’ve been on Minoxidil for years. In that time it’s difficult to say whether i’d look the same if I hadn’t taken it. The liquid version irritated my scalp. Foam only works for me. It was definitely not reversing my hairloss and i’m still very gradually losing it. About 5 years ago I began trying Finasteride. After a couple of years I stopped. Results were disappointing and to be honest, I could see and feel no difference. It still wasn’t reversing any hairloss, my libido was affected, quality of sperm and possibility of birth defects if you’re trying to have children are real. And after doing research I realised that Finasteride only actually works for about half of men anyway. Just back on topical Minoxidil now. Still gradually losing my hair. Probably not much point in continuing tbh. Pill form is not offered in the UK but given the research anyway, it’s unlikely to make much difference.
I understand that Finasterid is more effective compared to Minoxidil, but the risk of systemic side effects. Minoxidil might cause itching, but finasterid can cause sexual and emotional changes. The fertility and birth defect risks worry me too. Finasterid isn't wise to continue using with a pregnant partner whereas minoxidil can still get by.
This is the best hair loss video I have seen. Never mind the medicines you talk about, I will adopt your attitude. You certainly proved to me that what goes on top of the head, is much less important than what goes between the ears. And if a product is bad for cats and dogs...isn't that the canary in the mine...probably not good for people either. In my family the men die with full head of hairs and some of the women lose it, which happened to both my father's sisters, so I know I have the dna for hair loss and also, I have been prepared for this all my life. One aunt cried herself to bed for the rest of her life, got two wigs made of real hair and complained all the time how unreal they looked. The other aunt got herself a drawer full of plastic wigs in all colours and shapes and had fun looking really gorgeous all the time, and if anybody wanted to see her wig, she took it off and showed them. Since I have health like a rocking horse, except for thinning hair, why would I take medicines with so many side effects? I will get a hairstyle that is ok for me now, buy my first wig and get used to it (15$ on Temu...lol..I can have loads of them) and praise the mild creator for having loads of hair in the 80s when that was very fashionable, and that I have thin hair now when big hair is out. So thank you dear Gary, you have save me from a lot of pain and sorrow, money, and probably the lives of the cats and dogs I know.
So you don't recommend topical Minoxidil that has no side effect, but you still recommend Finasteride that can for sure cause erectile dysfunctions and infertility ?!!
@@Silverpump Maybe if you're a soy boy with low T. I had to try it 3 times. 3rd time I started with small doses and worked my way up. Now that I'm used to it I feel better than before and I'm seeing actual hair recovery. I fell for the anti fin propaganda for years and all it did was cause me to need a hair transplant for successful regrowth since I waited. Anyone who is losing their hair just get on finasteride ASAP and don't read the negative propaganda. Odds are you'll end up on it anyway and will need surgery to regain a semblance of your original hair line.
Topical minoxidil only makes sense if you're a diffuse thinner and it makes huge difference giving fullness in the crown and/or center because you turn out to be a good responder and you cannot take the oral minoxidil because of an existing cardiovascular condition. You also have to be on either finasteride or dutasteride if you plan on taking minoxidil whether it's topical or oral. You have to either stop DHT from being converted from testosterone or stop it at a receptor level from binding which is more difficult and requires drugs that aren't applicable to men. But the actual problem with topical minoxidil or foam is that you will eventually get tired of applying it. Sometimes it's a few years down the line, sometimes a decade but make no mistake, everyone gets tired of applying any topical whether it's minoxidil or topical finasteride. For all the young men or teenagers out there reading this; Don't wait to lose ANY amount of hair, start taking a 5-ar inhibitor like finasteride or dutasteride while you still have a full head of hair. When your hair loss visible, you probably lost at least 1/3 of your hair density and that is too late. Think of it like losing teeth. You brush it, floss it, use a water flosser and keep it clean at all times, especially before sleep. If you don't do that, you're gonna need implants like you're gonna need hair transplants. Prevention is the cure.
Thanks, this bald eagle is trying to promote his own product, so people don't spend on Minoxidil? with your awesome experience I will continue using Minoxidil 5 %
Yeah, I stopped using topical minoxidil, as prescribed by my dermatologist, because my hair would get greasy. I wasn't diagnosed with alopecia; I just have really thin hair. It falls a lot, but then it regrows. Every time I go to the hairdresser, they ask if I've recently lost a lot of hair, because there's a lot of it that's regrowing. From your explanation, it does seem that minoxidil might be the best for me, but maybe not the topical one.
I love seeing you be more confident and come out of your shell. That being said though… I think this clickbait video is a miss. I enjoy your plastic surgery videos, but you are not a dermatologist. It feels misleading for you to make these claims… unless im misinformed and you are both! Anyway I’m a woman with androgenic hair loss from high DHEA levels. My derm explained all the options for me (topical and oral rogaine, as well as spiro and the other DHT drug you mentioned). You didn’t mention that rogaine causes the hair follicles to all restart in the same phase of the growth cycle, which is what makes the results take longer. It’s also strange to hear you push spiro as it has a lot of effects on cardiac function you didn’t mention. For example I chose spiro as my treatment, at a very low dose just to start, and had to stop because it lowered my blood pressure too much. I have mitral valve prolapse. Anyway I would defend you by saying that perhaps that’s all out of the scope of this video. I don’t like how it feels to doubt you, but this video made me feel less confident in your expertise 😞
Im using 5mg of oral minoxidil since 8 months and got the shed of my life, what is good so i pushed through and got some good results i would say. Health is fine since im monitored by my doctor. I ordered the medication online 🙃
Woman here. Six months after I started oral minoxidil my blood test and ultrasound exam showed a fatty liver, with no other changes to medication, diet or lifestyle. I never heard evidence for it, though. Still scared. I stopped immediately and my hair quickly worsened. I'm now on topical 5% minox 2x/day and seeing little improvement, but still some. Then the gynecologist told me spironolactone can also affect fetus, if I ever get pregnant. Not taking any more systemic drugs.
If this guy knew what he was talking about, he would have more than 10 hairs on his face
Gotta love the ignorance
@drgarylinkov I was just trolling but now that I looked into you some more. I'm really sorry that you suffered a significant side effect from the covid vaccination that caused your Alopecia to accelerate. Your Bells Palsey reaction was probably scary and even with multiple Ivy league degrees, you still didn't save yourself from the vaccine

@hobblingoblin2813 he continues to delete my replies of apology. I didn't know he suffered a severe side effect from the c19 sh0t. To be great, you over come the impossible.
Thank you!!! It’s a really risky game to start messing with hormones

My dad is one of them. He’s 77 and has a full head of hair. My brother went bald at 28. I’m a lady (no hair loss). We’re now 41 and 42😊.
Easier said than done.
You have basically described an entire generation of research in one sentence.
The thing is, there are often hundreds of genes that affect a trait and each gene affects hundreds of traits... So it's easier said than done to narrow down the most important genes with the least side effects to target
We have done that.
I would like the genes of people that don't have Ragweed allergies and IBS as well
Thank you for pointing out the danger to pets!!

I'm 60, works great for me too, very itchy. Woman have much lower Testosterone which makes a huge difference.
were you experiencing androgenic hairloss?
That’s because women, unlike us, are not prone to DHT, which is the root cause of hair loss. Minoxidil for women works wonders. Unfortunately, for men it’s not enough.
i used it on my face for over a year twice a day and have a full beard years later still. i couldn't grow a beard at all, not even a shadow before. (as an adult)

Great result!!
careful with latiss as it has side effects
what i noticed: even if i apply minoxidil on my scalp, it improves eye lashes too

The key here is to use a combination of approaches, such as minox + finasteride / dutasteride + ketokonazol. Plus regular nutrition and vitamins for hair could help to support hair growth.
Yup, this is my approach along with LLLT and microneedling.I WILL WIN.

Also there is limited data on the efficacy of such treatments as Stemoxidine, Fluridil, which can be actually stacked up. However, I've been using Fluridil (market name Eucapil) for over a year and haven't noticed significant results.
I thought ketokonazol was for skin irritation and dermatitis?

Only way to keep it that way is also to keep taking finasterides and the hair will do its work. I think minoxidil does more harm than good to the body overall whether u take it topical or pill. and as long as u done prp treatments u can instantly stop taking it. The prp treatment is so potent and strong that quitting minox straight away wont give any side effects like hair shedding. Just make sure to eat a healthy diet a few weeks before the prp treatments and for a few weeks after the prp treatment to give the scalp as much nutritions as it can take. I'd love to have more body hair. Maybe I'll switch to oral. That's a good side effect to me.
Dear you need to be consistent in typical manoxdil. Oral treatment has side effects that you can grow hairs on other parts of your body. Where you don’t need it.
Have you noticed any difference with your heart rate ?

@@Chris-nr3md Not at all luckily.
I heard the same thing about oral minoxidil being discontinued for high blood pressure due to its damaging effects on the heart, so why would anyone take it for hair loss?
finasteride has too much side effects and not allowed to women before menopause
@@Sky10811 the latter is correct. The former depends on the person, and often can be mitigated through continued use or reduced frequency or dose. Wouldn't risk heart damage for that anyway.

What about topical finasteride?
Anecdotal, yes but Regaine ( the name its marketed under here in ireland) has done wonders for me. It has quite literally stopped my excessive hair loss.
It just depends on the person; it really works for some of us and barely works for others.
What about reports of heart complications related to oral min, vs no complications with topical?
There are side effects just like any other oral medication you take, the body eventually gets used to it.
Oral is more likely to go systemic, which is why the sides are stronger. Topical can still get serious heart complications (I got them), and especially if you regularly use a dermaroller. Although efficacy is lower with topical, you also get less sides, but it's messy and a pain to apply. So there are trade-offs.
@@SteveJonesOwnsDSP oral is systemic by definition no?

Surely oral minoxidil and finasteride carry a much heavier health burden where topical minoxidil and saw palmetto are obviously less effective but a less damaging compromise

Sides for Fin are rare and tend to be mild. You can adjust the dose to 0,5mg daily to reduce sides if they occur. Nocebo is a possibility too.

You get it all wrong. Finasteride is mostly safe while oral minoxidil can literally kill you.

Did you experience excess hair growth anywhere else in your body apart from your head after taking oral minoxidil?
@@JonTodt775 Not so far.

Oral minoxidil is known to cause unwanted hair growth in other areas.
Glad someone finally said it
I use dutasteride and oral minoxidil, but I don't notice any difference, except when I use topical minoxidil.
And what about fin? Do you use the oral or the topical?
It says twice daily application but once is more then enough because of the half-life of the drug itself which lasts around 24 hours.
It's not.

Try using topical manoxdil first. It’s less side effects. Rogain form or regain form is the best.
Side effects in fin are rare. Finasteride rocks.
@@BullMooseFoxit's not rare...you can get side effects too after you stop using it
@@Silverpump It is rare. Less than 2% and most side effects go away with continued use.
@@BullMooseFox 2% is what "studies" say and what it says on the package...The reality is different
Prevention is the cure.
bad advice. should be reported to the board. why are you shilling oral minoxidil which isnt commonly used and not safe.
Thank you!
Doesn't he sell it?
It's not FDA approved either, I'm surprised on his take
Dont listen this bald guy. He is a snake
Unfortunately minoxidil can decrease collagen, and taking it orally can make your whole skin age as opposed to your scalp only.
It's still called "Regaine" in Germany.
I like Gary
