Fantastic. I did not know how to engrave a protractor scale based on lines. You are the only source that told be about the trace command. You saved me a lot of work.
Any tips on how you would engrave on a surface that's not flat? In inventor you would typically emboss & wrap to face. But then the "text" is not selectable in the CAM engraving module.
Hello I have the student licence for Inventor 2017 (version: Build 142) I don’t have the "convert to geometry" option. Not sure if this is because of the version but I installed Inventor in Oct 2019. When I first tried the ‘Trace’ on the letters, it went around (but twice as its not single line) and it worked. Now when I select the next letter with ‘Trace’ it doesn’t create toolpath where the letter is, it moves/rotates the letter, See video ruclips.net/video/dBjN2vxP0e8/видео.html I don’t understand why it worked the first time but now it doesn’t, I tried redrawing from scratch on a new part, but the problem remains. I was using ‘Geometry Text’ to place around circle, if I use normal ‘Text’ and ‘Rotate’ then ‘Trace’ works, I have tried the ‘Emboss’ to engrave into the material, it works but again it’s not single line, but it is an option. I left stock on top to be able to see when simulating toolpath. Any chance you could explain how to fix it and why it moves/rotates the letter.I would be very grateful. Thank you for your time.
@@dfvhswrjjrefvyht4110 Unfortunately we cannot say exactly why this is happening. I have seen other occurrences of the Trace command and Geometry text not working well together. With the introduction of the Engrave command in newer releases of Inventor CAM, the Trace is not really used for this functionality anymore. So I would suggest using your workaround if upgrading to a newer release is not an option.

Use project under 3D milling. Create the text you want above the curved surface
I see you're using 2017 version, do you know how to engrave in 2015?
Thank you. Clear and to the point.
Glad we could help! Let us know if you need anything else.
Hello
I have the student licence for Inventor 2017 (version: Build
142)
I don’t have the "convert to geometry" option. Not
sure if this is because of the version but I installed Inventor in Oct 2019.
When I first tried the ‘Trace’ on the letters, it went
around (but twice as its not single line) and it worked.
Now when I select the next letter with ‘Trace’ it doesn’t create
toolpath where the letter is, it moves/rotates the letter, See video ruclips.net/video/dBjN2vxP0e8/видео.html
I don’t understand why it worked the first time but now it doesn’t,
I tried redrawing from scratch on a new part, but the problem remains.
I was using ‘Geometry Text’ to place around circle, if I use
normal ‘Text’ and ‘Rotate’ then ‘Trace’ works, I have tried the ‘Emboss’ to
engrave into the material, it works but again it’s not single line, but it is
an option.
I left stock on top to be able to see when simulating
toolpath.
Any chance you could explain how to fix it and why it moves/rotates
the letter.I would be very grateful.
Thank you for your time.
