I've used the stake/chicken wire method the last 2 winters for a large potted Musa Basjoo. Winter of 22/23 lost a wee bit of height on it due to the 2 week freeze! Last winter never lost any pseudostem on the banana. I'm 5ft 10" & can literally stand underneath the plant!Used buckets full of dried leaves to pack the stems. U will need to put a waterproof tarp over the top of the cage to keep everything dry otherwise it won't work! On the West coast of Scotland can get fairly cold here at times! 🥶😂
Thanks Stephen for the tip, I did wonder about using leaves to pack around the banana. I didn’t realise they needed a rain cover though! I’m tempted to try this again now!
Hi, I get -5’c pretty much every winter. A very cold winter would be -10’c. Most winters I don’t have more than a couple of ice days where it stays below freezing all day although it could be up to a week in cold winters. So, I’m sure it’s milder here than your location but I’m also confident it’s a lot wetter here so our biggest challenge is the amount of cold and wet weather. I hope this winter is a good one for you!
Those Halloween props in the window are a little early - LOL. That reminds me to dig out mine soon.
🤣🤣🤣 I did think that whilst I was filming it but they’re actually panda balloons for my son’s birthday!! I had to do a double take to check 🤣🤣

@palmsexoticsuk2194 no worries glad I could help 👍
Ive got a couple of spare heat cables from my snake racks, not sure theyre waterproof though.
Ive beem looking at a cheap paraffin heater.
Thanks for your comment! My cables get wet but still work fine so might be worth a try?
What is your lowest temperature there? I’m in New York. Much colder than you
