    I’ve been out of the cycling hobby for 20+ years due to my knees. The Olmo name didn’t initially ring a bell for me, but soon as I saw the frame I remembered them. There was such a high level of skill put into the Italian steel frames from the 80’s and 90’s.

    • @OnRoadVintageBikes
      @OnRoadVintageBikes  2 года назад

      Thank you for watching, I also don't know the Olmo brand very well, but the workmanship of this frame is impeccable and beautiful... and goes well btw.

    • @trappenweisseguy27
      @trappenweisseguy27 2 года назад

      I ended up with a locally made frame (brand is Miele) in Ishiwata steel with Suntour Superbe Pro gruppo and Mavic 330 rims. 98% of the performance of the Italian stuff for 40-50% of the price 🙂.

      Aside from a wonky headset (bike wants to keep going straight) I never had an ounce of trouble from the gruppo. I guess I put so many miles on it that the headset bearings indented into the race 🤷‍♂️.

    OMG. I have the same exact frame and I ride it every day for over 4 years already. I also have 2 Olmo Sanremos in the shed and while Sintex is higher-tier model, I prefer the ride of lower-tier Sanremo. On the road Sanremo is springier, Sintex is stiffer, despite having 0.1 mm thinner tubing. In my limited experience, Olmo bikes ride better than Colnago. Well, "better" is relative and highly subjective, of course, YMMV. I've restored my purple Sanremo back in the day, but wasn't riding it often since then. It's going to be re-built soon. As of now, Sintex is a neglected beater covered in rust and patina. Once I'll finish building up Sanremo with modern components and finish restoring 1979 Colnago Super, that beater will get her love she deserves. A love that is long overdue. Superb video, thanks for sharing!

      @jamesdelgado2009 2 года назад

      What group are you planning to build your Sanremo up with? I just finished a Zullo build and I went with an 11-speed Athena group in classic silver finish. Working on a Tesch S-22 currently with a mix on 11-speed SR and Record.

    • @tweed0929
      @tweed0929 2 года назад

      @@jamesdelgado2009, Shimagnolo, probably. I intend to use Campagnolo C-Record mirror polished cranks with 11-speed Shimano drivetrain. If that wouldn't work well, I'll use 11-speed crankset from Campagnolo (Athena or Chorus) then. Just can't stand androgynous biomutant look of 4-arm Shimano cranksets.

    Beautiful gruppo, I had the first gen Athena, which looked very similar to this gen of Chorus, I put most of the miles in my youth on that gruppo, this brings back great memories. I love the jewel-like sound of the freewheels back then, not the chainsaw noise like in this day and age.....Keep up the great work!

    Great idea to store bearing balls inside a tic-tac container. One thing looks a liitle weird to me: The frame has internal rear brake cable routing but the brake levers are for outside-cable routing.

    • @OnRoadVintageBikes
      @OnRoadVintageBikes  2 года назад

      These levers can be put both ways, at the bottom I already have it on Gios, so I wanted to try it classically. And it's probably better levers are small enough and you can lean your hand on the bowden... Thank you for watching.
