    The only video on the internet that actually helps me to understand how to shim my gears! Thank you so much!

    Thanks. One of the shimming videos that makes sense without any guesswork on the height of each gears. Can't wait to test my hand

    GREAT JOB ON SHIMMING.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I was use wrong way to shim my gears.

    Thanks for your input. The hole drilled does not affect the gearbox structural strength in any way not does it effect the gears, this technique is used by quite a few people to ensure that the pinion to bevel gear alignment is correct. I would link but comments do not allow it.
    Your right the cut-off was never even installed, I actually forgot to film it and never got around to re-doing it, i'll put up a caption when I get time.

    No. First you want to put a small shim on each gear so it doesn't contact the case. Then you want to look at each pair of gears to make sure they mesh together well. You may need to add another shim or two so there is optimal teeth to teeth contact. If you don't do this. You just wasted time and will blow out your gears.

    Its an ACSU V2 trigger unit, those thin wires are the data wires that connect it to the main unit, and determine burst, single shot, ab etc

  • @AirsoftingTutorials
    @AirsoftingTutorials  11 лет назад +2

    Its simple when you know how.
    To simplify it:
    1. Shim each gear individually to the gearbox
    2. Shim the bevel to the motor
    3. Shim the spur to bevel
    4. Shim the sector to the spur
    5. Place all the gears in add a small amount of grease to the bushings and test.
    Thanks

      thankyou, best tutorial for shimming. i have question on bevel to motor step, my bevel and my motor is too tight even without any shim on the wide suface side, do you have any suggestion?

  • @AirsoftingTutorials
    @AirsoftingTutorials  11 лет назад

    With a version three the motor is usually in a cage, Just attach it to one side of the gearbox with the bevel gear in place and then adjust with the screw at the end of the motor cage until it is in the right place.

    you dont need to drill a hole in the gearbox. you can just screw the pistol grip on the other half of the gearbox shell with the bevel gear and find the correct motor height.

  • @AirsoftingTutorials
    @AirsoftingTutorials  11 лет назад

    Thanks, i think you mean 0.15mm not 1.5mm as thats a massive gap!!
    For the gears to spin there will always be a small gap enough for grease. I like to give them a max of 0.05mm play, personal preference.
    Thanks for the comment.

    If you shim the gears correctly the tappet plate should not really be an issue, I have never had the tappet plate tight between the gearbox shell and the sector gear before so I didn't know to include it in the video for shimming. I usually check this when I do a pre-build to make sure everything is in the correct place and functioning properly. However i think that that your point is a good one and should be checked when shimming.

    @ZaCkOX900 12 лет назад

    I just think you should drill a hole at a different location which would still do the same peeping but also allow the pistol grip to be installed. I do no guessing when shimming. Also to point out the body can create a problem for motor height pinion shimming. No bushings or bearings are glued down or stated to do so. I have done a lot of different brand installing and seen many shimming problems that are not stated online.

    It could be a few a things:
    Quality of the gears
    The gearbox itself
    If you try each individually and they make no noise i may just be the gears and you may not be able to do much. Try adding a small amount of grease to the teeth and axels of all the gears as well as the bushings, it may just be the metal on metal contact. A few of my gears especially in cheaper gearboxes make a small amount of grinding noise but once its all assembled you cant really tell.

    An automotive parts or hardware store should have a decent selection of various lubricants. Pure silicone grease is good for air seal parts, while lithium or molybdenum grease is good for mechanical parts like the gears.

  • @supersmashbrosevil

    Very well explained, however I think it's easier to attach the grip to one half of the gearbox to see the motor height, no need to drill

    That trigger is an ASCU V2 trigger it's about £60 to buy, there are lots of videos on youtube about it. I could do one on installing it, but it is very easy to do and probably not worth it.

    I wouldn't say there should be no vertical movement. 1.5 mm of movement so lube can make its through. Other wise I think its a great video!

    The other videos are good but this one missed more than a few important points. Also the drilled hole is a bad spot. I would NEVER recommend to drill the hole there. Cut-off was never even installed. No tappet plate was checked either.

    You don't need any Shims on the 'small' end of the Bevel Gear.
    The Motor Pinion Gear keeps the Bevel Gear tight against the Shims on the other end, so it can't physically move to the left.
    You need to shim the Bevel to mate correctly with the Pinion.

    when I finish shimming and assembled my gun. I tried shooting but the gears lock up and leaves the piston cranked but not pulled all the way to the back nor release to complete the cycle. if i keep pulling the trigger it makes a buzzing sound without any gear spinning.

    • @HereticEngaged
      @HereticEngaged 9 лет назад +1

      Your motor is probably in too high or has too much contact with your bevel gear. Shim via the bevel to pinion method and start off shimming the rest from there.

    • @rianryl1015
      @rianryl1015 9 лет назад

      hi HereticEngaged yes. Right after i posted this comment i adjusted my motor. It was too high. I realized when i was adjusting the motor height while the gearbox was open is different than when it is actually fired. THANK YOU.

    Great video. But is there a double job? Why not skip straight to phrase 2? Are you using ASCU? Noticed there is no cut off lever.
    And also, if you are using Spectre, more likely you are to shim sector gear 1st (to contact the cut off switch detector) and work your way to the bevel gear.

    • @Tek_777
      @Tek_777 7 лет назад

      up2wind81 that's actually false. I have shimmed several gearboxes with btc fets and I ALWAYS start with the bevel to pinion. It is wrong to do otherwise as it can cause poor shimming or unnecessary wear on other parts. The way to shim a build with a btc fet is to shim bevel to pinion and if and ONLY IF the sector doesn't touch the cutoff switch, take a shim off the bottom and put it on the top. I have never had any issues with a sector not contacting the switch anyway. You have to shim pretty high for it occur.

    I've got two guns that I've built. Both with SHS 14:1 gears, and SHS contacts. I've found that my semi flickers between semi and auto. It's the contact trolley/shuttle that the cut off lever sear has been worn down a lot so semi doesn't work. This is my 3rd set of SHS contacts. Is there a better alternative?

    few shims as possible under the gears, majority on top.

      nope

    • @dogg755
      @dogg755 9 лет назад

      wanna explain?

    • @skatzre
      @skatzre 9 лет назад

      The bevel to pinion meshing would be incorrect if you shim the spur as low as possible. The biggest transfer of energy occurs between the bevel and the pinion gear, so if that was not shimmed properly, your gun would have incorrect meshing.

    • @skatzre
      @skatzre 9 лет назад

      Commonly in VFC guns, when replacing the auto shimming gears with normal gears, the majority of the shims are on the bottom, with one or two on the top. That is because if there were more on the top, the bevel would be pushing onto the pinion and grinding. Source: airsoft tech and has owned 4 VFCs and worked on countless others. Same with JG. I cannot speak for other guns except G&P, BUT i ASSUME it would be the same due to the size of the bevel.
