I’ve been on Tramadol for 20 years about 6 tablets a day and they work for me it takes about half hour to kick in but the relief is superb the only thing well 2 actually is that I’ve had two kidney stones and I now have the shakes in my legs when sat down does anyone out there have the same symptoms I would love to know please let know one last thing if I forget to take them I get a horrible feeling of shakes and nausea and that is terrible believe me it’s happened a few times like withdrawal symptoms terrible thanks for reading this and your help
I strongly disagree that Tramadol does not help with chronic pain vs. acetaminophen. For those with severe osteoarthritis will get much more relief from low doses of Tramadol while products like Advil and Tylenol are like taking nothing.
I have severe arthritis in my shoulders, neck and SI joints. Chronic bad pain that is dablitating and so bad I can’t breathe. If it wasn’t for tramadol, I prob would not be here today. It’s the strongest stuff I can get prescribed befor they put me on morphine or some other vegaative drug. Literly has saved my life. I take pregabalin and naproxen as well. And they all work well and don’t hinder my daily life too much. I can function with daily stuff.
I agree, I have used Ultram\ Tramadol (with Lyrica & Naproxen) for severe spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis and it has worked very well, plus, it helped with other issues. A few years ago my insurance changed coverage to only the Generic which at first worked ok, but something has happened to the formulation since the "war on drugs" began in the U.S., so it is no longer as efficient as it was. It still helps more than other medications for the pain, but it now has different random & uncomfortable side affects. Some commenters on other sites have said that the fillers have changed, others have said the Generic is produced in other Countries (India, China, etc) and the entire formula has been altered. Whatever the reason is, it's it is now substandard, just as most generics are.
Sad thing is after many years on any medication it is less affective because your body is accustomed to it. After 10 years on a low dose of this it started to give me major diaherra issues. I didn't have to step down from it I went cold turkey to end the bowel issues. Never missed it. Tart Cherry Extract that I get from Walmart works just as good as Tramadol minus stomach upset.
I recently was struck with severe sciatic pain and could barely take a step. The PA at the Ortho walk-in clinic, after seeing clearly how much pain I was in, was getting ready to leave the room without prescribing anything at all. When I asked about something for pain, he gave me a terrified look and said "I can't do that, I'll get in trouble." Get in trouble??? That's how he judges pain management?? He finally prescribed Tramadol which I already knew would do nothing. (And it didn't.) I left crying in part from pain and partly from anger. While I get the concern over the addiction aspects, I only wanted enough pain killer to be able to minimally function...like get to the bathroom. Eventually I got heavy steroids and a real painkiller which I only took until I could handle the pain. I still have 1/3 of the bottle left. Drs. should be able to manage a patient's pain when it's extreme and not worry only about being sued. I'm glad Tramadol works for some people but I don't think it should be prescribed for extreme pain.
I was admitted to an E.R and an overnight stay in the hospital for kidney stones. I passed several on morphine. One stone was 7mm, which shocked the nurses that I passed it on my own. Diagnosed as a "producer" with both kidneys full of small stones. I was refused opioids and told by the urologist that I could mask a serious situation (like falling to the floor and projectile vomit from pain wouldn't clue me in?) and to use Tylenol and heating pad. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "You of all people know what this pain is like", still wouldn't prescribe even10 pills and shoved it off on my nurse practitioner. This is in NO way pain management. We have gone from doling opioid out like candy to NOTHING!
@@optimystic1282 Exactly!!! That is why I am so angry about it. It's absolutely absurd when someone is in extreme pain not to give them APPROPRIATE pain management even if temporary. For a PA to say to me "I'll get in trouble!" is ridiculous. Like you said, it went from candy to nobody gets any. I'm considering complaining to the management there. They left me to lay in a bed 24/7 barely able to get up to go pee. I'm sorry for what you went through...I totally get it.
Tramadol has helped me with my anxiety and i got my life back on 100mg a day.. helped me with buisness and my social life..i dont want to stop what are the long term effects?
I must be in the five percent without the enzime to make m-1 because my doctors have tried it a few times on my cronic pain and it was like taking a sugar pill. It did absolutely nothing to my pain. I never knew about the enzime thing until seeing this video! Thank you!!!
Was given Tramadol once after slipping and causing major back trauma. The walls turned to jelly and the furniture started marching across the room, I thought I was walking up a steep hill, my husband tells me I was lying on the floor. Felt really, really sick as it wore off. Never, ever again.
I take tramadol, and it works on my pain ,but now if I dont take it, I get cramps, rare sensation , very creeping sensation , and it force me to run to take it.
I had a horrible earache due to a botched ear lavage and was prescribed tramadol. This med did absolutely nothing for my pain. I just took 800 mg ibuprofen instead.
I have been using Tramadol successfully for over 10 years. I use from 50 to 200 mg a day depending on the pain level. I have also been able to stop using it when I don’t have pain. Basically, I don’t think about taking Tramadol unless pain pushes me there. I don’t know why it works so well for me, but it drastically improves the quality of my life! 💗
I’m with you Melody. I have neuropathy - pain in my feet. Tramadol works extremely well for me. I’ve been taking it for almost 7 years now and like one of the other gentleman said I take it when I need it and it works great for me. I do not have diabetes but I recently started taking Lyrica. Lyrica just barely works but if there’s not a lot of trauma to my feet while I’m working then it works good enough for me. So now I take less tramadol. But tramadol works as good now as it ever did when I started taking it.
I was out on it years ago for IBS pain. Real pain pills hurt my stomach. Tramadol 50mg cut in half 3 times a day allowed me to live a normal life. Now doctors won’t prescribe it so I live a life I wish I didn’t have to live. If I didn’t have kids that depend on my I wouldn’t be here. To live in pain all day every day and the doctor won’t give you when you know works, why see doctors, why live if you can’t live
In my addiction, I became addicted to tramadol. But it was my choice to choose to use drugs in the first place. I ended up taking up to 50 pills a day. But I believe for people who aren't prone to addiction, it could help out. I don't blame anyone but myself for my actions and have been clean for 7 years now. Thanks for the video
@pijnto OMG! You summed it up perfectly for me too! I fell and shattered my wrist a few years back. Ended up having to have a plate and 7 screws. I had to wait 10 days before I was scheduled with a surgeon. I was released from the ER with Tramadol...because of the opioid abuse addiction! After an excruciating night my primary physician saw me and prescribed hydrocodone. Which was enough, I didn't need or ask for oxycontin! As long as my wrist was stationary...😟
I'm a chronic pain patient. I've been on numerous opioids as well as tramadol in my past. In my opinion, tramadol is great for mild-to-moderate pain. It doesn't cover severe pain at all. Remember all medications have various effects depending on the person.
Did wonders for my back pain but I exercised a lot balancing the adrenaline and yoga like stretches to calm my metabolism keeping everything in a good balance, 100mg a day 50mg in the morning then another around dinner time, it did increase sometimes depending on extra exercise I required or extra hours at work or labour intensity needed, 100mg well below the suggested dosage a day and very easy and safe to work with, sometimes I would just combine regular painkillers in conjunction with the trammadol instead of increasing the regular 200mg but rarely needed too, hope this was helpful.
I'm on Tramadol 150 mg 12 hour time release twice a day always with Panodil (Tylenol), 3 times a day. I have no withdrawal when I run out, except the pain that it removes, and loose bowels as opioids cause constipation until your body adjusts. I've been on it for 15 years and it allows me to walk and maintain regular exercise for cardio and proper spinal posture for my cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis. (bone spurs). 90% of men age 65 have spondylosis which can remain benign unless a traumatic impact causes them to impact your spinal chord permanently like a detached hinge from an overhead bin on an airplane inflight that turns the bags stowed within into missiles or 40 pounds smack in your face from a sling shot.
Oh my , I’ve been taking Tramadol -50mg , 2 per day ! This has kept the edge off of my arthritic pain for a long time! I’m 76 years old and I know that this works! I beg to differ with your study! This is prescribed by my doctor!
100mg of tramadol per day is so very low! You are very lucky that this keeps the edge off your arthritic pain! I know people who take 2x50mg tablets of tramadol with 2x500mg of paracetamol four times a day (maximum dose) with minimal effect on their pain relief. 🤔😘
Tramadol might be fine for acute pain or mild chronic pain. I have severe chronic pain and realized several years ago, that Tylenol did as much for me, so I stopped taking it. It may be classified as an Opioid, but also seen as the bottom rung on the pain med ladder. All of we legitimate pain med users have been hurt by the addicts. We legits should be coming together as a faction, so our concerns are heard by the Dr.'s, the politicians, and the general public. Thank you.
Absolutely. Sometimes I think a doctor is suspicious of me just wanting to get opiates. I've been dealing with acute pain since 2006. I had one doctor actually accuse me of just wanting opiates before I even took an MRI. At the time I had 9 herniated disks in my lower back, neck, and a straight spine that causes extreme pain. He said I should take 4800 milligrams of Ibuprofen daily. I have stopped taking pain meds, years ago, because of this and the side effects that I don't like. Problem is that even with the side effects my life was much better...So now I lay in bed for 22 hours a day to keep my pain at a minimum. I won't even bother to ask a doctor for help anymore because I feel like I'm going to be judged to be an addict or abuser.
I was an ER RN for 9 years, in the days when everyone who had pain from an ingrown toenail to a sprained ankle got Dilaudid and percocets. I agree that the drug addicts have ruined it for all the legitimate people, but so have the Drs that gave the narcs out like candy. Last year I was thrown from a horse and was in excruciating pain. When I was at the ER, I knew better than to even mention pain meds, because I didn’t want to be seen as a seeker. And I’m an RN! They did give me Tramadol, which made me feel fortunate, as I wasn’t expecting anything. Most people get nothing more than ibuprofen. Bottom line, in this day and age, you better start biting down on a wooden spoon….
I have chronic low back pain and Tylenol does absolutely nothing for my pain. I used to take ibuprofen which helped until I ended up in the ER with a painful case of gastritis. I use Tramadol 100 mg PRN snd dm fortunate that I have zero addictive issues with it.
I have MS. I've been in constant pain for about 12 years. Prior to MS, I did not know there was more than one type of pain. In addition to nerve pain, there are a lot of other pains that I deal with. Tramadol works great for me; Norco takes the edge off, but tramadol is actually more effective. All of the various drugs I've been prescribed, that were not Opioids, did nothing. At this point I could not live with the pain, so I am very thankful for having a doctor who is still willing to prescribe.
I have MS as well. Gabapentin and Tramadol have worked well for me. It lessons my pain to a manageable level. I prefer to use minimal pain relief so that I can detect when there is an increase in pain. Overmedicating pain relief can make it difficult to determine when there is a change in a chronic condition.
I've been searching for a doctor who understands that this was okay for me to take but I had to plead with him to help me with this awful pain that's been wracking my body for twenty years; I really have to advocate for myself because I live alone and I don't have any help with daily chores
It wasn’t always an opioid until it was abused. I was on it before it was an opioid. The side effect of serotonin actually benefits me. As no depression medication works for me. So this side effect is a huge benefit for me. It helps pain but it doesn’t effect me like other pain meds where you feel loopy and out of it. But I am on a low dose. In higher doses one might find tiredness. Mentally it helps my depression and pain. I may have lucked out
Tramadol worked great for me while I was in hospice. Now a prescription requires me to be reevaluated every 30 days by my doctor. Something that is difficult and expensive for me. Now I'm using a vaporizer micro dosing medical marijuana. It helps me manage the pain and depression. But only the opioids stopped my pain from nerve damage.
Similar here. I have used tramadol successfully for 12 years for pain and low mood/depression as well as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). I have never experienced craving for it as I do for coffee and used to with alcohol at times. I can stop immediately without issue. The effective dose for me has remained stable at about 200-300 mg daily for 12 years. I get so much more done while using it. I have not discovered any side effects (except perhaps some mild dizziness under some circumstances). There is no constipation.
Thank you for your video, I’ve been taking Tramadol for several years for arthritis and spinal stenosis 50 mg a day, I couldn’t work without it, the pain is just to intense, I wish there wasn’t such a bad stigma about pain meds, it makes me feel ashamed I have to take it, the drug tests, all the posters in Dr office etc. I’m 62 years old
I feel the same way! Why can’t they give you the benefit of the doubt. I have never taken Tramadol (in fact I just learned about it now), but I take Tylenol with codein and understand the hassles pharmacists etc. can give you even though I only take 2 a day as prescribed for chronic migraines. I once had to go to a different dr. to get my prescriptions b/c my own was away on holiday, and he told me “I would never give you this if you were my patient!” You’d think I was asking for heroin!! In fact it’s all those heroin addicts out there who they should really be going after! All the heroin in Vancouver is laced with Fentanyl and the addicts are dropping (dying) like flies! Clamp down on China who exports that crap to other countries b/c it is legal in their country to manufacture it!
I agree with pijnto’s comment. Tramadol did nothing for my pain. I found when I was working as a nurse there were many patients that it didn’t work for yet drs refused to believe that.
It really varies person to person. I use Tramadol 100 mg for chronic back pain on a PRN basis only. Sometimes I may take 1-2 a day on bad days but then I often go a week or longer with none. I have zero addictive issues to it.
I’ll bet you’re still on it, and I’ll bet you will feel really re@lly bad if you stop using it. I heartily recommend that you switch to another opiate . Tramadol has a very prolonged withdrawal period. Please be aware of this.
Wow. This is all makes my experience so much clearer. I had spine surgery and my doctor prescribed Tramadol to avoid giving me heavy pain meds for long term use. I kept trying to tell the doctor it was a completely different type of pain relief. This was a few years ago when they didn't believe you could become dependent. It relieved my pain but also...I became almost manic. I can take or leave pain meds. They make me tired and I can't function. Tramadol was a different. It felt great and I was functioning well... but it became necessary to take the Tramadol to feel great and function. I was terrified. It was tough to stop. Like going off a long term antidepressant symptoms. Beware!
In other words, beware of psych meds. You CANNOT get off of them, nor should you. Tramadol is very friendly and has no adverse side-effects when taken properly (not up-dosing). If you taper off Tramadol, there is only about a week recovery time (very mild withdrawal). If you became manic on tramadol, you probably updosed to an unsafe level. My provider also prescribed Gabapentin, which I taper onto as I taper off the Tramadol. This method eliminates withdrawal. Getting off Gabapentin, I found, has almost no withdrawal at all. I avoid taking Tramadol at long intervals. But pain and lack of function becomes intolerable, so I return to the 50 to 100MG a day for a couple weeks, then take a break. It sure beats any alternative.

Yes, the effect Tram has on Seritonin makes the WD different and more difficult than real (natural) Opiates. WD is hard with either type of meds, but Tram has a whole different dimension of WD symptoms.
Tramadol is different from other opioids due to the fact it does NOTHING. It is a waste of money. It is a waste of time. And all the while you still hurt. And, what, the doctor will have you on it for two weeks before he tries something different? And your pain is exasperated by all your frustration at having been sold basically a placebo. Maybe Tramadol works for some people. Good. I hope it has done something for someone. It did nothing for me or anybody else I know who got it. After you experience the frustration, the next time a doctor hands you a script for some you will be like me: You will say, "Dammit All! Its Tramadol."
Yeah, ibuprofen works better than Tramadol on pain. Ruptured a disc in my neck. Took Tramadol for one day and went right back to the doctor for a real pain medication. My doctor joked that he knew it didn't work but they have to try it first before they give you "the good stuff"
Well, I'm Scottish and have been taking Tramadol for around 8 years for arthritis in my spine, hip joints and knees. I'm also prescribed gabapentin along with the Tramadol. I have never had any side effect, and the pain relief (for arthritis) is amazing compared to no pain relief at all. I cannot take NSAIDs as they attack my stomach. Nothing else I was given really worked and after 2 years of other combinations of other painkillers, I was prescribed my current medication. Tramadol, up to 8 per day. Gabapentin, 3 per day. Ibuprofen, up to six a day. Arthritis pain is agony and very debilitating. With these meds, I can actually have a life!
My partner had terrible arthritis for 5 years. She took Tramadol, Gabapentin and Paracetemol every day. She now takes no meds, and has no pain after adopting a carnivore diet as advocated by Mikhaila Peterson. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. No pain for 3 years now. Her GP is baffled.
My friend I've known since middle school was in a terrible motorcycle accident and he cut his leg off on a guard rail in the impact when his bike hit it. He went over the rail and landed at the edge of a swamp. The last 5 years have been a challenging time, he was always the "mind over matter" type who could be found doing stunts because he was in such great control of his body and fitness. Well, life changed when we were staring down age 30. He had a lot of nasty painful infections that all the infectious disease specialists from within a 200 mile radius couldn't identify or fully defeat. They sent all of his samples to the U.S. CDC to try to get advice, because my dear friend's open wound was a swamp's Petri dish & it's highly unusual for a person to survive what he specifically did. The bacteria that rots whatever dies there was trying to eat him alive, long-term... So they offered all the pain pills there are, the oxys and Roxys, morphine, dilaudid, and none of them helped- so they offered more! This guy hated drugs, but he wanted those to help, and they didn't. They only made him feel ways he doesn't like feeling. People harassed him over wanting to get their hands on his pills too, which was insulting, annoying and alarming bc he knew sooner or later someone would try to break in while he was away at an appt. You know what helped him in the end? High doses of gabapentin and lower doses of tramadol. These medications are abusable, for sure, but they're not debilitating and don't give a buzz when taken as directed. They work better for this terrible injury than any of the heavy stuff ever did, & once the junkies around town found out he switched to these, they all let him be. It was perfect, cuz he was more than ready to get back to living life. Gabapentin & tramadol meant he could get a new job, take his boat out to fish & travel the shore communities, and his riding friends worked together to build him a custom bike with a hand brake that he was super happy to take out on the road. That combination gave him his life back, and that says a lot to me as a person who was with him thru everything leading up to the ability to enjoy things that can't be done from a chair.
Tramadol worked great for me. But at least for myself it had a huge stimulant effect. Felt like I'd had about 5 or 6 cups of coffee. But great for the pain =)
Me too, I can’t take it after 2pm, but if pain is massive at bedtime, I take 1/4 of caplet. It’ s great when I first wake up, it’s useless when I got the flu so I go cold turkey since I feel lousy already. I been pretty consistent about my dose, I’ll probably b on it the rest of my life-spinal stenosis and compressed discs-but I will not go over prescribed dose. If I start feeling like my body needs more, I cut back. It’s actually helped with my depression, unexpected benefit. Whew, I was wondering if I was imaging this but to find ur comment is a relief.
I just had a partial nefrectomy a month ago and was given Tramadol after surgery while still in hospital. It did absolutely nothing for the pain. After complaining repeatedly they gave me a pain pump with dilaudid every 10 minutes which worked really well and kept the pain at a tolerable level so I could sleep. It may work for certain types of pain ... just not after major surgery. ✌❤
As you noted, it is not for the immediate post op surgery period. I worked Post Anesthesia and Pain Clinic for my career. If you were my patient, and you did not have any contraindications, and assuming it was the surgeon that ordered it, I would go straight over his head to the anesthesiologist and get you something effective. Getting appropriate pain relief after you wake is key to reducing the trauma and anxiety and generally most people will have a better post op period and get out of bed sooner and do much better in general. Using it for chronic pain is a completely different scenario. Sorry you had to go through that. It was my number one pet peeve, not given effective and appropriate medication in the PACU.

Im 42 and have had chronic pain since college. Tramadol is the only thing that has helped fibromyalgia for me. My doctor said that in some people it makes fibro worse. She was glad we found something to help me. It's the only thing that gets me up and moving most days. Lifts my mood too. I take 1 to 2 everyday, some days I dont take any. I cant take it late at night, because I will have trouble sleeping. Cool video.

Tramadol allowed me to function normally and live a productive life for over 20 years. The VA prescribed it for chronic pain that they could not identify. When Tramadol could not tame an increasing pain cycle that was out of control I was prescribed Hydrocodone as needed; usually 1 or 2 times a month. Two months ago, the VA told me that this combination could now be fatal and would not allow me to continue. The VA now has me on Hydrocodone alone. It has not given my life back. I was recently told that the VA could do nothing else for my current pain. I feel that I no longer have a life of value.
Prayers for you. I deal with chronic pain that never ends. People who are not in some pain daily have no tolerance of people who are. It's a cruel cycle that never seems to end.
Give tramadol another try, i find that acetaminophen will boost the pain relief affect. Hydrocodone is causing those feeling of uselessness. I use the VA also, if your doctor isn’t helping, you can switch to another one… it’s your right as a veteran. Don’t ever give up!
Raymond, I feel ya brother. I use the VA as well. Ask your physician to put in an order for community care to be seen in the real world. It might take awhile to figure how to do it. Go to a doc on the outside that is directly related to what is causing the pain. Once you are seen by them share your story. Oh, when you ask for the order to be put in for community care don't say it is for Tramadol or pain related treatment. Don't even talk about pain medications. Right now the VA is making all it's doctors give write ups on all patients using pain meds. Then after each write up they have to schedule drug tests and other protocols. I tell you this because it is far easier for an unethical VA doctor to deny you tramadol so they don't have to work as hard. Learn the game brother and stay a step ahead of them. It's better than chronic pain and the suicide option. Believe me, I know. Stay safe.
@@lightning9279 this comment was so helpful I’m 31 and I’ve been fighting for 8 years trying everything under the sun and I am at my wits end when it comes to the VA about getting actual relief for my osteoarthritis, herniated discs and spinal stenosis pain. They are not interested at all in even letting me try tramadol or anything close to it. It’s been a heck of a journey I’m going to look into community care I’m trying not to give up on getting the help I need.
I've been on Tramadol 50mg for 20+ yrs for arthritits in my upper back! I had to increase it over the yrs but then, I weened myself from 8 pills a day to 3! [Happy about tht!] I try to take less as possible but my pain gets worse the older I get! I'll be 70 yrs old in March but It allows me to get thr' each day [some what] normally! I've just "learned" to deal w/ pain & I'm thankful I'm doing as well as I am! IT could be worse 😥 Thank you Dr for your input! 💕
Good for you. I quit cold turkey and withdrawals sucked bad. I took 4 a day for 15 years. Dr said i would not get addicted but i did..it screwed my brain up, i dont injoy things i use to at 65. Tram helped my long time depression to. On antidepressants now for 7 years and does not help. Taking tram i could fall asleep any time in 5 min which was scary. One reason why i stopped it..good for you going off slow. Keep it up..i am retired so i figure if i hurt i dont have to do anything. I needed it to be able to work. Pain was bad i could not get out the door to work..god bless be safe
Your condition sounds nearly in exact to what I am dealing with since late 1980s in my twenties then, now I am in my early 60s, and the pains from Spinal Stenosis and now arthritis too, I can function minimally. Walking is almost impossible! Few steps then must stop because my legs would “lockup.” I’ve had a surgery for the Sciatica : Laminectomy, Spinal fusion, and the grafting of the spine too. It’s been twenty plus years now, and the shooting pain from the Sciatica is gone but the Stenosis of the Spine? Gotten worse! Anyway, I’d thought that the Tramidol may help me in non addictive way but nope! It acts in the same way as the Oxycodone aka OxyContin. I have cut the doses down from where I was, 240mcg down to 60mcg at present! I had to actually, the doctors were under watch by the government agencies so they feared retribution! It’s a long story to get into it here. I just wanted to share my experiences and the frustrations with someone who’d understand. Thank you for sharing your experiences, I appreciate it sincerely. Tramadol worked for me but I had to come off it due to a certain antidepressant. I was taken off it cold turkey which to me is criminal. The withdrawal symptom were hellish for days and days. Please use it VERY carefully because addiction to this drug is very real. Thank you for the upload Dr.
Elizabeth S- what dose were you on when you went cold turkey? I agree it is cruel and criminal of your doctor to stop it without tapering. I know someone on it wanting to get off. How long did your withdrawal symptoms last? I hope you are ok now.
I use tramadol on a regular basis , 100-150 mg a day . It helps with my lower back pain and gives me a general sense of well being . I have experience at times very brief confusion or on rare occasions have had brain fog , but all in all it seems to assist . Thanks for the information .
Actually an Australian study less than 12 months old showed paracetamol did not help with spinal arthritic pain. It was a robust study, tramadol like many other drugs suits some people and not others. Tramadol helps me to actually move and I’ve chosen to use paracetamol and tramadol combined. By the way anti inflammatory drugs long term does have a eroding effect on the stomach which leads to huge issues including germ, especially people suffering from fibromyalgia. There’s a risk in everything we take and responsible use is the key, it’s not for everyone.
I was prescribed Tramadol and provide me a great relief for my low back pain. However, I am very cautious with this medication. Thank you for a great presentation!!!
Thanks for this very informative video! My wife took tramadol after her back surgery years ago, and it was absolutely the worst time of our marriage. She was withdrawn and seemed not to care about anyone or anything. She got into a couple of car accidents, with our children in tow. She showed behaviors that I would never share publicly. I didn't know that the tramadol itself could be a problem, but also that her pain specialist gave her tramadol at the same time that our general doctor had her on 2 antidepressants was also a big problem. Everyone should see this video before taking tramadol!
It’s a very good video indeed. I was prescribed this medicine after two different knee replacements. It was pretty close to useless. Fortunately, I never had any side effects from it. I didn’t receive a proper explanation of the possible reactions from it. Reactions I could easily have had due to other medications I was on. I am fortunate to that I never had any inclination to take it when not in pain or to take more than needed. It is interesting to see the variety of experiences people have had with this medicine. People have commented that it was about as useful as a piece of candy. I agree. Except my thought was that a good ice cream would be better at pain reduction and actually be more addictive.
Most likely dosages were to much .along with anti depressants . They actually can and often do. Work in the reverse. Turning you into just what it should cure. SSRIs. Can cause reverse symptoms. Shock . Mania . Or zombie effect. I don’t like them. I stay on Tramadol regardless . Because . I had that condition BEfORE Tramadol . mania pts. Etc. it’s the only way I can have a life. And be balanced. Trying different SSRI’S nearly killed me.. twice!! With my breath being cut off. Amitriptyline. Put me in the hospital . On first dose. It was a long unhappy time. I’m glad I found Tramadol . But I was< sick. Not a abuser. Experimenting. I’m sorry they did that. If they did. Because it gave the medicine a bad rap. You need to be monitored by a Docter.
I have had all these, for post spinal operation, arthritis in spine etc., also stenosis in three places. I have stopped all of them and now rely on CBD oil. My mind is clearer, and it annoys me that orthodox doctors do not suggest this to patients. I suspect the Pharmaceutical companies are the reason.
Like most drugs, it affects individuals differently. For me, Tramadol has been very effective. I’ve only used it when necessary, but if/when I have stopped using it after any extended period of time, I get leg leg-jitters/sleepless leg syndrome when I’m trying to sleep. I have to power through this for a week or so until they are gone.
I had serotonin syndrome when taking Tramadol and other meds and had to go to the emergency room for treatment. I went through a withdrawal that was miserable. The doctor who prescribed it insisted it was not an opioid!
You need to go to a chiropractor and get spinal decompression , I was scheduled for back surgery for 3 herniated discs and went to chiropractor the week before and am been pain free for 11 years , no surgery
@@heknows5418 everyone is different. Herniated discs should never be manually manipulated. The best chiropractors will agree. Decompression through stretching on an inversion table is best. It takes time, mindful posture and daily exercise regardless of your level of movement.
@@heknows5418 ah man, that’s what I did before. At first I thought I just had normal sciatica and it would go away in a couple of weeks. But it didn’t. I had a surgery 3 months ago. Not a fusion though. I feel a little relief. But not 100% yet
Blessings on you, i was one of the first to use tramadol in this country, they never told us the addictive qualities or the horrible withdrawal, other dr's laughed when you wanted to get off the stuff, they told me to just "get off then" nobody believed this drug had withdrawals close to heroine in my opinion. they gave me 6 trams a day, 2, morning ,noon .night... and cut me off after two years on it, please tell them to be careful with this medication i almost died going through it.
Could you share more about your experience, please? How hard it was to withdraw? Did you do it in the hospital or home? My husband is going through it after 7+ years of taking this meds. Every time he is trying to stop he can’t because he feels he will die. I’m very worried and trying to find information from people how they stopped this medicine and how quickly they recovered
I was on Tramacet for five years for back pain. My liver got quite large, but after recovering from spinal surgery, I stopped cold turkey with no cravings or side effects. My liver has reduced a lot in size since. Is that a common side effect?
Did not work as a pain killer for me but I had some nasty side effects including hallucinations - seeing snakes in my bed, and talking to people who weren’t there. Very scary stuff…

everyone is effected differently. this is a miracle drug for me. 3 shoulder repairs and nothing both relived pain, and didnt turned me into a zombie...except tramadol. I sleep soundly every night, wake up alert and refreshed, and dont feel like jumping off a bridge.
I have been on Tramadol or Marol as it is known here,,I was put on it in 2008 after an industrial accident ..the first side effect I noticed was God awful constipation,,after taking the drug for 6 months I noticed I could no longer get an erection and my brain had no sexual feelings or thoughts ,It took me quite some time to discover this,Only when my 30 year marriage broke down..I am still on it for severe back pain {sciatica}..I now call this pill the Castrater..No mention about these side effects are mentioned in this Video,,I dont recommend anyone to take this drug.
I have been taking it for years for spinal nerve damage from transverse mylitis. I have leg,feet,and back pain. It works well for me. I have never had any side effects.
Interesting to read about your TM…I also had TM about 18 years ago at age 48…I have all your symptoms and use tramadol but not daily. I use Panadol Oesteo and Celecoxib combo on most days and Tramadol on bad days…my walking is getting worse due to hip pain and scoliosis but I try and gym exercise about five times a week to keep moving. It’s a very disease and I’ve not met anyone ever, who’s had it. I wish you well.
This drug was worse for me than the pain. Could not keep liquids, food, meds. down…vomited for hours. Took 36 hours to get out of my system. I now use CBD balm, works great….
I use gab. And tramadol for arthritis in my hands. Its only when I get inj. in my hands. I wish I could fund something for the pain so its always temporally relief. But it makes mr itch. Thanks for the break down Doctor.

I take it from pain clinic for chronic back issues . It’s kept me in work , although I do worry I’ve been on it so long . Never once have I gone over my dose I take slow release
When I first looked at the title of this presentation, my thought was Tramadol was a female robot that could exercise with me on a trampoline. At age 86, i shouldn't be thinking stuff like that.

I have used Tramadol daily for many years for fibromyalgia/chronic pain. 50mg 2-3 times a day. It has been an absolute lifesaver after trying many many other options.
I was prescribed Tramadol for pain while awaiting my hip replacement. It was the worst experience I've had with any pain medication. I continually felt as if I was on the edge of death, was afraid to sleep because I felt I wouldn't wake up. But I was also literally nodding off if I sat up. It didn't do much for the pain. If anything, the terrible side effects distracted me from how much my hip hurt. Post-op pain med was Percocet for a few weeks and the difference was amazing. Pain relief, I could function semi-normally without nodding off, I slept well without believing I was going to die in my sleep and recovered ahead of schedule.
Tramadol was over for me after I swallowed just one. What an experience. For my back pain, I will take a mild muscle relaxer and tylenol or aspirin. In my case if the muscle has gone into a spasm, it’s the muscle relaxer that ends it in a good rest. (Very few meds ingested, and problem cared for). Brain altering pain killers to me, just do not make sense. I watched a great hair stylist and business owner turn into a mental midget, on opioids.
I've taken it, "as needed" for 24 years now. I probably need it 4 or 5 times a year. It's like a miracle for me. Of course, now days every Dr. you talk to raises an eyebrow. Lucky for me, my old dog takes it for pain too.
Avoid it for long-term usage!!!! Really! It made me almost Zombie with huge anxiety. I lost 2 years of my life. When I stopped it after a month I came back to myself.
About 15 years ago I was having a lot of low back pain knee pain etc and I also have migraines (every migraine medication that I have tried causes severe hallucinations. I will never try them again). I had been going to the same doctor for about 2 years after I moved to another state and we talked about what medications I was taking and so forth. After she found out how much Advil I was taking on a regular basis she told me to stop taking it immediately and prescribed tramadol instead. At that time, tramadol was not listed as a class a drug nor an opioid. At first, I got a bit of a light head when I took it, but after a few months of taking it daily to deal with the migraines and just the general pain of riding horses for 30 years, being in several pretty severe car accidents, and grooming dogs for about the same amount of time, it helped if I took it with an Advil. I'm still of the belief that Advil is the best painkiller of all times. Real strong opioids don't do anything for me other than make me itch. The only time I had a super strong dose of morphine is when I had a hysterectomy. I've been taking tramadol for the past 15 years about 150 mg a day and it helps perfectly and doesn't cause me any issues. The problem is when it was shifted into the class a drug category. My problem is that those of us who have been taking it normally and safely for years and years are now lumped in with drug addicts. It's not right and now we have to jump through hoops to get a drug that we used to get a Year's worth of prescriptions for. Your doctor knows how you are using your prescriptions. Those of us who are responsible and take only as needed should not have to go through what they are currently forcing us to go through to manage what could be very difficult pain issues with a minor low totem pole so-called opioid drug. I am still grooming dogs at 49 years old and I would not be able to do it without tramadol. I could go back to taking the same amount of Advil I was taking before, but it would eat a hole in my stomach and could possibly cause kidney failure. Taking a low dose of tramadol along with a low dose of Advil or an extra strength Excedrin if I have a migraine manages my pain perfectly. So now I can take care of my farm and work my 60 to 70 hour week job without much trouble. But because of what is going on with opioids these days, I have to spend thousands of dollars going to a pain management clinic that I don't need in order to take a $4 drug that I'm never going to overdose on or that's really never going to cause me any problems. They have got to figure out a way of helping those who have a proclivity to taking too much medication and leaving those of us alone who have never had an issue with drugs and just want to work out regular lives.
Very well said i also have chronic pain, i got into a pain management 6 yrs ago and am now on oxycodone it is 5mg 4 times a day. I pet sit and would not be able to do this or anything else without pain meds i am looking for a quality of life. not quantity . I just read a good article on pain meds and they realized that they have screwed up with pain meds, that they are NECCESARILY for alit of people who ARE NOT ADDICTS. JUST LIKE EVERYONE WHO DRNKS US NOT AN ALCOHOLIC!!!
I feel the same about Tramadol. I’ve been taking it every 3-4 hours around the clock, literally 24/7, daily for over 9 years now due to chronic pain and severe daily migraines caused by a critical progressive and degenerative disease that affects nearly all of my organs and body systems to severe degrees, and for the last several years has left me primarily bed-bound. Basically, my body is progressively failing/shutting down on itself on a cellular level, and with that comes a lot of painful symptoms. Tramadol has truly been a Godsend. Part of my disease results in major metabolic issues, and for regular strong pain medications, my body is not able to properly metabolize them, which results in them having zero effect. Even IV Fentanyl in high doses, which is as potent as you can get when it comes to opiates, gives the same result as if you just did an IV saline flush for severe pain. Tramadol, for whatever reason, is something my body is able to metabolize better than any of the other opiates, and while my metabolic issues result in it being a bit less effective compared to when other people take it, most of the time at the very least it takes the edge off of my pain, and when you’re in severe pain, that feels like a miracle. I don’t know how I would live without it, and I don’t say that in an addictive sense, but because of how much quality it adds back to my life. Even well over 9 straight years of taking it 24/7 at maximum doses, I have ZERO addiction to it, and would be perfectly fine to stop taking it at any moment addictively speaking (though that would be torture in the aspect of pain). It’s not something I crave, it’s not something I have ever desired to abuse in any way, and I don’t ever foresee that changing. When I first started taking it, like you, it’s class had not changed yet. Getting a prescription filled was no hassle or stress at all, as it should be! Given that I take so much of it, my doctor would write scripts for massive quantities, and there were no worries about having it on hand and getting it on time. Then the class changed, and it became a nightmare! I’m forced through my insurance to get 90 day supplies through a mail order pharmacy for medications used on a regular basis, and dealing with both the insurance and the pharmacy is a full time job! Fortunately my doctor is wonderful and does everything she can, but she can only do so much. My orders/scripts are constantly getting canceled, constantly denied, there are constant requests for my doctor to repeatedly send in medical necessity letters and permissions, they will withhold pills, won’t send the amount prescribed, and countless other constant headaches! I can (somewhat) understand treating other opiates that way, but Tramadol is in NO way a drug that should be treated like the others. It’s not even remotely comparable. They aren’t saving/helping anyone by doing what they did, they are just hurting the people who genuinely need it for pain and have zero addiction to it. IF used as directed/prescribed, addiction to Tramadol is exceedingly RARE. Those of us who use it responsibly and as it is prescribed to us should NOT be the ones having to pay the price of those who choose to abuse it. None of this red tape is at all necessary for a drug like Tramadol. In my opinion, over the counter drugs can do far more damage than Tramadol could ever be capable of doing, and its classification change was WAY too drastic of a measure and completely unnecessary. It’s not comparable to high tier opioids in any way, yet it’s now treated like it is. It helps so many people, and is such an amazing pain management option, so it’s sad that it’s now become so difficult for both patients and doctors to get a prescription filled. If a doctor prescribes something for THEIR patient who THEY have assessed, nobody else who is NOT that patient’s doctor should be able to dictate whether or not that prescription is worthy of being fulfilled correctly and in a timely manner, especially not insurance or pharmacies. It’s just turned into one big circus that never ends.

I am in no way as bad as you are and just the bit of chronic pain I have from living a fantastic and active life (other than the car accidents), affects everything I do. It absorbs you. I don't think people who don't have chronic pain can at all understand how awful it can be. Then when you find something that works without making you feel like you've been drugged it is a Godsend then the govt has to get its dirty fingers involved. I will put your on my prayer list. Chinese medicine has also greatly improved some pretty severe problems I've had including lymphoma which I am currently being treated for. Praying you get relief. My heart goes out to you
@@lovesallanimals9948 Well sadly, people seem to think addiction to pain killers is a moral issue or is somehow limited to people who have a "tendency" to become addicted. Just like alcohol, there is a fine line between being able to drink a lot and enjoy it, to becoming reliant and dependent on it. Its not a risk worth taking. Because it is very very difficult to come back from a mental and physical addiction. Most people can't easily. The worst thing about addiction is how it alters a persons thinking. They don't even know its happening. Other people can see it before the person can. Its not there fault at all. However they are the only people who can address it. People can be psychologically addicted to almost anything and the most obvious sign that they are addicted is when they argue black and blue, that they are addicted and yet other people are very concerned.

I have been taking Tramadol for years.It really works for me .The only side effect that I don't like is I have a hard time going to sleep on it. I hate when people say it could kill you.Of course it can, but that goes for about anything if you abuse it.
I use to take Tramadol ..and mixed it with others codeine after 7 years I had 4 Violence fit’s.. I could of dies fews times .. the doctor save my life I been clean for 3 years nows in much better place ..the reason I could painkillers I was in motorcycle accident I was in bad place couldn’t walk for 15 months .?.
I take it for joint pain due to Crohn's Disease . As typical get a pain " killer " for pain without I think . Determining the exact cause of the pain and addressing that . As for damage from it I take Milk Thistle an herb known to protect and rejuvenate the liver . As for sleepiness due to its use I suggest the amino acid , Menatonin ? as a sleep aid . I have had Acupuncture for my pain , when I wanted / could afford it . Here in the USA there are " Community Acupuncture Clinics " . That offer it on a sliding fee / low cost basis that I have used . As for muscle and bone pain , it could be a deficiency in Vitamin D3 ! So , many alternative ways could and should address your pain .
I was an ER RN for 9 years. We called Tramadol “Dammitall”. 😂😂. Oh, and the patients hated Tramadol. I couldn’t tell you how many wadded up scripts I had thrown at me because the patient was mad that he/she wasn’t getting a stronger narcotic.
I believe it. It works amazingly well, though, when prescribed for pain connected to the diagnoses it is meant to treat, ie., fibromyalgia. Lol! I can picture your patients doing what you described, though. I am a NP w/ 30 years of experience, and I’ve seen it all.
Tramadol is brutal to get off of. It’s not the opioid part it’s the antidepressant part. I was on Vicodin for years and just quit one day and had no issues. Tramadol gave me brain zaps when I tried to quit it. That shit is brutal. Like getting an electric shock. I had to wean off over 2 months. Some don’t have an issue but if you do it’s horrible. The pain relief vs the side effects is not even close to being worth it.
I've been given tramadol multiple times over the years, but never got any relief from it. I told the doctor and they seemed to get annoyed with me about the fact that my pain didn't go away. Well, knowing that it can't convert to the M1 in my system now would have been nice to explain to the doctor at the time.
I took tramadol for more than ten years. I truly miss taking tramadol, I had such a feeling of happiness and well-being and my depression just went away. Now I take drugs for depression and I am suffering so badly. I am tired night and day and have no motivation for anything. I haven't been the same person for years now.

I have chronic pain but I can't get any help. If you ask for tremadoll they act like your a dope head. If i wanted dope I could get that on,the streets. Or go get a bottle of whisky. But thses doctors today don't care about you like they used too,,
Let me just share a nightmare of a story I had with Tramadol - my orthopedic surgeon prescribed Tramadol in the midst of a very bad injury requiring extremely painful rehabilitation. I didn't want to be on traditional narcotics, so this was her alternative.It worked ok for a couple weeks at which point I just decided to stop taking them. That was an incredibly ill-advised decision and one my doctor should have warned me about! I became extremely depressed very rapidly. I walked downstairs into my living room one morning soon after stopping the Tramadol and just started bawling, for no justifiable reason. It was frightening. Had I known, I would have tapered off the Tramadol, which is something my doctor should have warned me about.
I was on Tramadol fir a short period of time. I had a reaction to the medication that caused rectal bleeding. My doctor did not think it came from that but everytime I started taking it, I bleed. When I stopped, the bleeding stopped. I performed this experiment several times with the same outcome. I found a study published on line that supported my theory.
Dr Furlan. Thank you for your informative videos. I have been suffering from regular chronic back pain since the mid nineties and intermittently before that since mid seventies. To add insult to injury, I now have some kind of Hot Foot Syndrome and Tramadol SR 100mg twice daily has been the best solution for me and results in less heat and swelling in my feet and much better sleep. Nothing like sleep deprivation to ruin ones day! 😏 I’m 70yo now and still working on my hobbies and don’t intend to stop anytime soon. 😁

Well I have fibromyalgia for last 10 years, and tramadol helps a lot!!!! I'm not taking more than 50 mg a day as needed, all prescribe meds for fibromyalgia didn't help me at all.
I take tramadol 100mg twice a day. If I don’t take it my back pain would be really bad. I have several bulging discs and stenosis of my spine. I’m only 46 years old and I can’t imagine myself walking with a cane or anything else to be okay for daily life tasks. I take breaks from it every three months. Then I start again after 3 months again and take a month off. It would be so hard to lead a normal life. I’ve tried spinal injections and other ways to take pain away. Nothing works like tramadol.
Im with you , but interstingly Tramadol works great for my fibromyalgia, but not much effect if any, with episodic sore back from lifting etc. Same for tension headaches ,no effect. So I guess its good for somethings and other medications I find are better for other pain situations. Dont know wny. So glad Tramadol works for your back. I would suggest never give up on seeking other modalities as you say you have tried. Keep seeking . What about cbd with Thc ? Especially in evening or before bedtime ? I found it was moderately sedating so good choice at bedtime. I found withTramadol, at normal dose , no euphoria , no sedation, just pain relief with energy and increase in focus and concentration. With cbd with thc at moderate dose , no euphoria, just moderately sedating. Stanford university has treated depression with electrmagnetic device. Just published the reults of their trial. They will test for chronic pain Im sure since like depression it all comes from the brain . I believe one day chronic pain will not be treated with pills . I was prescribed Tramadol but after reading the side effects and what it can do to you and leave you with permanent disabilities I threw it in the garbage! -Even though I was in excruciating pain... in America you have to practically beg for any kind of pain pill, all I wanted was a couple oxy to get the pain to stop and they won't even prescribe that they want to give you an antidepressant instead how does that help with pain?🤷♀️
Did not help with pain. But sure did make me high as a kite! Went through horrible withdrawals from it. ONLY took 3 months... It was terrible and horrible...
Very valuable information for me. I think my doctor just MIGHT be a little ignorant. My daily dosis of medicine consists of Paracetamol, Tramadol, Gabapentin - oxycontin x 2, and for the night a Zopiclone. Aren't prolapsed discs just the King of pain ? Back in 1981 i crushed 2 discs in my lower back by lifting a safe ( one we had sold ). The splinters cut my nervous systen to a weird puzzle, which now gives me neuropathic pains. Then in 2000 - OHhhhhhhh Joy ! - a disc in my neck was worn out, and the pressure on the nerves took most of my left triceps, and the dexterity of my left hand is now somehow handicapped, which i don't enjoy, as i'm a guitarplayer. The meds i get helps to some extent. The only silver lining is, that I'm Danish. Our healthsystem is "free", that is, it's financed through our taxes

Have been on Tramadol almost 3 decades off and on starting before it was deemed opiod or even a scheduled drug( I use it for Fibromyalgia) Unlike back then,Now some drs. are paranoid to prescribe it since it is now a schedule 4 drug like valium etc. Not schedule 2 like opiods oxycodone , morphine, codeine...all much more potent thanTramadol. But I found it works very well for fibromyalgia, better than codeine etc. Without the side effects. But you cannot have alcohol with it on board especially while driving because alcohol intensives the effect of Tramadol. Trust me. I believe this is how it started to be abused a few years ago and get scheduled and became looked on as an opiod, a drug with some abuse potential though limited thus only schedule 2. But for fibromyalgia it is a life changer.
Thanks to drug addicts they screwed us chronic pain stenosis fibromyalgia patients degenerative disc disease i’ve tried the other drugs for fibromyalgia and allergic to it muscle relaxants are not working coding I’m allergic to I have kidney issues and because of the tier that this drug is under I could no longer receive it and our tens unit 24/7 and now my conditions getting worse ..on disability living on a lower income and lost my job and can barely do anything .. before I was productive .and making money and not on other drugs I have severe narrowing in my spine and in pain daily to have this pain in inhumane and no way was I even close to those symptoms you claim people have .. not when your yo busy being productive person in Society. And my doctor had me bring my medication in and I was actually had say 60 and for 1 month use and I return I taken 20 that means I used it as I needed it on days i was in my worst pain so I could handle it so my dose was 37.5 with take up to two.. so it could get under control then one6/ 8 later .. so if I’m proving it I’m not a abusing it why in heck is the doctors and government say NO … and insurance??? They are not one in pain are they ???
Hi Goddessfly (is that your real name?). Drug addiction is a terrible disease. Don't be quick at judging them as this only makes the situation worse. Besides, many people who started getting opioids for pain ended up with "opioid use disorder", which is the new term for "addiction". So, this terrible disease of addiction can affect any person, anyone.

I’ve been on Tramadol for 20 years about 6 tablets a day and they work for me it takes about half hour to kick in but the relief is superb the only thing well 2 actually is that I’ve had two kidney stones and I now have the shakes in my legs when sat down does anyone out there have the same symptoms I would love to know please let know one last thing if I forget to take them I get a horrible feeling of shakes and nausea and that is terrible believe me it’s happened a few times like withdrawal symptoms terrible thanks for reading this and your help
Ya it works but being on it that long is an addiction. Come off it and u won’t feel like a zombie anymore. I just manage my day to day on my own.
I strongly disagree that Tramadol does not help with chronic pain vs. acetaminophen. For those with severe osteoarthritis will get much more relief from low doses of Tramadol while products like Advil and Tylenol are like taking nothing.
Agreed! Tylenol and Motrin do nothing. Gabapenten did nothing either!
I have severe arthritis in my shoulders, neck and SI joints. Chronic bad pain that is dablitating and so bad I can’t breathe.
If it wasn’t for tramadol, I prob would not be here today.
It’s the strongest stuff I can get prescribed befor they put me on morphine or some other vegaative drug.

And they all work well and don’t hinder my daily life too much.

I agree, I have used Ultram\ Tramadol (with Lyrica & Naproxen) for severe spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis and it has worked very well, plus, it helped with other issues. A few years ago my insurance changed coverage to only the Generic which at first worked ok, but something has happened to the formulation since the "war on drugs" began in the U.S., so it is no longer as efficient as it was. It still helps more than other medications for the pain, but it now has different random & uncomfortable side affects. Some commenters on other sites have said that the fillers have changed, others have said the Generic is produced in other Countries (India, China, etc) and the entire formula has been altered. Whatever the reason is, it's it is now substandard, just as most generics are.

Sad thing is after many years on any medication it is less affective because your body is accustomed to it.
After 10 years on a low dose of this it started to give me major diaherra issues. I didn't have to step down from it I went cold turkey to end the bowel issues.

I recently was struck with severe sciatic pain and could barely take a step. The PA at the Ortho walk-in clinic, after seeing clearly how much pain I was in, was getting ready to leave the room without prescribing anything at all. When I asked about something for pain, he gave me a terrified look and said "I can't do that, I'll get in trouble." Get in trouble??? That's how he judges pain management?? He finally prescribed Tramadol which I already knew would do nothing. (And it didn't.) I left crying in part from pain and partly from anger. While I get the concern over the addiction aspects, I only wanted enough pain killer to be able to minimally function...like get to the bathroom. Eventually I got heavy steroids and a real painkiller which I only took until I could handle the pain. I still have 1/3 of the bottle left. Drs. should be able to manage a patient's pain when it's extreme and not worry only about being sued. I'm glad Tramadol works for some people but I don't think it should be prescribed for extreme pain.
I was admitted to an E.R and an overnight stay in the hospital for kidney stones. I passed several on morphine. One stone was 7mm, which shocked the nurses that I passed it on my own. Diagnosed as a "producer" with both kidneys full of small stones. I was refused opioids and told by the urologist that I could mask a serious situation (like falling to the floor and projectile vomit from pain wouldn't clue me in?) and to use Tylenol and heating pad. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "You of all people know what this pain is like", still wouldn't prescribe even10 pills and shoved it off on my nurse practitioner. This is in NO way pain management. We have gone from doling opioid out like candy to NOTHING!
@@optimystic1282 Exactly!!! That is why I am so angry about it. It's absolutely absurd when someone is in extreme pain not to give them APPROPRIATE pain management even if temporary. For a PA to say to me "I'll get in trouble!" is ridiculous. Like you said, it went from candy to nobody gets any. I'm considering complaining to the management there. They left me to lay in a bed 24/7 barely able to get up to go pee. I'm sorry for what you went through...I totally get it.

I must be in the five percent without the enzime to make m-1 because my doctors have tried it a few times on my cronic pain and it was like taking a sugar pill. It did absolutely nothing to my pain. I never knew about the enzime thing until seeing this video! Thank you!!!
Was given Tramadol once after slipping and causing major back trauma.
The walls turned to jelly and the furniture started marching across the room, I thought I was walking up a steep hill, my husband tells me I was lying on the floor. Felt really, really sick as it wore off.

I take tramadol, and it works on my pain ,but now if I dont take it, I get cramps, rare sensation , very creeping sensation , and it force me to run to take it.
I had a horrible earache due to a botched ear lavage and was prescribed tramadol. This med did absolutely nothing for my pain. I just took 800 mg ibuprofen instead.
I have been using Tramadol successfully for over 10 years. I use from 50 to 200 mg a day depending on the pain level. I have also been able to stop using it when I don’t have pain. Basically, I don’t think about taking Tramadol unless pain pushes me there. I don’t know why it works so well for me, but it drastically improves the quality of my life! 💗
I’m with you Melody. I have neuropathy - pain in my feet. Tramadol works extremely well for me. I’ve been taking it for almost 7 years now and like one of the other gentleman said I take it when I need it and it works great for me. I do not have diabetes but I recently started taking Lyrica. Lyrica just barely works but if there’s not a lot of trauma to my feet while I’m working then it works good enough for me. So now I take less tramadol. But tramadol works as good now as it ever did when I started taking it.

I was out on it years ago for IBS pain. Real pain pills hurt my stomach. Tramadol 50mg cut in half 3 times a day allowed me to live a normal life. Now doctors won’t prescribe it so I live a life I wish I didn’t have to live. If I didn’t have kids that depend on my I wouldn’t be here. To live in pain all day every day and the doctor won’t give you when you know works, why see doctors, why live if you can’t live
In my addiction, I became addicted to tramadol. But it was my choice to choose to use drugs in the first place. I ended up taking up to 50 pills a day. But I believe for people who aren't prone to addiction, it could help out. I don't blame anyone but myself for my actions and have been clean for 7 years now. Thanks for the video

@pijnto OMG! You summed it up perfectly for me too! I fell and shattered my wrist a few years back. Ended up having to have a plate and 7 screws. I had to wait 10 days before I was scheduled with a surgeon. I was released from the ER with Tramadol...because of the opioid abuse addiction! After an excruciating night my primary physician saw me and prescribed hydrocodone. Which was enough, I didn't need or ask for oxycontin! As long as my wrist was stationary...😟
I'm a chronic pain patient. I've been on numerous opioids as well as tramadol in my past. In my opinion, tramadol is great for mild-to-moderate pain. It doesn't cover severe pain at all. Remember all medications have various effects depending on the person.

Did wonders for my back pain but I exercised a lot balancing the adrenaline and yoga like stretches to calm my metabolism keeping everything in a good balance, 100mg a day 50mg in the morning then another around dinner time, it did increase sometimes depending on extra exercise I required or extra hours at work or labour intensity needed, 100mg well below the suggested dosage a day and very easy and safe to work with, sometimes I would just combine regular painkillers in conjunction with the trammadol instead of increasing the regular 200mg but rarely needed too, hope this was helpful.

I'm on Tramadol 150 mg 12 hour time release twice a day always with Panodil (Tylenol), 3 times a day. I have no withdrawal when I run out, except the pain that it removes, and loose bowels as opioids cause constipation until your body adjusts. I've been on it for 15 years and it allows me to walk and maintain regular exercise for cardio and proper spinal posture for my cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis. (bone spurs). 90% of men age 65 have spondylosis which can remain benign unless a traumatic impact causes them to impact your spinal chord permanently like a detached hinge from an overhead bin on an airplane inflight that turns the bags stowed within into missiles or 40 pounds smack in your face from a sling shot.
Oh my , I’ve been taking Tramadol -50mg , 2 per day ! This has kept the edge off of my arthritic pain for a long time! I’m 76 years old and I know that this works! I beg to differ with your study! This is prescribed by my doctor!

100mg of tramadol per day is so very low! You are very lucky that this keeps the edge off your arthritic pain! I know people who take 2x50mg tablets of tramadol with 2x500mg of paracetamol four times a day (maximum dose) with minimal effect on their pain relief. 🤔😘

Tramadol might be fine for acute pain or mild chronic pain. I have severe chronic pain and realized several years ago, that Tylenol did as much for me, so I stopped taking it. It may be classified as an Opioid, but also seen as the bottom rung on the pain med ladder. All of we legitimate pain med users have been hurt by the addicts. We legits should be coming together as a faction, so our concerns are heard by the Dr.'s, the politicians, and the general public. Thank you.
Absolutely. Sometimes I think a doctor is suspicious of me just wanting to get opiates. I've been dealing with acute pain since 2006. I had one doctor actually accuse me of just wanting opiates before I even took an MRI. At the time I had 9 herniated disks in my lower back, neck, and a straight spine that causes extreme pain. He said I should take 4800 milligrams of Ibuprofen daily. I have stopped taking pain meds, years ago, because of this and the side effects that I don't like. Problem is that even with the side effects my life was much better...So now I lay in bed for 22 hours a day to keep my pain at a minimum. I won't even bother to ask a doctor for help anymore because I feel like I'm going to be judged to be an addict or abuser.

I was an ER RN for 9 years, in the days when everyone who had pain from an ingrown toenail to a sprained ankle got Dilaudid and percocets. I agree that the drug addicts have ruined it for all the legitimate people, but so have the Drs that gave the narcs out like candy. Last year I was thrown from a horse and was in excruciating pain. When I was at the ER, I knew better than to even mention pain meds, because I didn’t want to be seen as a seeker. And I’m an RN! They did give me Tramadol, which made me feel fortunate, as I wasn’t expecting anything. Most people get nothing more than ibuprofen. Bottom line, in this day and age, you better start biting down on a wooden spoon….
I have chronic low back pain and Tylenol does absolutely nothing for my pain. I used to take ibuprofen which helped until I ended up in the ER with a painful case of gastritis. I use Tramadol 100 mg PRN snd dm fortunate that I have zero addictive issues with it.
I have MS. I've been in constant pain for about 12 years. Prior to MS, I did not know there was more than one type of pain. In addition to nerve pain, there are a lot of other pains that I deal with. Tramadol works great for me; Norco takes the edge off, but tramadol is actually more effective. All of the various drugs I've been prescribed, that were not Opioids, did nothing.
At this point I could not live with the pain, so I am very thankful for having a doctor who is still willing to prescribe.
I don't know where you are but i got into a pain management and they will prescribe all types of pain meds
I have MS as well. Gabapentin and Tramadol have worked well for me. It lessons my pain to a manageable level. I prefer to use minimal pain relief so that I can detect when there is an increase in pain. Overmedicating pain relief can make it difficult to determine when there is a change in a chronic condition.
I've been searching for a doctor who understands that this was okay for me to take but I had to plead with him to help me with this awful pain that's been wracking my body for twenty years; I really have to advocate for myself because I live alone and I don't have any help with daily chores
It wasn’t always an opioid until it was abused. I was on it before it was an opioid. The side effect of serotonin actually benefits me. As no depression medication works for me. So this side effect is a huge benefit for me. It helps pain but it doesn’t effect me like other pain meds where you feel loopy and out of it. But I am on a low dose. In higher doses one might find tiredness. Mentally it helps my depression and pain. I may have lucked out

Tramadol worked great for me while I was in hospice. Now a prescription requires me to be reevaluated every 30 days by my doctor. Something that is difficult and expensive for me. Now I'm using a vaporizer micro dosing medical marijuana. It helps me manage the pain and depression. But only the opioids stopped my pain from nerve damage.

Similar here. I have used tramadol successfully for 12 years for pain and low mood/depression as well as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). I have never experienced craving for it as I do for coffee and used to with alcohol at times. I can stop immediately without issue. The effective dose for me has remained stable at about 200-300 mg daily for 12 years. I get so much more done while using it. I have not discovered any side effects (except perhaps some mild dizziness under some circumstances). There is no constipation.

I feel the same way! Why can’t they give you the benefit of the doubt. I have never taken Tramadol (in fact I just learned about it now), but I take Tylenol with codein and understand the hassles pharmacists etc. can give you even though I only take 2 a day as prescribed for chronic migraines. I once had to go to a different dr. to get my prescriptions b/c my own was away on holiday, and he told me “I would never give you this if you were my patient!” You’d think I was asking for heroin!! In fact it’s all those heroin addicts out there who they should really be going after! All the heroin in Vancouver is laced with Fentanyl and the addicts are dropping (dying) like flies! Clamp down on China who exports that crap to other countries b/c it is legal in their country to manufacture it!
I agree with pijnto’s comment. Tramadol did nothing for my pain. I found when I was working as a nurse there were many patients that it didn’t work for yet drs refused to believe that.

Doesn't take long to get addicted to tramadol, and the withdrawal is hell if you don't taper down gradually.

It really varies person to person. I use Tramadol 100 mg for chronic back pain on a PRN basis only. Sometimes I may take 1-2 a day on bad days but then I often go a week or longer with none. I have zero addictive issues to it.
Tramadol works exceptional for me... both for pain relief and feeling good.

I heartily recommend that you switch to another opiate . Tramadol has a very prolonged withdrawal period. Please be aware of this.

Wow. This is all makes my experience so much clearer. I had spine surgery and my doctor prescribed Tramadol to avoid giving me heavy pain meds for long term use. I kept trying to tell the doctor it was a completely different type of pain relief. This was a few years ago when they didn't believe you could become dependent. It relieved my pain but also...I became almost manic. I can take or leave pain meds. They make me tired and I can't function. Tramadol was a different. It felt great and I was functioning well... but it became necessary to take the Tramadol to feel great and function. I was terrified. It was tough to stop. Like going off a long term antidepressant symptoms. Beware!

In other words, beware of psych meds. You CANNOT get off of them, nor should you. Tramadol is very friendly and has no adverse side-effects when taken properly (not up-dosing). If you taper off Tramadol, there is only about a week recovery time (very mild withdrawal). If you became manic on tramadol, you probably updosed to an unsafe level. My provider also prescribed Gabapentin, which I taper onto as I taper off the Tramadol. This method eliminates withdrawal. Getting off Gabapentin, I found, has almost no withdrawal at all. I avoid taking Tramadol at long intervals. But pain and lack of function becomes intolerable, so I return to the 50 to 100MG a day for a couple weeks, then take a break. It sure beats any alternative.

Yes, the effect Tram has on Seritonin makes the WD different and more difficult than real (natural) Opiates. WD is hard with either type of meds, but Tram has a whole different dimension of WD symptoms.
Tramadol is different from other opioids due to the fact it does NOTHING. It is a waste of money. It is a waste of time. And all the while you still hurt. And, what, the doctor will have you on it for two weeks before he tries something different? And your pain is exasperated by all your frustration at having been sold basically a placebo. Maybe Tramadol works for some people. Good. I hope it has done something for someone. It did nothing for me or anybody else I know who got it. After you experience the frustration, the next time a doctor hands you a script for some you will be like me: You will say, "Dammit All! Its Tramadol."

Yeah, ibuprofen works better than Tramadol on pain. Ruptured a disc in my neck. Took Tramadol for one day and went right back to the doctor for a real pain medication. My doctor joked that he knew it didn't work but they have to try it first before they give you "the good stuff"
My niece took a fatal overdose trying desperately to get relief.
Well, I'm Scottish and have been taking Tramadol for around 8 years for arthritis in my spine, hip joints and knees. I'm also prescribed gabapentin along with the Tramadol. I have never had any side effect, and the pain relief (for arthritis) is amazing compared to no pain relief at all. I cannot take NSAIDs as they attack my stomach. Nothing else I was given really worked and after 2 years of other combinations of other painkillers, I was prescribed my current medication. Tramadol, up to 8 per day. Gabapentin, 3 per day. Ibuprofen, up to six a day. Arthritis pain is agony and very debilitating. With these meds, I can actually have a life!
My partner had terrible arthritis for 5 years. She took Tramadol, Gabapentin and Paracetemol every day. She now takes no meds, and has no pain after adopting a carnivore diet as advocated by Mikhaila Peterson. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. No pain for 3 years now. Her GP is baffled.
My friend I've known since middle school was in a terrible motorcycle accident and he cut his leg off on a guard rail in the impact when his bike hit it. He went over the rail and landed at the edge of a swamp. The last 5 years have been a challenging time, he was always the "mind over matter" type who could be found doing stunts because he was in such great control of his body and fitness. Well, life changed when we were staring down age 30. He had a lot of nasty painful infections that all the infectious disease specialists from within a 200 mile radius couldn't identify or fully defeat. They sent all of his samples to the U.S. CDC to try to get advice, because my dear friend's open wound was a swamp's Petri dish & it's highly unusual for a person to survive what he specifically did. The bacteria that rots whatever dies there was trying to eat him alive, long-term...
So they offered all the pain pills there are, the oxys and Roxys, morphine, dilaudid, and none of them helped- so they offered more! This guy hated drugs, but he wanted those to help, and they didn't. They only made him feel ways he doesn't like feeling. People harassed him over wanting to get their hands on his pills too, which was insulting, annoying and alarming bc he knew sooner or later someone would try to break in while he was away at an appt. You know what helped him in the end? High doses of gabapentin and lower doses of tramadol. These medications are abusable, for sure, but they're not debilitating and don't give a buzz when taken as directed. They work better for this terrible injury than any of the heavy stuff ever did, & once the junkies around town found out he switched to these, they all let him be. It was perfect, cuz he was more than ready to get back to living life. Gabapentin & tramadol meant he could get a new job, take his boat out to fish & travel the shore communities, and his riding friends worked together to build him a custom bike with a hand brake that he was super happy to take out on the road. That combination gave him his life back, and that says a lot to me as a person who was with him thru everything leading up to the ability to enjoy things that can't be done from a chair.

Tramadol worked great for me. But at least for myself it had a huge stimulant effect. Felt like I'd had about 5 or 6 cups of coffee. But great for the pain =)

Me too, I can’t take it after 2pm, but if pain is massive at bedtime, I take 1/4 of caplet. It’ s great when I first wake up, it’s useless when I got the flu so I go cold turkey since I feel lousy already. I been pretty consistent about my dose, I’ll probably b on it the rest of my life-spinal stenosis and compressed discs-but I will not go over prescribed dose. If I start feeling like my body needs more, I cut back. It’s actually helped with my depression, unexpected benefit. Whew, I was wondering if I was imaging this but to find ur comment is a relief.
I have been taking a Tramadol 50 mg. after breakfast and another after dinner since 2004. I am 67. Tramadol is better than narcotics. I am satisfied.
I just had a partial nefrectomy a month ago and was given Tramadol after surgery while still in hospital. It did absolutely nothing for the pain. After complaining repeatedly they gave me a pain pump with dilaudid every 10 minutes which worked really well and kept the pain at a tolerable level so I could sleep. It may work for certain types of pain ... just not after major surgery. ✌❤
As you noted, it is not for the immediate post op surgery period. I worked Post Anesthesia and Pain Clinic for my career. If you were my patient, and you did not have any contraindications, and assuming it was the surgeon that ordered it, I would go straight over his head to the anesthesiologist and get you something effective. Getting appropriate pain relief after you wake is key to reducing the trauma and anxiety and generally most people will have a better post op period and get out of bed sooner and do much better in general. Using it for chronic pain is a completely different scenario. Sorry you had to go through that. It was my number one pet peeve, not given effective and appropriate medication in the PACU.

Im 42 and have had chronic pain since college. Tramadol is the only thing that has helped fibromyalgia for me. My doctor said that in some people it makes fibro worse. She was glad we found something to help me. It's the only thing that gets me up and moving most days. Lifts my mood too. I take 1 to 2 everyday, some days I dont take any. I cant take it late at night, because I will have trouble sleeping. Cool video.

Causes the worst insomnia. Tramadol is a lousy drug for pain in general.
Tramadol allowed me to function normally and live a productive life for over 20 years. The VA prescribed it for chronic pain that they could not identify. When Tramadol could not tame an increasing pain cycle that was out of control I was prescribed Hydrocodone as needed; usually 1 or 2 times a month.
Two months ago, the VA told me that this combination could now be fatal and would not allow me to continue. The VA now has me on Hydrocodone alone. It has not given my life back.
I was recently told that the VA could do nothing else for my current pain.
I feel that I no longer have a life of value.
Hang in there. Things can always change, keep bringing this to your drs to find a way get on a regimen you can tolerate.
Prayers for you. I deal with chronic pain that never ends. People who are not in some pain daily have no tolerance of people who are. It's a cruel cycle that never seems to end.
Give tramadol another try, i find that acetaminophen will boost the pain relief affect. Hydrocodone is causing those feeling of uselessness. I use the VA also, if your doctor isn’t helping, you can switch to another one… it’s your right as a veteran. Don’t ever give up!
Raymond, I feel ya brother. I use the VA as well. Ask your physician to put in an order for community care to be seen in the real world. It might take awhile to figure how to do it. Go to a doc on the outside that is directly related to what is causing the pain. Once you are seen by them share your story. Oh, when you ask for the order to be put in for community care don't say it is for Tramadol or pain related treatment. Don't even talk about pain medications.
Right now the VA is making all it's doctors give write ups on all patients using pain meds. Then after each write up they have to schedule drug tests and other protocols. I tell you this because it is far easier for an unethical VA doctor to deny you tramadol so they don't have to work as hard.
Learn the game brother and stay a step ahead of them.
It's better than chronic pain and the suicide option.

I've been on Tramadol 50mg for 20+ yrs for arthritits in my upper back! I had to increase it over the yrs but then, I weened myself from 8 pills a day to 3! [Happy about tht!] I try to take less as possible but my pain gets worse the older I get! I'll be 70 yrs old in March but It allows me to get thr' each day [some what] normally! I've just "learned" to deal w/ pain & I'm thankful I'm doing as well as I am! IT could be worse 😥

Good for you. I quit cold turkey and withdrawals sucked bad. I took 4 a day for 15 years. Dr said i would not get addicted but i did..it screwed my brain up, i dont injoy things i use to at 65.
Tram helped my long time depression to. On antidepressants now for 7 years and does not help.
Taking tram i could fall asleep any time in 5 min which was scary. One reason why i stopped it..good for you going off slow. Keep it up..i am retired so i figure if i hurt i dont have to do anything. Your condition sounds nearly in exact to what I am dealing with since late 1980s in my twenties then, now I am in my early 60s, and the pains from Spinal Stenosis and now arthritis too, I can function minimally. Walking is almost impossible! Few steps then must stop because my legs would “lockup.”
I’ve had a surgery for the Sciatica : Laminectomy, Spinal fusion, and the grafting of the spine too. It’s been twenty plus years now, and the shooting pain from the Sciatica is gone but the Stenosis of the Spine? Gotten worse!
Anyway, I’d thought that the Tramidol may help me in non addictive way but nope! It acts in the same way as the Oxycodone aka OxyContin. I have cut the doses down from where I was, 240mcg down to 60mcg at present! I had to actually, the doctors were under watch by the government agencies so they feared retribution!
It’s a long story to get into it here. I just wanted to share my experiences and the frustrations with someone who’d understand.

Tramadol worked for me but I had to come off it due to a certain antidepressant. I was taken off it cold turkey which to me is criminal. The withdrawal symptom were hellish for days and days. Please use it VERY carefully because addiction to this drug is very real. Thank you for the upload Dr.

I use tramadol on a regular basis , 100-150 mg a day . It helps with my lower back pain and gives me a general sense of well being .
I have experience at times very brief confusion or on rare occasions have had brain fog , but all in all it seems to assist . Thanks for the information .

Actually an Australian study less than 12 months old showed paracetamol did not help with spinal arthritic pain. It was a robust study, tramadol like many other drugs suits some people and not others. Tramadol helps me to actually move and I’ve chosen to use paracetamol and tramadol combined. By the way anti inflammatory drugs long term does have a eroding effect on the stomach which leads to huge issues including germ, especially people suffering from fibromyalgia. There’s a risk in everything we take and responsible use is the key, it’s not for everyone.

Thanks for this very informative video! My wife took tramadol after her back surgery years ago, and it was absolutely the worst time of our marriage. She was withdrawn and seemed not to care about anyone or anything. She got into a couple of car accidents, with our children in tow. She showed behaviors that I would never share publicly. I didn't know that the tramadol itself could be a problem, but also that her pain specialist gave her tramadol at the same time that our general doctor had her on 2 antidepressants was also a big problem. Everyone should see this video before taking tramadol!

It’s a very good video indeed. I was prescribed this medicine after two different knee replacements. It was pretty close to useless. Fortunately, I never had any side effects from it. I didn’t receive a proper explanation of the possible reactions from it. Reactions I could easily have had due to other medications I was on. I am fortunate to that I never had any inclination to take it when not in pain or to take more than needed.
It is interesting to see the variety of experiences people have had with this medicine. People have commented that it was about as useful as a piece of candy. I agree. Except my thought was that a good ice cream would be better at pain reduction and actually be more addictive.

Most likely dosages were to much .along with anti depressants . They actually can and often do. Work in the reverse. Turning you into just what it should cure. SSRIs. Can cause reverse symptoms. Shock . Mania . Or zombie effect. I don’t like them. I stay on Tramadol regardless . Because . I had that condition BEfORE Tramadol . mania pts. Etc. it’s the only way I can have a life. And be balanced. Trying different SSRI’S nearly killed me.. twice!! With my breath being cut off. Amitriptyline. Put me in the hospital . On first dose. It was a long unhappy time. I’m glad I found Tramadol . But I was< sick. Not a abuser. Experimenting. I’m sorry they did that. If they did. Because it gave the medicine a bad rap. You need to be monitored by a Docter.

I have had all these, for post spinal operation, arthritis in spine etc., also stenosis in three places. I have stopped all of them and now rely on CBD oil. My mind is clearer, and it annoys me that orthodox doctors do not suggest this to patients. I suspect the Pharmaceutical companies are the reason.

Like most drugs, it affects individuals differently. For me, Tramadol has been very effective. I’ve only used it when necessary, but if/when I have stopped using it after any extended period of time, I get leg leg-jitters/sleepless leg syndrome when I’m trying to sleep. I have to power through this for a week or so until they are gone.

I had serotonin syndrome when taking Tramadol and other meds and had to go to the emergency room for treatment. I went through a withdrawal that was miserable. The doctor who prescribed it insisted it was not an opioid!

You need to go to a chiropractor and get spinal decompression , I was scheduled for back surgery for 3 herniated discs and went to chiropractor the week before and am been pain free for 11 years , no surgery
@@heknows5418 everyone is different. Herniated discs should never be manually manipulated. The best chiropractors will agree. Decompression through stretching on an inversion table is best. It takes time, mindful posture and daily exercise regardless of your level of movement.

Blessings on you, i was one of the first to use tramadol in this country, they never told us the addictive qualities or the horrible withdrawal, other dr's laughed when you wanted to get off the stuff, they told me to just "get off then" nobody believed this drug had withdrawals close to heroine in my opinion. they gave me 6 trams a day, 2, morning ,noon .night... and cut me off after two years on it, please tell them to be careful with this medication i almost died going through it.

The APAP (Tylenol) in Tramadol is more likely to hurt you than the opioid characteristic. Assuming the patient is not abusing Tramadol

Did not work as a pain killer for me but I had some nasty side effects including hallucinations - seeing snakes in my bed, and talking to people who weren’t there. Very scary stuff…

Tramadol has been a godsend for my urinary nerve pain when nothing else worked. And luckily it’s not one of the really strong painkillers.

everyone is effected differently. this is a miracle drug for me. 3 shoulder repairs and nothing both relived pain, and didnt turned me into a zombie...except tramadol. I sleep soundly every night, wake up alert and refreshed, and dont feel like jumping off a bridge.
I have been on Tramadol or Marol as it is known here,,I was put on it in 2008 after an industrial accident ..the first side effect I noticed was God awful constipation,,after taking the drug for 6 months I noticed I could no longer get an erection and my brain had no sexual feelings or thoughts ,It took me quite some time to discover this,Only when my 30 year marriage broke down..I am still on it for severe back pain {sciatica}..I now call this pill the Castrater..No mention about these side effects are mentioned in this Video,,I dont recommend anyone to take this drug.
I have been taking it for years for spinal nerve damage from transverse mylitis. I have leg,feet,and back pain. It works well for me. I have never had any side effects.

Interesting to read about your TM…I also had TM about 18 years ago at age 48…I have all your symptoms and use tramadol but not daily. I use Panadol Oesteo and Celecoxib combo on most days and Tramadol on bad days…my walking is getting worse due to hip pain and scoliosis but I try and gym exercise about five times a week to keep moving. It’s a very disease and I’ve not met anyone ever, who’s had it. I wish you well.

This drug was worse for me than the pain. Could not keep liquids, food, meds. down…vomited for hours. Took 36 hours to get out of my system. I now use CBD balm, works great….

I have used Tramadol daily for many years for fibromyalgia/chronic pain. 50mg 2-3 times a day. It has been an absolute lifesaver after trying many many other options.

I was prescribed Tramadol for pain while awaiting my hip replacement. It was the worst experience I've had with any pain medication. I continually felt as if I was on the edge of death, was afraid to sleep because I felt I wouldn't wake up. But I was also literally nodding off if I sat up. It didn't do much for the pain. If anything, the terrible side effects distracted me from how much my hip hurt.
Post-op pain med was Percocet for a few weeks and the difference was amazing. Pain relief, I could function semi-normally without nodding off, I slept well without believing I was going to die in my sleep and recovered ahead of schedule.

Ive taken tramadol for fibro for years, without it my pain would consume me and my will to live, being in that much agonizing pain.
Tramadol was over for me after I swallowed just one. What an experience. For my back pain, I will take a mild muscle relaxer and tylenol or aspirin. In my case if the muscle has gone into a spasm, it’s the muscle relaxer that ends it in a good rest. (Very few meds ingested, and problem cared for). Brain altering pain killers to me, just do not make sense. I watched a great hair stylist and business owner turn into a mental midget, on opioids.

Avoid it for long-term usage!!!! Really! It made me almost Zombie with huge anxiety. I lost 2 years of my life. When I stopped it after a month I came back to myself.
About 15 years ago I was having a lot of low back pain knee pain etc and I also have migraines (every migraine medication that I have tried causes severe hallucinations. I will never try them again). I had been going to the same doctor for about 2 years after I moved to another state and we talked about what medications I was taking and so forth. After she found out how much Advil I was taking on a regular basis she told me to stop taking it immediately and prescribed tramadol instead. At that time, tramadol was not listed as a class a drug nor an opioid. At first, I got a bit of a light head when I took it, but after a few months of taking it daily to deal with the migraines and just the general pain of riding horses for 30 years, being in several pretty severe car accidents, and grooming dogs for about the same amount of time, it helped if I took it with an Advil. I'm still of the belief that Advil is the best painkiller of all times. Real strong opioids don't do anything for me other than make me itch. The only time I had a super strong dose of morphine is when I had a hysterectomy. I've been taking tramadol for the past 15 years about 150 mg a day and it helps perfectly and doesn't cause me any issues. The problem is when it was shifted into the class a drug category. My problem is that those of us who have been taking it normally and safely for years and years are now lumped in with drug addicts. It's not right and now we have to jump through hoops to get a drug that we used to get a Year's worth of prescriptions for. Your doctor knows how you are using your prescriptions. Those of us who are responsible and take only as needed should not have to go through what they are currently forcing us to go through to manage what could be very difficult pain issues with a minor low totem pole so-called opioid drug. I am still grooming dogs at 49 years old and I would not be able to do it without tramadol. I could go back to taking the same amount of Advil I was taking before, but it would eat a hole in my stomach and could possibly cause kidney failure. Taking a low dose of tramadol along with a low dose of Advil or an extra strength Excedrin if I have a migraine manages my pain perfectly. So now I can take care of my farm and work my 60 to 70 hour week job without much trouble. But because of what is going on with opioids these days, I have to spend thousands of dollars going to a pain management clinic that I don't need in order to take a $4 drug that I'm never going to overdose on or that's really never going to cause me any problems. They have got to figure out a way of helping those who have a proclivity to taking too much medication and leaving those of us alone who have never had an issue with drugs and just want to work out regular lives.
Very well said i also have chronic pain, i got into a pain management 6 yrs ago and am now on oxycodone it is 5mg 4 times a day. I pet sit and would not be able to do this or anything else without pain meds i am looking for a quality of life. not quantity . I just read a good article on pain meds and they realized that they have screwed up with pain meds, that they are NECCESARILY for alit of people who ARE NOT ADDICTS. I feel the same about Tramadol. I’ve been taking it every 3-4 hours around the clock, literally 24/7, daily for over 9 years now due to chronic pain and severe daily migraines caused by a critical progressive and degenerative disease that affects nearly all of my organs and body systems to severe degrees, and for the last several years has left me primarily bed-bound. Basically, my body is progressively failing/shutting down on itself on a cellular level, and with that comes a lot of painful symptoms. Tramadol has truly been a Godsend. Part of my disease results in major metabolic issues, and for regular strong pain medications, my body is not able to properly metabolize them, which results in them having zero effect. Even IV Fentanyl in high doses, which is as potent as you can get when it comes to opiates, gives the same result as if you just did an IV saline flush for severe pain. Tramadol, for whatever reason, is something my body is able to metabolize better than any of the other opiates, and while my metabolic issues result in it being a bit less effective compared to when other people take it, most of the time at the very least it takes the edge off of my pain, and when you’re in severe pain, that feels like a miracle. I don’t know how I would live without it, and I don’t say that in an addictive sense, but because of how much quality it adds back to my life. Even well over 9 straight years of taking it 24/7 at maximum doses, I have ZERO addiction to it, and would be perfectly fine to stop taking it at any moment addictively speaking (though that would be torture in the aspect of pain). It’s not something I crave, it’s not something I have ever desired to abuse in any way, and I don’t ever foresee that changing. When I first started taking it, like you, it’s class had not changed yet. Getting a prescription filled was no hassle or stress at all, as it should be! Given that I take so much of it, my doctor would write scripts for massive quantities, and there were no worries about having it on hand and getting it on time. Then the class changed, and it became a nightmare! I’m forced through my insurance to get 90 day supplies through a mail order pharmacy for medications used on a regular basis, and dealing with both the insurance and the pharmacy is a full time job! Fortunately my doctor is wonderful and does everything she can, but she can only do so much. My orders/scripts are constantly getting canceled, constantly denied, there are constant requests for my doctor to repeatedly send in medical necessity letters and permissions, they will withhold pills, won’t send the amount prescribed, and countless other constant headaches! I can (somewhat) understand treating other opiates that way, but Tramadol is in NO way a drug that should be treated like the others. It’s not even remotely comparable. They aren’t saving/helping anyone by doing what they did, they are just hurting the people who genuinely need it for pain and have zero addiction to it. IF used as directed/prescribed, addiction to Tramadol is exceedingly RARE. Those of us who use it responsibly and as it is prescribed to us should NOT be the ones having to pay the price of those who choose to abuse it. None of this red tape is at all necessary for a drug like Tramadol. In my opinion, over the counter drugs can do far more damage than Tramadol could ever be capable of doing, and its classification change was WAY too drastic of a measure and completely unnecessary. It’s not comparable to high tier opioids in any way, yet it’s now treated like it is. It helps so many people, and is such an amazing pain management option, so it’s sad that it’s now become so difficult for both patients and doctors to get a prescription filled. If a doctor prescribes something for THEIR patient who THEY have assessed, nobody else who is NOT that patient’s doctor should be able to dictate whether or not that prescription is worthy of being fulfilled correctly and in a timely manner, especially not insurance or pharmacies. It’s just turned into one big circus that never ends.

I am in no way as bad as you are and just the bit of chronic pain I have from living a fantastic and active life (other than the car accidents), affects everything I do. It absorbs you. I don't think people who don't have chronic pain can at all understand how awful it can be. Then when you find something that works without making you feel like you've been drugged it is a Godsend then the govt has to get its dirty fingers involved. I will put your on my prayer list. @@lovesallanimals9948 Well sadly, people seem to think addiction to pain killers is a moral issue or is somehow limited to people who have a "tendency" to become addicted. Just like alcohol, there is a fine line between being able to drink a lot and enjoy it, to becoming reliant and dependent on it. Its not a risk worth taking. Because it is very very difficult to come back from a mental and physical addiction. Most people can't easily. The worst thing about addiction is how it alters a persons thinking. They don't even know its happening. Other people can see it before the person can. Its not there fault at all. However they are the only people who can address it. People can be psychologically addicted to almost anything and the most obvious sign that they are addicted is when they argue black and blue, that they are addicted and yet other people are very concerned.

I take it for joint pain due to Crohn's Disease . As typical get a pain " killer " for pain without I think . Determining the exact cause of the pain and addressing that . As for damage from it I take Milk Thistle an herb known to protect and rejuvenate the liver . As for sleepiness due to its use I suggest the amino acid , Menatonin ? as a sleep aid . I have had Acupuncture for my pain , when I wanted / could afford it . Here in the USA there are " Community Acupuncture Clinics " . That offer it on a sliding fee / low cost basis that I have used . As for muscle and bone pain , it could be a deficiency in Vitamin D3 ! So , many alternative ways could and should address your pain .

Well look...it All Depends on how effective your liver is at converting it into the active ingredient. That's Highly variable.
I was an ER RN for 9 years. We called Tramadol “Dammitall”. 😂😂. Oh, and the patients hated Tramadol. I couldn’t tell you how many wadded up scripts I had thrown at me because the patient was mad that he/she wasn’t getting a stronger narcotic.
I believe it. It works amazingly well, though, when prescribed for pain connected to the diagnoses it is meant to treat, ie., fibromyalgia.

Tramadol is brutal to get off of. It’s not the opioid part it’s the antidepressant part. I was on Vicodin for years and just quit one day and had no issues. Tramadol gave me brain zaps when I tried to quit it. That shit is brutal. Like getting an electric shock. I had to wean off over 2 months.
Some don’t have an issue but if you do it’s horrible. The pain relief vs the side effects is not even close to being worth it.
I've been given tramadol multiple times over the years, but never got any relief from it. I told the doctor and they seemed to get annoyed with me about the fact that my pain didn't go away. Well, knowing that it can't convert to the M1 in my system now would have been nice to explain to the doctor at the time.

I took tramadol for more than ten years. I truly miss taking tramadol, I had such a feeling of happiness and well-being and my depression just went away. Now I take drugs for depression and I am suffering so badly. I am tired night and day and have no motivation for anything. I haven't been the same person for years now.

I have chronic pain but I can't get any help. If you ask for tremadoll they act like your a dope head. If i wanted dope I could get that on,the streets. Or go get a bottle of whisky. But thses doctors today don't care about you like they used too,,
Let me just share a nightmare of a story I had with Tramadol - my orthopedic surgeon prescribed Tramadol in the midst of a very bad injury requiring extremely painful rehabilitation. I didn't want to be on traditional narcotics, so this was her alternative.It worked ok for a couple weeks at which point I just decided to stop taking them. That was an incredibly ill-advised decision and one my doctor should have warned me about! I became extremely depressed very rapidly. I walked downstairs into my living room one morning soon after stopping the Tramadol and just started bawling, for no justifiable reason. It was frightening. Had I known, I would have tapered off the Tramadol, which is something my doctor should have warned me about.
It’s something you should have called your doctor before doing. Or, at least, googled it.
Tramadol has zero effect on me what-so-ever. I'm not on any other medication. Anyone know what's wrong with me?
I was on Tramadol fir a short period of time. I had a reaction to the medication that caused rectal bleeding. My doctor did not think it came from that but everytime I started taking it, I bleed. When I stopped, the bleeding stopped. I performed this experiment several times with the same outcome. I found a study published on line that supported my theory.
But I'll bet your doc still told you you were mistaken, lol. How many times I've run this scenario, lol. Sad
I was prescribed Tramadol for back pain. It did nothing for me except give me major nausea.

Dr Furlan. Thank you for your informative videos. I have been suffering from regular chronic back pain since the mid nineties and intermittently before that since mid seventies. To add insult to injury, I now have some kind of Hot Foot Syndrome and Tramadol SR 100mg twice daily has been the best solution for me and results in less heat and swelling in my feet and much better sleep. Nothing like sleep deprivation to ruin ones day! 😏 I’m 70yo now and still working on my hobbies and don’t intend to stop anytime soon. 😁

This explains why I think tramadol is trash. It does absolutely nothing for pain for me.
Well I have fibromyalgia for last 10 years, and tramadol helps a lot!!!! I'm not taking more than 50 mg a day as needed, all prescribe meds for fibromyalgia didn't help me at all.

I take it for my Fibromyalgia. This medicine has been a Godsend!! It helps manage my fibromyalgia so that I can work.
I take tramadol 100mg twice a day. If I don’t take it my back pain would be really bad. I have several bulging discs and stenosis of my spine. I’m only 46 years old and I can’t imagine myself walking with a cane or anything else to be okay for daily life tasks. I take breaks from it every three months. Then I start again after 3 months again and take a month off. It would be so hard to lead a normal life. I’ve tried spinal injections and other ways to take pain away. Nothing works like tramadol.
Im with you , but interstingly Tramadol works great for my fibromyalgia, but not much effect if any, with episodic sore back from lifting etc. Same for tension headaches ,no effect. So I guess its good for somethings and other medications I find are better for other pain situations. Dont know wny. So glad Tramadol works for your back. I would suggest never give up on seeking other modalities as you say you have tried. Keep seeking . What about cbd with Thc ? Especially in evening or before bedtime ? I found it was moderately sedating so good choice at bedtime. I found withTramadol, at normal dose , no euphoria , no sedation, just pain relief with energy and increase in focus and concentration. With cbd with thc at moderate dose , no euphoria, just moderately sedating. Stanford university has treated depression with electrmagnetic device. Just published the reults of their trial. They will test for chronic pain Im sure since like depression it all comes from the brain . I believe one day chronic pain will not be treated with pills . They will be last choice because other modalites will work better. Hope your back is feeling well soon. Sorry about length of my comments.

I was prescribed Tramadol but after reading the side effects and what it can do to you and leave you with permanent disabilities I threw it in the garbage! -Even though I was in excruciating pain... in America you have to practically beg for any kind of pain pill, all I wanted was a couple oxy to get the pain to stop and they won't even prescribe that they want to give you an antidepressant instead how does that help with pain?🤷♀️
Did not help with pain. But sure did make me high as a kite! Went through horrible withdrawals from it. ONLY took 3 months... It was terrible and horrible...

I am using tramadol 37 and 500 paracetamol for cluster migraine since 2013 daily one tablet. Still have no any side effect.
Very valuable information for me. I think my doctor just MIGHT be a little ignorant. My daily dosis of medicine consists of Paracetamol, Tramadol, Gabapentin - oxycontin x 2, and for the night a Zopiclone. Aren't prolapsed discs just the King of pain ?
Back in 1981 i crushed 2 discs in my lower back by lifting a safe ( one we had sold ). The splinters cut my nervous systen to a weird puzzle, which now gives me neuropathic pains.
Then in 2000 - OHhhhhhhh Joy ! - a disc in my neck was worn out, and the pressure on the nerves took most of my left triceps, and the dexterity of my left hand is now somehow handicapped, which i don't enjoy, as i'm a guitarplayer. The meds i get helps to some extent.
The only silver lining is, that I'm Danish. Our healthsystem is "free", that is, it's financed through our taxes

Was on sr tramadol 100mg during day and 50mg at night all it done was keep me awake didn't even touch the pain so I stopped taking it
Have been on Tramadol almost 3 decades off and on starting before it was deemed opiod or even a scheduled drug( I use it for Fibromyalgia) Unlike back then,Now some drs. are paranoid to prescribe it since it is now a schedule 4 drug like valium etc. Not schedule 2 like opiods oxycodone , morphine, codeine...all much more potent thanTramadol. But I found it works very well for fibromyalgia, better than codeine etc. Without the side effects. But you cannot have alcohol with it on board especially while driving because alcohol intensives the effect of Tramadol. Trust me. I believe this is how it started to be abused a few years ago and get scheduled and became looked on as an opiod, a drug with some abuse potential though limited thus only schedule 2. But for fibromyalgia it is a life changer.

Thanks to drug addicts they screwed us chronic pain stenosis fibromyalgia patients degenerative disc disease i’ve tried the other drugs for fibromyalgia and allergic to it muscle relaxants are not working coding I’m allergic to I have kidney issues and because of the tier that this drug is under I could no longer receive it and our tens unit 24/7 and now my conditions getting worse ..on disability living on a lower income and lost my job and can barely do anything .. before I was productive .and making money and not on other drugs I have severe narrowing in my spine and in pain daily to have this pain in inhumane and no way was I even close to those symptoms you claim people have .. not when your yo busy being productive person in Society. And my doctor had me bring my medication in and I was actually had say 60 and for 1 month use and I return I taken 20 that means I used it as I needed it on days i was in my worst pain so I could handle it so my dose was 37.5 with take up to two.. so it could get under control then one6/ 8 later .. so if I’m proving it I’m not a abusing it why in heck is the doctors and government say NO … and insurance??? They are not one in pain are they ???
Hi Goddessfly (is that your real name?). Drug addiction is a terrible disease. Don't be quick at judging them as this only makes the situation worse. Besides, many people who started getting opioids for pain ended up with "opioid use disorder", which is the new term for "addiction". So, this terrible disease of addiction can affect any person, anyone.
@@avalondreaming1433 Same here. It was never considered true opiod when first on it. Now that its scheduled, all hell broke lose. So different now. But have ok dr. Now who gets it. Glad to hear Tramadol works good for you. You must have a good Dr. Who trusts you.
I'm allergic to codeine and Tramadol. If I have codeine, I go into a coma. Tramadol makes me vomit non stop to the point that I beging vomiting blood.
