Crucial has 5600 Mbps SODIMM ram released and SK hynix has some 6400 Mbps ram about to hit the market. In testing (from another channel) I see that every 400 Mbps equates to about 3 fps additional performance. I recently updated from a Minusforum 5900HX to this 690M 1tb/32gb unit and also tested it to an e-GPU running an RTX 3060 8GB, which worked for a while but sadly no longer does. Seems a lot of people have problems with e-gpu's on Win11. Being a mini PC gamer / enthusiast I'm still happy and will just wait for faster ram as the PC lets me already play the games I like at a decent enough fps. Interestingly its a far more powerful unit than the older 5900HX, runs quieter and is only 1/3 of the physical size. You could happily pack and travel with this to use in hotel rooms connected to a TV in the room. Only been a few weeks, but I've been super happy with the 690M so far. Slow golf clap to Minusforum for what they do for the mini PC market.
@@JunSi3010B I think is not posible to use more than 4800mhz ddr5 because cpu limitations. You could search for ddr5 4800 sodimm hynix m-die or a-die and you will be able to push it to 6000 or 6600mhz with overclock. But is so hard to find that kind of ram modules.
@@noelalvarez141 I have now 2x 32GB Kingston FURY Impact SO-DIMM DDR5-5600 CL40-40-40 in the UM690 and prime95 runs stable. Are probably officially currently the fastest and with minimal CL. I haven't tried to overclock them yet. The 5600 MT/s you have to set manualy in the BIOS.
@@JunSi3010B I'm pretty sure Kingston with CL40 have hynix m-die chiplets. Try to push it to 6000mhz, and continue pushing step by step checking your memory temperatures and voltage. If you have an um690 or hx99g, you could change that frequency into bios.
Thanks for the review. Does it support Netflix 4k playback ? In other words, does it support Microsoft Playready ? Minisforum support says they don't know. Hopefully you can tell me.
Whats the difference between the MINISFORUM UM690 Mini PC and the MINISFORUM Venus Series UM690 Mini PC other than the price, I don't see anything and I am seriously looking to pick one up but if there is no real difference, I will choose the cheaper price tag. If anyone could answer that for me that would be awesome thanks!
If I used a 100w PD usb power converter on the um690 would it supply enough watts since it draws almost 90w at max? Im trying to convert the bulky 19v power adapter and use this with USB PD charger that supplies 100w in the car for a car pc setup.
Great video, thank you! 👍 When I saw the internal SSD with that heatsink and since I never owned a PC like this: If I bought the barebone version and installed an SSD myself, should I take one with a heatsink (as seen in the video) or just a normal one without?
The more I've been watching these videos of these mini gaming PCs I would really like one and get away from the big power consuming gaming towers and take advantage of something like this with an external GPU enclosure.
I ordered a barebones kit, but likely won't get it until mid/late-Jan. Now with the 74XX mobile chips announced, I'm wondering if this unit will be out dated by the time I get one. I also ordered an NAD9 - should be fun - but that won't arrive until mid/late Feb. Curious how the Win11 Pro will work out on the barebones. I wasn't expect it, but on my HX90, I simply installed Windows 11 Pro using a USB drive and it was already activated after the installation process. I'm hoping for the same results.
Can you please review the Ugoos X4Q Pro? I can only find russian reviews of the android TV box and don't want to buy it until I've heard your thoughts on it
What's the point of being able to hook it up to display 4k much more 8k with gpu like that? see all the games you tried it on are all on 1080p and they're barely making 60fps.
No idea why, maybe they are just being fazed out. I guess most of us are using type-c hubs now. As most new laptops and Macs no longer have SD Readers either. Would be very useful though.
Very interesting review... You have another subscriber!!! I would like to buy but I don't know what you would recommend between Beelink GTR and this UM690. I would like to know if an external e-GPU can be connected to both. Thks!
By yesterday date, Dec 16th 2022, i received my second new mini pc, S500+, that has Ryzen R9 5900HX CPU, barebone, i already ordered parts as 2 SSDs and RAM dual cards 64GB total to install, so until that will arrive i am thinking about installing a Linux version into one of small size SSDs i have, 265GB, using enclosure and connect to either fast USB port or trying Type C, now which Linux version do you recommend?
I have the HX90 system - which has the 5900HX too. Runs very will for Proxmox (Debian based) - although you need at least a kernel 5.15 distro for the 2.5g NIC to be seen. I struggled with that one since Proxmox 7.1 had an earlier kernel, but that is now fixed with v7.2+. It's a great little system but not for hard core PC gaming at all.
For portability. My laptop is not highed as the mini pc. I just want to carry the mini pc anyware i go like travel and the laptop would be my monitor and keyboard for that.

What is the speed of the ram.
