Man, I love these Mini PC's. While I could never see myself buying one, at least for now, since they don't fit my use case, I still find it highly entertaining to watch videos about them and learn about them. I find the engineering put into making these systems work mindblowing. Often in the custom PC space, we always feel like we have to overcompensate on stuff like cooling and power just for basic tasks and casual gaming but then we see stuff like this that sip only a fraction of the power while being the size of a lunchbox.

I get the feeling in the comments here (that feel very similar to my comments), we are getting really close to these mini pcs with integrated graphics becoming a mainstream pickup for many people, starting with this Gen finally and as we move forward. We have been close for a couple years. But this is right on the cusp of pickup for me even too. I am super excited to see these integrated graphics pcs in the next few years. They are gonna be running 4K, 60 constant on most games, if not all within a couple years. Mark my words.

The only thing I dislike about these minis forum boxes is that they're abandoned shortly after launch. I have the predecessor of this (the one that has the 5900hx) and minisforum never releases bios updates. Which doesnt seem like a big deal, but AMD actually includes performance improvements in their bios updates nowadays.

@@kayyyconnor897 Certain OEMs have a deal with Microsoft to update the bios of their prebuilts/laptops via windows update but thats definitely not the case here. An updated bios would also have to actually exist for windows to update minis forums motherboards, it's only a delivery method. I'm aware that it will work on the stock bios (which minis forum doesnt even provide on their support page). The issue is that a year or two down the line, whatever vulnerabilities or bugs may come and be fixed by AMD, your just SOL If they're major (the dozen or so sideload vulnerabilities in cpus fixed in bios updates in recent years come to mind)...A few years ago I would have agreed with you that bios updates aren't important, but AMDs Agesa updates can drastically change the way a processor behaves in certain workloads, usually for the better. I always used it connected to a 4k monitor, so getting a mini pc made sense for me. To those who say these are just as expensive as a gaming laptop, but with no screen, keyboard, etc, I would argue that artificial power limits on most laptop cpus/gpus and cooling limitations give laptops much worse results compared with Mini PCs using the same components. Its dumb just how much cooling matters, and having a battery, keyboard and screen sitting on these components adds a lot of heat and less room for ventilation. Delayed release due to some software instabilities to fix (version with SSD and RAM).
Due to customs problems in the EU, the Barebeone version will suffer delays in delivery, probably between the end of December 2022 and the beginning of January 2023.

Between Friday and Saturday the first shipment tracking (DHL) was sent to EU buyers.
The UM690s will probably be delivered just before Christmas.

I was lucky to order this early with 64GB RAM and 1TB M.2 SSD to get it shipped at the end of Nov. Also getting ACASIS 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure with a MSI SPATIUM M480 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2TB 2280 Internal SSD to take advantage of the USB4 port. This is replacing my ancient computer with a core i7-920. I was just waiting very patiently for RDNA 2 igpu mini-pc to finally be released instead of Vega graphics.

    Hey +ETA PRIME , I've got 2 suggestions for you test-videos:
    1. I thing video export could be a valid test as well for those small machines since they fit perfectly into home office or living room and more and more people seems to want to cut and export their smartphone 4K holiday videos. You could use a freeware like DaVinci Resolve free and a "standard project" for the same testing.
    2. It would be cool if you would kinda integrate the results of the "old generation" of such devices, maybe from the Ryzen 2400G or 4650 G. Just to see the leap in performance for upgrading.
The idea of an extern GPU is kinda nice when plugin into a mobile device like Steam Deck. But for a stationary Mini PC I think it's kind off pointless because the point of having a Mini PC is less space. With an extern GPU case I would have 2 cases now on my desk which could be also achieved with a much cheaper Small PC build with standard parts.
Thumbs up and cheers from Germany!

ServeTheHome just reviewed this mini PC as well and they found that due to high memory temps, the system was throttling itself because unlike the Beelink GTR6 6900HX (which also has the same CPU as this), the Beelink system had a fan for the NVMe and SODIMM RAM.
What was the max temperature that you saw for the RAM when you were testing this system?

I have this model on order from Minis Forum. However there is some education required on the use of the "40Gbps" port on the front. I have some queries out with Minis Forum but since this isn't a released product yet, I don't have any responses just yet. First issue, Windows 11 is reported as not supporting 40Gbps off this port, only 20Gbps. (Unless MSFT put a recent update out) Your eGPU will work, but there will be no speed benefits. Second issue: USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 are compatible, sorta. ETA Prime called it Thunderbolt 3 which does work on a USB4 port but the video out is limited in TB3 mode, 16Gbps and one 4K display. If it was really running at 40Gbps in TB4 mode, you can run (2) 4K displays or PCIe at 32Gbps. Confused yet? To make it worse, some OEM's choose to allow multiple displays on TB3 by bifurcating. The reason for the variance and probably why Minis Forum only calls the port "USB4" is because to get the TB4 logo you have to get it certified. TB4 requires VT-d and some other features to be available to get the logo. It's not clear if this unit has the new AMD IOMMU. Stick a TB3 device into a USB4 port and it should work, stick a TB4 device into a USB4 port and certain features may or may not be available depending on the number of lanes and DMA the port is providing. And don't even ask about the cables. TB4 only supports 40Gbps with a 2m cable. What about Linux? You will need kernel 6.1 to get full support of the port and the new IOMMU type and it is currently in RC6 and not in general release just yet. All that said, until more info comes out, be aware that there may be limitations.

I’ve always wanted one of these small systems just with an apu but the graphics performance have never been good enough until now. I can’t wait to see 7000 amd apu’s with rdna 3 graphics. Man amd has came so far in a short time i was a intel only person for many years cpu wise and my last 3 cpu’s have been amd. Im still waiting on the 7000 series 3dvcache models. While I do have a nvidia gpu (4090) I think the average person should buy last gen amd their price to performance is getting insane and if you play 1440p the 6950xt is crazy fast. And the 6600xt is so cheap now and is a little faster than a 5700xt. I love collecting gpu’s and cpu’s and benchmarking different hardware. I have a 5950x and 5800x3d in my main systems and my newest intel cpu is a 9900ks. The 13900k a great cpu just don’t want to get a cpu with a dead socket and 3d vcache models should destroy intel.

    - some Small form factor PC
    - some reasonably portable monitor that we could fit in a backpack
    - some portable powerbanks
