WOW!!! I've seen this exact APU in other systems and I've seen other Minis Forum PC's before but I've never seen anyone try to run AA games and adjust them to get them running well... So let me tell you that I AM SUPER IMPRESSED!!! WOW!!!!! It's not for me personally, but if say I wanted to get my daughter a small machine for her to use for web surfing AND a but of gaming... well THIS would be IT!!! :D THANKS DAN!
Great review! I love these mini PCs. The APU's in them scale very well with memory speeds. ETAPrime showed about a 10% uplift using 6000mhz ram, plus you can also bump the wattage in the bios to get even more out of them.
This thing is why i'm exited for the next generation of CPU and specially APU from AMD. If it has similar uplift in performance as the iGPU in 799X it may break a barrier for me. For being enough, for all purposes. IT will be a long time until Minisforum gets a product out with it, but i'm definitely anxious for it.
The 690S should do the same but without the heat issues; just sad that the 7735 variants do not support memory speed settings. They all default to 4800MT from what I can see in all the reviews.
Well that's just it dude, Dan said a couple of times, It's not targeting gamers at all. It's just a capable enough unit that it will play games fairly well (if you crank down the graphics quality enough).
Note the included RAM is "only" DDR5-4800. Faster SODIMMs are coming on the market, and I believe the BIOS on the UM690 allows selecting faster DDR as well as upping the TDP.
That's very interesting, this little pc can manage to get around a 1050ti or above performance level with the integrated 680M using only 45W that's really surprising, I also believe that the reason why the games that you tested especially spiderman miles morales has lot of stuttering like that because it's needs more RAM since it's sharing with the iGPU and also because you can see that it's using 13GBs of ram at some points of the benchmark, also those 2 Gbs from the 16 GBS of total tam are normally reserved to the windows OS and that's the reason why I believe these big stutterings on Warzone 2 and Spiderman happen to be so bad.
You could get around those RAM limitations by installing a different operating system with more optimizations regarding that though. For example SteamOS on the Steam Deck has to work around similar limitations but since it's not running a full blown desktop in the background for most of the time, it can handle such games much better.
Thank you SO SO much for showing the power brick connector at 6:27 and 6:35. I want to import this mini PC from China but they only provide the Chinese standard power plug there, your video showed that I can use an ATX PSU cable with this power brick!!!
I am an IT Pro for over 23 years, and I buy Lenovo minis for my company. I must say this seems to be a very nice mini's for the price. I will be looking into these once they are available.
They have even much cheaper options which are more than enough for most requirements in a business. Been saying for years that business should have a look at these things instead of just buying the big and expensive stuff they always bought.
A year later....this version overheats but the 690S has a reimagined cooling system that appears to work really well. This one also lets the users set the RAM speeds, up to 6000MT. I would LOVE to see a comparison between this one with the memory speed turned up to 5600 - using actual 5600mt DDR5 memory (or higher) and the 780XT - both with the same amount of memory and the same iGPU allocation. That would be awesome!
Have a look at the EliteMini HX90G from Minisforum. Especially with the current discount that is a pretty impressive little PC. The upcoming EliteMini HX99G has a 6900hx, which is even better because it has USB4. The only thing preventing me from buying one, is the GPU. While the RX6600m is a decent option, I don't get why Minisforum does not have a 6800 option. If it can be cooled in a thin Notebook, they should be able to do it in that case of theirs. That would be an instant xmas present for my girlfriend.
been eyeing these Chinese mini PC's for quite a while and they improve so much in just 2 years - my pc is almost 4 years old and im excited to replace it maybe with these
Good video. What this is probably good for is playing 10yr old games on your big screen tv and sofa, old favorites that aren't graphically intense and don't take up a lot of storage. Maybe it could even play something like Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition at 4k. (That game was recently given away fro Epic games.)
Seems kind of expensive for this use case, you'd be much better served with an Xbox series S. I think these are very specifically for people with very limited space and who might game one or two single player games per year.
These mini PCs are almost there; either a bit more performance or a more modest price tag (preferably both) and these will start replacing towers and laptops at break neck speed.
USB4 means Thunderbolt 3 support = you can even attach an external GPU if needed , its 40 Gbit / 4 Lanes PCIe 3.0 only , but an eGPU still would deliver 75 - 85 % of its usual Performance i guess It looks like you can attach the Mini PC to the Vesa mounf of a Monitor = completly invisibel
I'm actually getting one of these for an interim PC as my 4800H is dying... You can also spend $500 and get an eGPU for it on the USB4 port... It looks almost as good as my 5600M... But I have a 6400 in my HTPC which is enough temporarily...
Very cool! I would also be very interested in seeing it compared to current gaming consoles. Honestly I'd like to watch anything that bashes on gaming consoles if I'm being honest! lol! PCs rule the world!
I would like to see how it plays farming simulator 22 and American truck simulator. I'm looking at getting one of those PCs, and if it will play it fairly well, I might buy. Much appreciated.
i think the stuttering in games are probably been caused by the 45w tdp of the igpu, downing clocks to not exceed the wattage limit imposed in the bios maybe an undvervolt, playing with limits in the bios or capping the fps at 60 would help in those situations. but overall, wonderful video! those mini pcs are really a thing with ddr5 these days
The delivery leave the depo on the 25th.. Have one on pre order.. You should raise the CPU tdp to 75W will run that no problem.. Could do with some faster ram/lower latency.. Best to order the barbones.. Will make a great little home media server/mobile pc 👌
Hi, Can I use this mini PC as my office PC and can Microsoft office be loaded on to it? What is the expected life on one of these if left on all the time? Thanks.
Learn to use frame cap to deal with stutters and sharpness when upscaling and 900p . The USB 4 port might support Thunderbolt 3 for eGPU faster RAM makes a difference as does using 3rd party SW to adjust CPU and iGPU perf.
These already shipped for first orders. Got one on Monday. It was barebones and I added my own ram/nvme. I also use a prior gen model for gaming pc streaming to my den. It has the 5625U. Also, both rear hdmi ports can do 4k120. I can actually do 4k144 but I think there’s some DSC going on.
Thanks for the review!!I'm trying to raise money to buy one,to save money on electric bills....i'm about 450$ short (550 after the price increase...).So it will take time....You also need to dive a bit more into this little PC,you can change its TDP from its bios and get more performance out of it.OC the memory will also help a lot with the APU.
this needs 2x16 GB ram, and overclocked a bit and tuned. 16 shared across windows, the game and the GPU is too little at times and can mean a lot of frame spikes.
Aye glad to see more minisforum pcs being looked at. These things are so cool. They have some pretty cool gaming ones with the nucxi7 I think it’s called
This may be an ignorant question, but with this mini-pc, would it be possible to take out the CPU, and place it in a tower with a compatible motherboard? I know some of these PC's that are built like this have parts soldered in, so I was just a bit curious.
@@RurouTube that was what I was afraid of. I didn't know if it used a desktop APU that was soldered, or a laptop CPU that was soldered. Thank you for the reply!

This is nice. But why buy this when you can buy a PS5/Xbox series x and get a better gaming experience for $550 or less for the PS5 digital or xbox series s?
Hey, love your work! I was wondering if you could do a vid reviewing the 1usmus drivers for the rx 6700 xt and 6800 xt.
