On Patreon, I want to get to know my viewers and vice versa. It can be hard to form connections in the RUclips comments. I'd also like to share behind the scenes photos and info, and photos and videos from my personal life. I'll be doing DIY projects once I buy a house, so I'll share satisfying before/during/after photos from my home remodel and decorating. Many posts will be available for free, so join even if you won't be a paying member. There is one tier for $3/mo.

I watched a self-help RUclips video the other day about procrastination. I have the perfectionism procrastination issue where I don't do a thing bc I think it needs to be done very well before I do it. This isn't for everything. Just some things (like my secret project that's coming out in a week). Things I have decided matter a lot.

My journey seems identical to yours, only it took me twice as long to go back to my youthful desires. I, too, had many Barbies and accoutrements (my dad was a Mattel executive!) and played with them until I was 13, at which point I gave everything to a family friend and regretted this decision bitterly soon thereafter. I made a lot of things myself for my Barbies, including a large cardboard house and clothing. I have always had a fascination with miniatures.

Bentley House Mini's, Little Gretchen's Workshop, and your channel have all been my reintroduction and reinspiration to miniatures! My sister, mother, and I made mini's, collected them, and built houses in the 80's and into the 90's, but life took over and it all just fizzled 😞. Like many, COVID really took away the things i enjoyed outside so I refocused and as fate would have and RUclips played it, the 3 channels I mentioned above floated into my "suggestions" and the rest is history! I finally started my greenhouse mini from a glass display cabinet I purchased and it is not as scary as I thought.
I also just purchased a 3 level dolls house that is 130cm tall and 80cm wide. It was $20 from the opshop or second hand store if your not from Australia.
I've already started to replace the wonky floors and about to redecorate the exterior.
If I pretty it up enough and make some basic furniture from cardboard by Christmas im going to sell it and use that money towards a laser cutter so I can make furniture myself.... possibly even sell the kits locally because no one does that in my town.
This is all inspired by your channel and your easy to follow instructions.
I watch the other mini channels but I've found your videos to be the most inspiring and easy to follow for my personality.
I am so happy you dealt with your anxiety and got on top of it.
I pray you end up making enough from your videos so you can choose to leave your other jobs if you want.

To be honest, I loved hearing your story about your decision anxiety and selling the house because of it as I usually just put the half-finished thing in a box for 10 years until I pull it out and can magically finish it perfectly. I absolutely love your videos, i love how you make things out of every day items and i know what you mean with decision paralysis. I went from mini projects to a slighlty bigger one to throwing myself in at the deep end with a 1/12th scale house. We'd be a match made in heaven. I don't love doing the smaller stuff--what I call the "accoutrements." But I love planning and building things. And I love the larger decorating--wallpaper, flooring etc. I too hate all things that have to do with numbers, including measuring, but I have worked to overcome this (sort of). I try to find ways around numbers. I also hate horror movies. And I'd rather saw my own arm off than electrify a house, although I am trying (sort of) to get over that. I also am very impatient but tenacious. By gosh, I WILL have my way with this mini thing. Thanks for sharing your story.

I thought that you've been making miniatures for a lot longer than 3 years. You are very good! I think that there are people like you who have the ability of an artist, then there are people like me. I need instructions. I just can't visualize creativity. Don't ask me to put together a flower arrangement. It's not going to look good. My skills need to have structure. I was a computer programmer and took classes to be an accountant. I really enjoyed both fields.
BTW, Ara did get her first project into a museum, but she worked on the project for 11 years. I'm sure that there were a few items that didn't make into the house. Ara is amazing. I can see how she has gotten even better over the years that I've watched her.

@@queencityminis that is where I am at sure ptsd is a bit different but it has gotten so bad I can’t go out I avoid going out . I just recently got a new dr who found herself taking me off meds that worked for a decade for me without reason other than they are addictive . The drug crisis is so sad because people with pain or in my case ptsd I’m having trouble getting treatment for well documented ptsd . She simply removed the medicine because it was a benzodiazepine. Unfortunately depression meds make me worse .
In a nut shell not having help made me realize how much I want to be better because depending on a dr to write a prescription is still kind of just as helpless . I believe we are in a healthcare crisis and drs don’t have compassion the way they once did moral has gone to all time low . I was okay until The med change . At first I tried what she said and figured maybe she cares and she is right I don’t want to be on something that is “addictive” three med failures later and she refuses to place me back on what worked for me and it left me in. A place where all I Do is isolate because going out I have wound up in the ER for tachycardia. This left me helpless . I just honestly got so tired of it I started frantically searching for new drs .. but even if I go to the new dr and get the symptoms under control it doesn’t change I’m dependent on a person and a medication for help . So I have been trying to lean more on prayer and reading the word of God and going back to art and watching art channels and sermons . I’m basically watching my dr commit malpractice and because she can clearly see I’m in area (clinic) in low income threshold what am I gonna do sue -I hope to one day overcome as you did because I don’t want to depend on anyone or anything for my peace .

Channels like yours inspired me to do tiny reels and voiceovers for my jewelry instagram. People seem to really like that cuz you can point out details and things you especially like. But it’s ridiculous the time it takes even when it’s 30 seconds

Oh I know! RUclips made it easy and fast to rework videos into Shorts, so I've been doing that lately. That's been fun.

This was a nice get to know you video. Please never change your format of video with how you are so to the point and relaxing voice~ it is the best. Also, often I get bogged down with thinking my dollhouse needs to be so perfect and you’re right that really sucks the joy out of it. Like you said- have fun and keep it moving!

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  7 месяцев назад

Thank you! I won't change my format. I like providing to the point videos that are informative for people who make minis, but are still entertaining for people who don't make miniatures. I think videos become less entertaining when there's too much detailed instruction.

1:30 GIRL SAME 😐😂🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm in my early 30's so only a couple of years younger then you but I grew up with Barbie, Pokémon, Bratz, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc and almost all of my childhood stuff I either ended up giving to my niece who in turn would play with it for five minutes get bored stop playing with it then eventually lose it or my sister her mom gave it away, former roommates stole it, I didn't take care of it and it had to be trashed due to damage, lost it during all my moves or it's stuck in my parents garage or some long lost storage unit, and as of right now I only have a microscopic fraction of everything I grew up with left and most of that was stuff I didn't really play with all that much if at all and doesn't mean anything with only a few having special meaning but only because it was a gift from a loved one who's since passed away or a loved one who busted their ass to get it for me not because of the actual item itself. I don't know if it was the same house but when I was a little kid I got that fancy Barbie house for Christmas in the late 1990's that was two stories, had an electric elevator, and it was pink with a victorian era esque house design (haven't seen that thing in probably over 20 years). I'm not mad just bummed out haha because had I had the foresight to hold onto all of my stuff, properly take care of it, properly store it, and not give it away or at the very least only let people borrow it versus letting them have it i'd probably still have most if not all of it 🥺😭 Still salty about it so I feel ya 🤣

Yes! My Barbie Dream House was the Victorian dream house from the late 90s. Mine was also pink, had an elevator, a pink plastic sofa, a bathroom vanity upstairs folded down into a tub, etc.

I'm excited about your Patreon. I put this video on pause and immediately went and signed up as a $3 member! I also rejoined Bentley House Minis. I find miniatures are taking up more and more of my day. I can do that cause I was on disability for 10 years and have now transitioned to SS retirement. Congrats on your Patreon, hope it goes well for you. P.S. - the reason I never got a ratoo... same as yours.

I enjoyed this video and getting to know more about you. I've enjoyed listening to you and watching your videos for a while now. I love your dry sense of humor (and Studson's) and the fact that your fingers are usually dirty with paint and/or glue (you really get into what you're doing). Please don't become such a YT sensation and start sporting a high-end, long nail manicure, OK?! 😆Stay cool, Shyra!

😆 I have thought of painting my nails so they're more presentable, but they always get ruined. I just can't stop myself from eating while the nail polish is setting lol
I love Studson! He's my favorite non-miniature RUclipsr.

I absolutely do enjoy your content. You and your videos got me into half scale miniatures. As a child, I started out making a cardboard dollhouse , paying attention to the most realistic details I could accomplish. I can't watch horror either or Lassie like shows. I just got an art room built in the garage so I'm very excited to get this set up. Good luck with house hunting. Would you mind telling me what kind of hot glue gun you use? I know you told us or I read it somewhere but I forgot. I'm on my 3 rd glue gun... sending that one back because they all seem to leak. Anyway, thank you for this awesome video. I really, really enjoyed it.

That's awesome! I'm so glad you're making minis.
Why can't you watch Lassie type shows?
My hot glue has the same problem with leaking. The glue is hot and just dribbles out of the tip. Both of mine do that. Maybe it's to be expected. I got it secondhand. I'm not sure what brand it is.
