My uncle actually has been inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone (legally) on one of those tours and it's strangely beautiful. He sent me a photo of the inside of one of the houses and it really looks like the people who lived there just disappeared in the middle of the day, there was a homework assignment sitting on a table, about half of it filled in, old dishes stacked on the counter, an old toy car on the floor and everywhere there's plants growing through the walls, floors, and windows. But the Ukrainians were completely occupied and weren’t freed until 1991. Still a bad reason to not know Ukraine is a country though lol.

In one of the pieces of marketing it's referenced that "the people who didn't leave were never seen again". I think the implication is that the mutants actually _are_ the original residents of Chernobyl, and the little girl can be explained either as that the radiation halted the aging process (which also may explain the ages of the other mutants, more on that in a second), or that it was a total story oversight. In regards to the former theory, many of the mutants look like they could be in their 20s-40s. This would likely be the average age of the Chernobyl population at the time of the accident, as Chernobyl was an industrial town so many of the people living there would be of working age. If the mutants really are these previous residents then they should be in their 50s-70s but clearly aren't. This would have to mean the mutants, including the little girl, had to stop aging due to the radiation. If that's the case then this gives a motive for the Russian military to be experimenting on them: they're trying to figure out 1) how these mutants are surviving unprotected in such a radioactive environment, and 2) why they stopped aging. I have no idea whether or not any of this was actually intended, but I think it makes the story more interesting, and I'm pretty convinced the screenwriters did intend for the mutants to be the original residents. First off, I'm pretty sure that's what the above line in the marketing is alluding to. Second off, the idea that they were the original residents is a lot less convoluted than any explanation involving them _not_ being the original residents. It's just a lot more parsimonious that way.
@The f2p Pyro The average amount of radiation a normal person encounters within a year is 200 milisieverts; as of a 2009 survey the lowest radiation levels in Chernobyl/Pripyat are 0.2 milisieverts per hour, with the highest levels reaching over 330 milisieverts per hour. While the lower end of 0.2 milisieverts per hour is quite weak and would take over a month to reach the 200 milisievert mark, after one year of exposure that number would increase to 1752 milisieverts, almost double the amount required to see a 5% increased risk in developing cancer later in life. While the radiation levels will have gone down in the past decade since these measurements, it won't have been by much unless there was active human intervention and clean-up work aiding the process. Obviously these levels were higher in the past, and significantly higher in the first couple of years before the short-term isotopes were spent. Also, in the context of the movie, there likely wasn't as much of a clean-up effort as there was in real life if there were dangerous mutants still living in the area. Said clean-up has done much to decrease the radiation in Chernobyl and Pripyat.

The fish weren't just shown darting around the water in their first scene. They swarm to where the jerky the tour guide had went into the water. After the prank as the guide is laughing one of them slaps the jerky from his hand into the water. You see a final ripple coming from where the jerky hit the water, then you see multiple of the fish swarm to that spot. Making it extra creepy in my opinion. Not a super big deal, but wanted to add that detail.
For anyone who has never been lost in the dark, that shit is terrifying. *STORY TIME* In college I went hiking in the Fall to an interstate park alongside the nearby cliffs. The entire park spans +40mi and I was determined to see as much as possible in 1 day. Fast forward after I think I’ve started to turn around and it’s about 3 o’clock. My phone fricken dies on me. Now with no clear idea where I am on my map or which paths I should take to return to my car, I keep pressing on. At sunset the trail becomes harder to see as darkness begins to surround me. I still haven’t seen any other hikers once my phone dies so I begin to really lose my shit. I decide to just start running the rest of the way to cover as much ground as possible in hopes to return to civilization. Worst case scenario I begin visualizing horror movies where I either get mugged, attacked by a wild animal, tumble down a small wall or the entire cliff, or see supernatural shit go down (Unlikely but not impossible). It’s like 7 o’clock by now and I’ve been hiking/running for about 7 full hours with minimal food and water packed. I begin having one sided conversations with god and contemplate either staying or screaming for help. Like anyone who feels they’re about to die I start making peace with some of the things I’ve done and reflect on some major mistakes I’ve made (hiking alone being one). About another hour later I reach a nicely paved road on a hill near the path, and I follow it to the closest town. I limp my way into the public library and talk to the librarian about my situation. I proceed to call for a ride and everything worked out. Although unnecessary, my story was to highlight that in the dark your imagination runs rampant. Fear and adrenaline work in a coexistent cycle that only elevates the tension. If ever get lost, get lost during the day or you’ll be panicking every minute of every second
Been on foot movements through wooded areas. Yeah, woods at night take some getting used to. I'd tell anyone who can't figure out where they're going and isn't at risk due to weather or animals to stop exactly where they are and wait for morning. Seriously. Park your butt where it is at that very moment. Lean your back against a tree. Shut your eyes. Wait.
Your story is awesome! I don’t think it was a one way conversation with God. I think he was letting you talk so you can get those things off your chest. And maybe instead of telling you to keep going, wanted you to see you CAN make the decision and motivate yourself.
This shit not even scary at all ur just a pu$$y😭😭😭 bro started panicking and thinking he was dead within 4hrs and calling 7pm dark💀 Try being lost wit 3 friends in the woods at 11pm and finding a cabin wit an old man who helps us with directions just to come back the next day to thank him just to find out a young couple lives there and claiming there’s never been an old guy living there 💀
They are more similar to the controllers from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series For those who don't know. Controllers are these creatures who have been experimented on via radiation. They have mind controlling powers and are incredibly powerful. They are able to make people seem like they are walking with friends. When in reality they are walking with zombies or mutants. Or that they are walking on a safe path, when they are actually about to walk off a cliff. They basically have mind control powers that are able to control peoples minds. They are also able to speak aswell, but thats a rare encounter. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat. You're able to find a cave with controller and a dead stalker. They controller starts invading your mind due to the psyic field telling you to "Leave" When entered and killed, a body of a stalker is seen that looks like he was the creatures dinner. So they are a essentially a mutated form of human that has mind control powers. Nice
@@dephtons Would people in the West normally call Soviet government Russian government? Just curious. Honestly, I doubt this takes place in USSR. First, one of the characters just randomly moved to live in Kyiv. There were foreigners in USSR, of course, but considering the American attitude towards it, him moving to independent Ukraine sounds more likely. Second, Yuri is surprised that there is military guarding the area and that they won't let them through, but this situation would be 100% normal in Soviet times, no unauthorized people were allowed into the exclusion zone.

@@PerturaBased i didn't even watch the film lmao, i am talking about real life people coming and analyzing the area.. if there are ukrainians in the film then fine lol its not that deep
Respectfully, I think you missed two important points that at least add a bit more, if not explain, parts of the movie. One is when Yuri finds a campfire and tries to brush over it to hide it before he becomes a bit nervous and guides their attention away from the spot as if he knows more than he's saying. This also adds to the gun scene, indicating he may be armed specifically because he knows there is more up than just the fish (which he asked one guy to tell him if he saw movement in the water before pulling the prank - another thing he was aware of) rather than just being armed because he is former special ops. The second thing is right before the ending - when Amanda was on the gurney being wheeled through the hall they didn't just realize she saw too much, they were asking questions to find out if she was alone or if anyone might be looking for her at any given time which makes more sense why they left her alive a little bit longer.
Or the part where Amanda is looking through the photos on her camera and realizes in one of the photos there’s a creature in the window of one of the buildings but she fails to say anything lol I was also curious about Yuri and that little fire thing makes you wonder if he knew more than what he tells the group about them supposedly being alone.
As someone who is a history buff and read a lot of stuff about Chernobyl even before the HBO series, There has been plenty of activity around the site since the disaster in 1986, it's an ongoing clean up effort. Teams inspecting the containment structure (even before the special new one was built), monitoring the radiation levels, etc. There's no way all this could have gone on without running into someone passing through the area, not saying it would have made a difference but they would have been scooped up by the army or cleanup crews before the end of the first day. The exclusion zone is also not 100% abandoned either, some people still live in the less irradiated areas and have been there since the 80s, the idea that no one is there but these creatures and that they existed the world would somehow not know about them is a weak plot point.
I actually got a shirt for this movie about 7 years ago at a festival in Seattle. I was an Odwalla ambassador, and was giving away leftover samples. I gave the right pair a box of bars and a couple jugs of smoothies to the right guys ;p Had no idea what it was. Pulled it out of a box a few months ago. Been wearing it on my needed grocery store runs lol
I can just imagine the writers all sitting in a room together, and one says, "Alright, get all the scary shit you can think of, put it on the board, and we'll fit it into the script later-"
Wow this is the 2nd movie that I've requested that you've done. Idk if my comments had anything with your motive to do the video, but whatever it was, THANKFUL & GRATEFUL as always 🤗💁🏽♂️

for sakes of some saity there. Seen the movie, yet didn`t enjoyed much. Myself from Kyiv, born and raised. -- "military" control point - justified. There`s bunch of them, providing some sort of security for the area from people who still try to grab something remotely useful from the areas and \ or trying to have similar to the movie off-the-charts visit. There`s whole bunch of them. Mere example - to prevent any idiot from using remnants or waste of the reactor to create a dirty nuke. Yes, it`s a thread. -- there`s actually two areas. 30 KM zone and 10 KM zone. Deactivation services doing they`r job pretty nicely. Area becomes less and less dangerous over time. -- after new cover object was built and moved in place, levels of radiation decreased rapidly. -- there`s still A LOT of places where you shouldn`t even wander around for 5 minutes due to possible impact to your health. Like places where stored old cars that where used dealing with original catastrophe. -- wildlife prospers there. Reported that several of different animal species prosper without large presence of humans, and those species where on edge of dying out at all. -- yes, it is possible to meet a bear or a wolf there, in the city or in the woods. -- yes, it is possible to sneak in and out occasionally. Tho its not healthy and safe on so many levels. -- it`s much harder to sneak out some car parts or large party of high voltage electric wires now (comparing to 10 years ago, for example). It dosent means EVERYTHING there is strictly radioactive on dangerous level - thing is, its actual levels may be relatively low, however if you`d took a souvenir and would be exposed to it for extended periods of time. On the counter part: -- yes, it is possible to get a fully valid, safe and official tour in the area. You`r not gonna get too close to the reactor itself for lots of reasons, however to observe the Ghost City et cetera - absolutely fine. There`s lots of company`s who arrange tours there. Keep in mind, official tour requires you to get an official pass from the government. Pass costs approximately 12-15$ , tour itself should be within 200$ +- per person. Note, it`s only the tour for a day, since the early morning till the late evening. Preparation for tour, including pass, could take about 10-12 days due to some bureaucracy. -- there`s a lot really safe routes around the area for those who will to see a ghost city and figure out some of it`s history. -- you should keep aware while arranging tour > shit service may happen, unfortunately, up to tour cancellation. Friend of mine had this situation, even tho he got his money back without any issues - still, bad mood. -- there`s a lot of radiation control areas while in there. You`ll meet them at least 4 times, two on the way in, same on the way out. It is required to ensure you didn`t took dangerous souvenir or didn`t catch up non healthy dose on your clothings. So, if planning a tour - keep in mind that. -- no drones allowed for filming due to security reasons. as a bonus - you`ll have the ability to check on ~~1600 years old city of Kyiv :) You`ll be able to find really reasonable prices, fine service and a lot of english-speaking people, even if it`s the real basics level.
you are correct about the name (and should`ve change it long ago on the account, will do after the comment) well, as far as i see, it mostly fine. I`d expect to see some staring sometimes, however i do spot a black, asian or indian time to time here, among of many others, in some cases - living, not only visiting. Also, we have a lot of students studying "by exchange" as we call it, not sure i use the phrase correctly. Above that, i`d say its possible to get _some_ race-related problems, but you`d probably not end up in any of such places anyway, nothing much to view on those districts, mostly.
well, consider that my conversational skills in english is a bit "bare metal" as i mostly use it for work, so i might have missed some important points or something. And above that, its barely any sort of analysis, i just get some of that questioned \ misinterpreted a lot from any non-locals, hence decided to put it here as well.
To answer video poster question. Guards are in the outskirts of Chernobyl to help preserve the zone, since it's pretty dangerous when you don't know about radioactive hot spots, guard people working at the NPP (It's not active, they are maintaning the sarcophagus) and prevent pesky bad dudes from trying to steal radioactive material for dirty bombs.

For anyone who has never been lost in the dark, that shit is terrifying.
*STORY TIME*
In college I went hiking in the Fall to an interstate park alongside the nearby cliffs.
Wait.
if i ever get lost in the dark, i allway pull out a gun
So do you continue to go hiking still or did this experience make you stop?
Your story is awesome! I don’t think it was a one way conversation with God. I think he was letting you talk so you can get those things off your chest. And maybe instead of telling you to keep going, wanted you to see you CAN make the decision and motivate yourself.
This shit not even scary at all ur just a pu$$y😭😭😭 bro started panicking and thinking he was dead within 4hrs and calling 7pm dark💀
Try being lost wit 3 friends in the woods at 11pm and finding a cabin wit an old man who helps us with directions just to come back the next day to thank him just to find out a young couple lives there and claiming there’s never been an old guy living there 💀
So these monsters are pretty much like the feral ghouls from fallout
Nero Fogg .......yes
YUP it is exactly that.
They are more similar to the controllers from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
For those who don't know.
They controller starts invading your mind due to the psyic field telling you to "Leave"
When entered and killed, a body of a stalker is seen that looks like he was the creatures dinner. So they are a essentially a mutated form of human that has mind control powers. Nice
Nero Fogg My boi.

The exclusion zone is also not 100% abandoned either, some people still live in the less irradiated areas and have been there since the 80s, the idea that no one is there but these creatures and that they existed the world would somehow not know about them is a weak plot point.

for sakes of some saity there.
On the counter part:
-- yes, it is possible to get a fully valid, safe and official tour in the area.
THANK YOU

Also, we have a lot of students studying "by exchange" as we call it, not sure i use the phrase correctly.
Above that, i`d say its possible to get _some_ race-related problems, but you`d probably not end up in any of such places anyway, nothing much to view on those districts, mostly.
...i totally forgot to put a good-old-tato at the end. thank you for the fix!

Anyone else never watch the movie but then feel like a pro after watching the Vids.
