"Downtown Train" was originally written and recorded by Tom Waits. Rod released his version in 1989 and it was made available on the 'Storyteller: Complete Anthology' box set. As a single, the song made the top spots on the Canadian singles chart, the US Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart and the US Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Furthermore, it reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. Also, Rod received a Grammy nomination for his performance of this song.

. I've made many comments in different parts of RUclips. I will always continue to listen to this song as it really talks about the major part of my life., 💥 By me, taking the E Train, which was one of life's greatest experiences. 🥰🥰 I learned patience, kindness, and lastly tolerance of all human beings where we were all crowded in 💥 one of the cars on the E train. I Wouldn't change that experience for all the money in the world 🌍
