    I am 65 years old and I have wanted dreads forever. However, my adult children and adult grandchildren would hate it. I am going for it after watching you. Maybe this old lady will brighten up a bit. Thank you so much!!!!!!

      candace Alward I admire your courage, I share the same problem but I keep telling myself your born alone and you die alone so why let some many people influence your decisions in between especially if your not hurting yourself or someone else. I hope you go for it and I wish you much happiness. ✌❤

    Cleaning them helps them lock. it puts the static/electricity in which locks your hair. not washing makes your hair oily and lubricates your hair sort of like conditioner which explains the loose hair. the roots will never fully lock considering regrowth.

    Additionally, leaving long hair to its own devices by not brushing or cutting the hair will encourage it to tangle together as it grows, leading to twisted, matted ropes of hair known as dreadlocks. The latter method is typically referred to as the neglect, natural, organic, or freeform method.

This video for me is a double win. 1) Very informative. This will def. help me with getting the dreads done. 2) There are plenty of other amazing girls out there. ;)

    There is no certain texture hair needed for dreads, dreads are simply a style for low maintainance purposes to some it looks good to some it looks bad ,move on. Yes, it originated in African roots , but There's no certain color of people that are recommended for a certain hairstyle, everyone can do whatever the f*** they want with their hair. I'm tired of hearing people who say that ,it gets so damn old. Rock those dreads pretty girl , screw all those haters, and be you!

    It's funny because people are over here talking about "white people don't have the type of hair for locks" ... Yet ... She looks waaaayyy better in them than most of the people that "naturally grow them out" Stop bringing up "religion and culture" and use it against "trend" or "stupid hippie phase". Because I guarantee you half of the rappers that have dreadlocks aren't aiming to reflect culture. Grow tf up. It's 2015 , step out of it.

    To all the moronic commenters that say that white people cannot physically get dreadlocks, this is simply not at all true. Human hair comes in a variety of different textures and the ability for certain hair types to lock up nicely is by no means limited to one specific 'race', indeed my hair is so frizzy and curly that dreadlocks have been the only way to bring some kind of order to my hair. The question of cultural appropriation is another matter entirely and one which is far too complicated to discuss in a YT comment, suffice to say that so called racial 'differences' are culturally created within the context of the Euro-American society. Black people are not a singular cultural group and to declare that they are is to ignore the vast array of different groups that just so happen to 'black'.

    Dreads are supposed to be washed!!! She is giving out misinformation. She could co-wash them every few days, and only shampoo every once in a while if she didn't want to strip her hair of it's natural oils. But like all hairstyles, dreads need to be washed. I highly doubt she refrains from washing her hair, when she doesn't have it in a locked style. ALSO, she is clearly not twisting them weekly, or on any regular basis. They are not uniform, neat, or in good condition because she did not put them in correctly initially, and she is not twisting them often, and at regular intervals as she should. She should also be putting oil into them when she twists them, to condition them, so that the hair is tidy and healthy. She is a very beautiful girl, so she can get away with a lot. I mean that even as messy, chaotic and ridiculous as they are, she still looks gorgeous. But this makes me upset, because it misrepresents what dreadlocks are meant to be about. I feel frustrated that when people wear them like this, they perpetuate the misinformation that dreads are supposed to be unkempt, dirty and wild--which couldn't be further from the truth. It feels like mockery. Not intentional mockery, but in a way worse than that. A sort of entitled lack of concern as to what it might mean to other people, and how it might affect them and their place in society. Now this girl is clearly, in no way solely responsible for this. But she would be one of a large, and ever growing pool of entitled kids, who lack the empathy to see what the socio-cultural impact of their getting dreads might be in the first place. And that if they decided they truly did want to do it, that compassion should tell them that they should at least seek out help, to find the most respectful way they could go about it.

      MissJessyeNorman who they fuck wants neat, uniform dreads? dreadlocks are about rejecting society's expectation of what your hair should look like(at least for some people).

    • @DesertStarZion
      @DesertStarZion 9 лет назад +12

      MissJessyeNorman u sound like an intelligent person and when u look at the history of dreadlocks, the intention was very much opposite of your opinion. They were a physical act of separating oneself, a purely spiritual endeavor, so who are you to say how and why a person should wear their locs? It is such a personal journey and for some can be one of vanity (maintaining "perfect" locs) and one as an extension of one's consciousness and identity as to who they are. you don't "correctly them in", you just let them be, train them along the way but I find your comment to be harsh and misrepresenting as well

    • @johannag.2411
      @johannag.2411 9 лет назад +9

      MissJessyeNorman just to be clear: I've got nothing against people like you who want their dreads too be neat and tidy, but your sentence " it misrepresents what dreadlocks are meant to be about" made me wonder if YOU know what dreadlocks are all about... they've originally had a religious meaning to them and natural dreads are basically all about stopping to comb your hair and basically letting them do whatever they want. I, personally, am not a fan of taking neat 2x2 square portions of your hair in order to make perfectly shaped dreads. Taste varies and it doesn't matter to me what you wanna do with your hair, but telling other people how their dreadlocks HAVE to look like is weird, as dreadlocks (at least to me) are one of the few hairstyles that are meant to look natural... Just saying. no hate here ;)

      You don't actually have to wash your hair or body with soups, just using water is all that's necessary, your bodies oils and your body natural chemicals clean your hair naturally, Its actually a proven fact, you don't need chemicals and its better for your hair. After a while there is no smell, your body fights off any smells. Its a method used for thousands of years. There is no negativity behind my reply, I just wanted to let you know.

    It takes white people a long time to grow dreads. To me white people with dreads don't like right, because it's too straight. It's like me a black guy trying to straighten my hair out trying to look like justin bieber hair style, it just doesn't look right lol...people have their own style and they can do whatever they want. but hey thats just my opinion (By the way. 6 months growing dreads and already lock)

      Myth that dreads are dirty and smelly. They have to stay clean to lock better; do you really think greasy hair would hold a knot?

    There are earth friendly soaps out there specifically made for dreadlocks. Oil produced by your scalp builds up in your hair preventing it from knotting. This is probably the cause of the loose hair. But if you're happy with them don't change a thing. Just thought I'd share from experience.

Its just time tho, you have some amazing locks and you are an absolute shiva goddess haha you probably get too much attention for your own good from your hair i bet! I love that you dont wash your hair, i dont either. I actually let my locks start forming in the ganges river an ever since iv let them do their silly thing. Love seein other naughty heads out there.

    Hair actually adapts to not being washed really well, if you actually stopped using shampoo and other hair products your hair will adapt in time and it won't even become greasy. Shampoo is full of chemicals that strip away the natural oil which means the body then starts overproducing more oil wanting to replace them making your hair too oily, if you stop using shampoo your hair goes back to the natural balance. Washing your hair is really just a personal choice.

    If you just left them alone it will be fine take all the beads out and washing hair is necessary for a clean scalp and healthy locks without washing those locks will fall out eventually
