I am 65 years old and I have wanted dreads forever. However, my adult children and adult grandchildren would hate it. I am going for it after watching you. Maybe this old lady will brighten up a bit. Thank you so much!!!!!!
candace Alward I admire your courage, I share the same problem but I keep telling myself your born alone and you die alone so why let some many people influence your decisions in between especially if your not hurting yourself or someone else. I hope you go for it and I wish you much happiness. ✌❤
candace Alward Yes go for it can dace you'll be so glad you did! I'll be 60 in July 2016 and I wish would have started 30 yrs ago but now was the time and don't regret it a bit. By the time of this writing you may have started already and have gorgeous locs. Good luck to you! :)
Go for it!! Go you!!! I get constant ridicule from family and school members for my green locs and i still fucking love them. Never brush your hair for others!!
Cleaning them helps them lock. it puts the static/electricity in which locks your hair. not washing makes your hair oily and lubricates your hair sort of like conditioner which explains the loose hair. the roots will never fully lock considering regrowth.
Additionally, leaving long hair to its own devices by not brushing or cutting the hair will encourage it to tangle together as it grows, leading to twisted, matted ropes of hair known as dreadlocks. The latter method is typically referred to as the neglect, natural, organic, or freeform method.
I remember when the video came out. 8 years, can’t believe. I had dreads too at this time, there where 13 month. You were my inspiration no 1. feeling crazy to come back here ! Thank you, hope you are doing great :)
Caught my girl cheating on me. I was really hurt. So anyways I went onto youtube to find out how to dread my hair because I want to start something new now, and this is what I found. This video for me is a double win. 1) Very informative. This will def. help me with getting the dreads done. 2) There are plenty of other amazing girls out there. ;)
I LOVE the mix of dreadlocks and straight and messy hair. I think this hair is beautiful. Of course it probably has a lot to do with the woman wearing it. Just gorgeous.
There is no certain texture hair needed for dreads, dreads are simply a style for low maintainance purposes to some it looks good to some it looks bad ,move on. Yes, it originated in African roots , but There's no certain color of people that are recommended for a certain hairstyle, everyone can do whatever the f*** they want with their hair. I'm tired of hearing people who say that ,it gets so damn old. Rock those dreads pretty girl , screw all those haters, and be you!
It actually originated from cave men lol and low maintenance is not the case for dreads specially for the first year if anything they're very high maintenance
how is it possible that a human being can be sooo stunning beautiful ??? You "NEED" to make a Vlog ,forget the other stupidos out there, you defenetly will become famous ,i bet my left leg on that ,ahh fck it i bet the right one too :P ...
don't Anna or what your name may be....fame will destroy you....it'll take your innocence and you'll never be the same again.....your talent is worth more than money, the rewards are in life :)
fame aint all that....imagine having a relative that you love but you don't like being in the company of.....imagine that experience all day every day being famous people bugging ya all the time....unless, you regulate it......
It's funny because people are over here talking about "white people don't have the type of hair for locks" ... Yet ... She looks waaaayyy better in them than most of the people that "naturally grow them out" Stop bringing up "religion and culture" and use it against "trend" or "stupid hippie phase". Because I guarantee you half of the rappers that have dreadlocks aren't aiming to reflect culture. Grow tf up. It's 2015 , step out of it.
i could give not one fuck about a certain race i'm the "support all" type of person... but since I offended you by saying to leave her alone ... tie that shoe. aum that's not the proper definition for self hating but sure yeah whatever :D, over here where i live.. i have the respect of every black , white and hispanic person that i know .. why? because I respect them. so go and try to get some one else to give a shit about what you think of them :*
To all the moronic commenters that say that white people cannot physically get dreadlocks, this is simply not at all true. Human hair comes in a variety of different textures and the ability for certain hair types to lock up nicely is by no means limited to one specific 'race', indeed my hair is so frizzy and curly that dreadlocks have been the only way to bring some kind of order to my hair. The question of cultural appropriation is another matter entirely and one which is far too complicated to discuss in a YT comment, suffice to say that so called racial 'differences' are culturally created within the context of the Euro-American society. Black people are not a singular cultural group and to declare that they are is to ignore the vast array of different groups that just so happen to 'black'.
My dreads are 1 year old and I was continuously stressing about my loops and loose roots etc. My dreads are about the same length as yours but mine are black. All natural. Watching your video this morning made me SOOO happy! Your absolutely beautiful and my hair is exactly like yours and with your video I have accepted my dreads more and honestly I feel more beautiful! Thank you so much for your video and you are so amazingly gorgeous!
Beautiful dreads. ..I hate that your telling Others don't have to wash your hair. Your scalp produces oil and dead skin YOUmust still wash. Clean dreads are happy dreads. ..
Dreads are supposed to be washed!!! She is giving out misinformation. She could co-wash them every few days, and only shampoo every once in a while if she didn't want to strip her hair of it's natural oils. But like all hairstyles, dreads need to be washed. I highly doubt she refrains from washing her hair, when she doesn't have it in a locked style. ALSO, she is clearly not twisting them weekly, or on any regular basis. They are not uniform, neat, or in good condition because she did not put them in correctly initially, and she is not twisting them often, and at regular intervals as she should. She should also be putting oil into them when she twists them, to condition them, so that the hair is tidy and healthy. She is a very beautiful girl, so she can get away with a lot. I mean that even as messy, chaotic and ridiculous as they are, she still looks gorgeous. But this makes me upset, because it misrepresents what dreadlocks are meant to be about. I feel frustrated that when people wear them like this, they perpetuate the misinformation that dreads are supposed to be unkempt, dirty and wild--which couldn't be further from the truth. It feels like mockery. Not intentional mockery, but in a way worse than that. A sort of entitled lack of concern as to what it might mean to other people, and how it might affect them and their place in society. Now this girl is clearly, in no way solely responsible for this. But she would be one of a large, and ever growing pool of entitled kids, who lack the empathy to see what the socio-cultural impact of their getting dreads might be in the first place. And that if they decided they truly did want to do it, that compassion should tell them that they should at least seek out help, to find the most respectful way they could go about it.
MissJessyeNorman who they fuck wants neat, uniform dreads? dreadlocks are about rejecting society's expectation of what your hair should look like(at least for some people).
MissJessyeNorman u sound like an intelligent person and when u look at the history of dreadlocks, the intention was very much opposite of your opinion. They were a physical act of separating oneself, a purely spiritual endeavor, so who are you to say how and why a person should wear their locs? It is such a personal journey and for some can be one of vanity (maintaining "perfect" locs) and one as an extension of one's consciousness and identity as to who they are. you don't "correctly them in", you just let them be, train them along the way but I find your comment to be harsh and misrepresenting as well
MissJessyeNorman just to be clear: I've got nothing against people like you who want their dreads too be neat and tidy, but your sentence " it misrepresents what dreadlocks are meant to be about" made me wonder if YOU know what dreadlocks are all about... they've originally had a religious meaning to them and natural dreads are basically all about stopping to comb your hair and basically letting them do whatever they want. I, personally, am not a fan of taking neat 2x2 square portions of your hair in order to make perfectly shaped dreads. Taste varies and it doesn't matter to me what you wanna do with your hair, but telling other people how their dreadlocks HAVE to look like is weird, as dreadlocks (at least to me) are one of the few hairstyles that are meant to look natural... Just saying. no hate here ;)
Shouldn't we all be stocked at the interlocking of culture in today's society, don't be racist, don't claim that a hair style is owned, union and peace is what I thought this revolution was about yo
YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR HAIR. Dirt, dust and any odd things in the environment will LOCK into your dreads, WHICH MAKES THEM SMELL! Buy a dread shampoo or a natural soap! Even AVC washes! Don't listen to her!!
I had dreads and I washed them and they still looked good.. They didn't look as messy because the shampoo made the "baby hair" stick to the dreads so I didn't have to do much of rolling in order to keep them neat
Anna April You hair is so perfect!!! OMG!!!!! I wish more women in the world had dreads. This world will be a way more beautiful place than it is now. It gets boring seeing girls with the same hairstyle everyday. Your hair is PHENOMENAL!!! I LOVE IT!!!
I dont get it.. did I understand that correctly? girll hasnt washed her hair in two years? damn your great genes! My hair looks ten times worse if i dont wash it for two days LOL.. gorgeous girl mashaAllah!
Anna April no offence, but I do have dreadlocks myself and if I don't wash them for a week they do start to smell. And since you said in your video that you do not wash them regularly I think this is a good question of Joel. I really like the look of your dreads by the way! How many have you got?
You don't actually have to wash your hair or body with soups, just using water is all that's necessary, your bodies oils and your body natural chemicals clean your hair naturally, Its actually a proven fact, you don't need chemicals and its better for your hair. After a while there is no smell, your body fights off any smells. Its a method used for thousands of years. There is no negativity behind my reply, I just wanted to let you know.
It takes white people a long time to grow dreads. To me white people with dreads don't like right, because it's too straight. It's like me a black guy trying to straighten my hair out trying to look like justin bieber hair style, it just doesn't look right lol...people have their own style and they can do whatever they want. but hey thats just my opinion (By the way. 6 months growing dreads and already lock)
You may get it all the time but your beauty is astonishing! I just got my dreadlocks two days ago..and I am happy and worried I hope they turn our ok..Best wishes, Monica
There are earth friendly soaps out there specifically made for dreadlocks. Oil produced by your scalp builds up in your hair preventing it from knotting. This is probably the cause of the loose hair. But if you're happy with them don't change a thing. Just thought I'd share from experience.
Oh my god. you are so beautiful :o I really stared at you during the video like if I was crazy :D actually I don't like dreads but you look so beautiful *-* amazing!
you can have dreads with any type of hair . i personally felt in love with you when you released your dreads 😗😍. diffrent hair diffrent dreads . its all shifting of technique and style from hairtype to hairtype.
Yayyy, awesome! Congrats! I cut mine a while ago for personal reasons (too much to explain in a YT comment) but I cannot wait till my next set already! Good luck! You can always ask me, or people on DT, for help and info! :P
Im gonna be honest ms. Anna April, after 22 years, iv never once made a comment on a youtube video. Its just time tho, you have some amazing locks and you are an absolute shiva goddess haha you probably get too much attention for your own good from your hair i bet! I love that you dont wash your hair, i dont either. I actually let my locks start forming in the ganges river an ever since iv let them do their silly thing. Love seein other naughty heads out there.
Hair actually adapts to not being washed really well, if you actually stopped using shampoo and other hair products your hair will adapt in time and it won't even become greasy. Shampoo is full of chemicals that strip away the natural oil which means the body then starts overproducing more oil wanting to replace them making your hair too oily, if you stop using shampoo your hair goes back to the natural balance. Washing your hair is really just a personal choice.
If you just left them alone it will be fine take all the beads out and washing hair is necessary for a clean scalp and healthy locks without washing those locks will fall out eventually
I am 65 years old and I have wanted dreads forever. However, my adult children and adult grandchildren would hate it. I am going for it after watching you. Maybe this old lady will brighten up a bit. Thank you so much!!!!!!

Let her do what she wants. It is not dangerous to not keep her dreads tidy all the time. Pfft.

this video was a big inspiration for me to get locks, my dreads are 11 years old now and 100% natural locks. Thank you!
I follow her on Instagram and she’s just as beautiful ! And has a beautiful family !!! 💗💗 she almost made me get dreadlocks also back in the day 😭
Sorry if this is creepy, but you're very pretty. =)
Shouldn't we all be stocked at the interlocking of culture in today's society, don't be racist, don't claim that a hair style is owned, union and peace is what I thought this revolution was about yo
so true ♥
loooove it ,beautiful hair, beautiful face :)
girl you are aaaaaaaaaaaaawesome. dreadlocks make you look so wild and cute at the same time. definitely cool dreadlocks!
YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR HAIR. Dirt, dust and any odd things in the environment will LOCK into your dreads, WHICH MAKES THEM SMELL! Buy a dread shampoo or a natural soap! Even AVC washes! Don't listen to her!!
still, shes got the best dreadlocks ever.. it looks much much better than your hair . haha
I had dreads and I washed them and they still looked good.. They didn't look as messy because the shampoo made the "baby hair" stick to the dreads so I didn't have to do much of rolling in order to keep them neat
what a pretty way
These are lovely...My hair is 2.5 feet currently,So Im taking my time..but this is a lovely goal to have a similar style!!!
You are incredibly cute 😁
lunch Ayyyeee it's me! 😂
Your dreads are the neatest free forms (if that makes since)I've seen on RUclips so far
you should be a model
Yup
yes, but i think she don't want.
Ignore the stupid comments I love your hair 😍😍
you look beautiful !!
You're absolutely beautiful :) Liked. Subscribed.
I dont get it.. did I understand that correctly? girll hasnt washed her hair in two years? damn your great genes! My hair looks ten times worse if i dont wash it for two days LOL.. gorgeous girl mashaAllah!
After a month your hair won't start to get greasy or smelly but only if you comb it.
You are beyond stunning
She looks REALLY BEAUTIFUL, the dreadlocks compliment her face and shes got a really exotic cute look, keep it up!
Beautiful young lady. Should be a model. An modeling agency might sign her right away.
Are You from Denmark? I Think You have a accent:)
Tis Fis Esse I am
Anna April me too
Does it not stink and itch??
Sweat and dirt makes it do that otherwise you will jus get some greese on it but that's kinda like how you have wax to protect your ear
Do you really think people would wear this style if it stunk and itched?
you look so different from what im use to seeing , I think thats why I deeply love your look and style. so beautiful
you are the most beautiful girl on youtube! :O
You are so beautiful!
You're gorgeous.
That's really fantastic, hair just completely adapts to it and you must save so much time not having to use products. :)
You Look So Beatiful . . . .
You are the most beautiful girl i have ever seen. I like your video.
Do they smell?
Joel Swartzell Do you seriously think I'd keep them and walk around with smelly hair if they did?
+Rasta wolves don't believe everything you read on the Internet
I know what I'm talking about, its years of research. I actually know what I'm talking about. So kindly back the hell off.
you are so pretty! I also love all your peircings and your hair! omg!
First of all you are beautiful but I am just so confused why white people are doing dreadlocks now... I like it tho
Yeah me too especially when they look gross Like that...
Hahaha, white people have had dreadlocks for thousands of years.
ouncy Lol ikr these dumbasses act like it wasn't common a few thousand years back to have hair like that
I did when I got really into Rob Zombie
Same reason black people have dreads
Those dreads don't look like they were done well.
it calls natural/Free form/neglect methode. It is not done by someone.
Yeah I'm white but my hair can lock in a few months:) guess it depends on hair type :))
Few months? It took me 1 month to lock? Well you know. I'm black and my hair is naturally curly and shit. LOL12345751
So pretty! Dreadlocks really suit you C:
i wish you would wash your hair because i bet it smells right now considering you also sweats in your hair
......that is just nasty really
if you never use shampoo it's okay
Every body has different hair texture. She eats clean and has a healthy body. Some people don't sweat at all or it dosn't stink.
lucy liberal You right, white women just nasty period, That's why I never dated one.
When I got dreadlocks my scalp didn't product sebum anyway, it was just dry all the time but locks need to be washed of course
Myth that dreads are dirty and smelly. They have to stay clean to lock better; do you really think greasy hair would hold a knot?
This looks so fucking bad.
I love the way her hair looks. I think it looks so bad ass & just like really pretty. I like how they're messy too.
I could never pull of dreads but yours are amazing!
It’s preference, but I wash my locs. I admit not as much as I use to but I still wash my hair because it DOES get dirty!
Soooo beautiful! Love your hair. Falls perfectly and looks awesome and very natural. Congratulations!
You may get it all the time but your beauty is astonishing! I just got my dreadlocks two days ago..and I am happy and worried I hope they turn our ok..Best wishes, Monica
She’s so perfect. That’s that mate! Such cuteness.
wow, she looks like a super model! she is so beautiful!
There are earth friendly soaps out there specifically made for dreadlocks. Oil produced by your scalp builds up in your hair preventing it from knotting. This is probably the cause of the loose hair. But if you're happy with them don't change a thing. Just thought I'd share from experience.
You are so cute! :) Dreads looks so good on you!!
Omg. You are gorgeous and your dreads are amazing. Subscribed.

The little colorful beads look great on you :)
So attractive 😻
gosh these are so beautiful!
A person as beautiful as she is can literally pull anything off...including not washing hair for two years
you're so cute! I'm actually smiling behind my laptop while watching your videos (:
Hair actually adapts to not being washed really well, if you actually stopped using shampoo and other hair products your hair will adapt in time and it won't even become greasy. Shampoo is full of chemicals that strip away the natural oil which means the body then starts overproducing more oil wanting to replace them making your hair too oily, if you stop using shampoo your hair goes back to the natural balance. Washing your hair is really just a personal choice.
She’s so gorgeous✨
If you just left them alone it will be fine take all the beads out and washing hair is necessary for a clean scalp and healthy locks without washing those locks will fall out eventually
I’m a little over two months in and mine are super lumpy like yours! I don’t roll them either I’m all for letting them do what they do ^_^
