Not good. Got alot of sideshow Bob jokes and comments on how beautiful my hair used to be. Whatever. I noticed that most ppl don't know that dreads take awhile to look good.
I just did mine yesterday. My dad asked what I was doing to my hair. I told him dreading it. He said, "oh lord." But for the most part nothing about my hair surprises him because when I was a teen I had a Mohawk.
Hi Sarah I'm 55yrs old and I have had my locs for 3wks. I'm going in for maintenance in a week. I have real hair extensions made into dreads and attached . I'm so happy I finally did this ! I had long hair most of my life. After cutting it shorter and shaving it, I grew it out to my shoulders. I had this professionally done for my birthday. I have enjoyed watching your videos . Thank you
How is ur dread journey going. Im 60 jrs totdat. I have my Hair almost Ad schouder lenght. Getting partail dreads with extensions 40 cm. To try dreads. Already thinking that maybe i have to do all of my Hair. 🙂
U don’t need maintaince at 3 weeks…….just patience my friend :) They tell u that u need this that n the other. It’s a bunch of BS,just want u to hand over $$$$
I started my love two months ago, and was worrying that they weren't locking properly. I'm glad I found this video because they are pretty much on track! I still have a few that just won't lock however. The shorter ones are stubborn!
Oh my gosh!! I just started my loc journey, coming up 3 weeks ago on Thursday the 3rd and I have so many questions about the process! Like you, I researched a long time before finally deciding to do it :) the loose baby hairs on top of my head and around the back of my neck worries me because I'm worried my hair isn't locking :( this video made me feel better about them!!
Dreadlocks, also known as locs, are a hairstyle that can be created by either manually twisting hair or allowing it to mat naturally without combing. However, there are some differences between the two: Cultivation: Locs are cultivated, while dreadlocks are not. Appearance: Locs are generally tidier and more well-kept than dreadlocks, which can have a more natural look. Locs also have more defined roots than dreadlocks. Origin: Dreadlocks originated with a group of followers who called themselves "Dreads" and grew matted locks of hair to emulate Hindu and Nazarite holymen. The style can also have religious significance for some Hindus, who call it "jata" or "twisted hair" and view it as a symbol of lack of vanity. Dreadlocks can also have ties to Rastafarian beliefs, which use the style to separate believers from the rest of society.
Essential oils like tea tree helps the itch. And you dont even neccesarily have to get maintenance done often you can back comb the ends and palm roll them everyday. Palm rolling is super important especially on naturally straight hair.
they're falling apart because they're new dreadlocks and thats what they're supposed to do when they're new. let them do their thing, they will lock up on their own after u get past the awkward initial stage. if you maintain them you prevent them from truly locking up and the only way they will stay that way is with more and more maintenance or if your hair is extremely coarse and curly. so unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that your body can do by itself if you give it enough time, or if you cant stand the sight of any loose hair, then there's no reason to do it
I've had mine for 8 months. Yeah, you might want maintenance in a couple months--you don't have to, and your hair will still dread up even if you don't, but I found that maintenance made my head feel much more comfortable. The loose hair wasn't horrible, but I was shocked how much more comfortable it was when my hair wasn't tangling and pulling at my scalp. Not to mention the fact that I don't have to separate as often now 😂. I'll keep an eye out for you in the group 😊
Jface does stuff that's interesting. I just checked out your 7-month video and your dreads look so good! I hope mine look like that. I haven't thought my loose hair as uncomfortable but, you're right, that hairs are pulled when I run my fingers through two separate or palm roll. My dread stylist taught me a technique to pull on the dreads to try to minimize loops. Have you heard of this?
Sarah Thornburg yeah, I've heard you can stretch them to minimize loops. I've never done it, though. The few loops I've gotten, I've loved and wanted to keep. 😂 I just love the character!
I'm so excitedddd. Have been looking into extensions vs my own hair and have decided to have my own done. I was worried I'd lose alot of length but it's about the same as yours so my mind is made up. Thanks!
I think you are supposed to at least be palm rolling each individual dread when you can to prevent all those hairs from falling out. I only have dread extensions so I might not know best, but I think you definitely need to be doing something. Or go to someone who crochet hooks dreads, that will make for a nicer look.
That's so awesome. My family has been curious about it and my mom has asked me many time when I plan to remove them. haha. It's all good. After three years, I think they have got used to me with them.
If you payed to get your hair crocheted they DEFINITELY should not be coming out like they are, crocheting is supposed to mature your dreads instantly the loctitian did not do what they were suppose too
I am a week into my own dread journey, I did give in and wash them once, to get that itch done. theyre so fuzzy right now, but palm rolling is helping, and I'm waiting for my hooks to come in
was so nice to see yours ( this is my 2nd time around and I'm currently at 2 week old dreadies) and so much motivation seeing I'm not the only one who has to deal with this ^_^
I have really fine long hair and it just tangles all the time Its always flat looking do you think that if i got dreads it would thicken up the look of my hair ? Love how yours are looking
Yes, I do think it would make your hair look thinker. You know longer shed hair with dreadlocks so all those extra hairs get stuck in your locks and make you hair look fuller. I hope that makes sense. I just posted a one-year update video. Check it out. ruclips.net/video/vxgchwVcKag/видео.html
Showing this to my 5 year old daughter who’s not combing her hair for weeks at a time so her hair is always in this “about dreadlocks” looking stage so I offer her the solution 😆
i realy like how your hair is so wispy looking it looks uniqu and cool i just did 2 my moms spos to help me with the rest when she gets back in a few days but the 2 i have are very frizzy looking and loose for now the wispy tips have a curl and a half tho do to my hair is kinda a wavy curly type i think it makes it uniqu wich i like
Hey i just started dreads myself! Been watching lazydreads on tips and such but i liked watching the updates on yours. This hows been four months ago since the update anyway i can see where they are at now?
Hey! I just posted a new video of my first maintenance and the weeks leading up to 3-month update. ruclips.net/video/Rvda0CFWGPA/видео.html How are your dreads looking? I include more recent updates on my IG page. Cheers!
Now that you will be washing less your head is itching because it's acclamating to less washing, use essential oils on ONLY your scalpto stop the itching. I prefer tea tree oil
They change alot those first few months. I don't think anyone could tell I had dreadlocks for at least a year. haha. I don't think these are "instant dreads."
@@SarahThornburg the reason I say that is right here 0:18 you say something along the lines of “3 days after I had them started” and they actually looked somewhat like dreadlocks
im on my second day i made my more locked at the ends cause im too scared of them coming loose i have my back and sides shaved and i kept my 4 or 5 inches of hair on the top i had bangs and everything but i wanted dreads for the experience idk why the work employers dont hire people like us cause its actually hard to take care of
Melony I wash with a tea tree shampoo made by Jason brand. I've been using it for years. Even before getting my dreads started. Although it's not a "dreadlock shampoo" I think it does a good job. No residue. What do you use?
There are a few readily available ones. Trader Joe's Tea tree Tingle, Allafia African Black Soap in Peppermint, California Baby Tea tree Lavender. The reason I asked is because so much of your hair has become loose. You may just have very silky hair and need something more drying to prevent any slip.
Melony Thanks! Yeah, straight is tough to dread. I didn't know Trader Joe's had tea tree shampoo. I remember trying the peppermint before I switched to Jason's.
Looks great! Loose hair is normal and I'm so glad you don't seem worried about it. 😊 Mine have loosened and then locked and loosened again--its fun to watch the process! You should check out the dreadlocktruth FB group--lots of cool info and really nice people there. I'm looking forward to more updates! 💜
Jface does stuff how long have you had your dreads? I love seeing the changes. Loose hair is part of the process so I'm going with it for now. I'll probably go back for some maintenance in a couple months though.
If you have dreads or have had dreads, please tell me what was the reaction of your family and friends. I'd love to know!
Not good. Got alot of sideshow Bob jokes and comments on how beautiful my hair used to be. Whatever. I noticed that most ppl don't know that dreads take awhile to look good.
That is the truth! I feel like most people know very little about dreadlocks.
I just did mine yesterday. My dad asked what I was doing to my hair. I told him dreading it.
He said, "oh lord."
But for the most part nothing about my hair surprises him because when I was a teen I had a Mohawk.
Only two people I know didn't like them the rest love them
I’ve had individual braids before so my family and friends can’t tell my dreads are dreads and not braids 😂. We’ll see once they more mature
I come here when I lose patience and need motivation to trust the process. Thank you!!
Thank you for this! I recently got dreads and was nervous about all my loose hair ❤️

They form nicer when theyre clean washing your dreads is good for them dirty hair is harder to knot up
i just wanred to say that. if you dont wash often then they become too greasy and slippery

i would have gone to the lady and had her make them more pretty with a hook after the first wash or palm rolled them
Did you get instant dreads because I’m a week in and mine look like more like twists

Backcomb and crochet. My first video on my channel shows the process.
