    Girl you earned your locks the hard way! I'm guessing you weren't offered back brush AND crochet method, as that would have given you almost instant locks looking more mature right off the bat. You earned the right to ware that smile! Congratulations!

    I just hit my one year mark 2 months ago. You are so right when you say the first year is the hardest. I too am having a tough time being patient with growth, but im just going to ride the wave. I hope my dreads look as dope as yours in 2 more year! ❤

      Why did they get fatter? I’m worried if I do them that mine will be too skinny. Maybe there’s hope and I should just go for it but I need to understand the growth of them. Did you add anything to them to make them bigger?

    Your locks look amazing! I watched your early videos and the transitions. I just started my "Journey". My locks/dreads are literally 3 Days old! I had butt length hair to begin with. My issue is with all the wispy ends. Some of mine are 8-10 inches long. Just the loose ends. I have a whopping 38 baby dreads as my hair is pretty thick to begin with. I am lucky enough that I can already do a Dread Bun and I feel it will be a go to style. I have a toddler and a 6 month old Grandsons that I watch during the week and no way can I wear it down. My locks were started with the back comb/crochet process and I am so looking forward to watching them mature. I did have some synthetic extensions added at my initial appointment but they were just TOO MUCH! There was so much that when I tried a Bun, it looked like I had 20 year old dreads. CRAZY! I took all of them out but 1. They were the SE and looped on at the roots, so super easy to remove and I can add them back if I want. I felt the need to get to know each of my babies and have been palm rolling all of them each night.
    Thank You for sharing your experiences and journey. I am so inspired by your Beautiful locks. Thank You so much.
    PS...I am starting this at 58 years old. It's a Bucket list kinda thing for Me. I am disabled by my health issues so no longer have to conform to a Job and work place environment. My job now is helping raise my Grandchildren, hence, PERFECT TIMING! I will look forward to future information from you and again; THANK YOU!!!

    • @Immortal-hq7vx
      @Immortal-hq7vx 3 года назад +1

      @@SarahThornburg im loving my freeform way better than my instant locks.. first, i think loose hairs looks much better on my freeform compared to my instant locks. the shaft is already messy, and it kinda blend with it. second, no need to pay expensive and suffer painful maintenance. though I dont have any regrets getting instant dreads as my first set of locks. Trying different options is a nice experience to remember.

    My babies are new. I had them done in may. I have extensions that originally had the loose ends but I blunted them so now they are just past my shoulders.
    Buns are semi impossible right now due to the lengths & thickness so I did the headband thing for the last month to hold down the new growth but I'm over it! I'm embracing the halo & just going with it. I'll probably find somewhere to go for maintenance in another month or 2.

    • @SarahThornburg
      @SarahThornburg  3 года назад

      That's so great you're embracing the halo. I wish I had the courage to do that. I get these long pieces right at the front of my hair that I think look terrible. I've considered using hair spray to hold the frizz at bay but haven't tried that yet. I think it could look ok.

    • @lara-hall
      @lara-hall 3 года назад +1

      @@SarahThornburg I pulled in some loops & bumps last night & I don't know how but it took down the halo a little bit🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe it was just from touching it so much.
      Embrace it! It's freeing! 🥰

    • @SarahThornburg
      @SarahThornburg  3 года назад +1

      Wow, your hair is long. I have a video on my channel of my hair before it was dreaded and the entire dreadlock starting process. My hair is naturally straight. No natural volume or wave pattern. Curls never stayed in for too long. It is possible to dread straight hair and with your length, the shrinkage probably won't be too bad. Good luck!

    • @SarahThornburg
      @SarahThornburg  3 года назад +1

      It's not a bad idea to cover your hair while sleeping those first few days. Also, I would wait as long as possible to shower. Mine itched so bad so I couldn't wait too long but the longer you wait the better. If your hair is oily definitely shower. Clean hair locs faster than oily hair. Good luck!

      @SarahThornburg  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Melissa! Congrats on 1.5 years. I bet they are starting to look good. Do you think you'll keep the extensions long term? I touch my hair everyday and I was worried the extensions would feel different and I wouldn't like them. What's your experience? Yes, I do some...honestly very little...maintenance on my own. I separate them regularly since the ones in the middle and back of my head want to grow together with so much loose hair. I have also crocheted some of the ends. I want to have all blunt end someday.

      @@SarahThornburg I don't plan to have them forever, I just want them to be long. Lol. As soon as they are long enough I will cut off the extensions and blunt the tips. I like both loose and blunted tips so figured I'd do blunted when they are long enough. My hair was to middle of my back before dreads, I have very fine hair, they shrunk up to past my jaw! That's why I added extensions, and yes they are a different texture and width from my real hair but nobody can tell but me. You'd have to be real dread snob to tell 🤭
