    • @zachariahpictures
      @zachariahpictures 3 года назад +550

      Or they were supplied to Andrew's imagination from the mannequins in the museum. Those mannequins were faceless but dressed in the Puritan attire, too. While this might also be a metaphor for how Andrew perceives people, I think it might have been supplied by the museum, which he would have known and probably seen as a kid in Little Hope.
      And the fact that his family died in the same manner as some of the Witch Trial victims likely caused the Witch Trial hallucinations.

    Although the game doesn't explain it, my interpretation of the evil entity with Megan is this: the mum makes a point of saying Megan keeps being held back by a priest called Carver - I think he was sexually abusing her and she ended up lashing out at her family for not seeing it. The demon was her inner demon.
    This is why in the past Mary is used by the priest and has a secret she shares with him.
    Saving Mary from the priest is symbolic of Anthony putting the fire blame on the real life priest rather than Megan.

    • @gw1058
      @gw1058 3 года назад +302

      I am unsure of Megan. I believe she was most likely abused by Carver and carried that demon with her. Clue #50 on the grid shows that the key Megan "used" to lock doors was still in the clock and never removed at the time of the fire. I don't believe she locked the doors as the house was old and it was freezing and shifting.

    So apparently most people don’t understand why the rest of the “characters” randomly die by the hands of their demons.
    Well it’s because they were killed by their metaphorical demons.
    When the ghouls execute each of their counterparts, there’s multiple negative traits that appear in their eyes. Throughout the course of the game, every decision and dialogue is related to one of two traits: a negative and a positive. If you select the same negative trait choice multiple times, then you lock that trait into their character, hence the demons.
    What’s even more poetic is that these were all traits that Daniel saw in his family and related them into the personas that he experienced. This is a really sad story about a schizophrenic man who’s still traumatized about his past in which he believes he either: condemned his whole family to death or helped push his sister to murder everyone. And judging by his demeanor at the end, he is slowly remembering that he isn’t an 18 year old college student. He’s alone.

Anthony was the bus driver, he has a severe mental disorder due to guilt and grief that is exacerbated by being redirected through his home town, and his feelings manifested in two storylines: the college kids and the witch trials (probably learned about in his education). Nobody and nothing in the story actually exists in the reality of the game except Anthony, Vince, and the cop.

      It actually does matter, not in the way you think it had less to do with the characters dying. More to do with Andrew, based on if he forgives himself or continues to blame himself or what happened to his family. And considering that Andrew can commit suicide in this games it's safe to say that yes, it didn't matter for those characters but most of those choices affect Andrew. May not be the thing you wanted but the choices do have impact.

    Hi! so I just responded to a message explaining the conquering of the demons, and thought I’d put it on here as it’s own comment so In the game each character has to conquer their own demon. The hint is basically the “Bearings.” For “Team Taylor” Taylor must feel as if she is a part of the group, and then at the end of the game she has to tell whoever is trying to help her (Probably Daniel) to save themselves she has to face her own demon in the end. For Daniel his Bearing is “Home Grown Hero.” He has to do heroic actions like attacking his demon with a knife, saving Taylor etc. Then at the end he has to tell Andrew to save himself since once again Daniel has to face his own demon in the end. John’s Bearing is “Authority Figure.” He needs to be the leader and a role model to the group, and once again in the end he has to reject offers of help from Andrew. Angela’s confused me a little bit, but I think I get it. Hers is “Deeper Understanding.” She has to question everything. Be intrigued by her double, but she also has to understand the group’s emotions. Feel sympathy towards them, in the end she shouldn’t ditch John. Stick with him and stand against the demons. Last but not least Andrew. This ones easy. Just help him set Mary free. Condemn the priest the true evil. If you condemn Mary everyone will die no matter what. I haven’t tested the doll, and I know that if you condemn the priest everyone who conquered their demons will be safe. If a character failed to conquer their demon they will die no matter what.
    Short Version:
    1. Daniel has to be heroic.
    2. Angela has to be understanding.
    3. Taylor has to be apart of the group.
    4. John has to be the authority figure.
    And in the end you must choose the “Heroic” choice rather than “Fearful.”
    Hope this helps.
    Oh yeah also I forgot about Vince. Just be nice to him and don’t shoot near him.
    Edit: Oh also one more thing I don’t think this is the best ending. One of the replies @Robyn Zero explains what I think is the best ending. I 100% think agree with them.

      There is also another possible ending, which is a secret one, but can be also considered a 'bad' one: to obtain it, Anthony should have a gun and pick every right choice with Vince so he forgives him and he doesn't end up in prison. Also, everyone has to die for it to unlock, and you should burn the doll instead of fucking the priest over, so I think you shouldn't let the characters conquer their demons, and as you said they'll die regardless in the end... thus re-enacting within the historical setting what actually happened to Andrew when the house burned down. To me, this sad ending is surprisingly fitting and ends up 'healing' Anthony anyway, because it's as if he accepts that he could do nothing to save his family and gets rid of his guilt, also accepting that they were flawed but that he loved them regardless. Most importantly, he gets to help and tell Mary/Meghan that he cared about her and that he understands what she felt and went through. When his guilt is too much and he's about to shoot himself like in the suicide ending, Mary/Meghan's memory hugs him and stops him. IMHO among all bad endings, this is by far the best one (also moving).

      Alright, so this is the story: Megan, his little sister started the fire. She felt misunderstood, failed at school and obviously struggled with mental illness. She kept lashing out because of those reasons, and that's why her parents disciplined her in a rough manner (as you can see in the book found in the ruined house). They sought help from a priest (you know which one) but he only made matters worse as he was practicing occult/dark magick and it's implied he m*lested her. Megan, tormented by her inner demons (the demon you saw at the start) planned to kill her whole family. And did so. Not Anthony.
      After the events, Anthony does suffer from severe PTSD, amnesia, trauma etc. To make matters worse, he was arrested and people thought it was his fault. So he goes back to his hometown, Little Hope, after crashing the bus and suffers from schizophrenia there where he imagines his deceased family members and gives them new names. He finds ways to blame people. That's what the witch trials represents. He starts with his mother, Anne (Angela), then Taylor, Daniel and eventually John, who all face their demons who represent how they died (Daniel's demons have spikes, he dies through impalement, Taylor's demon represents hanging or burning, depending on how you made her die at the start etc.) They all turn out to be innocent and wrongfully died for no reason. Until the story ends with Megan (Mary) who was the actual culprit and Anthony has the choice of either blaming her (burning her at the stake) or the priest. If you blame her, Mary will once again lash out, saying no one understands her and Anthony is just like the rest. If you blame the priest, Anthony knows he is the one who caused Megan to actually do what she did.

      It was Anthony's dream and his point of view of the matters. The truth is that Meghan was abused by Carver just like Mary. Anne says that the reverend had held her back for a long time after church hours on Sundays. Meghan was not bad at all it was just how Anthony thought it was. The demon behind her was also on Anthony's imagination. He was the one who lit the fire and he might have pushed the blame on to his sister because he felt guilty. The doors of their house were faulty at the start they jammed due to the snow. So, Tanya got locked out like that, we see that Daniel's ladder shakes by itself not because of Meghan and the mom could have just locked herself in the bathroom. Now, after all these years Anthony wants to do justice to his sister cause he feels that she might not be the reaosn why it all happened and he understands that the reverend was the true evil. He connects his personal story to the witch trial because we know that Little hope is a place known for that and he was also reading a book about witch trials at the beginning. The curator had pointed out so many times that our own demons are inside us. It was the biggest hint of the whole game.

  • @tannerbates8652

    From what I can gather, none of the prologue is a hallucination. That would mean Megan was genuinely communing with a demonic entity due to her feelings of isolation, and that led her to start the fire. And that Vince does have a genuine interest in the occult (and his Sun medallion ties into Anthony's hallucinations, since they're all warped from reality).
    And honestly? I think that makes the "so he was actually crazy" twist MORE brilliant. In Until Dawn, the plot is kicked off by a genuinely mentally ill person's plans of vengeance, only to be subverted by actual supernatural monsters. That would make this story a brilliant reversal: the supernatural element is real but basically has no role in the main plot, instead being subverted by an unwell man's survivor's guilt.

      I think the prologue was from Anthony's perspective, he says to the other characters in the beginning he had a weird dream, that's why we see Megan seemingly be influenced by some otherworldly spirits. There was a lot of supernatural literature in the family home, which Anthony uses as an excuse in his psyche as the reason the house burnt down with his family, I don't think he fully accepted it and was in the full stages of denial/trauma/ptsd. It reminded of the film Shutter Island in a way.

    It made me shiver, him knowing that they love him even after they died, him being real with his guilt and his sadness to know that he misses them (not being toxic positive, or depressive), and that they dont blame him is something I resonated a lot with.

    One thing I learned about these devs is they just like psychological warfare. In Until Dawn it’s about (I forget his name) but the guy who’s sisters were killed and he’s suffering from ptsd & schizophrenia (I forget if it’s both or just one, it was a long time ago) and he starts to blame himself for his sisters’ deaths. In man of Medan, everyone is going crazy cause of the gas/chemical and think there’s actual treasure but they end up getting killed (or not) because they start hallucinating. And in this one, it’s all about Andrew/Anthony and his ptsd after thinking he’s the cause of his family’s deaths

    • @sunnywhite196
      @sunnywhite196 3 года назад +19

      Yeah, but at least in Until Dawn, there actually WAS an element of the supernatural and it wasn't a bait and switch for mental issues. I mean, it's clever, don't get me wrong, but after this second one it's a sure bet that the last one will have a mundane explanation for all the spooky stuff happening. Kinda kills the suspense if you know that events are someone's hallucinations.

      @Trajan the Great I think all of the Dark Pictures Anthology are going to be in the same vein. Something psychology based that can explain the spooky supernatural stuff as mundane and easily explainable, if no less horrible. Now that we know what to expect from the last couple of games, all we have to figure out is how they're going to explain it away as "it's all in your head" in the next....six games or so? So it's not like we won't have any mystery to solve. We'll just know that the horror isn't going to be anything supernatural.

    I had so many theories throughout this story; timelines of past multiverse, present multiverse and future multiverse merging. Little Hope being purgatory, and the doppelganger monsters being their demons coming for them to bring them to hell and Andrew being their guardian angel. But I do like the ending we got, that it's Anthony suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and developing DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), to cope with his past trauma of losing his family in a fire, and his mind creating a different reality. Late response, but I think Vincent will act differently towards Andrew/Anthony based on you act towards him. Dialogue choices and if you acquire a gun and shoot at a monster behind him he thinks you are trying to kill him. If you don't do those and have 'good' dialogue with him then he will be nicer to him. And get the good/best ending. People accused Andrew/Anthony of the fire because he had matches and was outside so at face value it looks like he did it. He also told Tanya to either go down the drainpipe or go back inside the house, which someone would argue he killed her when both options were kind of bad. And that Andrew/Anthony was really trying to save her. Plus a lot of people want to blame someone when something bad happens, but sometimes accidents happen it's not something that brings everyone comfort.

    Okay, I'm going to present a pretty dumb theory that may be wrong, but also wouldn't invalidate the idea of saving everyone. (As well as provide an explanation for moments where the party split up).
    I think there actually WAS a supernatural component to the story. I only just finished the game (incidentally, the other survivors in my playthrough were John and Angela), so I may be remembering a few things wrong.
    Near the beginning, one of the characters (I think it was Daniel) presented the idea that they were all already dead. In addition, during his monologue at the end, the Curator said "some found redemption, some didn't". I also can't help but suspect that there was significance to Andrew/Anthony hearing the whispers of the other characters in the end.
    Part of me suspects that we were in fact playing as the souls of the people who died in the fire that burned down the Clarke household. Their "survival" means they have overcome their flaws and can pass on peacefully, whereas their "deaths" means they have succumbed to their flaws and thus have been condemned to hell.
    I may be wrong. Maybe it really is just one big hallucination. But there are a few plot holes here and there, and this theory of mine does present an explanation...

      @brandontrush6276 3 года назад +40

      I agree with this!! The Curator even says that if they do die, they're condemned to a fate "worse than death." I think that whether or not they get out of the house is representative of whether or not they remain trapped in Little Hope forever!

    • @4ainka1
      @4ainka1 3 года назад +24

      That's what I thought! I was pretty sure that these incarnations happened for real because all these characters in their first life died horribly and before dying they deeply hated Marry, as she accused them in witchcraft, so their soles became restless full of hatred for that girl, that's why in next incarnation they still hated her inside and blamed if opportunity given, aside from Andrew, he was kind to her, because he never died in previous life because of her. So I really thought that driver Andrew without knowing delivered their soules to Little hope so that they could go through trials and forgive Merry. That actually sounds so much better than...what we got....I mean, now it really does seems that Andrew came up with all that shit in his head, take an asian judge for example....that's basically the dude who accused him of burning his family in prologue >___

Maybe this urban stories was telling by his dad or mom when Anthony is a child... maybe ... and he believe with that ... It explains why we seen Old Century , Another Version Of His Famillies and Ghost... But this thing is never existed (Only in his mind)
    Andrew , John , Angela , Daniel and Taylor is another version of his imagination ... He want to create another version of his family then he mixed in his imagination about past so he feels never be alone again (and Old Century that he imagine ... Of Course)
    And In The End... Anthony realized that he wasnt accept for his own Family being dead by the tragic accident in the past...At Last , now he back to the reality and he realized that The Past cannot be changed ... Its sad story ...
