“I was a lonely, shy person” - and look at you now, live streaming in front of a bunch of strangers, teaching us about bag making and interesting fabrics, and sharing your history. Amazing!
I really enjoyed watching a video of sewing, no tutorial, no edits. It’s nice to see you have the same struggles we have when doing those bee bags 😂 I am all for more of this type of video content!
Hi Jessica, I am so happy and proud of you for mastering your Industrial. I want you to know that it's because of you that I caught the bug and started bag making. You are an excellent teacher and I've learned a lot from you. When I watched your very first time on your Juki DNU 1541S, I had it in my mind to buy it in the future. I ended up buying a used Juki DNU 1541 ( not an S). I changed the servo motor to where it sews super slow and that works for me. Anyway to me, you're a WINNER!!! Thank you for showing me a new passion!
I’ve found that most of my favorite people, online and IRL, have seen themselves as weird or ‘losers’ at some point in their lives. Myself included. I think it’s part of the journey of an introspective person. But we all eventually find our people, online and/or IRL. 😀 Your honesty and enthusiasm is what makes your videos so engaging. ☺️ Please keep talking and teaching!
Tbh you inspired me to try to make a bag. It was actually your tutorial making the small Amelia envelope wallet by miss freckles. I watched your video twice and I cannot explain it because It became an obsession so I got the pattern, materials and followed your instructions and it was a success! I’ve made several and many other bags since. I am hoping for an industrial machine one day but I just want to say you are inspiring. I also went to “Juvie”as a kid and it was because of running away from abuse at home. I agree that most kids are lonely and lost and there are no bad kids because it is true, they have not lived long enough. I did not get good grades and still struggle with self doubt but you did give me the confidence to try making that cute little wallet. It might seem like a little thing to some people but it means so much to me. THANK YOU Jess 🙏 coolest loser ever. Side note…fail is an acronym for first attempt in learning.
Jess, proud of you taking “Beastie” out of the corner and started to use it. I remember when you first and second time you used it and the trouble it caused. Jess, it’s understandable you’d want to cut down on bag making videos BUT if you venture out into other different hobbies - take us with you. Even if just for a little while, I’d like to see you quilt, or crochet. Have a blessed day!
So happy to hear you’re planning more quilting videos. My 1st ever quilt was your ‘block party’ and I love it so much! I also miss your embroidery videos and loved this chatty style industrial format
As a lawyer who has worked in a county jail facility, I can agree with you. The difference between your story and so many others is that so many others don’t come from good, supportive families, or they, and their parents (when present) are mired in addiction and alcoholism. Those kids don’t have the support and the examples set for them to get and stay on the straight and narrow. I’m very glad you were able to move on from that and make good choices. What you do, if you know it or not, has impacted so many, myself included. It was your tote bag video that I just happened to see at the start of the pandemic, which lead me to decide, despite never having seen anything in my life, to learn to make handbags. Now I sell them for hundreds of dollars to people all over the world. For that I owe you many thanks.
Jess you are such an inspiration to me. I started making bags because of your videos. I've also ventured into the industrial machine world with many of the same fears and hesitations. I'd love to see you sew with leather in some future tutorials. Thank you for all you've taught me!
🙌🏽 yes please more industrial bag making videos! Love all of your videos and I’m still learning to sew but splurged on the Juki Du 1181n… got frustrated not being able to go thru layers of vinyl on my baby lock LOL
I added two accessories on that were a game changer for me (both from Sewing Gold). A narrow pressure foot (couldn't tell if that is what you are using but it was a game changer. I never have to swap to a zipper foot and it turns a tight curve perfectly). 2nd is the suspended edge guide foot. I don't need the edge guide, but the roller is amazing for getting perfect top stitching around curves. PS, as I'm watching your video, one more tip when winding the bobbin. Make sure to raise your pressure foot and take the thread out of the needle and uptake lever. Then you can wind really fast without messing up your needle thread. If I'm winding the bobbin while sewing, I put a plastic seam clip on the end of the thread. This way the thick thread doesn't pop out of the hole while winding and the tension is perfect down to the start of the bobbin. LOVE your videos and teaching style!!
Loved your story, I was so naive and trusting I believed everything I was told at that age! I never got arrested but I did get myself in some situations that I would not have been in if I hadn’t been so trusting! I’m in my mid 60’s and still feel like a loser at times! Sewing keeps me grounded and sane! I enjoy your videos!
Bless your heart. Such a good lesson in the fact that just because a kid is doing all the right things doesn't mean he/she isn't susceptible to being in bad situations simply due to the fact of the human need to connect with people, even if it's unintentional. I'm sure your mom was a wreck and this day and age, I know it's gotta be hard treading that fine line between watching your kids and letting them have their wings. So many dangers out there these days.
I love every one of your videos, and the bag you just made is fabulous! I really enjoyed this video too. It was a lot of fun listening to your stories and watching you warm up to your Juki Baby! Very enjoyable!
My mother always used to say that all children should be "naughty enough to be normal". And believe me I was VERY normal. Although you may look on your escapade as a dark time (and for you it was) you were simply living the process of youth that my mother would describe in this appropriate little saying. As parents and guardians our obligation is to take the transgressions of our children seriously but in the overall scheme of things most are simply more extreme learning tools for our kids. Thank you for sharing your "moment".
You are doing so well on your machine. I bought my machine after you. I now want a cylinder arm machine myself. Keep using your machine. You're doing great. I enjoy your videos.
I have the same machine and love it when I need it for heavy duty sewing. It did take a bit of learning and frustrating times before I felt comfortable with it. Sewing Gold was an excellent source for help with videos and phone calls in down times. I mostly sew garments, so this is not my main machine. It is not meant for lighter fabrics, so my Babylock Jane and serger are my besties.
I like your regular bag videos and I also like this. I have a Juki 1181 and have loved learning it. I like that you are sharing your journey . Personal story but also your bag making journey , keep up the good great work
I have a cylinder arm with flat bed attachment and I so love watching the industrial side of bag making. I also still use my TL18 a lot for the thinner fabrics. Love your stories, life experiences and sewing mojo!! Thanks Jess!!
Love listening to you talk (bags and personal). You keep it real and look forward to watching your reels / stories and your RUclips. As a newbie your always inspiring theme to have a go! Please talk more!!!!!
Just bought the pattern, first time I have purchased one of your patterns and I am super impressed! One thing I noticed right away is that the sizes of the pattern piece is on the pattern and that excites me! Every other pattern I have purchased does not have that and I have to measure each and every piece which slows down the process so I am super excited to try making this bag!
Yayyyy Jess!!! You did it!!! And you had a good time doing it!!! Thanks for sharing your process and your life stories. It makes us love you even more. 🥰 We need to get you a little 3 tier rolling cart to put beside your Beastie.
I’m not a bag maker per se, but I do enjoy making bags from time to time. I recently purchased the Juki 2010 to help me out…still learning how to use it. You did a great job on the bag. I held my breath for you at times LOL. Beauty and the Beast 😊
This is exactly what I needed today - I’m reducing a lot of my social media so seeing you just hang out on RUclips is nice because I miss your stories on Insta!
I love your videos. I don’t make bags (I live overseas and shipping costs for materials are just too prohibitive). That said I always look forward to your videos. You put your true self on camera and it’s very endearing. ❤
I love this format. I appreciate your story. I’m also excited to see some embroidery. I have an embroidery unit for my bernina that I need to learn to use better. I’ve used a brother, but the bernina seems harder.
This video got me teary eyed! Thank you for sharing your story, and a definite plus of this video was this AMAZING bag!!! I am so jealous (as I have only a domestic machine), but maybe I can make a thinner version of this bag...
I'll watch any content you want to video. I'm a multi crafter - sewing, knitting, crochet, beading, and weaving. So I like to watch lots of different things.
The things I did in my youth, by some luck I just never got caught. I knew what I shouldn't be doing, it was just fun.🤷♀️ I love this style of video, it's nice to get to know you and be a bit vulnerable, I admire that and I think it solidifies your fan base. I would venture to guess many of us share your personality type. I certainly do, I even own an industrial laser and make templates, LOL I even fumble with my industrial sewing machines, even worse with my cylinder arm!😂
Thank you so much for this video. I was just gifted a used artisan 618-1sc and it has been a huge learning curve just getting it tweaked and figuring out what it likes. Off to switch up the foot and needle to see if it helps.
I really enjoy all of your videos. I also own a juki 1541s and just sewed my first leather bag using one of the videos you recorded. Noodlehead backpack. It has a lot of mistakes but I love it . Thank you for all of your content.
Jess really liked this video. Even though it isn't a "tutorial" it's a way to show others how an industrial works. Would love to see more content like this especially with some basics like tension and oiling for those of us on the fence about upgrading. Jelly Roll - love him and also Post Malone. People discount them because of their looks but their songs have really meaningful lyrics if you pay attention and really listen. If you like Loser, listen to "I am not OK" the lyrics are so true to how so many people feel when they are struggling.
I have an even bigger Juki and it can wind the bobbin as you sew, you just need 2 cones of thread, one that is sewing and one that is winding at the same time. Love love love Juki industrials
Hey Jess. Loved seeing you work on your industrial. I have the same one (1541S). Not sure where I read this (the manual, idk), but I recently discovered that you should put the reverse handle down when switching the stitch length. It is a little intimidating working with this machine, but I'm getting to know it better and love the way it stitches. I traded in my Juki 900sms for this one. The 9000 wasn't strong enough to handle the thicker materials. The 1541 doesn't even hesitate. I swear I hear it saying "Bring it on! Throw me more!" haha.
❤ your video’s you always give great tips and information and explain everything so well! Great video thank you for sharing and thanks for everything you do it’s always appreciated! Hugs Liz x
I actually really enjoyed watching this video…. I’m a newbie so watching you sew in real time and making a few minor errors here and there were comforting lol. I haven’t been following you for long but wondering if you have this type of content on a domestic. I’m still learning to use a machine (domestic for now) coming from hand stitching leather bags. Learning needles, threads, tensions etc for various fabrics can be daunting. I’m wanting to work with more waxed canvas, cotton canvas and hopefully some leather.
Shy introvert here. Found my tribe with creators like you. So glad to see you using beastie -- i'd be terrified. Love the tiny cameo at the end. Own the tag!
Persevere with this machine. I used one at work and at first I was very intimidated but once I got used to it I love that machine!!! I could sew on that machine (and did from 9:00-5:00) all day every day and loved every minute of it. My home sewing machine is a Bernia 1130 which I also love but I would sew everything on the Juki if I could.
I have a clone to this exact machine. She doesnt like quilt cotton alone, but she does well with vinyl and layers. I typically sew with a size 19 needle andTex 70 thread. I also sew with a narrow foot and love it!
Totally awesome bag. And yes it is very professional. All the bags you make are very professional to be. You are an awesome person and so very talented and smart. I loved watching you sew on your industrial sewing machine. It was great and you did it. I enjoyed your whole video. Make more videos like this. 😊🪡🧵🧳👜💼🎒💜 You are not a Loser.
Gorgeous bag. You can take a picture of your broken cup and upload it to google, they have a function you can use their photo scanner to scourer the internet for it. I would love an industrial but I can’t justify spending the money lol x
I love this video! It feels like I'm sitting here with a friend. Also, as the mother of a kid who ended up in alternative school for a quarter due to some bad decisions in 6th grade, I believe kids arent bad, but their decisions may be. When I see news where a child did something and gets absolutely pummeled in public comments im so glad there wasnt this level of social media around at that time!!!
I have a Janome HD9 that I’m not sure how I ever lived without. I wouldn’t have any problem with any of the sewing you’re doing on the industrial with the HD9. It’s a little workhorse.
I have a bobbin winder on my Consew on the side of my machine that does exactly that. Connect a separate spool of thread and it winds as you sew. I believe you could get this for a lot of machines.
@@OklaRoots your machine also does this. Just leave the bobbin winder engaged and sew while it is winding. When your sewing bobbin is empty, you should have a new one ready. That's why the needle still moves when you wind a bobbin.
I can totally relate to being lonely and making bad decisions- like my first marriage 🤦🏻♀️- it was a combination of loneliness and misguided Christian guilt. I’m nearly 40 and I’ve finally learned to be picky about who I let into my life, platonic and romantic. I’m still lonely, mainly due to geographic isolation from most of my friends and family, but at least now the internet exists and I can video chat with people far away.
I too feel lonely at my machine all by myself! So I totally relate. It's hard finding sewing buddies in the uk as there are Not that many sewing groups near me or I feel like a nuisance or they might be busy ect if I speak to people online in groups, so I often don't strike up conversations with people and I'm usually very sociable! I love jess and her videos they cheer me up often and inspire me to keep sewing. ❤❤
Your story is a reminder of why we don’t hold children to the same standard as adults. Children need time to grow and mature, and to find out that what they are experiencing in the moment is not how their entire future will be. Good for you for coming out of your childhood having learned that, so you can be a good parent to your children.
There are bobbin less machines, but they can only chain stitch like in overlockers and cover stitch machines. The problem is that your thread needs to go once around bobbin to lock the stitch and doing any more than one once around will get you the bird nest you've ever seen, but you probably already knew that and were just waiting for someone like me to 'splain to you and have a laugh. 😉
I wanted to add that I’d love to take a class from you if you ever wanted to come to Washington state for SewExpo every February or early March. I got to take the Gallivanter Wallet class from Nicole at SewGnar and Lauren Mormino was there to assist. It was a really fun experience. The only thing I wish was different is that the sewing machines provided were for quilting and were threaded with cotton thread that broke a few times with multiple layers of cork. I’m bringing my own thread next year. 😂
I’m a senior and saved for a long time for an industrial sewing machine, after talking to Juki Junkies. They talked me into a semi industrial machine which was a lot cheaper so I was impressed that they would tell me I could do what I whited to do without the more expensive models. Juki Junkies was great when I was looking to buy a machine. But as soon as I purchase my machine, the support evaporated. I couldn’t get the face place off to replace with the heavy duty face plate, as soon as I got it. I’ve owned sewing machines since I was a little girl, never have had problems with such a little thing. I couldn’t remove one screw, I tried everything. I watch their videos, I had my nephew and my brother-in-law try. My brother-in-law was a contractor he has every tools there is. And he could loose it. So I broke down and called Judi Junkies for help. I was told it was a simple thing and if I used the right screw drive there was no reason it wouldn’t work. I explained about my brother-in-law, then they me to take photos of the screw driver we used, like you can tell the length of screw drive from a picture. After a long debate I was told to call a sewing machine service. I live in Montana, you can’t just get a repairman right away. The man that works on my long arm travels around the state serving machines. So I call and it was going to be a couple of weeks before he could help me. This was a brand new machine that I didn’t want to wait weeks to use and I would have to pay a service call, so I call them back and was told I could mail it back if I agreed to pay half the price of shipping (again Montana was $100.00) if they couldn’t get it off they pay for the shipping, but didn’t know how long it would be to get back. So I gave up with them and spent the $50 to have the screw drilled out. Never heard from Judi Jukies again when I was also told they keep in touch. So I will never go back and buy additional equipment, feet etc. from them or anything from them again.
Wow, what a frustrating experience for you on a new machine you were probably so excited to use! Glad you got it worked out and thanks for the warning. PS they should've at least offered to video call with you to see the problem. Customer service effort would go a long way.
Thank you, it had to be drilled out. If my brother-in-law couldn’t fix there was no way I could’ve even with a video. I got the Juki-18, it is a great machine. So I would recommend it.

So glad you are getting a relationship with that powerful machine.
It was fun to watch.!!
Yayyyy Jess!!! You did it!!! And you had a good time doing it!!!

I loved this video! Please make more.
So happy you are learning your machine 🙂
Just meeting you officially and wow’s the was a fun time watching this video. Thanks so much. Informative, honest and spirited ❤

If I may add…
When quilting, start in the center of the oversized piece (or panel) and work to the outside. Helps keep the puckering minimal.
Loved watching you create this bag! Love your Juki machine too!
Thank you so much for this video. I was just gifted a used artisan 618-1sc and it has been a huge learning curve just getting it tweaked and figuring out what it likes. Off to switch up the foot and needle to see if it helps.
It's such a great video! Well done on the bag. She's gorgeous 😍
I really enjoy all of your videos. I also own a juki 1541s and just sewed my first leather bag using one of the videos you recorded. Noodlehead backpack. It has a lot of mistakes but I love it . Thank you for all of your content.

So I could wind a bobbin while sewing, and I tried it once, but it ended a tangled mess. I think I need to practice more
I loved listening to your stories. Try to make sure your needle is all the way up, lift the presser foot up, then pull your fabric to the back.
Hey Jess. Loved seeing you work on your industrial. I have the same one (1541S).
I would LOVE to see more videos like this with your industrial. Since I don't have one of my own (yet) I will sew vicariously through you, lol.
You got it
Hilarious!!!... I enjoy watching you and telling your stories, thank you!! HNY. 😅
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I loved this video! Great work Jess. I would love to see more videos with your industrial. On the fence myself if I want to get one some day.
Great video! I can so relate to you at the end when you compliment beastie ! Looking forward to see you branch out with other kinds of tutorials
❤ your video’s you always give great tips and information and explain everything so well! Great video thank you for sharing and thanks for everything you do it’s always appreciated! Hugs Liz x
I loved your video and love your bag! You show how to just plow through and get it done. Great job and thank you 😊
Thank you!!
Loved it.. please continue filming your time on the industrial.
OMG!❤ You nailed it! Fabulous!
Shy introvert here. Found my tribe with creators like you. So glad to see you using beastie -- i'd be terrified. Love the tiny cameo at the end. Own the tag!
The Best thing you’ve Ever said!
There are NO BAD KIDS!!!!!!!!😘
I have Sailrite that I am still making friends with. Thanks for the inspiration!
Good timing, Jess! Been looking this week at Jukis v Jacks and interested to see this. Thank you. x
So easy to be taken advantage of at that young age. Love the bag and your industrial.
I love the industrial sewing machine videos🤩 do more🥰
Love these type of videos on this machine. I have one and need to use it but it scares me. I could play along.
It is pretty scary! But the more we use it, the less afraid we should be... hopefully
@ hopefully!
This video makes me love you so much more then I already did! ❤❤❤
Great job!!!!! ❤ You did good!
Thank you!! 🥰
I'm so happy to see you on your 1541s. Im currently making a men's architect wallet on my 1541 as I watch you.
I love this video. I learned so much even though this wasn’t a tutorial. Thank you.
I have that machine as well and I find it jams up as well. I also have a Techsew Industrial and yes, they sew like butter lol
Look at you go with the Industial machine. Yaaaaah! someday I hope to have one.
You seem so much more relatable in this video. I like it.
Awesome job. I just got a juki ddl 8700h. I'm excited but scared at the same time.
I need to find room in my sewing room. I have been looking for an industrial machine. I have so much leather and want to use it. Great video.
That's the hard part, the size of the machine. But it really is amazing
I have a Janome HD9 that I’m not sure how I ever lived without. I wouldn’t have any problem with any of the sewing you’re doing on the industrial with the HD9. It’s a little workhorse.
I just have a straight stitching industrial machine. Practice makes perfect, even on my machine!
Love this content related to your industrial. Beautiful work.
Love it ❤
I love Jelly Roll! his songs have so much meaning to them if you really listen. such an inspiration.
Give that Beastie a drink of oil to celebrate 🎉 and congrats on concurring that machine, I knew you could do it😊
I have a bobbin winder on my Consew on the side of my machine that does exactly that. Connect a separate spool of thread and it winds as you sew. I believe you could get this for a lot of machines.
Oh, I didn't know that was an option! Thank you for the tip!
I like your video's. Thank you so much. I like your Luki🥰🥰🥰
greatings from the Netherlands.
Thank you! 😃
Great video Jess and glad you got your Juki working well. Where did you get your narrow foot?
Oh my goodness I was just thinking the same thing about a continuous bobbin a couplle weeks ago!
Your story is a reminder of why we don’t hold children to the same standard as adults. Children need time to grow and mature, and to find out that what they are experiencing in the moment is not how their entire future will be. Good for you for coming out of your childhood having learned that, so you can be a good parent to your children.
I agree 100%!
Love your videos! Love your bag!!! Thank you!!!
Love this video!! ❤
When I make a mistake with vinyl or faux leather, I use a hair dryer to make the holes smaller.
That’s the machine I’m going to buy so great timing for this video thank you
I live near that airbase, that's crazy.
I have mine set for needle down when I stop I like it!
Is there a trick for the needle to always stop in the down position, I’m tempted to just buy the needle positioner thing!
