I love this idea so much. It's hard to get out to organized trails days, and often there are too many cooks in the kitchen. I wonder if the tools start walking off, if mounting a game camera (or something) to the pod might help deter anybody. But you never answered the question, do they work on an iPhone?
They totally work with an iphone, when you need to remove your battery just hit it with the big one! Haha seriously though, I should have talked about that more, part of the idea is to post a picture of your work to help encourage others to do their part. On the tools walking off, hasn't been an issue yet here, but I know that's the main concern most places. I think those GPS chips for anti-theft are actually pretty cheap, you could build one of those into a handle maybe? Would be nice if there just weren't any douchebags out there! Ha!
@@PorterMTBThumbs up to you both, love watching your videos. I'd like to think that most of us are decent, well-intentioned people and theft shouldn't be a concern, though I'm probably being naive. I like to leave some gardening and trail tools hidden away in garbage bags and covered with leaves and dirt. My friends and I know where the stash is but it'd be really cool if others were down to help out.
This is easily one of the most inspiring and insightful posts I've ever seen in the riding community. I'm so glad visibility of this blind bandit philanthropy is making its way across the nation. STOKED you shared this, Eric!
Just did the new part of the trail!! Thanks for keeping Dutch hollow running. Saturday is national trail building day, so I am gonna go and tweak a trail with the pod on Dutch hollow !!
We're trying to introduce the 10minute rule here in århus. So if you pass the trailbuilders you walk three loads og gravel sand or the like or give 5- 10minutes of work 😊 we have a major city close to us so trail pods would get stolen unfortunately.
@@PorterMTB well the idea ofc is Canadian XD but it's really amazing how much you get done when you don't hVe to spend time pushing a wheel barrow all the time 😅
This is a GREAT idea! Would love if they implemented this around my local trails. Sadly I'm sure they would get stolen or broken fairly often and quick
This is soo cool. I'd love to have something like this at the local trails, unfortunately there isn't enough honesty to run the honor system in my area.
@@PorterMTB For Christmas this year I'm going to buy some inexpensive tools and gift one of these to my favorite local trail system. hopefully it sticks around for a while.
Awesome idea! I'm going to talk to the forest service about something like this. I adopted a trail up American Fork Canyon last year and again this year under Haven Outdoors. It would be nice to just set up a trail pod since I don't have a lot of time to get up their myself, yet still give people a chance to stop and do some work and keep the trails maintained.
Faze El Nobody thanks!! Hey I didn’t even get a mountain bike till I was 12, and it wasn’t a super nice one either. So don’t give up, you have plenty of time! Just have fun riding your bike!!
Eric Porter thanks for the advice I really appreciate. I love your channel you and Seth bike hacks are my favourite RUclipsrs. And if you don’t mind me asking how did you get so famous
Sam Villa that’s awesome! Get together as many people as you can to support the idea, maybe a local trail advocacy group as well, the more people the better! That will make the city listen, and also give you lots of volunteers to help build it. Get adults involved too, and show the city how a jump park with benefit the community and it’s citizens!
Eric Porter thank for the advice The land I would use is pretty small but I could use it to show the town what mountain biking does for the community and then we could get more people involved to make the trail systems even better Also my teacher is working to get a group of kids together through my school so we can build a pump track there
Do it i am 13 and me and a couple friends were able to make one. We had it all publicly funded. It took a lot of time and fighting towards the city but we kept fighting for it and it all came together. Just go out and do it
Eric... very excited about this concept. We've built the 300 acre Griffin Bike Park in Indiana with over 1300 volunteers that have donated over 16,000 hours of their time to carve out about 19 miles of multi-use trail #griffinbikepark and this is exactly what we need to do an even better job. Where can we order these Trail Pods? Greatly appreciated. Thanks
only thing that would be missing if this was where I live, would be a chainsaw. I had to crawl under a tree once, but it was secure, so I could crawl under it and drag my bike, out of the mud, but eventually it got fixed. but usually not needed, but if winds blow down trees it can be needed. but not so sure leaving a chainsaw to people to use would be such a good idea.😂 but I do like the concept in this video. not seen it where I live other places in Norway. but this should be on all local trails in my opinion.
That is one awesome idea. Good for those lesser known and lesser loved trails that are a little more remote. Think we're going to give it a shot. Thanks for posting this. I guess this is a good thing for people that ride where everyone else rides. Hell, make a super-highway so you have a place to drive your bike to ride. Sound silly to me just saying it.
It's good for some places, not for others, but it's been working great here to help us keep up with the overgrowth! All the maintenance here is volunteer time, so when people can help out with a few minutes here and there, it's good.
Thats pretty cool Don't think it would work in the uk since we get a lot of people goin out theyre way to destroy trails n this would help them with that. Someone even went out the other day and ruined steve peats steel city dh track .
Not my favorite idea. Never know what kind of fool is gonna pick up the tools and ruin the trail/environment. Would rather have a smaller group of experienced workers or volunteers.
I definitely understand where you're coming from, luckily we haven't had any problems with bad trail building as a result of these! They tend to mostly help people trim overgrowth and put in drains if water is pooling or running down the trail.

thetalkingfly thanks Steve!! Hope we can ride together soon!
Hi Eric you should definitely do a shop check 👍
Charlton Skirving 23 it’s on my list, I will definitely be making that video!!!
Such a great idea! It would be good to have a bunch of those on the PC side.
Kenny Huntsman it would be good to see more of them, it’s crazy how well Mtn Trails Foundation keeps the trails dialed though!

WA state remote & alpine trails gonna def benefit much with this great idea
Yeah I could see that being a big benefit on more remote trails so people don't have to ride with big tools!

Eric Porter thanks but right now i have a walgoose so it feels like I’m going to die every time i hit the trials
Wish, not here in so cal, people would take the pod and all, amazing concept!
SoCalExoticsss I know, it’s unfortunate that this idea won’t work in come places due to theft.
Eric Porter if the community would honor the idea and embrace it . Thx for the share!!

awesome idea I've been nagging my trail association to make some

Very nice berm work! I love that tool. Did those 30 minutes count toward your community service hours?
Michael Brown haha depends on your patrol officer! 😂 They do actually count towards our trail group getting grants, which means more trails!
That's a great idea, would be good to implement that over here in Australia on my local tracks 🙂
Let me know how it works!
Cool concept
I would love to see it spread around the country, makes it so much easier to get work done!
I would love to be able to ride trails like that but here in Germany the trails have to be 2m wide otherwise they are eligal to ride

@@PorterMTB yes but not in Stuttgart (there is only one legal trail there)
