      Bentonville is undoubtably a neat place for mountain biking but how many small towns have been hollowed out by Walmart and their ilk? Bentonville is a company town that Tom and Stuert Walton have made their personal playground. Bentonville’s example of “prosperity” isn’t applicable everywhere.

    I live in a small town in south west Missouri. Im less than 2 hours from Bentonville and have never been there. I’m so jealous of the infrastructure in place for bikes. My town just keeps shrinking road shoulders to make lanes wider for cars and making it harder and more unsafe for bikes with each passing year. Enter FAST (Friends of Arkansas Singletrack.) We started riding with them as soon as we got here and never looked back. Such a great and friendly group of people, that here we are almost 4 months into our trip and we just closed on a house to move here permanently. And to close the circle fully, what brought us here last year were various content creators, including yourself Seth, making great videos about the place, but it's the less tangible things that have kept us here and why we now call it home.

      @TrailFeatures Год назад

      @@dadlife8289 A lot of old thinking for city planning needs to be undone I'm sure. Bentonville is likely still one of the best examples for people to point to of what's possible in even a few short years when you get the right people behind it.

    • @dadlife8289
      @dadlife8289 Год назад +1

      @@TrailFeatures the big problem is a lot of the main roads don't even have shoulders because most of the houses used to be out in the boonies. Then in my neighborhood, they want to take away 11ft of our backyard to put a 5 lane road (no bike lane)

    • @TrailFeatures
      @TrailFeatures Год назад

      @@dadlife8289 It's honestly a good talking point to bring up. It shows that so long as the rest of the country relies on cars to get from one major area to the next, city planners will always go back to old thinking and just need one more lane and then the problem is solved! And people from out of town will always assume they need a car to get anywhere in the city, trains and buses are for poor people that can't afford cars. So planners will either assume (or be told) they need to build more roads or they are leaving money on the table that could otherwise pour into their local economy.
      Lack of supporting regional infrastructure becomes a glaring issue when places like Bentonville turn into desirable place to visit/live, but people fall back to old thinking that ruins the whole reason they want to be there.

    • @dadlife8289
      @dadlife8289 Год назад

      @@TrailFeatures oh there's one more thing to bring up. The 3 major roads in Bentonville - Walton Blvd, Centerton Blvd, Airport Rd all do not have bike lanes, plus long stretches of no side walks. They were not prepared for the explosive growth here and I don't know how they're going to get the land to do with with all store parking lots right up to the road

    My god how i missed watching Seth. I remember coming back from school and watching his videos then going out in my old aggressive hardtail and jumping ledges and doing manuals! I love how berm peak has improved and expanded so much!😂❤

    Seth, we were just in town for a visit. Stopped Friday at Berm Park. Great place . . . BUT, no place for my wife (an XC/roadie rider) to ride a truly green "beginner" trail. She walked up the climbing trail and coasted down. So much was done to make use of the hill that the bottom section is completely forgotten about. May I suggest that Canton put in a small "skills" area contained in a low to no consequence trail that uses the lower sections of the hill. 4 of us went up to the top of Chestnut and 1 sat in the car. That one I have to live with. "super Green" trails would be a small investment and use the less popular section of land gravity riders prefer. At any rate, there's no "entry level" anything there, and there is room for it.

    I live in Tulsa, about two hours from Bentonville. We go over there to ride pretty often. The great part is that trail builders are doing their thing in Tulsa. The Tulsa community has invested $10 million in trails. They aren't quite as good but they are coming along. Come over for the day and ride some Tulsa trails at Turkey Mountain (its a hill).

    It’s high time America adopted a cycle centeric attitude. Europe has been well into this(long before MTB became a craze)and its just the most delightful way to engage in the environment and your fellow man. So simple…no brainier.

    Glad they are reworking that area. I was there a few weeks ago and that whole area is in rough shape. I think thats the downside of the explosion of trails, they can't keep up with everything they have. The last few times I've been there I've noticed that. I guess its a good problem to have.

    Seth, I'm happy to have run into you at Compton Garden's, you might see some clips I took over on 'Shifter' as discussed in a bit. Since you're in the area and converting your Shurly into a commuter maybe you should hit up Lisa while your in town. If you don't know Lisa ask anyone in the commuter scene in Bentonville they'll likely know her and she's got a very thoughtful eBike commuter and for her it's pretty much a vehicle replacement. This video certainly explains why you ended up back here in NWA.
