  • Ed Selley reviews the Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature Floor Standing Speakers, priced at £7000. You can read the full in-depth review - www.avforums.c...
The 702 S3 Signature doesn't quite hit the heights of the 805 but we're still talking degrees of excellence meaning that it needs to be seen as one of the best sub £10k speaker options on the market. The detail tweaks make a good speaker that bit better and the gorgeous finishes make it feel more expensive than it is. Bowers' ongoing Signature program continues to deliver the goods.
    Pros
    Big, confident and engaging sound
    Beautifully made and finished
Relatively easy to drive and place
    Cons
Some key rivals are fractionally more fun
A bit of a pig to unbox and move around
The basic model is very good too...

These speakers were horribly bright sounding i listened them at hifi show and they killed my ears with bright sound. Why bowers cant make a neutral speaker?

About 14-15 years ago I tried out the 700 and 800 series and found that 700 series too bright as well. I ended up going the 804S.

I auditioned these at a Media Consulting Co in a sound treated room a few months ago. I had very, very high hopes to love them and buy them. I was disappointed becuase the sound was no better than my 8060 Def Techs at home and found the sound to be average for a $10,000 pair of speakers. Was it me? They offered me to bring in my Def Techs and do a side by side comparision which I hope to do soon.

I guarantee your 8060s don't image and are nowhere near as accurate as these. The just have built in subs. Don't get me wrong, that line of DT's is an amazing bang for the buck loudspeaker but these will outperform them everywhere except bass response. But that's what Rel subs are for.

I bought some headphones and the ear foam came apart. Called and they have a separate site to get new ones. Only they were out of stock forever. Doubt I buy anything from these guys again.

Very good brief overview Ed, I'm curious which is the better speaker if you want the full range from just 2 speakers. I'm also looking at the Canton Reference 5 which is in the same price class. Can you shine a light on that?

You mean they’re made in China? If they are then the 10k price tag would not make sense
