The more you listen, the vocals on this album are insane. Many of the songs have Thom vocals in multiple layers, almost inaudible. The areas where it blends with the instrumental parts, as you pointed out with Instant Psalm, are heavenly and yet dissonant--discombobulating, as you said. Colours Fly is my favorite from this album. I can feel the heat and clashes of the Middle East in this track. They've been getting raked over the coals for not vocalizing support for Gaza, but this song and many others by the Smile are about the complications of zealotry and polarization of society. They speak through their music which drive into chaotic sections but then coalesce into glorious harmonies of many voices and many sounds. There is no unity, but there is beauty.
Glad to see more Thom Yorke reactions! Always love seeing your thoughts on songs I really enjoy. Just wondering- have you considered reacting to bands like Talking Heads or Queens of the Stone Age?

Thanks for being Dean.
Thanks for doing this one Dean! Zero Sum might be The Smile’s signature track.

not really
i think its their best work so far
for me they are devolving and getting a bit boring with each album but still good
Definitely their best one so far
btw, does anyone else besides me think that Dean Wolfe slightly resembles Tom Skinner from The Smile? :)
Is it me or do Thoms vocals take more of a backseat on this album compared to the others.
