HI everyone! Thanks for coming by and checking out my video reactions! I hope you enjoy them.
He was known as "the wild one".... the start of rock and roll in AUS. Legend!
Billy Thorpe said he saw Bill Haley and other o/s acts, but it was Johnny that made him want to be a rocker. He said "I want to do just what he did" when he saw him. Both gentlemen pushed other Australian artists and our industry forward
The great JO'K, great performer.
Australia's Mr rock and roll
He was the king
Johnny Okeefe Rocker with a suit and bowtie
Go view any of the Great Rock ‘N Rollers from the 1950’s , early 1960’s.
Jeans & T-Shirts were not appropriate Stage Clothing; only good for working in fields or construction work sites. My mother called jeans, “ dungarees”, working class clothes, not for “ going out in” (& she left school at 14 to go work in a factory seeing uniforms for WWII military.
❤ This is dedicated to Grahame’s mum. A lady who had an absolutely bonza taste in music! ❤🌹
Thank you Kim ❤
I’ve seen this guy live a few times and although he is no longer with us he put on the best shows. He’d have everyone up and dancing, time meant nothing to him. If he could see people dancing and enjoying it he would play much longer than was advertised. I know what you mean about those screaming girls, they used to drive me mad. They would start yelling even before the singer started his song .🇦🇺😘
I heard a story about when he toured the US. The US promoter promotered him as the Boomerang Kid. And held a contest for people to win prizes if they could throw a boomerang further than him. I guess they thought all Aussies know how to throw a boomerang. Well he had never thrown one in his life and it didn’t help that he turned up drunk or stoned and only threw the boomerang a couple of feet.
lol.. funny story
😂😅👍
John Farnham said he studied JO’K’s interactions with his audience when he first started out. I think this was early on in JOK’s career
Johnny O'Keeffe was Australia's first wild man of rock and roll
He actually came from a privileged background. He's uncle was a NSW , Surpreme Court judge. Johnny had a serious car accident in the early 1960s which disfigured his face. In 1964, the Beatles arrived in Australia and as they say, the rest was history for Johnny.
JO'K was also quite big in Britain in the 50s and 60s. I remember my mum had a bit of a crush on him
This was ‘59 I think. To me the recording was great!! I know what Johnny put in to his music and recordings. I loved this when it was new , and still do today!
Come on Mike, young teenage girls do this. I remember going to a "Duran Duran" concert in Canberra Australia at 15, ( English Boy Band group) and even I screamed....the only time I ever did mind you...
lol... My lord Anthea.
J O'k was Australia's Elvis. A legend. Hurt badly in a car accident. Hard man though. There was a reason he was called the King.
JOK was huge here and the girls went nuts for him, and Johnny was a bit of a ladies man too. You should do more of Johnny.
Bam 🏆💥👋
Noice one, Gilly! ❤👍
👋👋👋morning Graham's mum 🎉🎉
😂😅😂🤣 You’re such a square, Michael! But we love ya! ❤😂👍
Ha ha those “stinking girls screaming !!”
Let’s wait till Mike is a mega RUclips star and all those girls are chasing him at the airport on his world tour
😂😱
@@CooranbongDave 😂😅🤣👍
@@CooranbongDaveGee I hate that word “ stinking”
applied to anything good or to any particular group of people. Those girls were no more “stinking than young men are today. Please find another adjective if you have to use one at all. Don’t corrupt the use of the English language. OK?
@@pacapaca6307You appear lost . This is You Tube, not high tea at the Raffles in Singapore .
@@Macman-v8m So any old offensive language reference is OK by you I guess. YT doesn’t need to sink to the level of gutter slang.
As I said: find a more appropriate adjective while I enjoy my “cuppa tea”. 😉
Mike.., When J OK was at his top when this film was made ( & this is pre videotape), there were No Teen Mags in Australia. Maybe a weekly TV Magazine where small snippets about music shows on TV might be written about. In that era… would have been Brian Henderson’s Bandstand, perhaps J OK’s own Six O,Clock Rock ( I vaguely recall my mother switching that on to watch whilst living in Sydney between ‘59 - ‘62), both broadcasted out of Sydney, Australia but not Nationally.
Actually for a live recording the sound is really good. Microphone technology & broadcast recording particularly for “outdoor/out of studio” productions were nowhere near as advanced as they have become since this was filmed. You’re listening to a recording made on reel to reel magnetic tape that easily loses sound definition over time as little magnesium flakes drop off the tape.
Just think… this film was made around about the time you may have been learning to talk.. and the ( non stinking)girls at that show would all be most likely into their 80’s now.
J OK was a great Showman & he was the “ hottest” youth entertainer on the scene through that era. Paved the way & inspired many who followed.
good comment
They were worth screaming for back then 😂😂😂 76yo from Aus 🇦🇺
A fascinating social documentary, I'd love to pick that video to pieces but I won't except to say how awkward that must have been for the singer, the boyfriends, brothers, fathers! My mum would have been kept home! 😄👍
Morning Mike again
Morning brother
G'day, 12th. Morning family
❤ Morning Bones! 👋
J O'K was, to be fair, a very average singer...but he was the closest we had to a rockstar in the 50-60s. And what he lacked in the vocal department, he more than made up in stagecraft. He was shunted to the middle of the road category by the arrival of The Beatles in the mid 60s.
Also Johnny hosted 2 TV show. 0ne was called 6 O'Clock Rock. I think there would be an vetter video than this.
See ya on the next one
❤ Got some old Bowie coming up, Gilly! Stick around! 😂😅❤

Mike ..you'll like
( The little river band - (the night owl)..and( l be home on a Monday ).. official video .lead singer Glen Shorock ..
@michaelmayo9048 ❤ They are beauties. They’re on my list for the future. I saw Glenn live last month and I had to cry, Michael. He has Parkinson’s. He had to be helped on and off the stage. 😢 But he still has the beautiful voice and still has his sense of humour. Bless him. ❤
John O keefe was amazing he could match Little Richard any day with power -The recording was CRAP
He could sing better than that. It's a bad version.
