    It's the best explanation about pathfinder I ever faced with. You gave me a clear understanding what is crop, trim options and what is the exact difference between unite and merge options. Before that I didn't understand it to the end, because peple were explaining it on some examples without strict details as opposed to yours. Now I got rid of unclear things in pathfinder issue. I think your video worth the hignest praise and is the best on this theme. From my side a big thanks, like and subscription.

    Went back to school after MANY years. Just graduated with my associates in Graphic Design this past December, but I am sure you remember you leave with as many questions as you had answered lol. I will be going back for my Bachelors in September however I am hungry to learn MORE about adobe so here I am. Thanks a lot for this video, I learned a lot.

    This is the video I needed to see - I just click a button, then undo, then click another one, then undo, then I end up just using the shape builder tool instead 😂 Cheers Mike!

      Always happy to hear when one of my videos makes something click! I used to be the same way but just decided one day that enough was enough and I needed to learn and understand each of them to save time...

    Crop is definitely the hardest to understand how to use properly. Thanks for this video, very informative!

    Great video thank you.
    Can I ask please - making seamless patterns I was trying to use the crop tool. I have a bunch of PNG images behind a square that matched my canvas. When I crop or intersect the images I am always just left with the whole imported images and as far as I can tell no further cropping has happened. However if I use Ctrl + 7 I get the desired effect.
    My work will involve using many images I purchase and create and I would love to get some more info on how imported images etc can be manipulated. Thank you.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Let me see what I can do, I already have Thursday's video shot and ready to go but I could throw this on my list for next Monday. I know that doesn't help you out today.... If you can't wait that long maybe give this video a try, ruclips.net/video/jE3G9Te0PDc/видео.html

    This video was super helpful! I'm new to illustrator so this might be an obvious question, but when I try to use the pathfinder (or shape modes) tool to cut something out of a shape using the minus front function, it also groups and recolors anything else that is also on top of that shape even if it's not selected. For example, text that is already on the shape will automatically get recolored and grouped with the shape making it appear invisible. Is there anyway to prevent this without moving the text off of the shape before using the pathfinder tool?

    • @MikePickettDesignCo
      @MikePickettDesignCo  3 года назад

      Thanks Thomas! If the shape, for example the text you mention, isn't grouped or selected it shouldn't be affected by any actions you take. Normally when working with the pathfinder tools the final shape will take on the colour and properties of the object in the foreground (other than the crop tool). If you have an example file you could send me where you're have the issue you explain I'd like to see it so that I can better understand the issue and possibly point you in the right direction. You can get in touch with me through either Twitter or IG or find my email address on the About tab here on RUclips.
