6ARC vs 6.5 Creedmoor- 14.5” dmr compare

- 6mm ARC & 6.5 creedmoor.... Both provide exceptional performance in a dmr role but how do they actually stack up in a side by side live fire comparison? 6ARC provides the user with impressive ballistics and long range capability from a small package, but sacrifices energy on target. 6.5 creedmoor provides impressive energy on target but with significant drawbacks in terms of weight size and cost. If you're trying to decide which route you want to go for your next DMR project stick around because this video is going to give you real world data on how these 2 popular calibers match up.

Very unique content and good information. I think your channel is gonna perform very well over the years.
Not many creators who are doing what you are which gives you a good leg up in the niche.
Really appreciate your continued support! Really just hoping to provide viewers with entertainment in each video but also leave them with some type of valuable takeaway. Seems to be working well so far so my plan is to keep cranking out the fresh and unique content.
Man that 6 ARC center punched that steel at 1030 there at the end. I am 100% believer in these newer 6mm target bullets and it’s undeniable they put it down.
The 6.5cm is king the further you go out. But in everyday most common shots I give it to the ARC for weight capacity and accuracy.
For the majority of long range hunters/ target shooters It’s really a no brainer to go with 6.5CM.
I can buy a variety of Match grade ammo off the shelf at Wallmart here in Ga. It’s awesome. They even sell a bulk box of Federal 120g OTM 50 round boxes of 6.5cm. 🤯
Us precision shooters are living in the golden era of the sport and I couldn’t be happier about. Now just let me pick my suppressors up same day with my CCW and I’ll be complete lol.
Great video Brother!! Another Banger! 🦅🇺🇸🫡
I appreciate the camera work on all your videos. For a one man show, you do a good job with the angles and information. Very informative stuff with equipment overviews and recaps on every one.
I’m impressed you noticed! Getting all the cameras setup is the most annoying part about filming haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica dont be too impressed, but the attention to detail is very professional, and the transitions break up the long dialogue and make it more enjoyable. Im hoping to get into some longer target shooting and the information you give is very insightful!
Great job as always. Now, I think we would all like to see these rounds on gel to actually see ballistic performance at these distances. We all believe you have the skills to show this.
Gel target would be fun.
Currently building a 16" bolt action 6.5 creedmoor for hunting. This is very informative. Keep it up man. I would like to see more bolt action on your channel.
Loving the 14.5 creedmoor videos. Interested to see how this shakes out
Hope you enjoyed the video! The more I shoot short 6.5s the more I like it. If you’ve watched many of my videos you know I prefer shorter barrels and I feel like 6.5cm really allows you to make the most out of a short barrel at distance. Tons of fresh short 6.5cm content coming so hope you’ll stay tuned!
If you shake it more than 2 seconds you’re playing with it
I neeeeeed a 14.5 6.5CM MWS pattern barrel. Heeeellllllpppp
@@MountainsMulletsMericawith how readily available the cartridge has become a short 6.5 makes a lot of sense. I don't know if it necessarily replaces the role of the 308 battle rifle but it gets close
You do an exceptional job with your videos. Simple and easy to understand content that answers great questions. I'm impressed by the 14.5 CM.
I love this channel. Been picking squash and on lunch break. This is perfect to watch and cool down.
Dude I love it! I’ve picked thousands of pounds of squash through the years so cool to hear I’m not the only one that can appreciate that kind of “fun” haha. Hope the video was worth the watch!
Wow I was hoping you’d release a video on this comparison, and here it is. Amazing channel. I’m loving my 6 ARC. Extremely capable cartridge for how tiny it is with almost no recoil. Super efficient.
Thanks!
Comparison videos are the best! Thanks!
Agreed! I love making the comparison videos. You could say I’m out here trying to provide real world performance data for every online this vs that shooting debate haha.
Great video! Love the tripod positions you utilize.
Good morning. Thanks for another detailed comparison of different platforms. Just let me grab my coffee. ☕
Thanks for bringing us along!!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Awesome!! There are so many upsides to 6ARC especially if someone currently owns an AR in 5.56/223.....It would be interesting to see your thoughts on building a companion 6ARC upper for an existing 5.56/223 AR lower........
Pumped for the outcome of this video!
Hope you found value in watching this one! I had a blast putting it together!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica absolutely!
Hi and thank you for posting some new content and sharing your experience much appreciated with Respect Bill W.
This content is always Great Man Thank you for putting these videos out . A gel ballistic test at those ranges would be awesome to see. Grateful!
Tons of folks requesting me do some ballistic gel testing so I’m going to look into it. At the moment I don’t have a great way to do it but stay tuned…. I want to try and figure something out for the people haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica the community here on your channel would be eternally grateful.
So useful to have the side by side comparison with your detailed explanations of each platform's performance. I'd get a lot out of a future video where you dive into the details of setting up and using your ballistic app along with obtaining atmospheric conditions for the app calculations.
I have a ballistic app deep dive in the future content plan, so hope you’ll stay tuned! In fact I’m thinking of a video series around how to get setup to effectively shoot long range, geared toward folks that are newer to distance shooting
its a good day when i get to watch one of these videos!
Thank you! Really appreciate the support!
Very cool comparison. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job. Love your work.
Thank you! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel!
great stuff dude
Would love to see a 12.5 vs 14.5 6mm arc vid! Also perhaps test some penetrating capabilities vs 308/6.5? As I feel that is an important aspect of a dmr. Thanks for all your vids though keep em coming either way!
Great comparison video .
Glad you enjoyed watching!
Another great video I bought the same arken 2.5 years ago Black Friday sale I like but finicky on the eye relief though and light conditions but for price came with mount caps T-shirt rear bag etc for $269 I got more than what I paid for it don’t regret the purchase at all I had it on a .224 Valkyrie but going to change the barrel to 22 ARC ordered a 24” Ballistic Advantage fluted bull barrel on their 4th July sale gonna drag myself down that rabbit hole now
Another great video👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video dude. Alpha Munitions started making brass for the 6 ARC. I have some on the way. I would love to see what you can do with the Proof barrel on the other 6 ARC. Love the 6.5 Creedmoor too 👍
Great content!
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the support!
Good vid. Mans a better marksmen than i am. Gotta love hornady for pushing the standard and developing exceptional cartridges.
Oh man, a little luck goes a long ways haha. It really impressive what Hornady has been doing the past couple of years. Aside from 308 and 556 pretty much all of the calibers I find myself shooting frequently were recently developed by Hornady
I’m so glad I built my 14.5in 6.5CM. That damn thing is the most potent SBR I own. I love my 18in 6ARC also, but man that shorty 6.5CM is such a joy. They never see it coming.
Great informative video
Glad you enjoyed watching! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel!
Fun video; thank you!
thanks for the video
Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Seeing some trace with the Tactacam! Nice!
Just wish I was good enough to actually see the trace through my riflescope when I’m behind the rifle. It’s always so obvious when I review footage for editing but never seems that easy to see in real time haha
I was not expecting that 😮 pretty cool 😎
What part surprised you the most?
Didn’t know if 14 1/2 barrel could be accurate at such distance. Would love to see you do a video on the Sig cross PRS 24 inch barrel.
Interesting info on 14.5-inch barrel configurations on these platforms! I'd probably lean more myself on the 6.5 Creedmoor round myself! Not just for range and target shooting, but energy on target for game! Especially for out to 500 yards! Just my preference for hunting limits!
great video, I like both calibers at 600-1000.
Great video. I finished my 14.5” 6.5C and the 140s group .9” and the Berger 130 AR OTMs group .35” at 2550. The 130 are where it’s at for a short 6.5C.
Yeah I agree with you there. I’m a big fan of the 130gr 6.5 bullet but I haven’t found a 130 load this barrel likes yet. Seems like it shoots the 140s better from the little bit of testing I’ve been able to do.
@@MountainsMulletsMericaDid you try AR Hybrids yet?
I appreciate this video confirming why I built 16" 6.5 Creedmoor gasser. Huge capability out of that round and barrel length with 140's.
Pretty awesome what you can do with a short 6.5 isn’t it? A lot of people on the internet will tell you it’s not possible to shoot long range with a setup like that haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica hoping to take mine out 1000 on the clock this weekend. I’m confident I should be able to make impacts at that distance without too much struggle
I just finished building my 16” 6.5cm battle rifle and it shoots sub MOA all day with the right ammo. Love it can’t wait to stretch it out!
Thank you 😊
My groups with gas guns tightened up and became more consistent big time when I quit side saddling my thumb and played with 'heeling' pressure on the grip. Also pulling into your shoulder a considerable amount helps. My reticle comes straight back to center. Give that a shot.
Great vid! Leaning towards a 6.5CM after this. Get a 22 ARC and compare pls :)
Good stuff.
For a while, I've been wanting a short barreled 6.5 creemoor. This pushed me over the edge.
Love it! You won’t be disappointed. As you can see in this video, a short 6.5cm is way more capable than many folks on the internet would have you believe haha
Leaning towards a 6.5 build and loved seeing the performance of the 14.5”. definitely rethinking the necessity of a longer barrel to have good performance to 800-1000yards.
I've shot my 12" Grendel at those distances regularly over the past 7 years. Not much different than my 3x 18" Grendels, or my 16" Grendel.
Great video as usual. I was really expecting both of those precision specific rounds to have a better grouping at 100yds. They're not even under 1 moa, is that typical of that setup. Asking because I'm interested in a ar10 type build and deciding on a caliber.
Under 1 moa for 10 round groupings is rare for me in my gas guns. I’m really happy with 10 rounds consistently into 1-1.25” at 100 yds.
Great video both calibers were interested to see. I was interested in which target light you like best between the two?
That’s a tough question…. I prefer the performance of the magneto speed but it’s super expensive and I’ve had trouble getting the Velcro to hold it on the plate. I like the price and mounting method of the Hornady but it’s super annoying the plate moving in the wind makes the Hornady flash.
I think I’d sum it up by saying if I’m shooting smaller plates that don’t move in the wind, the Hornady. If I’m shooting bigger plates that move a lot in the wind I prefer the magneto speed
@@MountainsMulletsMericayes, about the MS1000 and I seen in the video how easy the Hornady were flashing in the wind.
Very nice
Nice !!!
Cool video & Good shootin , what hit indicators are you using & what’s up with them constantly blinking?
These are the new Hornady HIT indicators. They are so sensitive that the plate moving in the wind causes them to flash
Good comparison. Could there be some interest in the 6 Dasher or 6 Max?
Creedmor is worth it in the comparison. Easier to aquire ammo, parts and overall performance. Thanks for this Hogan
Haha you’re welcome brother! Ultimately, I agree with you. 6arc has some advantages but Creedmoor is so well established now it’s hard to choose something else. Thanks for watching!
Someday use the same rifle with two barrel lengths just to see the difference. Good job.
Nice
Very cool.
these videos make me want to build some new uppers
I know the feeling! This is a dangerous hobby for my wallet haha
This makes me very interested in SIGs new 6.8x51
With the hybrid case its capable of 3k in SBR configuration I think it will very hard to beat in SBR setups, which is why the military is so interested
EPR cartridge is $21.47/rd for 6.8x51, accuracy is 3-4 MOA.
It’s prohibitively expensive and hasn’t shown great accuracy results. I like the idea of it though
That Ally munitions company sent me three bricks of WLR primers that were from like 2004, and happened to be a bad lot number, and when I opened them every single sleeve has a couple of corroded primers in it like they weren't stored properly.
These primers Crack on the radius under pressure [light 308 pressure loads] and caused flame cutting on my favorite model 70 bolt face.
I've been in talks with winchester since last year, but Ally is definitely a little suspect to me after that event.
Certainly can’t speak to your specific experience but it is worth noting Winchester primers are well known to have this issue. This is a lesson I learned after etching the bolt in one of my rare SR25s. As a result I won’t ever be running WLR primers again
@MountainsMulletsMerica I have heard similar from many many people on accurateshooter now.
Just keep an eye on lot numbers of what you buy. Most companies don't peddle very old stock, but this one does. Obviously Ally didn't build the primers, but the did peddle 10 or 15 year old primers that had been stored in unhappy conditions
I've been waiting for someone to do a good video on just this (albeit, I'm more interested in a 16" setup).
Hope this video delivered the kind of value you were looking for! I’d expect the results shown here to be directional to what you’d experience with 16” barrels so hope this gives you an idea of what to expect
Thank you.
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel!
Let’s f’n Go!
That T-post is on it's last leg, no pun intended
I think we're going backwards with this thinking, but i'm gonna watch anyway
I think large frame ARs are cool, but I don't enjoy packing them over distance. I've hunted in the mountains with my LR 308 a few times and after carrying that thing a few miles up and down trails I always wonder why I brought it when I could have grabbed a bolt gun that weighs 3lbs less... I think for defending a static position or hunting out of a tree stand or whatever doesn't involve carrying one for miles, large frame ARs really shine, but I'll stick to STANAG compatible cartridges for most uses.
Get a better quality barrel (Proof) on that 6 ARC and it'll tighten up to 1/2-3/4" groups with factory Hornady loads. I was a huge large frame fan in years past but I am over the large gassers and they've all been sold and that's what pushed me into a 6 ARC. I have nearly as much in my build as my former SR25 762 but I love the small frame platform from a weight and handling standpoint. Now I am considering building a 12.5" 6 ARC for the deer blind.
I have had excellent results with Noveske 6arc barrels also
Have you considered adding a WEZ analysis to these cartridge comparisons?
I’m not familiar with WEZ analysis?
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I think it’s part of the applied ballistics software. Basically you give it parameters and it uses a random number generator with those inputs to plot hit probability
What kind of bag rider are you running? I've been looking for one for my B5, and those look perfect.
They are both the grs aluminum bag rider from euro optic
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Thank You Sir!
The ARC surprised me at 1035. Being that I already have an MWS, I'd probably just go with the creed. Honestly, I want to do a 6 creed barrel for the MWS.
A 6 creed in the mws platform seems like a dream battle rifle. Do it! I’m building a 6ARC (ar15 platform to keep it lighter) and it’s been pretty easy going so far
A 12” barrel 6.5 Creedmoor will do 3080-3160fps with the 80gr Hammer. With 100gr ELD-VT, 105gr Blitzking, and 107gr SMK, it will do 2690-2780fps. No need to mess with 6mm.
That LMT 6.5 creedmoor is a tac driver. They got that barrel dialed in.
Awesome video, though, I have both, in AR15- 6ARC and 6.5 creed in bolt. Why not have both?
100% agreed! The best answer is always to get both!
That carbine gas 6 ARC appears to have twice the recoil that it should.
But all my Faxons have been trash, so that kinda checks out.
The superlative arms adjustable gas block has been a gamechanger with my 6arc build. You can definitely get the recoil down and get it tuned in perfectly. My 6ARC is 16” without a brake and it’s not bad at all
Faxon barrels are definitely wayy over gassed. I have a Faxon 16" 6.5 Grendel, superlative block completely open, and a Flow 762 and I can still notice a little gas coming back plus it looks like a damn musket with all the gas coming out of the superlative block.
Thank you! How about 6 ARC v. 6 Creed
If costs an issue go with a 6arc upper receiver you can swap onto your current ar15 lower.
This is a great point! I didnt even think to include cost in my summary of how they compare. 6arc would be a much more cost effective option for someone that already has a small frame ar
@MountainsMulletsMerica keep it up with the great content, really enjoy your channel
you really need to try the 103gr eldx in the 6arc
Awesome, I think the 6.5 probably just a little better at distance
Are those hornady HIT indicators? Seems like quite a few false positives. Saw the light go off on some near misses..was that a one off or are they normally pretty reliable ?
I know you mentioned it somewhere, but who makes the bag riders for the B5?
It’s the grs aluminum bag rider from euro optic
I’m going to pick up a hunting rifle for my son soon. He is 10 and showing a lot of interest in longer range shooting.
I’m torn between a ruger American in 6 CM or possibly a budget ar10 in 6.5 cm.
It’s pretty hard to find a place to shoot beyond 400-500 yds where we live. So ballistically speaking either one should be perfectly sufficient.
Recoil is a big concern, he is fairly slim and has 3 younger siblings that will eventually move into it as well.
I’m leaning toward the bolt gun for improved accuracy and safety concerns.
In your experience, how does the recoil impulse compare from a 6 bolt gun to a 6.5 gasser?
I'll chime in since I have a 6 creed bolt gun and a 14.5" 6.5 creed gasser. For a recoil sensitive shooter, especially a newbie, 6 creed bolt gun all the way. Gassers are just harder to shoot well and inherently have a more violent recoil impulse. I love my 6.5 gasser, but it would be the last gun that I handed over to a younger newer shooter. A 6 creed will easily handle any big game in NA with the right bullet and shot placement.
@@zachperrego2362 thanks for the input! I appreciate it.
This may sound dumb but is down , down on the scope and up , up? The same with the windage? Or are some scopes different? Meaning is left- right and right-left?
in all my f-class shooting and recreational target shooting, I haven't really seen slower bullets hitting lower on target than the faster bullets. at least out to 1000yds anyway. it seems that natural dispersion affects the impact more so than the differences in velocities.
An example of this is in comparison of a 223 F-tr gun and a 308 F-tr gun. a good load for the 223 has an extreme spread of 30-40 fps for 20 shots, and the 308 is in the 10-15fps for 20 shots. shooting at 600 and 1000yds, the vertical dispersion between the 223 and 308 is the same. just so you know that there is a substantial amount of data, this comparison comes from a handful of barrels for each cartridge shot throughout a few years. each barrel was shot enough to need replacement, so as you can see there is a lot of rounds shot at distance.
Plugging those velocity differences into a ballistics calculator, the 223 should have at least 5 more inches of vertical dispersion at 1000 yards.
what do you think?
6 arc seems the best to use as a AR15 lower matchup, right?
What shooter app do you use to get the proper drop calculations?
It’s the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 on the App Store
I’m gonna disagree with you on the 14.5 inch barrel for DMR. It can be done, but it’s not optimal.
Key points;
1. A carbine is great for CQB and for use when you’re mounted, but it’s far less important when you’re dismounted in the field. Also, if you’re mounted you probably have machine guns on the vehicles for engaging distant targets.
2. When you’re dismounted aka light infantry In the field, that is when your DMR comes into play.
3. Consider that the USMC chose the M27 with 16.5” barrel for the standard infantry rifle and 18” for DMR.
I would bet a lot of money the USMC will bounce to the 6mm max over time. All you have to do is change the barrel on AR type rifles.
Can anyone tell me please what bag rider is being used on these b5 stocks. I have been searching the web and can’t seem to find anything comparable. Thanks
I've got my AR10 lower. Need to select my 65CM upper parts
Your data showed that the 6 ARC trajectory will be very close to 308. A 178 ELDM has super close BC and velocity from a 16” barrel will be close to what the 14.5 ARC ran
I'd like to see a 90. Grain out of the 6arc
What bag rider do you use on those B5 stocks?
What bag rider are you are using on the b5 stocks?
In commenting before I watch this as a prediction; I think the 6.5 CM will edge it out. I feel like it should have more velocity for a heavier bullet than the 6mm ARC.
Do push the Ruger American Gen 2 in 308 to its limits?
I believe the weight of the creedmoor is acceptable and worth it as an alll purpose platform
Have you ever compared the 6CM to the 6.5CM and 6 ARC?
Not yet but it’s on my to do list!
For this mission statement of 800 yards and in, and at 14.5" barrel (which is a really good length), my prediction is that the 6 ARC will have the advantage, on balance, over the 6.5 Creedmoor.
Both are great options.
I'll continue watching the video to see what your conclusions are.
Both calibers have their place but man it’s impressive what 6arc allows a small frame ar to do at distance. I got into 6arc thinking it was a fad caliber but the more I shoot it the more I like it.
Conclusion: 14.5" is, as I already believed (and use), a good barrel length for DMR. I think that the 6 ARC has the advantage in lower recoil, faster followup, and lighter platform but that the 6.5 Creedmoor has the advantage in energy and easier spotting of splash. I still think that 6 ARC is the way to go here.
@@MountainsMulletsMericayeah, definitely not a fad; 6 ARC is what 6.5 Grendel tried to be. The ARC is really good.
what bag riders are you using on the b5 precision stock?
They are the grs aluminum bag rider from euro optic
Can I suggest a 3rd rifle chambered for 308 Win? This would be a great side by side comparison for us old school shooters… 👍😁
Oh man I’ve compared both of these rifles to my 308s in previous separate videos. I’m a big 308 fan so it was a blast to see how these new calibers compare. Check those videos out when you have time and let me know what you think!
