To be honest I couldn't take playing through this game. I gave up after trying to play through all the stages. It's been so long since I tried to play this trainwreck of a game, but yeah I looked up because I don't want to play that nightmare again and Snipe Anteator has a good voice to.
Barry Gjerde should be on par with the likes of Troy Baker today. Such a fantastic gruff tone and a lot more range that people give him credit for. I could listen to him talk all day
Red at least sounds pretty decent, even If he was voiced by the same guy who gave us the immortal "Jill Sandwich" line in the 1st Resident Evil Game. I honestly thought Sigma sounded like a bad impersonation of Dr. Claw.
Red is the single most underrated character. Sigma was genocidal Darwinist, the Repliforce wanted to separate from humanity, Gate wanted a new world built on the blood of the "foolish," but Red (at first) merely wanted to hunt down mavericks before the crime rate choked what little life was left out of the world. Sadly he fell from grace, retaining only a misguided loyalty that compelled him to fight and die with his men than surrender as the lone survivor of Red alert.
I don’t think his loyalty was misguided. Sigma put him in a lose-lose situation. He was stalking red alert behind the scenes and manipulating them. Then revived them and turned them against red..I feel so bad for Red. He didn’t ask for sigma to come along
@@surge1533 implied in the fight against Axl “thanks to the professor we’ve ADVANCED but we still have been reduced to this” he knew what was coming...again I understand a little but i truly believe he meant no harm or knew sigmas intent all along but had very little to I choice. They were against the maverick hunters and he didn’t have Axl. Red himself is very old. Albeit capable but not enough for sigma. Idk I feel bad for him when I see his fate...he lets himself die implying the ENTIRE accident was his fault rather than blame red alert.
I like how both Red and Snipe Anteator, the two characters in X7 who imo have decent voice acting by X7 standards, both have the same voice actors. I really wish that "OVER HERE!!!" line in the battle against Red didn't happen though. It really cripples his overall voice acting quality for me.
I honestly don't mind Red's voice, it's moreso his delivery on certain lines of dialogue I can't stand listening to, almost sounds like I'm hearing something out of a kindergarten storybook or something. "What....do...you....mean?" Either than or he'll abruptly start another sentence after another without any pause.
The sad thing is that Barry "Red" Burton is one of the better-voiced characters in a game that's better off being... *puts on sunglasses* burned to the ground.
"Noooo! Red, you're coming with uuuuus!" That line made me burst out laughing when I first played this game through the Legacy Collection. Listening to it later the childish delivery kinda makes sense in a way. Red does say that Axl's "still young", after all.
This, but with better voice acting? Not much to imagine there... I want 3D X gameplay from this game revisited and improved, for example making it faster like the 2D games, but I know that's unlikely to happen.
So, Sigma was facinated by Axl's copy abilities. He needed that data to nit oy empower and corrupt teploids to follow him with the copy abilities but also wanted to maybe(?) evolve into a new kind of reploid. Sounds like a decent plot. Thinking about it now, Red Alert kept referring Sigma as the "professor". Maybe, in his metallic life after X6, he earned a professor's degree in machinery and robotics, so maybe either he or some other scientists have used Axl's data to create the new generation reploids. Think back to Dark Dizzy/ Dark Necrobat and how he was created by Sigma. Maybe Sigma was involved in the creation of the X8 bosses that can't be corrupted by any and all viruses because the data in the new generation reploids' copy chips which can change these reploids' DNA making them immune to viruses have Sigma in the robotic genetic code. Because of which, they chose to be bad anyway. Thus, this indicates that Sigma went maverick on his own accord perhaps without the need of the maverick virus' corruption. Speaking of which, when encountering the last Sigma boss as Axl in X8, it seemed like this is the first time Sigma has ever encountered Axl. If that's the case, then maybe the Sigma from X8 is the real Sigma from the first game all the way to X6. As for Sigma from this game, X7, it could be a duplicate to maybe earn a orofessor's degree in irder to use the knowledge for the real Sigma's benefit while the real Sigma was prepping for the new world as he was recovering on the moon. It kinda makes a lot of sense considering his interest in Axl's copy abilities as a means for the new world plan.
By Cod! I wonder if he calls Axl the master of shape shifting and tells him that it is useful, especially for disguises before he became a Red Sandwich at the end.
@SergeiEisenstein Yeah, I thought Walter Roberts (Sigma) and Jack Melruzzi (Zero) were outstanding. Vile is awesome, I but I'm sticking with Dr. Doppler as the best sub villain. He, Red, and Vile are all tougher than Lumine.
I don't know specifically about the Megaman X localization team, but Barry Gjerde (who voices Red) was what I heard to be one of the translators for CAPCOM. Resident Evil 1 never had Japanese voice acting to begin with, so it SEEMS that they just hired the nearest English-speaking dudes to do voices in it. I don't know if CAPCOM ever expected Resident Evil to even come out in the US. American movies are extremely popular in Japan and they probably just wanted to have the ~Cool Foreign Horror Movie~ style to it, and thought most Japanese people wouldn't even notice how awkward the lines were when spoken in English. Or maybe the Japanese people who made it genuinely just couldn't tell good from bad English voice acting. I've heard that they weren't exactly bad translations, just way too literal, like the translators didn't really think about natural-feeling script writing over just getting translations done and clear. Barry Gjerde is also originally from Norway, so I'm not entirely sure how good his English was to begin with during 1996. But his American accent is flawless, to say the least! So I don't really know. As for X7, they definitely had Japanese voice acting originally, but somehow still hired pretty amateur people. It's possible CAPCOM was just being cheap and hired translators again, so they didn't have to hire some big-shot voice acting agency from Hollywood. (edited for bad grammar) Oh, also-- I should mention I never played X7. I'm just a big fan of Barry's wonderful old man voice. Poor guy is super underrated nowadays. Sorry for so much text! Hope this educates people a little bit.
Like many other Japanese games from that time, X7 was dubbed by native English speakers living in Japan. Not all of those actors are bad, but many of them don't have a formal training in acting, and they're often not given voice direction because the voice directors don't speak english.
Red is probably the only one who has a good voice acting in this game XD
Don't forget Signas, Barry Burton, the original Jill Sandwich Barry Burton
+Acrox Shadow Signas is played by The original Eng Dub of Alucard in SOTN.
True.

X said he had 0 interest in fighting and red took that as he’s a big talker 🤣🤣. Wtf lol
Sigma sounds like he had too many smokings. LAWL
I actually think the voice suits Red perfectly.

Snipe Anteator may suck in battles.

Yes I love red voices who the voices actor. Red is father finger to ax
Red is hero

Not really everyone but go on.
Sigma: don't you think it's wasted?
Red: WHAT
Sigma: also I-
Red: DO
Sigma: found so-
Red: YOU
Sigma: ...
Red: MEAN?!
???
Sigma: T_T

Sigma sounds like a ghoul from fallout
It was really heartbreaking for Axl to watch Red die.

I kinda feel sad for Red at 6:36-6:57 , He was like a father figure to Axl
