Picked these up today and finally got away from turtle beach. Honestly the integrated mic is amazing! It’s such a small thing but not having that in your face is nice. My favorite feature though is being able to play music from my phone but still talk with the boys. $230.00 is a bit much but honestly if you can swing it I would highly suggest doing so. Excellent review man👍🏾

Lots of great features but I have trouble getting mine to actually mute when pressing the mute button. People can still here me when it’s switched off. App doesn’t recognize my headset is near. Also the mic placement is too close to the face. Too bad it doesn’t swivel like the rest.
I still think the Logitech G Pro X are way superior to these for almost the same price tag. You can even find the G Pro X for a little cheaper. Still a great headset. Great review!
I got these (the PS5 one) not too long ago, and at first, I LOVED them. Now I am experiencing an issue with them…I almost always use them wired, and they keep turning off randomly, every 15 minutes or so. They’re connected wired, and to my phone via Bluetooth. It’s like they go into sleep mode constantly and I have to stop what I’m doing and click the power button for them to turn back on. This happens with my PS5, my Steam Deck, and Switch. Not sure why this happens but it’s annoying as hell
I've been searching all over for the answer to this question... For console gaming using a wired headset means plugging into the wireless controller (for the most part). That being said what produces better sound an affordable wired headset like HyperX CloudX plugged into the controller or a wireless headset like the A30's via 2.4ghz dongle plugged directly into the console? I know you have be be careful which wired headset you use because the controller can only output so much power. Thank you!
I’m not sure how true this is, but from my personal experience, when I plugged my headset into the controller, I noticed it would lose some bass. So my guess would be using it wirelessly with the console would be better. But at the same time, maybe the wireless audio signal (or whatever) the xbox gives out lacks some detail. Your best bet would probably be you plug your headphones into your TV if you can, I think I noticed it having better bass that way, so maybe the audio signal passing through the hdmi is better. I’m not sure how accurate this is though
Sound is not on par for the price and the mic is terrible. So for 230 the price is just too high when there is something like the Corsair HS80 is out there. The replacement tag idea and even the pads in terms of design is terrible since they will be too expensive for something you mostly use at home. The connectivity features are really cool but at the end of the day the input and output sound are the most important (fails at both) apart from the comfort.
Using HS80 myself. HS80's wireless mic can compete or even outcompete the wired version of A30. And at THAT price for A30, it's a joke, immediately makes all the positives irrelevant.
@@BuffedPotato Not just that, the sound of the HS80 is really good as well, and since the clampforce is chosen perfectly I think it's way more comfortable. And you can configure it in Windows with a proper EQ section, and it supports Dolby Atmos on windows (comes with a free license). I have both (I am a reviewer) and the fact that the HS80 exists is a problem for the A30. And indeed, the mic is probably even better than the A30's in wired mode. I thought the were talking nonsense when they said it was 'studio quality'. Now obviously it's not real stereo quality, but you can easily use it as f.e. an early podcasting solution. I actually did a job interview with it, which was a dumb choice. It worked fine audio-wise, I probably had the best audio, but in a professional environment, I was that guy with a gaming headset...
@@djoetma I see no problem in doing a job interview with a quality mic and HS80 doesn't give obnoxious gamery vibes, it's just a headset that does the job and it does it very well. Is there any wireless headset that's actually better than HS80 currently?
I had to come back to this video because I needed a headset that I can hear my phone with as I'm gaming and I remember you saying who would use all 3 at the same time thanks for advice these are next purchases

I have the original first generation a30s. One side is held together by superglue and electrical tape where the plastic cracked (where you would extend the headset size) last year. Works perfectly fine besides that all these years later. The rubber on the mixer that came with it has turned into sticky soft goo so i don't use it anymore. Tired of cables so last month was looking for a similar style to the simplistic a30 design but wireless, in a world full of gigantic ugly Gamer headsets. Was excited when i seen these just came out. But that top part popping out is a deal breaker for $230. Companies are getting out of hand with their pricing, everything is unreasonably overpriced. They are just headphones, this technology has existed for decades. The hell they charging over $200 for plastic headphones? Its not like some new cutting edge audio technology. Thanks for the review, much appreciated.
The a50s are a way better value. At least i know why they expensive. But these cheap plastic headphones are not worth it. These don’t even have an optical in. At this price.

I fr thought the same thing
You prolly don’t even own them your opinion is invalid
@@pushingp8413 why does that matter 😂 you can hear them in the video.
They have a better mic you can buy as well
These being A30s I was expecting a bit more of a budget headset. It's a good product for the price but I think at that price I might as well save up another $70 and go with the VZR model ones or go a step higher and get the HiFiMan Sundaras
Crazy that the built in is quite superior to the external
C'est surtout du vol pour ce prix
These are great, but they need to update the A50s already because the 2019 version does not work with the new xbox or playstation. At all.
Yeah they do... update them via a computer and then you'll just plug in using the USB (not optical) and walla. If you don't have a computer ya might be in a bad situation.
@@Jack_BT-7274 Buddy, the consoles have no optical port. The update does absolutely nothing but ruin the intended experience of listening to them with optical. No amount of software updates will fix that. If you honestly thought that reply was "smart", you have bigger problems than a giant ego.
would love a new a50 with simultaneous bluetooth… also been using the gen 3 a50’s for 4 years, love ‘em, simply plug the optical from the base station into your tv’s optical port and the usb into your xbox for chat/power. this setup works 100%, all eq’s settings work and can be adjusted on pc/mac, or astro console app, dolby surround also works 100%, try it!
You use the Logitech g mobile app for settings there is no Astro app, it says on the back of the box
How does it compare to the steelseries arctis nova 7?
not me watching this video wearing my brand new Astro A30 headphones lol
Do they randomly go into sleep mode every 15 minutes for you?
I wish reviewers would talk more about mic monitoring levels. Other than sound that is my number 1 function when it comes to purchasing a headset. Lucidsound ls40 was for me the hands down best at it. But after a few years the headband cracked. I go through many headsets because no reviews talk about it. I want to be able to have a louder side tone. I lost a lot of functions on my Lucidsound going from my PS4 to PS5 or I would just buy another set. PLEASE SOMEONE TALK ABOUT HOW LOUD THE MIC MONITORING IS!
@The Techne wow the mic sounds when in bluetooth mode with the mic attached but when its using the on-board mic it sounds good you can hear the bass in your voice. and running it with the mic attached running it 3.5mm sound like a USB XLR mic. really clear sounds awesome.
just subbed because i love the honesty and energy lol thanks you
I'm so glad to see Astro bringing back the A30s. I've owned several pairs of Astros, The A40s, The A50s as well as the A30s and the A38. And of every pairs I've ever owned the A30/A38 was my favorite as far as comfort goes. I unfortunately lost them in a natural disaster some years back and was disappointed to see they weren't available last time I tried to buy something from Astro. Definitely going to pick up a A30 soon.
are the astro a30 good?
@@crispy_toast07 I have not picked up the new A30s yet. But I trust Astros headsets and my last pair of A30s were solid.
How do you compare the a40s to something like the a30s as far as sound quality goes ?
@jordankerslake7374 Honestly, im not a huge audiophile, so my comparison is going to be juvenile.
A30s - Solid sound, good comfort, lose a little on the bass, I couldn't tell much of a difference in the mid to highs. A30s microphone is good, but I prefer the A40s.
A40s - Solid Bass, Good on the mid to highs, incredibly comfortable but not as Portable as the A30s. Prefer the A40s microphone.
@@Nikjamesz ya I got a40s but I go through the wires from head set to mix amp every couple months it’s annoying cause I gotta order a couple at a time
I wish their was a more precise perspective on the reviews for headsets 😂 it’s almost always 50/50 with is it good or is it bad😢
i got them the other day, definitely worth while for comp gaming especially games like rainbow and cod where you need to hear footsteps,
Did u adjust the audio settings or did u use the gaming Footsteps audio on the app?
Why does the thumbnail look like techne is the middle of giving sloppy top
Hi Techne, I'm Tobi from Germany. First I have to apologize for my english, espacially for my writing. I really have to thank you. I was on a long journey to find the right headset, and man I bought the Lucidsound LSX, the Turtlebeach Stealth 700 Gen 2, the Steelseries Arctis 9X, the Astro A50, but I never get satisfied. Then I saw your test of the Penrose Audeze. It was not really easy to get it in germany at a fair price, but now I get it and I have to say: Absolutly outstanding! It's a shame that in germany nearly nobody knows Audeze! Come to a conclusion: THANK YOU TECHNE!!!!!!
Ich fand die audeze recht unbequem ...und habe sie zurückgeschickt..
Nutzt du sie am pc oder an der Konsole...bin immernoch auf der Suche nach einem guten ps5 headset
That mic with the 3.5 sounds beautiful
Sounds as good as his condenser mic if you ask me!
Can you do these vs nova pro wired/ wireless? Do they even compare or is nova 7x more on par with the a30?
When you said $230 I was out 😂🤣😂
Best Buy has them for 168 Canadian
@@SilverFox_82i dont care
It’s worth it I just bought they are insane
$179 at BBY now

looking at the right side of the headband at 4:14 and wondering if it's already coming off or what is that gap there? looks not very good... which is a bummer 'cause the headset itself looks amazing! love the shiny plates! so much better than RGB imho
How does the built-in mic sound so much better than the attachable mic? That makes no sense. The Corsair HS80 is still the king with their mic.
I think for $230 I would choose the Steelseries Nova 7x with the leatherette ear pads. They’re cheaper and sound phenomenal!
I got the 7x and bought the leatherettr ear pads they are sooo much better than the sport wesve cushions
@@punchyo_1175 DO you have a link for the leatherettr ear pads thanks.
where can I get the leatherette ear pads?
Wondering if these would be a better buy than the hyper X cloud alpha. Which ones sound better. Mostly just use them for call of duty. So mic and audio are main concerns
Mine will arrive tonight, so really excited what to expect.
In my experience, Astro always has quality control issues. They don't use proper detents on their headsets. They're always over priced. Sound clarity is an issue. I've been burned too many times with Astro to give them anymore of my money, but I wish them the best.
me too and when u need help dont look for any
I was looking for a new pair because the Xbox wireless headset showed to be trash :/ (built quality is bad and the connectivity only works if you pay 80 (used to be around 20€) for a dongle that doesn't come in the box...)
Any idea about the blackshark v2 pro or steel series arcis 9x?

Is this better than Turtle Beach Stealth 700 gen 2 (max or the older ones)? Similar features. Does this come with phone app or how does it work? Do eq changes save to headset when using with 3,5 mm?
anything turtle beach is garbage, take my advice.
@@SSJDON- That is where I have to disagree with you. :) They used to be hmm... gamery. No more. :) I have used Turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2:s for 1,5 years on PS5 and XSX + PC. Great review Keep up the good work 👍
Wow. You got these quick.

Up in price yeah, but you gotta look into all the features this headset is packing.
Comparable would be the Corsair Virtuoso
Does the usb transmitter have a switch for Xbox and PC?
Should i get this one or the NOV7 P. Please help me
What exactly is this doing different than the Arctis Nova 7x that warrants $50 more?

I’m just going to wait until the price drops on these headsets because 270 is a bit to much for these. If they where about 170.00 that would’ve been cool.
theyre like £210 now
If my Rick and Morty plates from my old A40s fit, I’m completely sold
Picked these up today and finally got away from turtle beach. Honestly the integrated mic is amazing! It’s such a small thing but not having that in your face is nice. My favorite feature though is being able to play music from my phone but still talk with the boys. $230.00 is a bit much but honestly if you can swing it I would highly suggest doing so. Excellent review man👍🏾
I'm between the A30 wireless or the steelseries arctics nova pro, what would you chose guys?
Same thing I am stuck on
What u choose
Techne has been on the grind!! Much respect
I love these, best headset ive ever had, the multi connection is so good I play on pc but my friends play on playstation so i have to use my phone to join the ps party, these allow me to hear everything from my phone and the game crystal clear with no lag, music sounds pretty good too not music headphones but they sound great for that too, also the logitech app on your phone allows you to customize the sound and mic.
Did that headband also pop out for you aswell or no
230$ you almost had me. 😂
Lots of great features but I have trouble getting mine to actually mute when pressing the mute button.
People can still here me when it’s switched off.
App doesn’t recognize my headset is near.
Also the mic placement is too close to the face. Too bad it doesn’t swivel like the rest.
Should I go to this from a Turtle Beach Stealth 700 gen 2?
I still think the Logitech G Pro X are way superior to these for almost the same price tag. You can even find the G Pro X for a little cheaper. Still a great headset. Great review!
I just checked on Amazon you can get the G pro X for 95€ while the astro a30s for 250... 😅
You’re comparing a headset with zero additional features to one that has plethora of them?
G pro x suck, only good thing is the mic. I've been through 2 pairs already
They have no bluetooth though????
@@RainTheUpriser the logitech g pro x2 does have Bluetooth

Not made by the same company. Obviously not the same product. This is made by Logitech now
YOOO SOMEONE WHO REALLY KNOWS THEIR HEADSETS!! THe surround sound with the mix amp pro in bo2 days was op 💯💯

@@xavyayqc9637 just get a mod mic that’s what everyone does anyway no matter the headset.
I LOVE these headphones they are great havent had any issues so far so i approve of these and recommend them.
how are they still? considering to buy one
@@johnmorson7003 they are still amazing nothing has broke I actually really like them
I've been searching all over for the answer to this question...
Hello! Which one would you recommend as a wired headset, the Steelseries Nova 1 or the Razer Kaira X? Thanks in advance.
Loving the goatee brother!
been waiting for a review on these and glad it was you.. now my question these vs the arctis nova 7's which one would you choose?!
Which is better between astro a 30, maxwell and turtle beach stealth pro?
Sound is not on par for the price and the mic is terrible. So for 230 the price is just too high when there is something like the Corsair HS80 is out there.
The replacement tag idea and even the pads in terms of design is terrible since they will be too expensive for something you mostly use at home.
The connectivity features are really cool but at the end of the day the input and output sound are the most important (fails at both) apart from the comfort.
Yea. I thought the mic sounded terrible. If they were 150 i would say that was fair. They are €250 here in the EU.
@@garethg8226 Even for 150 ( ignoring all the other features) that mic is terrible. Look up how the HS80 sounds.
Why is it so difficult to connect it to PC? Half the time the mic just wont pick up and work.
whats the biggest headset you have thats for big heads and glasses and for console

Does this headset work with the mixamp Pro when using 3.5?
Yes
So I replaced a faulty Logitech Pro X for these and found there is no software like Logitech G Hub for the pc? How do you change any settings like 7.1 surround sound ect?
Can you show your EQ settings for the A30? I liked your EQ settings for the Kaira Pro and would like to know what EQ settings you would recommend for the A30.
Are you going to review skullcandy slyr and plyr by any chance?
a bit lost here. i'm highly interested about buying this headset, yet i am wondering ; if i buy the PS version, would i be able to still play with this headset on my Series X ? for the moment, only the PS version is available near my local shop so, i don't know if i can buy this version but still have the full potential.
i just got them in and i never was able to wear headphones like that but these are soooo comfortable

Using 3.5mm will your eq settings work or will it be default sound??
Astro a30 vs steelseries nova 7x ??
The headband keeps opening up top, I am afraid after a while it will become open and stay that way. Anyone else have this issue? I watched videos and it looks like all the reviews have this issue.
I might come off as a negative Nancy in the comments under your videos, but I follow you for your perspective which wouldn't have much value if they were the same as mine. You clearly put in a ton of work in these reviews and you tell the story from the perspective of what use a product was aimed at. I highly appreciate this channel.
Just wanted to say that since I placed some negative opinions about the product here.
Nah bro I agreed with what you were saying lol
Ive been saying that for years. Its crazy what these companies charge
The a50s are a way better value. At least i know why they expensive. But these cheap plastic headphones are not worth it. These don’t even have an optical in. At this price.
I had the OG xbox 360 a30s also that's why I'm here 😢 I loved that 7.1 surround sound with the og mix Amp pro
