Great video however I would not invest in rack gear unless you have a basement or a separate area that's cooled. Rack gear puts off heat and it's loud as hell. I don't have a basement so I prefer tower workstations such as the Dell Precision.

With RAM, you can usually checkout Crucial's website. Also, you have to consider what rank your RAM is and what configurations are supported. For example, a server may have 24 slots, but only 12 are able to be populated with quad-rank RAM. Dell server documentation details those types of information.

Hi Rod, I wanted to ask you how is the electric consumption? I would like to buy a server, I have eve-ng on my PC, but even with 16 Gb and i7 cpu sometimes it is not enough, is it recommended to turn on the server every time you do the practices? what do you think? best regards

They're expensive, ~$200/month to run the servers. I run them 24/7. You can do whatever you want with yours.

hey Rob first and foremost thanj you for this video, wish i watxhed in a month ago,i really had a hard time deciding, and good thing i found this video as well as subscribed and hit that bell button! i wanted to know regarding the Cisco SD wan been reading that the Vm needs 24vCpu does that mean thise are equivelent to 24 VM im trying to solidify knowldge in this ,now i want i want to know from processor point of view witj phy cpus and cores and logical cpus how does one determine which one to pick? Secondly like myself im not able to get license / well say rather afford a license with esxi as from what i read if one gets free license there is a limitation on how many vCpus can be assigned per Vm,is there an alternate hypervisor that can allow one to assign 24vCpus? as im pursuing IE in EI😂😂,and being unemployed as i got myself Ine premium access which is great with on web labs with its new featurea on Tasks and Solutions, issue im having is SD wan not available yet,i know there is option on Cisco once one clears Encore ,there are labs @$50 for 4 hours to reserve n tinker around, main aim is having ability to do this in my house,n being in Africa -Zanzibar somethings are a bit hars as im self funded, have attempted SP v3 but didnt clear way back then was it well long time ago, darn i hope you understood me lmao ,thanks jn advance Brother

Really like your videos! Quick Question that is not related to this topic- do you think that it is pointless to go after ccnp collaboration? i'm about to finish with ccna and thinking what to do next. Currently have no experience in IT (Damn you COVID19!!) but i really enjoy playing with the voip phones in my home lab.
The problem is that i believe that in few years this cert will be useless. what are your thoughts?
BTW you should do some Q&A live streams. you seem to be very knowledgeable and i believe it will help your viewers (And Me!) alot

    • @RobRikerTechChannel
      @RobRikerTechChannel  4 года назад +2

I don't think it's pointless, especially if you have no experience in IT, you need some way to prove/show you know what's up. How else do you plan to differentiate yourself from me? I like playing with technology as well, kind of why i have a YT channel lol. I couldn't disagree with you more on the certs, you don't have to get any. If you feel that way, don't get them, it's your call. I think they will always hold some value, what that means to you will vary from person to person.
I've been thinking of doing Q&As but my schedule lately just hasn't been conducive of a live stream. Maybe soon.

For me the management with templates is better in gns3. Your are also more flexible with folders and subfolders and there are also templates on the marketplace available.. you can also edit the Interface names and choose which nic has which type of virtual nic.

@@it-fre4ki hey do you still use 3950? Would your recomend it? I am deliberating between investing into Dell r730, or just upgrade my PC to 3950x/128gb. Server opens so many possibilities, but with the release of Ryzen 7000 series -> the price of 3950x should drop and it is just so tempting.

Just a heads up, that $300 can run out pretty quickly if you build anything remotely robust. For $400, you can have a T420 Dell server in your possession(ebay-reddit). Add another $200/year for a VMware VMUG advantage subscription, and you have all the tools you need.

Hello Rob Riker's Tech! I liked your channel! Thank you for sharing your knowledge in the telecommunications area.
If possible I would like your help!
I have a client needing up a block of public ipv4 / 32, I have a communication with this client in vlan with private ipv4 / 30. If possible I would like to know how I could carry out this communication without having a NAT or CGNTA and my edge router. In my Infrastructure I have an Edge router BGP ASR9001S and another ASR9001S where it runs all blocks of public ipv4 and ipv6 being forwarded to my corporate clients vlans with blocks of ipv4 / 30. Would it be possible to perform this configuration? Below the example I have of configuration!
    !
    Loopback interface0

Not without some form of NAT to my knowledge. Somewhere you'll have to translate private to public.
