I'm digging that Telecaster and pedal steel! John Hiatt can write songs that have you rolling on the floor laughing out loud (and can't be played on the air), and then turn around and write a beauty like this, with great lyrics! It's no wonder many folks of all genres of music have covered his songs. 👍
One of the most beautiful songs . The lyrics.. Incredible. Such a remarkable SongWriter. Only one like him! Melts my heart evertime I listen to it! Thanks for your words John Hiatt...
I saw him with the Queens in Knoxville, TN at the Tennessee Theater this same year. I was front row and amazed. Still have the same love for John Hiatt now as in the 80's.
One of my ALL time favorite songs (Damn - JH is a genius with his words - so visual). Never knew he was a Billy Jo Shaver fan.....Both have been on Delbert's cruise honoring the songwriter shows, but I don't think they were on the same year. Thanks again for sharing these videos!
I love this song. I have been a big fan of John Hiatts since Willy Nelson included The Most Unoriginal Sin on one his albums. I have since seen him several times at the Warfield in San Francisco. He puts on a great show every time, and it is amazing to hear how many great songs he has written. But this one may be his best.
The very best songs don't just paint a picture, they burn it into our minds indelibly. This one sure does. Can't you just see a lanky cowboy with rough hands, scuffed boots and a cracked leather jacket sitting at the bar when this frosty blonde in a short skirt sidles up to him? And then theres Hiatt's "Lipstick Sunset".....
the most beautiful song by one of my favourite songwriters. Thanks for posting. For my money, Emmylou's version is better still - it seems so suited to her voice: fragile, haunting and majestic.
#ugottalisten2b4udie Should I start to turn what's been frozen for years into a river of tears ? He said, girl, you're a beauty like I've never witnessed & I've seen the northern lights dancin' on air
I saw you perform at a club in 😢Scottsdale. The man who learned this song for me introduced me to you…🎉 he died in a little hospital in mesa. Sent me a text. It said please come see me. I’m aaALONE WITH NO FRIENDS. again. Bring me a cigarette. …and then he died? Of a STAFF INFECTION. THAT THE HOSPITAL GAVE HIM.
John is one tremendous songwriter. And this is a heartbreaker

WOW..He wrote this song about me,the pain in my heart can not be melted from the pain, the cure for the pain is the pain..
Maybe that yodel in Hiatt's voice thawed it a bit though?
Great song. Hiatt is a genius.

No offense to Immy, but Michael Ward is what this song needs!
Nothing like being thankful for somebody else's work to be inspired huh? I like Emmylou Harris version but I like also this one from John.
The last real soulsinger..
Too fast!
