Spent over 40 winters in Pittsburgh. 4 different blizzards, 1st in 1988. 1 winter in my late teens I remember 1 week where I had solid 1 to 2 inch thick ice covering my entire car. Can't not forget 92 and 93 blizzards.

Winters can be both very cold for periods, and very wet - snow, ice, rain. This past winter was unusually warm and snowless. The worst thing for me is the overall GRAYNESS of Pittsburgh skies.

Great Video! I grew up in Pgh. Back in the 60's and 70's. It seemed like we had snow on the ground from December to March! January thaw, meant that we could see the concrete for the first time! and it got into the 40's for a short time! I moved to Kentucky back in 1980. Don't miss the long cold dreary months of winter in the "Burgh". But Pgh. has changed for the better since I moved! So The people who are thinking about moving to Pgh. Do it! I'm 63, I hate the cold! LOL.But that's just me! I still have family who I go see. I love watching your videos of my hometown young lady! Keep it up!👍

I lived my first 58 years all around Texas (but mostly in Dallas area). I have spent 3 winters in Pittsburgh now and honestly the winters have been no big deal. This last winter was weird with almost no snow, but the previous were about the same. My points are:
    1) The street crews do a great job of clearing snow. So even if it snows overnight the streets are clear before noon. (Texas could get ice on the roads for days).
    2) The temperatures are colder than Dallas but not really. What I mean by that is cold temperatures in Dallas almost always comes with wind. Pittsburgh gets a lot of those perfect winter days where it is in the 20's but the sun is shining bright and there is no wind.

I don’t know why moving to Pittsburgh videos started showing up on my feed. Never been there or even thinking of it. Now I’m gonna look into it. Maybe it’s a sign. 😂

Firstly: thank you for this information, I have been looking for a breakdown of the winter weather in Pittsburgh and I absolutely love this. It's exactly what I needed.
Secondly: I live in Vermont and am looking at moving; I wanted somewhere warmed but the Burg is somewhere I know I like, and is at least warmer. I have driven on dirt and paved mountain roads for all of my driving life. I can tell you this:
WINTER TIRES OVER AWD. AWD is not important until you are on a steep hill, and even then, tires matter much more (and the only that that matters going downhill). I really hate folks buying crossovers and terrible, high riding vehicles that are essentially pointless (more ride height ruins handling - I am a life long car enthusiast and mourn the loss of lower cars) just for AWD. I would suggest a limited slip dif if you can get a car with that, or awd lower cars, but really 2wd and really good tires are what you need. I have driven cars like these on the rost of VT mountain roads in snowstorms, and PASS crossovers routinely.

You have a lot of New Yorkers in Vermont, who cant drive worth a darn under good conditions! Springtime (trees budding) probably happens a month sooner in Pa, compared to New England, depending on how much closer to Canada you are.

This winter is unusually cold here in Japan. The sea of Japan side might have 32 inches of snow next week. I have to go grocery shopping in advance. I stay at home as much as I can to stay warm. I am not a winter person. Something I enjoy in winter is hot chocolate.

I had to move out of the Pittsburgh area around 1983 because of the massive layoffs in Conrail, the steel mills and Westinghouse. Just prior to moving out I was traveling on the Parkway eastbound toward the Squirrel Hill tunnels at night time during a snowstorm. I hit a massive pothole, blew the tire out and watched in horror as my full wheel cover (hubcap) flew through the air and down into the river.
Love Pittsburgh, winter weather and all.

This winter was weird near Pittsburgh! We only had a couple days of below 0⁰ temperatures, then basically mild temperatures.

Can someone local comment on how snow was this recent winter ? Like Dec 2022 to March 2023 ?? I am wanting to compare it to Columbus OH. This year we got exceptionally little snow. I think the most snowfall was back in Dec. and it was only a couple inches if I recall. I believe my child only had 1 snow day this year and maybe 1 2hr delay. I remember too seeing an article that for the first time ever Columbus had no measurable snowfall in the month of Feb. Just small flurries/dusting. So I was wondering did PITT see similar things or was there still a lot of snow for you this winter ??
