At 6:54 u said that the sony e 50mm f1.8 pushes out to 75mm ... i think that since it is an aps-c lens it has 50mm focal length on the sony alpha aps-c lineup...
Full-Frame Equivalent, i.e. A 75mm full-frame lens on a full-frame camera would give the same angle of view as the 50mm of a camera with an APS-C sensor.
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills so the sony e 50mm f1.8 is 50mm on full frame and (1.5*50mm=75mm), f2.7 on aps-c?... and can u tell me that is the sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN is 45mm f2.1 on aps-c body? then which lens can provide 50mm f1.8 on apsc?
Varun Dhaka - a 35 prime on an APS-C camera is close to a 50mm equivalent. It’s always important to add the word ‘equivalent’ because focal length doesn’t actually change - just the angle of view when the sensor size changes.
Superb video and explanation of all the various lenses- been searching for days for such a well presented and easy to understand overview! I have the kit 16-50mm on my Sony mirrorless camera (no in body stabilization) and recently added the E50F1.8OSS to my bag. Everyone raves about the Sigma 16mm but I would like a lens with OSS so which Sony should I choose? (plus I love SONY and would like to stick with them if poss!).
wow really good :) I'm soon going to get hands on the sony a6600 and was wondering which lens to start with and this video really helped me :) thanks a lot !
I’m about to by my first Mirrorless. With my budget I’m between a6000 and Zeiss FE 35mm 2.8 or a6300 and E 35mm 1.8. What to do? Or maybe a6000 and FE 55mm 1.8?
André Moura - the 50 or 55 will make excellent portrait lenses while the 35 focal length offers a ‘standard’ angle of view suitable for environmental (full figure) portraiture. Both of the lenses you name are designed for full frame so although a little more expensive will allow you to transition to full frame cameras in the future. Both cameras you name have a similar image quality but the A6300 has 4K movies and is easier tot shoot action sports with lock-on AF.

A compromise between a 55-210mm and 70-200mm would be the Sony 24-240mm, roughly £700 STG, but still packs some weight. I tried it on my A6400 but it still need support as the A6400 only has SS shot and no 5 axis. I prefer the 16-70mm f4 with A6400, a great travel combo.
I have both an a6000 and a mint FF A7R. Am tempted to purchase the lovely Sony/Zeiss 55 1.8. This would have a focal length of 1.5 x focal of 55 on the Apsc and naturally be 55 1.8 on the AR7. However, a number of lens sellers ( retail) say that the lens is not compatible with both APS-C and FF? I find their conflicting advice disturbing. The last thing I want to do is have a lens of this cost not being capable with both cameras. Can someone please provide a clear answer, thanks in advance and also, on the a6000, is it not the case that the aperture also needs to be multiplied by the crop factor. Thanks in advance.
All e-Mount lenses can move between APS-C and Full Frame cameras. APS-C lenses, however, have to be used in crop mode on the full frame cameras to avoid vignetting the image excessively.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Mark, sorry to waste more of your time ( if I see the line again, will pay the monthly sub for at least a few months!) however Tony Northrop, of quite fixed views- recently the Afghan girl and McMurry could simply have been left alone) has dogmatically stated in a discrete RUclips video, stated without qualification that the cropping factor of mirrorless - 1.5- and m43rds must be applied to both focal length And apeture. Your videos are amazing sir. I have a6400 and I have to shoot football match. Please suggest some lens which can shoot very nice sharp images. With good quality.
Most of the APS-C lenses that appear in this movie are less than US $500.00. The SEL 10-18 is a little more expensive but still less than US $1,000. It's hard to compete with the price of Chinese lenses because of the wages being paid to manufacture these lenses. Is their a price of a particular lens that you thought was particularly 'unreasonable'?
Most of the equivalent Fuji APS-C lenses are a little bit more expensive than Sony except for their 35mm f/2 which is $50.00 cheaper - but then it is also an f/2 rather than an f/1.8
I have got your point - you compare with another aps-c mirrorless camera. From my point of view. I'm not a pro. Photography is not even my hobby. I'm simple a father of two small children and I want to have a good indoor photos of them. On forum I have got an advice to buy a new prime lens 35mm 1.8 but with price 450 usd it's not easy.
I know this is off topic but I really respect your opinion. What is the biggest reason one should go full frame as opposed to crop? Is there that big a difference?
All full frame cameras offer Improved dynamic range and high ISO performance and shallower depth of field at the same aperture. The mark lll camera’s offer Improved ergonomics that include more custom buttons and a multiselector (joystick), improved battery performance and dual card slots. The A7Rlll has more resolution (42.4 Megapixels). The A9 has more performance for shooting action/sports including 20 frames per second, faster read/write times and zero blackout between frames. The downside of all the full frame cameras is increased weight and size and the fact that they are more expensive (including the lenses).
I have A6000 w/16-50mm kit lens and Prime 35mm f/1.8. I'm happy with them. However I would love to do outdoor portraits more. I love more creamy, unfocused bokeh background. Should I invest in Sony 50mm f/1.8 lens?
Hello Mark thank you for your content! I love it. I have a 6500 APC and I like it for the size of it. I mostly used for making movies. Some times I switch mode and enjoy making photos. For that purpose I‘m looking for a 35mm (=50mm on fullframe). Which lens would you recommend now a days, for both systems APC and Fullframe. This way I‘m flexible in case I would get a Sony fullframe on day. Thx in advance!
Thanks for a great channel, just managed to get my hands on the ZV-E10 but body only cause the kit was sold out. My intention is to use it for travel/daily/run and gun/b-roll/snapshot camera that I'm not too afraid to carry around. I was thinking of a pancake but the 20mm f2.8 doesn't seem to perform much better than the kit? I'm intending to get the 18-105 for more specific shots and filming but when it comes to a smaller lens I want to have something that I can bring the camera with me daily more like a point and shoot. What would you guys suggest? Size matters a lot for me and the smaller the better, but still give some quality shots. I know I'm asking for a lot but hoping to get some ideas ofthe closest option..
The three new APS-C lenses are tack-sharp, fast focusing and very small and light. Check out my lens review. The lenses are the 11mm f/1.8, 15mm f/1.4 G and the 10-20 f/4 G power zoom.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thanks for the tip, they do look great but a bit big for a pocket point and shoot setup. I guess I just have to accept the fact that if one goes down in size and amount of glass, like a pancake lense, the performance is not quite the same..
Mark, another simple and fabulous video. Are you constrained from recommending such superb lens for the a6000 series such as the universally lauded Sigma 16 1.4? This lens is just magic and very reasonably priced.
I have tested non-Sony lenses in the past but if the importers don’t want to give them to me on extended loan (I can’t work with a 72-hour loan period) then they do not get tested. I also don’t want to review everything as I only review what I am considering owning.
Just got a sony a6000 and will be backpacking through Australia and New Zealand, I only have the kit lense I really dont want to backpack with a bunch of lenses.what lense should I get best for landscape/city and some portraits as a allround lense? 18-105 the best?
Hi sir, will the E series and FE series lenses have the same crop factor when used with an Apsc sensor camera ? How does it act in the case of Sony E 35mm and FE 35 mm ? Please explain.
Focal lengths do not change - angle of view changes and a 1.5 crop factor has to be applied for a full frame equivalent . It does not matter if you use a 50mm APS-C lens or a 50mm Full frame lens on an APS-C camera - the angle of view is the same.
FreshYoungLeaves - adding a one stop brighter aperture to a lens doubles the weight, size and cost. I would imagine Sony does not want to create large heaven and expensive lenses for its small APS-C cameras. If low light performance is required I carry a couple of f/1.8 primes.
Hi Mark ..thank you so much for the knowledge and information you share. Do you run any similar photography courses in Melbourne ( happy to travel from Sydney to attend)??
Thank you for this informative video. Please I would like to know why you didn't include the Sony Zeiss E 24 F1.8 in your review also what about adding the teleconverters 1.4 and 2X how much would they affect sharpness especially on a cropped sensor body
Thanks very informative - however went to purchase the 18-105 but found the weight to be 427gms against the 55-210mm which I currently have - whether I will notice the extra weight when shooting I am not so shure
Thanks for the awesome video. I am going to purchase a A6500. I do mostly sports photography with the majority of it being at the bowling alley, getting action shots of bowlers. However, I will be using this camera for vacations and also doing portraits. Which lens/lenses do you recommend? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I do have sony a6000 and I would like to buy a 50mm lens. Can you explain me the difference between SEL50F18 and SEL50F18F? I know that one is fullbody and other aps-c but make difference on image quality etc? Which one do you suggest? Thanks in advance :)
Sony use the E and FE to differentiate between APS-C and full frame lenses. I have not used the FE 50. I own the E 50 and the FE 55. The E 50 is a good lens. You can see a few examples captured with tis lens here: flic.kr/s/aHskamSWfX - I suspect image sharpness between the tow 50mm lenses is close. If you think you may ever upgrade to full frame you may like to consider the FE lenses otherwise I would stick with the E lenses.
Hans Zimmer - Yes you can use an FE lens without any problems on a crop sensor E-mount camera. If you use a crop sensor lens on a full-frame camera you have to switch to APS-C mode and shoot with a reduced resolution.
In order to take Pics & Video of a music band in low light clubs, indoor and outdoor gigs which can be near or far from the stage ~ what is the best lens for the Sony A6500?
among all the lenses that was shown on this video, the 18-105mm pz is the best with a6300 for someone who does more on video than photography does it? i mean overall price, pz compatibility w gimbal etc.
Hi Mark, can you recomend which lens will fit with sony a6400 for traveling, potrait and make cooking video? I really like the sony FE 85mm f1.8, does this lens can accomodate my needs above?
I like the 85 f/1.8 and always take it with me when traveling- you may find the focal length a little long in a smaller kitchen so you may also want to look at the SEL 50 f/1.8 and the 30mm Macro. The macro will enable you to capture some close-ups of the food on the plate.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills i guess you must be pairing the 85mm with your full frame camera so i am very sure it will be great but how about if with sony a6400? It would be nice if you make a vlog to show us the quality of the picture or video when you are using sony a6400 pairing with full frame lens.
It's a good lens but I didn't have time to review all the lenses in the movie and I decided not to review the most expensive E lenses. Personally I would purchase the cheaper FE 28mm lens for use on this system.
The Sigma 30mm is more expensive than Sony's 35mm f/1.8 and does not feature OSS. I found it to be slow focussing, however, and not that sharp if used wide open. The 19mm is a very good price.
thanks Mark... where are you finding the Sony 35mm cheaper than Sigma 30mm ... Im finding the Sony at least 100 pounds or dollars more expensive ?? if I could get the 35 sony a little cheaper I would get it for sure...
The Sony 35mm is more expensive than Sigma's 30mm f/1.4. I own the Sigma and in my experience it is sharp wide open. Love the lens, though OSS would be a nice addition for video purposes.
Awesome review Mark. What lens would you suggest for food videography? I want to make food recipes (similar to TASTY overhead videos). I have a 6300 with kit lens and want to get a nicer lens.
I would take a look at the Macro and something with a wide aperture for shallow depth of field. You will need something with OSS as the camera does not have Steadyshot inside.
Hey mark I'm having trouble getting sharp images with my a6300, 50mm 1.8, and 18-105 f4. Been searching for some answers. I do hobby car photography. I find my images turn out very flat, and the edges of the car soft. Any tips or settings you can help me with? Been shooting and editing everyday trying to improve. I really want the car sharp and that 3d look.
The SEL50F18 is the lens designed for the APS-C E-Mount cameras. You would only purchase the SEL55F18Z if you were thinking of upgrading to the full-frame E-Mount Alpha cameras. The Full frame lenses are often promoted as FE lenses, e.g. FE 55 F/1.8 ZA
Hi Mark, Thank you for the overview. A question: the figures presented on the Sony APC-lenses (focal length and aperture), are they still to be converted according the crop factor in order to have a correct comparison to the FE versions?
Only if you need to work with the full-frame ‘equivalents’ - if you are used to working with the ‘actual’ focal lengths of APS-C lenses then there is no need to convert.
It's probably not fast enough for sports but it is small, light, cheap and sharp. Take a look at these images captured with this lens: flic.kr/s/aHsk9JGwGN
@@F19991 The video is titled "Choosing your next Sony Alpha APS-C E-Mount Lens"; not "Choosing your next E-Mount Lens for your Sony Alpha APs-C". The title implies that the lense are going to be Sony.
This movie targets users who are looking for a lens to follow their kit lens. The Zeiss is fine, but expensive, piece of glass so I decided to focus on the focal lengths not already covered and a cheaper prime.
Hello, i have sony nex5t aps-c emount . I would like use sigma lens it doest work my camer? How to figure out when the lens is compatible my camera?thank you
Hey Mark amazing review on these lenses. What would you recommend for full body portrait shots? I was going to get the 50f18 but you suggested that it would be good for head and shoulders. Is that still a good lens for those type of photos?
With its wide f/1.8 aperture it is still good for dropping backgrounds out of focus but you are going to have stand a lot further away from your subject. If this is something that you do not want to do you may want to look at something like the 24 or 35mm primes.
It is all relative. f/4 is the widest aperture of a telephoto lens that has a maximum aperture of f/4 and may be better than another zoom lens that has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or f/6.3 and telephoto end of the zoom range. This is why I highlight lenses such as the 50, 55, and 85 f/1.8 prime lenses.
Pls help me? My camera is the a6300, which should I pick for the portrait lens, cheap aps-c lens like sony 50mm 1.8 ? Or FE lens like Zeiss 55mm 1.8? I need the best quality, what happen if FE lens put into aps-c camera? Is it still good?
The movie shows three FE lenses including the FE 55 F/1.8 that I believe are suitable for the A6300. Click on the link in the Info gallery to see sample images from these lenses.
Daffa Naufal FE will work in the same way as a typical E mount lens.. I would go with the 50mm f1.8 due to the a6300 not having in body image stability (and the sel50f18 has OSS... The sel55f18z does not have OSS)... BUT if you plan to upgrade to the a7/a9 series in near future i would go with the 55mm
Great video, I wish I've seen it few months ago. Mark, if you don't mind me asking, why no love for SEL28F20? It's fantastic on APS-C crops because it only uses a center and it's very sharp and a great balance between 20 and 35mm. What do you think of it?
Антон Сергеевич - the FE 28 F/2 is one of Sony's best value full- frame primes. Along with the FE 85 F/1.8 it is another good option for Sony APS-C photographers who may consider going full-frame one day.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I'd like to ask? If i replace my sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn (apsc lens) to Sony FE 28mm f2... Will Sony lens work on a6000 body as a f3 lens because of crop factor?
Ayhan Çapan - if you are comparing it with any other lens you are using on an APS-C (including lenses designed for APS-C cameras) you don’t need to apply the crop factor to the aperture of only the full frame lens. If you apply it to this lens you need to apply it to the Sigma as well. You only need to apply the crop factor if you are wanting to know the full-frame equivalent visual effect. If you apply the crop factor to the FE 28 F/2 to understand that it behaves like a 42mm f/3 lens on a full frame camera (same angle of view and same depth of field) then you would also have to apply the crop factor to the 30mm f/1.4 that it behaves like a 45mm f/2.1 lens on a full-frame camera. If you don’t own a full frame camera there is not much point in doing the maths.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you so much. Now i get it... And What do you think, better i replace my Sigma 30mm f1.4 to Sony FE 28mm f2. I need to spend like extra 200usa dollars... Would it worth? I think Sony would focus more properly and snappier. And seems like focusing is much more silent for videos with Sony... Do you recommend? Thank you...
Fair enough. However RUclips has a number of "quality" lens comparison videos comparing e.g. Sigma Art primes and Sony GM's. Also for more impoverished souls like me confined to the excellent a6000 series, the Sigma 16 1.4 (and maybe others) could be worth visiting. Btw: without doubting the quality of Sony FF's , the pricing of the A9 and siblings is financially marginlising many shooters who , absent high entry costs, may otherwise be tempted. Fwiw: pricing alone will see many keen shooters remain in the Apsc format.
The A6000 is Sony’s best selling Alpha camera but most enthusiasts skip the 6300 and 6500 for the full frame cameras (driven by pier pressure, camera reviews and status). I suspect many of these users don’t use the full frame advantage most of the time (the resolution of the R or the fast and reliable AF of the 9). The full frame cameras and GM lenses have, however, been remarkably successful for Sony and, due to the size of this dominant market sector, have not marginalised this market. The good news is that, now the full frame system reaches maturity, Sony have promised another APS-C camera and some lenses in 2019. I personally believe that as sensors continue to improve APS-C will become more attractive than Full Frame - especially when the weight of the camera bag will be half that of the full frame kit.
FreshYoungLeaves - wide aperture primes will always give you superior image quality. Zooms are for convenience when you can’t be changing lenses every couple of minutes.
Hello Mark, after much deliberation, because it is expensive, I bought the Zeiss 16-70mm for my A6000. However I have been seeing on Vlogs some severe criticisms about this lens, some reports saying that it is 'decentred' and soft in the corners. Your sample shots with this lens look far sharper than anything I have managed to achieve, should I be worried about my purchase?
It is possible for a lens from any manufacturer to be 'decentred' but this does not mean all lenses in this lineup are the same. A decentered lens is a fault of manufacturer or being dropped - it is not a fault of lens design. A decentered lens would usually be significantly softer in one corner than the the other three. I would typically test this at f/11. Some photographers tilt the horizon line to a 45° angle and review the resulting image at 100% to test to see if their lens is a bad copy. Purchasing from a reputable dealer makes it easy to swap the lens out for a different sample.
Great video Mark! I have a6300 and looking for a lens for product, food photography. Which one would you recommend? Lens I have now, kit and 18-105. Thank you.
Sony usually contact you because you have a good body of work, have a large social media following and you have been tagging Sony over a long period of time.
There are multiple tests and users claiming that the 16-70 f/4 produces equivalent or even inferior quality to the 16-50 kit lens. So if you’re going to say it provides “better image quality” then it would be nice for you to supply some information that supports your claim. Or explicitly state that that is only your opinion. Just a suggestion.
The SEL 16-70 F/4 ZA is the highest scoring Sony E Mount zoom lens as tested by dxomark.com (sharper than the SEL1650, SEL18105, SEL55210, SEL18200, SEL1018).
I am happy with the quality of the images shown in this movie. You can play the movie full screen or review the images in the supporting Albums to see that the quality is very good. This movie was designed for people who own an A6K camera so choosing a Fuji lens is not an option.
Personally I don't think the lenses I have highlighted here are expensive for the optical quality they deliver. It is possible to purchase cheaper lenses (usually made in China) - sometimes without OSS or Auto Focus.
I got a 70-200mm f4 for my a6300 for $800 on eBay. It was the largest leap forward in photographic capabilities that I've ever experienced. That lens is good at soooo much. Wildlife? Great. Portraits? If you have room, incredible. Background compression? Outstanding.

Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS Lens - 450 usd
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens - 300 usd
Sony DT 35mm f/1.8 SAM Lens - 220 usd
Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens - 200 usd
Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens - 150 usd
All prices were taken from bhphotovideo.com
Pavlo Iatsiuk - you could play this game all day. ALL the Fuji equivalents except the 35 are more expensive.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thanks very much
I have A6000 w/16-50mm kit lens and Prime 35mm f/1.8. I'm happy with them. However I would love to do outdoor portraits more. I love more creamy, unfocused bokeh background. Should I invest in Sony 50mm f/1.8 lens?
That would be my choice. If you want to defocus the background even more check out the FE 1.8/85
Thank you so much for your suggestion. I'll go and check out the 85 f1.8.
The 35mm FE F/2.8 ZA is very small and compact while the FE 35 F/1.8 has the wider aperture. Both are very sharp. Either lens is a good choice.
Can you give me a suggestion for food photography what type of lens would I need to use .
thank you
A macro and a wide aperture prime if you want that shallow depth of field look.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thank you very much 😊 🙏
Good content sir.
But you forget to mention 18-200 sel silver color.
Please create new alpha 5000 series, alpha 5300 may be? Just like 6300 but with lower spec and 180'screen just like 5000 series
I prefer the 18-135 for stills
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thank you
I have a Sony Alpha 33 SLT camera. I am so confused. What type of mount is my camera? Also, what Low-light lens is for the A33?
You have an A-Mount camera - look for wide aperture prime lenses starting with the acronym SAL (Sony A-mount Lens).
Thank you, Mark! I am looking at used lenses on Ebay. My camera and current lenses are used. Thank you, again!
It does not matter if you use a 50mm APS-C lens or a 50mm Full frame lens on an APS-C camera - the angle of view is the same.
wish f/2.8 , It seem Zeiss 16-70mm f/4 good lens for landscape and portrait. That lens, How about noise in low light with high iso ?
FreshYoungLeaves - adding a one stop brighter aperture to a lens doubles the weight, size and cost. I would imagine Sony does not want to create large heaven and expensive lenses for its small APS-C cameras. If low light performance is required I carry a couple of f/1.8 primes.
If focal length is multiplied with crop factor then aperture will also be changed. 1.8 will be 1.8 for APC. Right?
Rohit Singh - for the purposes of exposure the f stop is the same but for depth of field the f stop has to be multiplied by the crop factor.
Hi Mark ..thank you so much for the knowledge and information you share. Do you run any similar photography courses in Melbourne ( happy to travel from Sydney to attend)??
I run training events in Melbourne- just go to the Education link on my website for details.
Whats your stance on 3rd party lenses like the sigma trio, and rokinon?
I use a Rokinon 12mm F2 but I use the Sony F/1.8 primes because I also own a Sony Full frame camera. I use the FE 20, 35, 55 and 85 f/1.8 primes
Thank you for this informative video. Please I would like to know why you didn't include the Sony Zeiss E 24 F1.8 in your review also what about adding the teleconverters 1.4 and 2X how much would they affect sharpness especially on a cropped sensor body
My reasons for the lenses I chose to review can be found on my blog post...
www.markgaler.com/choosing-your-next-sony-alpha-aps-c-e-mount-lens
Thanks very informative - however went to purchase the 18-105 but found the weight to be 427gms against the 55-210mm which I currently have - whether I will notice the extra weight when shooting I am not so shure
Thanks for the awesome video. I am going to purchase a A6500. I do mostly sports photography with the majority of it being at the bowling alley, getting action shots of bowlers. However, I will be using this camera for vacations and also doing portraits. Which lens/lenses do you recommend? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I use the FE 70-200 F/4 G OSS
It's a full frame lens designed for the A7 cameras but it can keep up with the Autofocus performance of the A6500
I do have sony a6000 and I would like to buy a 50mm lens.
Awesome. Thanks for replying =)
So am I getting this right? you can use an FE lens on a cropped sensor but not the other way round?
It would be nice if you make a vlog to show us the quality of the picture or video when you are using sony a6400 pairing with full frame lens.
simplelia budiman - if you watch my A6400 review you will see I covered an entire event using the 85 f/1.8
@@AlphaCreativeSkills yes, the video help me to make decision 😊 thank you...
where's the Zeiss 24mm 1.8?
It's a good lens but I didn't have time to review all the lenses in the movie and I decided not to review the most expensive E lenses.
Personally I would purchase the cheaper FE 28mm lens for use on this system.
good video... I wish Sony would do some more aps-c lenses
the sigma 19mm & 30mm F1.4 are great lenses at a snip of the price of sony's
Also, according to DXO Mark the Sony 35mm is softer wide open than the Sigma.
i have a A6300 and i'm gonna work filming weddings, birthdays, night clubs, all low light enviroments. The Sigma 30mm 1.4 gonna work for me?
The brighter the better. Just check out the AF performance of the Sigma before making the purchase.
Superb shot you got with that lens !

Mark you the man keep up the great work. !!!
Hi. I have an alpha 6300 model. Looking to purchase a 50mm prime lens. Could you please suggest one.
SEL55F18Z or SEL50F18F
The SEL50F18 is the lens designed for the APS-C E-Mount cameras. You would only purchase the SEL55F18Z if you were thinking of upgrading to the full-frame E-Mount Alpha cameras. The Full frame lenses are often promoted as FE lenses, e.g. FE 55 F/1.8 ZA
Hi Mark,
Thank you for the overview.
Thanks!
looking for a light-weight zoom lens for my A6500; I've heard negative things on the 55-210mm Sony lens; you think it's a decent lens?
It's probably not fast enough for sports but it is small, light, cheap and sharp. Take a look at these images captured with this lens: flic.kr/s/aHsk9JGwGN
what camera did you use? can you get detail from about 100 feet away? thanks.
Since the variable f5.6-6.3 aperture is slow, it's not going to be great in low light.
Is it worth buying sigma 30mm lens?
I hear it is a good lens but I have not reviewed it and don’t need to add it my kit as my 35mm serves my purpose.
Great video, absolutely incredible photo examples too! Also notice how he doesn't mention any Sigma lenses as a Sony Ambasssador haha.
That is really self evident in the title of the movie.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Incorrect. Sigma lenses also fit on Sony Alpha APS-C E-Mount cameras.
@@F19991 The video is titled
"Choosing your next Sony Alpha APS-C

Im surprised that there was nothing about the sony zeiss 24mm 1.8
This movie targets users who are looking for a lens to follow their kit lens. The Zeiss is fine, but expensive, piece of glass so I decided to focus on the focal lengths not already covered and a cheaper prime.

I meant to mention I also use the A7R2, hence the mention of the 24-240mm FF
Hey Mark amazing review on these lenses. What would you recommend for full body portrait shots? I was going to get the 50f18 but you suggested that it would be good for head and shoulders. Is that still a good lens for those type of photos?
With its wide f/1.8 aperture it is still good for dropping backgrounds out of focus but you are going to have stand a lot further away from your subject. If this is something that you do not want to do you may want to look at something like the 24 or 35mm primes.
I have A 5000 can i use lens sony E 50mm F/1.8 ?
Yes
Is FE lens will fit on a6300 without a adoptor?
Yes the will fit without an adapter. E and FE lenses all fit on the same E-Mount.
Apature 4 is considered wide? Im confused.. F4 is not that wide imo!
Helios 77M-4.
Ayhan Çapan - unfortunately I cant comment as I have not used the Sigma. Is there an opportunity to use one in a camera store before purchasing?
Will these lens also work on sony a5000? Also would it be worth swapping my a5000 for a6000? Thank you
Yes - all these lenses work on the A5000. I think the A6000 offers incredible value for money and the EVF is an essential feature for enthusiasts.
Great video
18-105mm f4 without sample portrait pics. Is it less quality compare large aperture lens & prime lens ?
FreshYoungLeaves - wide aperture primes will always give you superior image quality. Zooms are for convenience when you can’t be changing lenses every couple of minutes.
Sir can I use full frame len in my Sony a6000
Yes - that Is why I show three full-frame lenses in this movie.
Very good video. Thanks!
Great video Mark! I have a6300 and looking for a lens for product, food photography. Which one would you recommend?

Ty great video.
I supply ultra HD examples on my Flickr page of all the lenses I use.
The SEL 16-70 F/4 ZA is the highest scoring Sony E Mount zoom lens as tested by dxomark.com (sharper than the SEL1650, SEL18105, SEL55210, SEL18200, SEL1018).
I figured that would be the response. However, it is fair to let potential buyers know that examination leads to very mixed reviews. YMMV

Sony have forgotten about there apsc lenses giving fuji a free hit. Some of these lenses are poor quality.
I am happy with the quality of the images shown in this movie. You can play the movie full screen or review the images in the supporting Albums to see that the quality is very good. This movie was designed for people who own an A6K camera so choosing a Fuji lens is not an option.
it's a shame sony doesn't have an affordable 35mm equivalent
I found the kit lens so woefully poor I reverted back to fuji for apsc, whose kit is quite decent.
You probably had a copy that had been dropped - the ones I have used are pin sharp
Check the Image Gallery for the proof.

Personally I don't think the lenses I have highlighted here are expensive for the optical quality they deliver. It is possible to purchase cheaper lenses (usually made in China) - sometimes without OSS or Auto Focus.
