Awesome! thanks for stopping by! Have a new vid coming out in a day or so about 5 features I think everyone should check out when they first get their a6000. Sincerely appreciate you checking this out. 🙌🏻
I’m confident I can show anyone how to take those photos with enough practice. I only get paid sometimes to take photos, but rarely. Thanks for the compliment though! Haha.
The pictures you shared of your Sony Kit lens are really amazing! A lot of people unnecessarily bash the kit lens but I really think it deserves more credit. Great video.
I agree with your choices of lenses. Great lens is important for all the Sony A series with the same E mount. I’m not a video shooter that’s why I prefer the Sony 18-135mm without the power zoom useful for video. But in my view, the 18-135mm got a bit better optical quality lens is shorter and lighter then the 18-105mm. Plus the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for travel is just perfect!
Hey Kyle. I love your story on this video. I'm also not a professional photographer but your channel inspired me to buy the Sony a6300 and take my hobby to the next level. I've been a professional designer for 20+ years and really wanted to expand my creativity into a new field. All of your videos really help and I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into this channel and share with us. Thanks a million!
Dont forget that a dedicated Flash really does take your creativity to the next level, being able to bounce flash at 100 ISO in dim rooms or outdoors and having perfectly natural Colours and low noise, beginners dont realise the secret to photography is keeping the ISO as low as possible whilst keeping the shutter speed high enough for the scene and lens focal distance, then using aperture creatively to keep it at a perfect depth of field.
Hey Kyle, been back watching your videos for a6000. I just bought mine recently with sigma 30 mm 1.4 (I dissed the kit lens sorry) and watched some YT videos about it. When I watched your video about a6000's significance in 2020, it cleared away my doubts about my purchase! Perhaps a good camera is still good camera no matter how old it is. Keep it up!
I did not buy the kit lens because I knew I was mainly buying the camera to shoot college football in small stadiums (from the stands). I bought the Sony E 18-135, which does 'most' of what I need. I will get the 18-200mm next year or so. I would like a smaller lens for travel so I'm wondering if I should get the 16-50mm kit lens now.
If you want a smaller lens and are used to having a range the kit lens is great. However you’re going to be used to the quality of those bigger lenses so it may be slightly disappointing. I like the kit lens a lot, just know there is a quality difference. I mainly use the Sony 35mm f1.8, I rarely switch!
I love these a6000 videos. Not enough people do these videos. Most consumers buy something that's good and not a million dollars and right now that's the a6000.
I´ve got the Zeiss 16-70mm F4 for APSC which is very versatile, small and lightweight, it´s better in the edges than the kit lenses. I use this most of the time when I do street photography, family pictures, some architecture, and social events. However, this lens is not cheap and I bought it second hand. I have the Samyang 12mm F2.0 for street views at night, for architecture and inside photography under low light conditions. The ultra wide angle allows you to get the true impression of room and space in streets and inside of buildings, you get cover wall to wall. I also use it for landscapes. This lens gives you a lot for the bucks. For wildlife photography I have the "bad boy", a 70-300 G-master. This is an amazing piece of glass, very heavy and bulky but with great quality and stabilized. I also do full frame portraits with this from a distance like 5 meters, or more away to get people in their natural habitat with their natural facial expression and you get a nice bokeh as well. I use it in landscape photography to get things zoomed in from afar. What I don´t have is something with moderate fixed focal length for portraits like your 35 mm F1.8 and I also want to get more into macro photography as well.
Macro tubes are great for macro, as well as the Sony 30mm macro. I know someone who gets fantastic results with that lens for macro (and it’s reasonably priced). I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Samyang! Also jealous of you having that G master! I think my next lens, will be the Sigma 56mm f1.4. I’ve been very impressed with the song 50mm f1.8 (borrowed it) so can imagine the sigma is just a bit better and worth it. Thanks for discussing your gear! ✌🏻
The 18-105 is very nice. Even in a relatively low light environment it did well enough for me. And the clear image zoom worked when using the zoom ring, and that gave me much better control too.
Yes, I've seen that. I still plan to opt for the 18-105 instead, though, because of it's constant f4, metal rather than plastic build, and it being better for video. Also, it looks cooler!
You taught me a lot and made me go ahead and make the purchase. I have the Silver a6000 with the kit lens. Going for portraits mainly and then street photography. Should I go 50mm if I’m shooting models? Like face shots and full body photos
Great video! I bought the 18-105 about three years ago and it stays on my camera all the time now. It's easily the best all around lens that I've found for the a6000. I would recommend checking out the Sigma 60mm 2.8 Art if you're looking for a good portrait lens. It's incredibly sharp for $200.
I love my Sony A6000. I have the kit lenses but also the 35mm and the 18-135mm. Love both of them. I live in Colorado and would like to try my hand at some wildlife photography. Thinking about the Sony 70-300mm. I want a sony lenses that has OSS as the A6000 doesn't have IBIS. I know for wildlife a longer focal length would be better but I'm not ready to invest in 2.5K for a sony 100-400mm GM. Thoughts???
Just remember this is a crop sensor camera, so you’ll have to consider the crop factor. Wild life may not need OSS unless you’re doing handheld, which may be difficult with a big lens! Go with the 70-300 and see how that does!
Thanks so much for the quick response. Yep, with the crop factor it's more like 105 - 450mm which is actually better, Yes, I'm more of a handheld gal so I like the OSS. @@kyletaggart
When I read the number it’s like WHOA! So zoomed in! I will have to take a crack at wile life photography one day. Also no problem? I try my best to keep up with the comments! 🤗
hikyletaggart hey Kyle. Some of my favorite photos are with the 55-210 I was using it to take portrait shots because of its lower f stop at 55mm compared to the kit lens before I found out what primes are. Btw, I really like your videos you and techmafia got me to get the Sony 35mm instead of the sigma 30mm. We’ll see how it performs I haven’t had a chance to test it on my a6300 yet. I have found that indoors without natural light it’s hunts a lot and wasn’t sharp wide open which made me kinda sad.
I don’t think the price used would be significantly cheaper, but if it is, go for it. If you’re buying in person, I would test it in video and photo, listen for any loud auto focus noise. It should be rather silent. Inspect the back (opening) and the front element. Take a pic of something white and then review the image for any imperfections. Obviously specs of dust can be on the sensor but maybe there is something else.
I always advise to start with the Sony 55-210mm. It's cheaper than others (especially used). If you want longer zooms they get super expensive. There's also sony 18-135 and 18-105. geni.us/Sony55to210APSC
@@kyletaggart I’m a grandma who likes to photograph nature (plants, birds, sunsets and my grandchildren) and have been slow to learn anything but automatic modes on my a6000 which I have had for 5 years now and even though it’s discontinued, it’s what I have and I want to work with it. The kit lens is fine but limiting. I’m going to go with your recommendation because it seems well priced and in my budget. Thanks!
You're right about the kit lens. I've been neglecting mine for quite a while now... Can you blame me though?... I do have the 35mm lens and the 16mm sigma ;)
Of course, as long as said brand has labeled it an E Mount lens. For the a6000 you’d also want to make sure it’s an “APSC” lens. Sigma, Viltrox, Pergear, Rokinon, Neweer, ect all make lenses for the Sony a6000 lineup of cameras.
I've got the 16-50 kit lens, and a 55-210 lens. So far I haven't had the chance to use the 55-210 much, but when I did, I kinda missed an old 75-300 lens I had (other story), I think I need that "extra" tele. So, I was very surprised to see you mention there's no loss of quality with the extra zoom which was the one function I instantly disabled on my a6000. So, Have you tried it with other lenses? I'm definetly going to try and let you know the results (next weekend maybe)
I think it depends on what your photographing. It’s some digital wizardry going on when it does it. I’ve used it on the Sony 35mm and zoomed it in to 50mm which was fun. I’ve tried it on the 18-105 and it worked ok but if I remember correctly not as well. Let me know how it works out on the 55-210.
i have the sony a600 and currently use the kit lens, but i’m looking to buy a lens with nicer bokeh. i’m interested in travel/adventure photography. I’m thinking about maybe buying a wide angle and a zoom lens (or if one lens is versatile for wide and zoomed photos). any thoughts/recommendations? xx
I recently posted a video on the Sigma 30mm f1.4. It was great bokeh and it’s a hood all around lens. As for zoom the Sony 18-105 f4 is a perfect all arounder. The latter is more expensive. www.amazon.com/shop/hikyletaggart?listId=Y3YP9O9EI59O%26ref=exp_inf_sh_mb_list_pub_hikyletaggart_tx
I have the a6300 and I was wondering what do you think about taking handheld photos with the sigma 16mm? Mainly landscape, but also for general use. The reason I ask is because it does not have oss and the a6300 does not have in body stabilization.
I don’t even notice it not having OSS. I posted a pic of the sunset on my Instagram and that was taken with the a6000 and sigma 16mm f1.4. Actually the last two photos on my Instagram. Go check em out. Both handheld!
4:58 Hidden Gem "It's like perfect. I don't know how to explain it, it's a little much for my girlfriend sometimes but I really like the weight and the length of this." A great (unintended) double entendre in a great lens video. Keep up the videos man ;)
My current lens collection is 16-50mm kit zoom lens, 35mm F1.8 prime lens and 10-18mm wide zoom lens, all Sony lens. I have tried and didn't like Sony 16 mm F2.8 and 20mm F2.8 lens together with wide-angle and fisheye adapters. I also tried and didn't like Rokinon 12mm lens. I read all good things about Sigma 16mm lens but I didn't like its size. I ended up with 10-18mm lens despite its price. I think no better choice. I hate Sony 50-210mm zoom lens which came with my previous NEX5T camera and recently get rid of. Between Sony 18-200mm and Sony 18-105mm G, I nearly bought 18-105mm G lens lately but waited for the new Sony 18-135 mm lens. Now I placed an order for Sony 18-135 mm lens and hope that I will like it. I am not a professional but this is my opinion and choice based on my hands on and gut feeling.
Nice! Sometimes it is trial and error. Use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. Once a lens, camera, whatever it is makes you feel hindered from creating, it’s time to make the switch.
Well that’s not always the case, but, the 6300 is the same body but better. You can get the same lens for the 6300. I understand budget comes into play. Also if you’re more focused for photography, the 6000 performs the same as the 6300.
Hi Kyle - is there any change to preferred lenses for the a6400? I mean, whatever your favorites are for the a6000, are they same for the a6400 (or even the a6100)
I am confused between a6000 & a6400. I do photography(events /low light wedding /landscape). Less work with videos. Which one should I buy between this two. If I buy a6000 then I can able to invest some money in lenses but it will be very tough in a6400. Currently I am a nikon D5300 user.
I just ordered the 18-135mm for my a6500. Just a much faster lens than the 18-105 making life alot easier for run and gun situations also it's slightly sharper
Great video. I am new to photography and I am looking for a good inexpensive lens for action shots. I play paintball and want to be able to showcase some of the youth that get involved in the sport. Any suggestions?
I don’t use full frame lenses or a full frame camera, so there is no need for me to reference it as a 52mm full frame equivalent. You’re math is correct, 32 x 1.5 = 52, but that doesn’t tell me anything I need to know when shooting with the a6000 and a 35mm APS-C lens. If I had say, a 35mm A mount lens, intended for say the A7 series cameras, I would need to know that if mounted on my a6000, it would be a 52mm focal length. Thanks for watching and commenting!
hikyletaggart you’re welcome! It’s a good video! And I get where you’re coming from, I’m not using a full frame either in fact besides knowing much about cameras and playing around with them I only got an a6000 2 to 3 weeks ago. But I reference it back cause I never elimste the option of a full frame sensor, and because other people do use full frames and a 35mm on paper can start to look different in the actual results in terms of focal length. So because a 50mm becomes 75 the result for portraits is definitely different than an actual 50mm equivalent. So not as much of a portrait lens anymore. Even though I’d shoot a portrait even with a 200mm as well. It totally doesn’t matter haha. If you ever get the opportunity shoot a portrait on the beach with the sea in the back, it’ll look enormous! Sorry for the long explanation, just relatively seen as why I count back or forward haha
No worries! Congrats on the recent a6000! When talking to someone who’s shooting with full frame, it is helpful then. But for us a6000 peeps it doesn’t do much unless we mount one of those full frame lenses on. Which people do do that!
hikyletaggart Thanks! I love it! But the focal lengths on the kit lens (16-50) is actually a full frame focal length. The difference is apparent in photo results
Hey Kyle, currently, my go-to travel lenses for my a6k are the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the SEL35f18, but I've read good reviews with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and now I'm thinking of selling the Sony for that or the 18-105, do you think I should do it? If not, why? For the Sigma, OSS will not be a problem because I shoot mostly stills. Like you, I'm just a hobbyist, and like you, I hate that term :)
I’m not sure if there is a HUGE diff from the sigma to Sony. In my opinion I love the Sony 35. Is counter your question with a question lol, why switch? What is making you unhappy about the Sony 35? The 18-105 G f4 is a great travel lens as it hits all the normal focal lengths and can be constant f4. However you lose a little low light performance. In the end, why not experiment! It’s fun to try new lenses and see what you like, so screw it, go for the change up!
Thanks for sharing your collection. You really need to get some Zeiss wipes or similar to clean all the dog snot, hair, and smudges off your lenses! A decent UV filter will also help to protect the glass.
I recomend the Nifty 50 Nikon F1.7, fantastic Bokeh class leading sharpness, just you will have to focus manual, Ken Rockwell said it was one of the sharpest lens period. and second hand just £60 or less.
I love to fly my A6000 on my Zhiyun Crane V2 and the Sigma 16 f1.4 will be my next lens and then I´m curious about using the Clear Image Zoom on the Sigma 16... How about that? Thank you
Whoa sick setup! You can use CIZ with that lens and it becomes a 32mm. It wouldn’t be as good as the Sigma 30mm f1.4, but it works great! Look up “Turn your sigma 16mm f1.4 into a zoom lens”. Chris Brockhurst has done a video on that exact lens and CIZ!
have you tried the 55-210 sony kit lenses that also comes with the A6000. could you do a video on that one. also your videos are awesome, they have really helped me learn the camera. i also purchased the cheat sheets u offer
The cheat sheets are from that guy “Moose”. Just saw his videos and they’re cool! As for the lens I don’t own it, however I’ve heard it decent. If I get one I will be sure to do a video. Still want to do videos on my other lenses. 👍🏻
If I was doing more landscapes/wide shots, astrophotography, and if I absolutely needed a lens for RUclips video, Sigma 16mm f1.4. If I was taking more portraits, street photography, I’d choose the Sony 35mm f1.8. Hope that helps!
Heck yeah! It’s a great wide angle lens. However look I to landscape reviews. I haven’t used it myself for that specific purpose. I’m sure it will shine though!
we're doing a safari in africa and getting this camera for the auto focus features(we're beginners) We're pretty committed to the 55-210 lens, is that a good choice?
Yep! You might not get images from National Geographic style, but you’ll get great images. Wildlife is tough, because of the range needed. That lens will do well. Also look into clear image zoom! 🙌🏻
Thank you! Just getting the camera tomorrow or Monday. Is that mode easily turned on? Like you said wildlife is tricky. We’re trying to keep costs down but anything else you want to recommend would be greatly appreciated! This lens seemed to be the best bang for buck.
I would recommend getting the two lens combo. It’s the cheapest way to start with two lenses. 16-50 and 55-210. (Typically found at Best Buy). Checkout this video at about 4:45, I talk about cleat image Zoom with a prime or zoom lens. ✌🏻 ruclips.net/video/xBa6xggAq7Y/видео.html
Thanks again for the reply, I ended up passing on the kit lens because of the deal and their current stock. I grabbed it at Henry's(if you're familiar). In a few months we'll grab another 35 or 50mm I was thinking, whatever would be more versatile for landscape, portrait, etc..
I’ve heard of Henry’s, besides that I’m unfamiliar. Also no problem. Let me know what you get next! I’m looking at a 20mm f2 for my canon M50, and the next lens I want for my Sony a6000 is the Sigma 56mm f1.4 (amazing for portraits).
Nice one. I just bought myself the 7artisans 12mm 2.8. it's ok but I REALLY want the Rokinon 12mm (actually, I REEEEEEALLYYY want the Zeiss 12mm but it's a grand so forget that).
i scooped the rokinon 12mm about 5 months ago....let me tell you, if you wanna get into astrophotography...pair it with the A6000 and its gold, my favorite lens by far....i also just copped the 18-105mm Sony joint you were mentioning....its a god-send......but yea, Rokinon is amazing
I just saw a video on youtube of someones a6000 kit lens making quite an annoying grinding sound when zooming in and out. Is that a common issue with the kit lens. Have you experienced that
Nope, but it is a power zoom lens (meaning it zooms by a switch) and you can turn it with your hand as well. It’s not quiet, but it doesn’t grind. I bet they’re just hearing the motor and aren’t used to that.
Thanks. I should be getting my a6000 within the next week. I like the review you made on the 35mm f1.8 Its made me want to get 1 but it dosent come cheep. Ive never owned a camera like this before so i guess the kit will be a good start for me to get used to it until i get some cash together for the 35mm
Nice nice! With the 16-50 you may find a nice focal length you want to explore later on with a prime lens. 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm. So the kit is a great place to start.
I feel like the camera struggles and is slower at autofocusing at the end range near the 105mm for the 18 to 105. Do you have the same experience....or do i have a dud?
Just wondering what you're using as your viewfinder with your camera, and how your set up is.. I have been making videos but I cannot figure out how to connect my Sony a6000 to my laptop or anything to use it as a viewfinder. Any help will be awesome!
I was thinking of getting a6000 with the kitlens plus sigma 30mm ,but then I saw the fuji xt20 ,and in reviews it seems like the kit lens of fuji is really good so still thinking...🙄
I wouldn’t worry so much about the gear specs. Worry about what features of the body you like first, and what all fits in your budget. You won’t be disappointed either way! I think the kit of the Sony is great, however i have not compared it to the Fuji. I hear amazing things about the 30mm sigma!
@@kyletaggart my video setting dont seem to be working it says ..Movie recording starts with movie button. Still image shooting is invalid in this mode it is only available in modes other than movie mode , and doesn't record, can u help me
It’s a nice piece of glass! If you want to experiment check out the Fotasy lens I made a video about. It’s super cheap and you would get better background blur.
I have a really stupid question that hopefully you or the audience can answer. When I try zooming in almost all the way with my 18-105, it's blurry and I have to press the shutter halfway to get focus. Is that how zoom lenses work? I have this lens for a while now but never had the need to zoom all the way in.
I’d have to test it myself but I believe it has to re-focus. When you focus at 18mm it has certain objects in front and certain in back, it focuses the scene accordingly (also keep in mind f stop). When you zoom in, that point will be blurry or not based on the first focus. Not 100% certain on my thought here, will have to test myself!
Thanks so much Dennis! If you do, consider using a link from the video. It helps support the channel a ton. Whatever you go with enjoy your new camera!!
Liked your video, and your enthusiasm. The lens I’d like is the Sony 18-135. So much more compact than the 18-105, make a great travel lens. It’s very expensive unfortunately.
Thanks Henry! The 18-135 is a full frame lens so on the a6000 it’d have quite the range! It’s actually cheaper than the 18-105 G lens as well (by$100).
Quality seems to be at least as good as the 18-105 but no constant f4 of course. For videography the zoom wouldn’t be so good but I’m all about stills. I tried it on my body at the local dealer, so compact and well balanced. But man it’s expensive.
I really like your channel! Have you tried moon shots? Is there any lens you recommend for that with the a6000. I just acquired the camera (you convinced me!) and would like to give a try.
Thanks for the videos! I trying to decide which lens to buy to replace my kit lens. 18-105 or 18-135. Most of the time I use my a6000 for pictures of my kids and sometimes for videos. But also like to use for landscape during traveling. I know one lens not gonna do the good job but if to make compromise what lens you would choose? Thanks!
I am happy that find yours channel. I have almost 11 years Sony dsc-r1 bridge camera, and now I am wanting a new one. I am looking for camera with video, would love to take some vlogs, showing a slowfashion process, and shearing about it with others. BUT i need good camera for photo shooting, like leather accessories, and clothes on models. I don't want a very expensive camera, because i need only for may fashion work (take pictures for my online shop), not for professional photo work. So what do you think, is this right one? and what lens would you suggest?:) Thank you!
You won’t be able to see yourself for vlogs if you’re filming yourself while walking. However the wide focus w/ kit lens is good at keeping you in focus. It’s a cheaper camera that has great quality. The Canon M50 is a great camera as well, that may suit your needs.
I think you're pulling off more of the Fotasy lens than you're are supposed to. My fujian lens also comes apart in a similar way but it's not supposed to be operated like that. Are sure the cap doesn't just slide off of the part you are unscrewing?
I agree with EleMenTfiNi, you are definitely unscrewing the front metal element that keeps the lens intact. You should pull the plastic cap only that is covering the metal front element (take a look at the lens pictures in amazon). I had the same lens and ended up breaking it doing exactly that.
my sigma 16mm f.14 doesn't have that sound when recording video, after watching your video i tried to check it again, there's indeed a sound when the lens is focusing, but when i tried recording video with AF-C mode, there's just a little noise picked up by the mic, not like yours. i wonder why, and when i tried using external mic (ECM GZ1M) mic, the noise is gone, maybe you should invest in mic to remove the sound. im using A6000 just like yours too.
Exactly. I will be using the zoom H1 from on, and I’ll also talk about it as well as an accessory. I wish the sigma didn’t have that sound but hey, on board camera mics aren’t the best anyway, and should be avoided if possible! Thanks for watching dude!
Budget is hard in photography, especially when you need auto focus. The Sony 35mm f1.8 is a perfect small, sharp, travel lens. But it’s pricey, at $450. Another is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 Sony also has some pancake lenses. 20mm and 16mm f2.8
hikyletaggart thx im trying to get the the sony 38 mm, thx for the videos i will keep watching for tips in photography, thx again and keep the good work
Probably the 35mm, but like I tell everyone, it’s my preference of focal length. If you like a wider perspective go with the sigma 16mm, it’s an amazing lens. I just prefer the look of the 35mm.
Hi great video, which lens would you recommend for street photography? Also I would suggest to talk a bit on the crop factor. i.e. 35mm lens on A6000 is essentially a 50mm. But great vid :)
Hello. I just wanna ask if it is worth it to buy the camera with kit lense 16-50mm & 55-210mm which cost $750. Or the body with 16-50 mm lense ($600) would be good enough for someone who is just starting on photography. Then just buy the 55-210 kit lense in the future? Thanks in advance.
That’s a good question. I would check the prices in the 55-210 on it’s own to see if the kit with both lenses is worth it. Looks like it’s a deal since the 55-210 is $230 on Amazon. I think the kit lens (16-50) is an awesome starter lens. If you think you’ll want some closer shots from a distance, then maybe consider the two lenses combo.
Yes, I would recommend getting the 55-210 as part of a set. I'm new to photography too and have had a lot of fun with the telephoto. A reasonable way to experiment with wildlife, sports and even portraiture (50-90mm is great for feature compression).
I am purchased the a6000 hoping to get indoor, low light sports photos and have been really disappointed. Do you have any suggestions on what lense I should purchase or if this may just be the wrong camera for what I'm trying to do?
Need a fast Lens. The best lens for that would be the 70-200 f 2.8. However that’s quite the expense. What kind of sports photography? If it’s just your kids basketball game or something you could do the 50mm f1.8 and use clear image zoom to punch in a little further.
I use the 55-210mm f4.5-6.3 sony for my brother's basketball games but it really isn't ideal. I have to bump exposure up quite a lot in post if I shoot faster shutter speeds which is pretty much needed. But the focus is good on the lens at least. Maybe try the 85mm 1.8 or a fast 50mm with the digital zoom as suggested. Sometimes I use the little flash in the camera which doesn't really seem to distract the players but it's not ideal and I feel bad for doing it :D
I actually kinda want the same thing. The 50mm is “cheap, I think I may pick it up! Also, even though my gf already has it, I want my own Sigma 16mm. I feel bad borrowing hers all the time haha.
I'm undecided which lens to get for a Sony a6300 and then they have a mount and e mount like what's the difference???!!! I want a lens that has a wide angle and I can do landscapes and portrait and low light?!!!!! HELP!!!
Sigma 16mm 1.4 (e mount). The difference between E and A is A mount is full frame and if you bought one of those and put it on your 6300, it would be cropped/zoomed in by 1.5x. So if you bought an a mount 50mm, it would be like a 75mm on your a6300. A mount are typically more expensive. E mount are designed for your camera. However you can use both types!
Hey man, great video!! I just got a a6000 and I want to shoot good youtube videos and also long distance photography, what would you recommend in lenses?
I use the a6000 for all my videos (this video was before I got better lenses). As for long distance you can do that with the a6000, but there aren’t many long distance lens options. That gets expensive rather quickly.
Dropped my a6000 kit lens, turned it on it says “cannot recognize lens attache it properly” I already cleaned the lens/camera and putting the lens properly but it’s not working. Pls help! 💔😭
Awesome Vids bro! I got all the lens that you showed except the 16mm. Have you tried the Sigma 30mm 1.4? Is the Sony35mf1.8 shoot better quality than the Sigma? Thanks
@@kyletaggart Sorry, a little confused again. It still is 52 even on the Sony Alpha 6400 right? Whatever the lens we use on the croppped sensor camera, we need to multiply by the crop factor. Therefore, we never get the printed focal length on the lens. Thanks for countering my point and explaining me if I am wrong.
@@Aemilindore The marking on the lens is correct. It has to do with the sensor to lens element measurement. In reality, I advise those who ONLY own a crop sensor camera, like the a6400, to not worry about equivalency. When you have to take it into account, is if you were to have a full frame camera, and you start putting crop sensor lenses on it. Otherwise, don't worry about it. Does that make sense? Go by what's on the lens, and if you end up using crop sensor lenses later on full frame bodies, just remember the crop factor then, and how they will act on a full frame camera.
@@kyletaggart Got it. Thanks. My initial thoughts were that a 35mm APS-C Prime lense is effectively a 52mm lens on my Sony A6400. I was sad I purchased effectively a "52mm" prime. Glad to know its not. Thanks
Hey man. Just checking out your channel. Really enjoy it. You were the one who replied to me on Reddit about the a6000.
Awesome! thanks for stopping by! Have a new vid coming out in a day or so about 5 features I think everyone should check out when they first get their a6000. Sincerely appreciate you checking this out. 🙌🏻

"its a little much for my girlfriend sometimes, but I like the weight and the length of it"
Damm dude you made me laugh 😂
The kit lenses for A6000 are pretty good, small light and stabilized. One lens I love is Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is cheap, sharp and fast.
I have been using the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and love it. I just picked up the Sigma 30mm 2.8 which I am anxious to start using as well.
Love the Sigma 16mm! Hope you enjoy the 30mm too!
hikyletaggart love your vids and just subbed to your chanel
Thanks so much!!

Ok...
I couldn’t agree more. It’s an amazing little piece of tech. Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for the photography compliment!
What program did you use to enhance and edit that beautiful nature pic with the river?
Lightroom CC (mobile)
hikyletaggart thank you sir!
I am using A6000 too. It is really an amazing camera. But with me, 50 f1.8 is best lense
Plus the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for travel is just perfect!
i’m probably a bit late but have you heard about the 7artisans 35mm f0.95? i absolutely love the look of the sample photos
That’s so awesome Chris! Hope you enjoy the camera and thanks so much for the kind words! 😊🙌🏻📸
Suzy Siviter which flash you recommend?
English please 😩
Very interesting video, I would have loved to see example footage from each to help me see what it can do.
Keep it up!
That combo is capable of great results, in the end remember it’s who’s behind it too! Enjoy and have fun!
The 18-105 F4 is my go to lens. I LOVE it! I have three lenses that cover all my needs.
It is pretty awesome! Used it in the backyard the other day to track the pups running around!
And I love you! 🤪
I love the 70-350mm g master for sports photography!(football/basketball)
Clear image zoom on the 18-105mm? Haha. Getting that extraaa length! I don’t use that lens that much but I should! Thanks for watching!
Hoping for that 18-105 to be my next purchase and primary lens on my a6300. Such a classy looking hunk of glass.
It’s an awesome lens for video! I really want one myself (the one here is my gf’s). They also just came out with a 18-135 I believe.
Yes, I've seen that. I still plan to opt for the 18-105 instead, though, because of it's constant f4, metal rather than plastic build, and it being better for video. Also, it looks cooler!
Good points! I agree I would go with that too.
Have since picked it up. No regrets. Dynamite for my use.
That’s awesome to hear!!
Which you recommend, the Sony 18-105 or the Sigma 16 1.4, for portraits and photography of moving pets/kids?
The sigma 16mm would be quite wide for portraits. I'd recommend the 18-105 out of the two.
@@kyletaggart thank you!
You taught me a lot and made me go ahead and make the purchase. I have the Silver a6000 with the kit lens. Going for portraits mainly and then street photography. Should I go 50mm if I’m shooting models? Like face shots and full body photos
You’ll get sharper results and better depth of field. 👍🏻
Thanks for the recommendation! And thanks for watching! 😊
I agree with the Sigma 2.8
Yep, with the crop factor it's more like 105 - 450mm which is actually better, Yes, I'm more of a handheld gal so I like the
OSS. @@kyletaggart
When I read the number it’s like WHOA! So zoomed in! I will have to take a crack at wile life photography one day. Also no problem? I try my best to keep up with the comments! 🤗
I love the kit lens! It offers a lot and I have shot a lot of things using this lens.
It’s really versatile! Thanks for watching Martin! 🙏🏻
I got the kit with also the 55-210 lens from Sony and it is also fantastic! A love its quality and body, also they precise focus. I do recommend!
Thanks Daniel! I do wish I got the 55-210. Will have to try that lens out one day!
hikyletaggart hey Kyle.
The 35mm is my jammmmmmm. Shoot at f2.0 or around that for maximum sharpness. Love technology mafias channel as well! Thanks dude. ✌🏻
I am thinking of getting the Sony 35mm 1.8 used. What are the things I should look for when I'm buying a used lens? any tips for buying used lens?
I don’t think the price used would be significantly cheaper, but if it is, go for it. If you’re buying in person, I would test it in video and photo, listen for any loud auto focus noise. It should be rather silent. Inspect the back (opening) and the front element. Take a pic of something white and then review the image for any imperfections. Obviously specs of dust can be on the sensor but maybe there is something else.
Which lens would you recommend for bird photography for the Sony a6000?
I always advise to start with the Sony 55-210mm. It's cheaper than others (especially used). If you want longer zooms they get super expensive. There's also sony 18-135 and 18-105. geni.us/Sony55to210APSC
@@kyletaggart Thank you so much! I love your Chanel and all the Sony a6000 tips.
Thanks!
@@donnakendall9706 thanks Donna!
Just wanna say this comment made my day! Hope you enjoy the new lens and get lovely bird and sunset pics!
You're right about the kit lens. I've been neglecting mine for quite a while now... Can you blame me though?... I do have the 35mm lens and the 16mm sigma ;)
Haha nope! Can’t blame you.
I have a question: can I put lens on the A6000 but Using a Different Brand of lens that is not Sony?
Of course, as long as said brand has labeled it an E Mount lens. For the a6000 you’d also want to make sure it’s an “APSC” lens.
Sigma, Viltrox, Pergear, Rokinon, Neweer, ect all make lenses for the Sony a6000 lineup of cameras.
did you have a shot gun mic when you filmed the sigma 16mm
Just subscribed . I bought a6000. thinking about getting the sigma 16 dcdn . Thanks for the suggestion .can you please review samyang 12 mm ???
I have a video review for the Sigma 16mm. I don’t have the Samyang yet.
Okkay I'll check it out . And keep up the awesome work. Thank you
The 35mm 1.8 is my favorite too, its so sharp and clear!!
I really love it. The last year of my instagram is basically taken with that lens!
What you need for sony alpha is all the sigma lenses, the 18-105 sony lens and a good macro lens.
These are all the sharpest APSc lenses.
i have the sony a600 and currently use the kit lens, but i’m looking to buy a lens with nicer bokeh. i’m interested in travel/adventure photography.
The latter is more expensive. www.amazon.com/shop/hikyletaggart?listId=Y3YP9O9EI59O%26ref=exp_inf_sh_mb_list_pub_hikyletaggart_tx
hikyletaggart great, thank you!!
Both handheld!
hikyletaggart so good to know that! What about low light? Do you it's ok to use it in low light scenarios and get good quality photos?
It’s ok in lowlight. More about the lens too! Without a lens with a low aperture. Checkout the Astro pics in my Instagram!
4:58 Hidden Gem "It's like perfect. I don't know how to explain it, it's a little much for my girlfriend sometimes but I really like the weight and the length of this."
A great (unintended) double entendre in a great lens video.
I’m about to by my first Mirrorless. With my budget I’m between a6000 and Zeiss FE 35mm 2.8 or a6300 and E 35mm 1.8. What to do?
If it’s in the budget go for the a6300. Just a better version of the a6000!
hikyletaggart Thanks for the prompt response. So you believe that I’ll gain more choosing the better camera than the better lens in that case?
Well that’s not always the case, but, the 6300 is the same body but better. You can get the same lens for the 6300. I understand budget comes into play. Also if you’re more focused for photography, the 6000 performs the same as the 6300.
hikyletaggart Thanks. Yes, budget is 6300 + E or 6000 + FE. What a doubt!
Hi Kyle - is there any change to preferred lenses for the a6400? I mean, whatever your favorites are for the a6000, are they same for the a6400 (or even the a6100)
Yes, but I do need to update this video. I think I’m going to do so in June as I’ve gotten more lenses since this video.
I have the 16-50 kit lens and sigma 30mm 1.4. planning to get the sony 18-105 f4 and sigma 16 f1.4 hhe
Building a nice collection!
I am confused between a6000 & a6400. I do photography(events /low light wedding /landscape). Less work with videos. Which one should I buy between this two. If I buy a6000 then I can able to invest some money in lenses but it will be very tough in a6400. Currently I am a nikon D5300 user.
More money in lenses are better I feel. If you’re not doing action, then the a6000 and better lenses may be the way to go. 👍🏻
I'm deciding wether to get the 18-135mm or the 18-105mm
I just ordered the 18-135mm for my a6500. Just a much faster lens than the 18-105 making life alot easier for run and gun situations also it's slightly sharper
Great video. I am new to photography and I am looking for a good inexpensive lens for action shots. I play paintball and want to be able to showcase some of the youth that get involved in the sport. Any suggestions?
You’d probably want a zoom. I’d go with the Sony18-135 mm lens or Sony 55-210.
3:50 the 35mm actually equals around 52mm 😜 great for portraits (on the a6000 (APS-C sensors))
It’s fun to try new lenses and see what you like, so screw it, go for the change up!
is the QX1 stell good to have it?
Because I like the idea of its design, does QX1 work on modern devices? Such as iPhone X
Love your videos!
Just bought my new travel buddy sonya6000!
Looking forward for more videos sonya6000
Gonna be a big year! 😎 thanks!
Thanks for sharing your collection. You really need to get some Zeiss wipes or similar to clean all the dog snot, hair, and smudges off your lenses! A decent UV filter will also help to protect the glass.
Hahahaha definitely!
I got the a6000 I'm looking for a good lens for wildlife and longer shots, what would you recommend
Perfect starter for that is the Sony 55-210mm lens!
Great thank you, and thanks for getting back to me! Love your videos.
@@jordanskidmore9853 thanks so much!
have you tried the 55-210 sony kit lenses that also comes with the A6000. could you do a video on that one. also your videos are awesome, they have really helped me learn the camera. i also purchased the cheat sheets u offer
The cheat sheets are from that guy “Moose”. Just saw his videos and they’re cool! As for the lens I don’t own it, however I’ve heard it decent. If I get one I will be sure to do a video. Still want to do videos on my other lenses. 👍🏻
hikyletaggart I apologize, I’ve been looking at RUclips videos all day. You both rock and I enjoy your content
Haha no worries. Thanks!!
Do you use external light for your videos?
Like a lamp of some sort? Or can the a6000 handle low lighting that well?
I use lights, lights are the key to better videos imo. Checkout my RUclips gear here: www.kit.com/hikyletaggart 👍🏻
Thank you so much for replying. It's appreciated!
If you only have to choose one between the sigma 16mm f1.4 or the sony 35mm f1.8, which one would you choose?
If I was doing more landscapes/wide shots, astrophotography, and if I absolutely needed a lens for RUclips video, Sigma 16mm f1.4. If I was taking more portraits, street photography, I’d choose the Sony 35mm f1.8. Hope that helps!
Taking an Alaskan cruise in July. Would you recommend the Sigma?
What are you’re thoughts on the Sigma 30mm Lens?
I’m about to buy the Sony a6600 so I’m thinking of what Lense to pick up
It’s awesome. Very sharp, fast at 1.4, lightning quick focus. I did a review on it! Here: ruclips.net/video/jaMXIor04WY/видео.html

i scooped the rokinon 12mm about 5 months ago....let me tell you, if you wanna get into astrophotography...pair it with the A6000 and its gold, my favorite lens by far....i also just copped the 18-105mm Sony joint you were mentioning....its a god-send......but yea, Rokinon is amazing
my fav ..is the Sony 50mm F1.8 the sel version though not the full frame version as it sucks
I’ve heard that, crazy. I’m definitely gonna pick that lens up one day.
I like the review you made on the 35mm f1.8
Its made me want to get 1 but it dosent come cheep.
Depends on light, but not off the top of my head. I’ll have to test and get back to you.
Just wondering what you're using as your viewfinder with your camera, and how your set up is.. I have been making videos but I cannot figure out how to connect my Sony a6000 to my laptop or anything to use it as a viewfinder. Any help will be awesome!
Check out my “RUclips Setup” video. I use an external monitor! 🙌🏻
I was thinking that xt20 with xf18-55mm kitlens is greater than sony with 30mm sigma lens, but then I havent tried the fujifilm yet to prove it..🙄
It may be. The X-T20 is a $900 camera. Plus it came out in late Feb 2017. So it’s got newer tech inside it.
Do we need all of these ? Because atm I only have a kit lens atm and how to master kit lens photography and videography ,Thnx
You don’t need them no. I’ll do a video soon on what you can achieve with the kit lens!
@@kyletaggart my video setting dont seem to be working it says ..Movie recording starts with movie button. Still image shooting is invalid in this mode it is only available in modes other than movie mode , and doesn't record, can u help me
When in movie mode you can only record movies. You have to be in any other mode for photo. It’s the dial with “A”, “S”, ect on it.
the g series 18-105 f4 is my main lens, around other lenses,i do toyphotography 100% with that lens it's not makro but somehow the detail is amazing
It’s a nice piece of glass! If you want to experiment check out the Fotasy lens I made a video about. It’s super cheap and you would get better background blur.
Nice video man,i use 7artisan 25mm f 1.8 for night and indoor photography
I have a really stupid question that hopefully you or the audience can answer. When I try zooming in almost all the way with my 18-105, it's blurry and I have to press the shutter halfway to get focus. Is that how zoom lenses work? I have this lens for a while now but never had the need to zoom all the way in.
I’d have to test it myself but I believe it has to re-focus. When you focus at 18mm it has certain objects in front and certain in back, it focuses the scene accordingly (also keep in mind f stop). When you zoom in, that point will be blurry or not based on the first focus. Not 100% certain on my thought here, will have to test myself!
hikyletaggart thank you. If you could test it, that would be great. I just wanted to make sure the lens is not defective in any way
Hey I bought a Tamron 70-300mm lens. But upon receiving, it says it’s for a Sony D. Is there an adapter I can buy to make it fit the E mount?
Honestly not sure Marcus!
They are different lenses but would you preferred the 18 mm to 105 mm over the 16 to 50?
100%, however if you’re doing handheld vlogging, then the 16-50 would be better as it’s way lighter.
hikyletaggart what about video for a RUclips channel... a mix of talking head and music videos?
18-105 would be much better
Love this video! Will be considering the a6000 and some of the lenses you had on here. I will let you know what I go with. Thank you!
Thanks so much Dennis! If you do, consider using a link from the video. It helps support the channel a ton. Whatever you go with enjoy your new camera!!
I definitely will. I will let you know when I do purchase the camera.
It’s actually cheaper than the 18-105 G lens as well (by$100).
hikyletaggart It’s the new SEL one I like not the SAM for full frame. It’s about $600, even dearer here in Britain
Oh I see it now! Released in January. Nice!
Quality seems to be at least as good as the 18-105 but no constant f4 of course. For videography the zoom wouldn’t be so good but I’m all about stills. I tried it on my body at the local dealer, so compact and well balanced. But man it’s expensive.
That glass gets quite pricy!
Kyle, Do you have any youtube videos on using the A6000 movie/video settings? Thanks!
Not necessarily. I have the “bokeh basics” video and the tips n tricks which apply to video as well!
I really like your channel! Have you tried moon shots? Is there any lens you recommend for that with the a6000. I just acquired the camera (you convinced me!) and would like to give a try.
I have not! As for lens, the pricey side there is the 70-350mm by Sony. That would be perfect. Otherwise I bet the 55-210 would do ok!
@@kyletaggart Awesome! Thanks 😊
Thanks!
Is probably choose the 18-105 because it’s a G lens and the constant F4.
Thanks!
Have you tried out the sigma 30mm 1.4?
Got multiple videos on it! A vs video, and also a dedicated review. Check a couple videos back from my most recent.
So what do you think, is this right one? and what lens would you suggest?:)
Thank you!
You won’t be able to see yourself for vlogs if you’re filming yourself while walking. However the wide focus w/ kit lens is good at keeping you in focus. It’s a cheaper camera that has great quality. The Canon M50 is a great camera as well, that may suit your needs.
Thank you for answer! will check canon also:)
I think you're pulling off more of the Fotasy lens than you're are supposed to. My fujian lens also comes apart in a similar way but it's not supposed to be operated like that. Are sure the cap doesn't just slide off of the part you are unscrewing?
Yeah it’s literally a threaded cap. Almost like a pipe cap or something. Still love that little lens though!
Check my latest video out. You may be able to hear the difference 😁
Hi kyle awesome videos i just purchase a sony a6000 with kit lens, i was wonder what kind of lens you recommended for travel, in budget 😀.
Thx
Budget is hard in photography, especially when you need auto focus. The Sony 35mm f1.8 is a perfect small, sharp, travel lens. But it’s pricey, at $450. Another is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 Sony also has some pancake lenses. 20mm and 16mm f2.8
hikyletaggart thx im trying to get the the sony 38 mm, thx for the videos i will keep watching for tips in photography, thx again and keep the good work
Anytime! Thanks for watching and commenting,
Hi, if you had to choose between the 16 and 35mm for travel photography/instagram and all around, which one would you recommend?
Probably the 35mm, but like I tell everyone, it’s my preference of focal length. If you like a wider perspective go with the sigma 16mm, it’s an amazing lens. I just prefer the look of the 35mm.
Hi great video, which lens would you recommend for street photography? Also I would suggest to talk a bit on the crop factor. i.e. 35mm lens on A6000 is essentially a 50mm. But great vid :)
I would definitely say the 35mm 1.8 Sony. I will talk about the crop factor soon!
If you think you’ll want some closer shots from a distance, then maybe consider the two lenses combo.
hikyletaggart thanks man. Definitely gonna buy the camera with the 2 kit lens next month.
Sick! Have fun!
Hi, do you know of any kind of art lenses (like lensbaby) for the Sonya6000 that are also auto focus? Thanks!
No clue what lensbaby is. Can you let me know?
What the heck do you use that Fotasy for????
What bout the Rokinon f1.2?
What's your next lens? I own A6000 & sony 35mm f1.8 oss. I'm thinking to get new lens for portrait with creamy bokeh.
I actually kinda want the same thing. The 50mm is “cheap, I think I may pick it up! Also, even though my gf already has it, I want my own Sigma 16mm. I feel bad borrowing hers all the time haha.
which is better, sony 35mm f1.8 vs sony 50mm f1.8 ?
please answer.. thanks
I haven’t ever used the 50mm 1.8, but I’d probably say the 35mm is better.
@@kyletaggart why 35mm is better?
Honestly, just pure speculation on my part. Half of it is preference.
Honestly, just pure speculation on my part. Half of it is preference.
18-105❤️💚
Great vid man!
If you could only have one out of the four? What lens would you choose?
Literally filming a video on that today. So stay tuned 😊✌🏻
I will!
To use an A mount you need the adapter!
Congratulations on surpassing 15000 subscribers!
Thanks Jit! Good to see you stopping by!
I like my kit lens, but therre are sometimes that i want more wide angle. So I'm thinking to buy an wide converter lens, do you know any options?
I haven’t messed with any converters yet, I’m sorry! Hopefully in the future
Dropped my a6000 kit lens, turned it on it says “cannot recognize lens attache it properly” I already cleaned the lens/camera and putting the lens properly but it’s not working. Pls help! 💔😭
Does it actually snap in? Also how long have you had it? Reach out to the company you bought it from and Sony to see if they can help!
What are you using for a mic? I struggle with the Sony sound and overheating when filming videos.
I use the Zoom H1 for RUclips videos.
Awesome Vids bro! I got all the lens that you showed except the 16mm. Have you tried the Sigma 30mm 1.4? Is the Sony35mf1.8 shoot better quality than the Sigma? Thanks
Thanks for watching! I’ve heard the Sigma is just as sharp as the Sony 35mm but I don’t know since I’ve never used it. I may try that lens out though!
hikyletaggart owww. Okay. Thanks for a quick response.
No problem! Also keep an eye out. My next video will be about a lens I’m giving away for hitting 1,000 subscribers! ✌🏻😁
hikyletaggart oh WOW! Yahh I think I should! Subscribed! I'm also a hobbyist! Lol Photography for fun! Thanks thanks
What tell me about this lens Zeiss Vario-Tessar T * E 16-70 mm F4 ZA OSS (SEL1670Z) To buy or not for my a6300 camera?
Heard it’s overrated for the price. I’d go with the 18-105 G f4 over that.
Hey this 35mm Prime is actually 52mm on the Sony 6400 right?
It’s full frame equivalent is 52mm yes.
Thanks
You recorded this vid with the A 6000, how was your focus settings?
(AF-C) Auto Focus Continuous I believe.
