I can tell already that I am going to learn a ton from this series. Thanks for putting out all this educational content. What are your thoughts on adjusting timing so the top cam hits the stop a little ahead of the bottom cam when natural hold is low vs moving the nock up. What effect does a high arrow compared to center of berger holes have on tune? I think I’ve heard Paige recommend speeding up the top cam to help with low hold issues. Does DL / loop length also affect hold position or does length only affect float aspects of hold?
I run my top stop hitting first to help pull me up on target as I'm aiming and executing. The higher up the berger button hole the arrow goes, along with the loop, the more leverage you'll have over the top of the bow. It can become too much though at some point and you'll start relaxing and cause worse sight picture. It's a hard game of finding that balance. Draw length affects the shoulder stability the most for overall motion. The loop is a leverage device. Shorter loop, more leverage. Longer loop, less leverage. Too short and you'll have the rear elbow too high and you'll drive the aim downwards though.
The loop controls the back half of the body with the release arm and shoulder position. Too short and you get too much leverage and can see erratic movement and too long and you won’t have enough force to hold the bow up at full draw. It’s fine tuning the length of the loop to give us the leverage we need to hold the bow up and not overpower it during execution for the style of shot execution we use. ie: pulling through, punching, stagnant shot, dynamic shot.
I guess I must not be focusing on the right thing. When people talk about the shot breaking either good or bad I understand what it means but I never am able to pin point a shot after I release. Should I be focusing on the pin or the target?
There's different camps of thought here. If you're shooting well now I wouldn't change anything. I focus between the two and more monitor what's happening and try to not overcontrol the pin. I want to keep it in the right area but after I start my shot I am trusting my sub-conscious to bring the pin back to the middle when it breaks the shot. Doing this, you'll have an idea where the pin might have been but that doesn't always mean it's where it actually way. By the time the brain processes the image of the pin in a certain area and then sends that to a receptor, the pin will already be in a totally different location.
@@rcrchery Thanks Robert. Unfortunately I have struggled with target panic forever and have tried to re-learn the shot process to a surprise shot vs my normal fast, command shot. I have tried all the tricks but I keep reverting back. I feel like my focus is more on the pin and it maybe causing the anxiety. Tough for an old dog to learn new tricks. I appreciate the reply. Keep up the great videos.
Send me an email And let’s dive into that a little more. I have a target panic course I’ve built from a Stanford research program on ocd that’s helped a lot of people, myself included. RCRchery@gmail.com
It’s a clear fiber with blue light through my sight light. It’s not that transparent in real life but it doesn’t starburst and that’s what I was after.
I'm really liking it a lot. The backwall is super solid so I am having to get used to that but I've updated draw length/loop length to help accommodate for that and just have me a little longer than I was previously. It aims well and holds well. The riser is Deflexed still but not a lot like I had on my Supra so it's easier to get back to the middle when I'm floating. I've noticed a jump in scores. I don't have a new average yet because I haven't shot many scoring ends but my first scoring end with it was a 300 23x Vegas round and was really promising. On the Supra I was averaging 298/299 with 17x's for comparison. No matter what I did I just couldn't get myself back to shooting 300's consistently with it.
Yes. It depends on the issues with holding low. Is it aiming related mentally; think a form of Target Panic. Is it that the leverage over the bow is too much and you're relaxing to let the aim settle? Ect. What are you experiencing and I'll see if I can lend a hand through text or if I'd need to see you shooting.
@rcrchery leverage on the bow. I know moving the loop can help but I want to avoid that for now. It is specifically as I begin to pull and push thru a shot when it begins to creep low.
I can talk about that on a video but the short answer is; once I set up a custom set from Gas Bowstrings it doesn’t require anymore maintenance for the most part. With a stock set I’ll have to keep adjusting them for stretch frequently. For a target how that I want feeling and performing perfectly it just makes more sense to go custom. Plus I can have the center serving diameter built for my nocks and a perfect fit how I want them to be.
makes perfect sense, just an extra cost right out of the gate. but if thats what you want its worth it. Cheers and thanks for all the knowledge. @@rcrchery
My stock strings on my Gen2 39 had a bad serving issue on the control cables that many experienced with this bow. I immediately went with a custom GAS set and have had no issues since.
My set of Gas strings will be here tomorrow. I like having the stock strings as guinea pigs to test all sorts of things out and get everything in place then swapping to new ones with the measurements taken and having a backup set just in case. @@fletchusmc
Looking forward to the rest of this series!
Thanks for watching!
good stuff. really need to play with my loop location more.
Thank you sir! Definitely is a big part of what I do for hold.
Another great video, knowledge is your greatest asset, you can’t fix what you don’t is wrong 🏹🏹
Thanks, Bryan!

Great stuff again!! It really help
Glad to help!
Catching up on missed videos 🙈🙈 but more info on fighting pin wanting to drop low during the shot
I can make that happen!
Does it change the hold feel opening up the loop to add soft knocks?
I don’t notice a difference. I run the same size nocking points top and bottom and it keeps it all centered.
@@rcrchery I run one extra knot on the bottom usually. But that's a feel thing so this would probably do the same. Thanks for the great content 👌
I'm pretty new to self tuning my bows. Can you explain further exactly how and why loop length affects stability at draw?
The loop controls the back half of the body with the release arm and shoulder position. Too short and you get too much leverage and can see erratic movement and too long and you won’t have enough force to hold the bow up at full draw. How do you get the transparent blue dot in your lens?
It’s a clear fiber with blue light through my sight light. It’s not that transparent in real life but it doesn’t starburst and that’s what I was after.
Do you have a different after market draw stop?
I do. They're from Shooting Time . Com They have a slot you can custom adjust the draw length to get you in between the half inch sizes.
How are you liking the new bow? In the market for a new target bow.
Are there other strategies for dealing with holding low besides moving the loop up?
Yes. It depends on the issues with holding low. Is it aiming related mentally; think a form of Target Panic. @rcrchery leverage on the bow. I know moving the loop can help but I want to avoid that for now. It is specifically as I begin to pull and push thru a shot when it begins to creep low.
For this I’d let a twist out of the top cam’s cable to let the top stop hit before the bottom stop. That should help you while expanding.
@rcrchery I have an elite verdict so that as simple as adjust the top cable stop. Thanks. I will give that a try. I appreciate the help
can you do a video on why you take brand new factory strings off and install custom strings? I would run factory for the first year.
