You can start off by boiling the broccoli for 1 to 2 mins. Will not lose it's nutrients unless boiled close to 5 mins. Boiling it first gives them a good cleaning & removes pesticides. Then add olive oil & whatever spices you like. Either sauté or oven roast & enjoy. I like mine with some fresh lemon juice on top.
The first step is washing the broccoli by soaking it in salt water for 10 minutes. A brocoli farmer told me they put tons of pesticides on brocolis to get rid of worms, so salt water washes those off better than water. Then you can cook with a drizzle of cold water on low heat and cover the pot to keep the steam inside once the water gets hot. You can then add a bit of oil if you like a light frying because the initial water already penetrated the brocoli and cooked it al dente.
@@pa5666 If the nutrients are mixed with pesticides, are they more nutritious? The idea is helping wash away pesticides so that you get a healthier meal out of your vegetable. Atwa Chef Mike is fine for convenience. The method shown in this video is the same as the steaming method also shown just prior. Claiming microwaving is healthier is false. Microwaving dries out all food by evaporating moisture in an unnatural way. Microwaving food also separates oils and fats, thereby ruining many foods. Cheese turns into rubber, bread turns into a disgusting consistency I can’t even describe, meats dry out. This can be counteracted by adding water to the dish, thus creating the steaming effect as shown in the video. I use this method for reheating previously cooked, leftover, refrigerated rice and frozen siopao buns. The exact same end result can be achieved in the oven, but the microwave is more convenient. Microwaves dehydrate food while heating in an unnatural way. Notice that the materials used to microwave the food in this video do not include the plastic that most people unwittingly use. Plastic is never microwave-safe, despite the claims that it is. When heated in a microwave, plastic has been shown to leech carcinogenic dioxins into the food. It is now recommended to transfer frozen TV dinners to a plate and cover foods with either a plate, as shown in the video, or a paper towel. When appropriate, I like to use a wet paper towel to get the steaming effect discussed above. Some plastics also contain BPA, a harmful chemical that can negatively effect the brains of fetuses and the prostate glands of male fetuses. It can also cause behavioral problems in children. BPA also artificially lowers testosterone levels, thus causing hormonal imbalances in men. Microwaving BPA-containing plastics leeches even more harmful BPA into the food. In the USA, most plastics produced now are BPA-free. The same may not true of imported items and definitely not true of older plastics.

@@guermeisterdoodlebug7980 There are many issues with microwaves, but one of them is that because of the type of heat, and the short cook time, it often does not kill the bacteria that normal cooking would. Also often times does not cook evenly as well. Also most of the time it makes the food soggy and whatnot. etc etc etc...
Usually i bought the organic broccoli. Put them into water with salt and soda for 30 minutes. Sometimes the dead warms appeared in the water. Then wash it carefully. And break the broccoli into small pieces, addind olive oil, soy souce, apple cide vinegar, eat broccoli raw, it tastes great without any cooking.
I just rinse the broccoli in water-the leftover water on the broccoli is enough that you don't need to add any more water. Then I microwave the broccoli for 3 minutes (not 6 minutes)--comes out very delicious.
Microwave, one and a half minutes. I usually do a big bowl, and then put in the fridge and have on salads for the next couple of days. I live in China and though it's not native here (beef broccoli is an American Chinese dish), it's super common and cheap.
I like to put just a small amount of water in the bottom of the sauté pan, bring to a hard boil, then add fresh broccoli (including stems if tender). Cover and cook (more like steam) for 4 minutes, drain any remaining water.
My 1100 watt MW does a great job @ 4 mins with about a table spoon of water. After, I add 1 tbls or so of butter. Mixes with the whats left of the water and coats the veg. Pretty satisfying all around.
Video starts at 1:38 - Steam it for 5 minutes or - microwave it with 2 table spoons of water for 6 minutes This video doesn't need to be nearly as long as it is
Thank you. Steaming may be the best way, but still not well explained. Possible to place the vegetable on the steamer, when water is boiling, diminish temperature and cover. Set timer for 4 or 5 minutes. What do you think about it? The microwave is not good. We do not need radiated food that kills nutrients and can get us sick.
An easy and very healthy way is to add a little olive oil to a pan or wok (start high heat for 1 minute and drop to medium). Add chopped decent size chunks of broccoli (stems and florets). Stems are the most nutritious part and delicious. Sprinkle a little garlic salt and pepper and cook medium heat for 2 minutes and add eggs and cook it with eggs for a couple of minutes. Done ✅ Son! 😎😉 Add some salsa and enjoy! You don’t lose nutrients if you barely cook it and the crunchiness is so good with eggs (not raw, but barely cooked broccoli) 🥦 🥚 🥰
I have a little querry regarding the point mentioned i.e pesticides are transferred into the water during boiling? And if it's true ,If we cook it without boiling then does it's not harmful for us?
I have always steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Fit a steamer in the saucepan. Bring the water to the boil. Add the broccoli, and some salt. Bring the heat down to medium and fit the lid. Set the timer for 5 minutes.
Thank you for this thorough video on the benefits of broccoli and the best way to cook and maintain it nutrients. I greatly appreciate your effort for a lot of us who are new and just exploring the world of cooking. I appreciate you. 😊
I stir fry toss lightly in oil , then pour in half a cup of water and cover to steam and remove immediately-it is no longer raw but still green, crunchy but cooked, and really tasty.
I use salt to clean any produce, and fruit as well, just sprinkle salt on any vegetables or fruit in a strainer let it stand for 5 or 10 minutes then rinse well with warm water .
When I want to disinfect my sponge I wash it and put it in the microwave to kill germs. Doesn't that also kill nutrients in food if you nuke it? I got rid of my microwave because of that reason.
I thicken the water with Arrowroot a resistant starch and drink the water also has cooked carrots, red onions, shitaki mushrooms. I serve the vegetables and drink the broth adding garlic and ginger
Roasted Broccoli - spray or brush florets with olive oil. Sprinkle paprika or red pepper flakes, parsley, salt. Toss to coat. Spread on cookie sheet. Roast at 350; 5 minutes. Turn over; roast another 5 minutes. Delicious with light coating of freshly grated parmesan cheese. Caulifower can be roasted this way, too.

I usually steam broccoli or sometimes add it to a soup. On occasions I have used the microwave. I have never boiled it in water. Oh and I always give it a good wash in clean water before cooking. Sometimes add salt to the wash.
No valid reason to cut the stem off and discard it. I eat broccoli often and can assure people it tastes and contains the same nutrients as the florets.
So true! I always steam it along with the rest Also, I put mustardpowder on the raw broccoli before steaming, creates a reaction that benefits nutrient availability
You've paid for often a large stalk so cut it into small batons and also cross cut the stalks on the florets. Into boiling water for 3 minutes. I tried to use the boiling water to make instant gravy but it makes it bitter so don't do that any more. Fresh is good but frozen florets are pretty close. No waste and economical all year round.

Well thats why you need a variety of veggies & fruit!! They all provide us with diff nutrients. I use an Asian bamboo Steamer & for me its the best way!! Must more crisp than microwave. One veggie can not provide all the nutrients our bodies need to function. Im a big fan of all types of cabbage as well. We use good butter on it as well! My veggies also taste good!
A+ for irradiating your food?
Uh, yeah. For sure. Bahaha
@@lucaschudleigh7193 is that bad? heating is a form of radiation so i guess thermal irradiation?
Boiling for 30 second and steaming for not more than 3 min. Immediately shock in cold water to stop cooking. This is correct information.
Put broccoli in the oven. 8 minutes I love it that way.
I like it in the Airfryer
What temperature??

I have known this for decades, I appreciate the reminder all the same.
I actually appreciate the extra details in this video. I think steaming is the best way to cook most veggies or even baking just depends. Ain’t noooo way microwaving is healthy though 🙅🏼♀️
Are you suggesting there is some way microwaving is unhealthful? Just in case yes, how did you determine that?
@@guermeisterdoodlebug7980 There are many issues with microwaves, but one of them is that because of the type of heat, and the short cook time, it often does not kill the bacteria that normal cooking would. Also often times does not cook evenly as well. Also most of the time it makes the food soggy and whatnot. etc etc etc...
@@guermeisterdoodlebug7980 I just saw on RUclips the other day, microwaving broccoli takes away nutrients.
@@tallchicknvegas Must be true if someone said on RUclips. What if tomorrow I posted that microwave concentrates and enhances nutrients?
No boiling. 30 + seconds pressure cooking in very little water. Perfectly warmed up broccoli. Lucia
Broccoli is one of the wonderful vegetables in the world. I also love broccoli and use it in my dishes
Shits for 5 minutes about health, and then throws it in the microwave. What a time to be alive 😂
😂😂😂😂
Exactly!!
Lmao
Are microwaves bad?
Seriously 😂
I just rinse the broccoli in water-the leftover water on the broccoli is enough that you don't need to add any more water. Then I microwave the broccoli for 3 minutes (not 6 minutes)--comes out very delicious.
Microwave, one and a half minutes. I usually do a big bowl, and then put in the fridge and have on salads for the next couple of days. I live in China and though it's not native here (beef broccoli is an American Chinese dish), it's super common and cheap.
My mom did boil broccoli and yet taste is good
yes...steaming is so much better and tastes so much better~
I like to put just a small amount of water in the bottom of the sauté pan, bring to a hard boil, then add fresh broccoli (including stems if tender). Cover and cook (more like steam) for 4 minutes, drain any remaining water.
I always thought microwaving distorts the nutrients but I might be wrong the light steaming is the only best way
My 1100 watt MW does a great job @ 4 mins with about a table spoon of water. After, I add 1 tbls or so of butter. Mixes with the whats left of the water and coats the veg. Pretty satisfying all around.
Video starts at 1:38
- Steam it for 5 minutes
or
- microwave it with 2 table spoons of water for 6 minutes
This video doesn't need to be nearly as long as it is
Bro, thank you
This is the 4 time I'm making this biryani. Best prawns biryani ❤
Microwave is the worst way to cook anything❗️
Please explain
Agree
I usually just boil broccoli in a little water only. Before that, wash it cleanly, soak in vinegar or eco-enzyme and salt.
Microwaving destroys the food i agree with Richard
Holy sh*t I'm glad this wasn't a video about how to put yourself out if you're on fire
thanks for the video, broccoli is very beneficial for the health of our bodies, it is mandatory to eat broccoli
Hi
Eggs straight up or beat?
@@nicholaslu4069 mix eggs in a bowl separately and whisk and then add them to the broccoli in the pan after it has cooked a little. 👍
@@jmart5581 Sounds delicious. Will cook tonight.
Thank you for showing me different ways to cook it .
I have a little querry regarding the point mentioned i.e pesticides are transferred into the water during boiling?
And if it's true ,If we cook it without boiling then does it's not harmful for us?
I hope not as I always eat it raw, I just give it a rinse under a cold tap first.
I just steam them , Period!!!
I serve the vegetables and drink the broth adding garlic and ginger
iv only recently learned how to cook but I love doing it I love broccoli
Come to the point directly .
How about roasting broccoli in the oven?
Roasted Broccoli - spray or brush florets with olive oil. Sprinkle paprika or red pepper flakes, parsley, salt. Toss to coat. Spread on cookie sheet. Roast at 350; 5 minutes. Turn over; roast another 5 minutes. Delicious with light coating of freshly grated parmesan cheese.
Caulifower can be roasted this way, too.

I love roasted vegetables, but I’m trying to give up oil. Fat,in where the flavors at.
I like these broccoli. Thanks for the recipe.
How about roasting it. I don't use a microwave
You are the fattest broccoli I've ever seen.
I steam them on high heat very quickly or dump them in boiling water for less than a minute I love them crispy oh and sometimes fry them as in stir fry and so on....
I always steam broccoli and carrots, great side dish.
So extra nutrients and extra pesticide due to the lack of boiling. Sounds great. I would
Boil for Atleast one minute to get rid of the pesticides
You should not cook(anyway) until the vegetables is soft; just blench it for about 30 seconds in boiling water, then put it in cold water to stop the cooking. After that, you can add salt/pepper to season it, or make saute beef and broccoli and many other recipes.
In many countries, broccoli is known as "a godsend medicine". Eating broccoli regularly can help prevent and aid in the treatment of cancer and many chronic diseases
"Boiling vegetables is bad"

microwaves are safe
Hahaha Tell me about it
This comment is very useful to save us all some time. Thanks.😀

Only ignorant fools think microwave ovens are dangerous because they failed their physics. Microwaved food only taste bad but it’s safe.
I always wash my vegetables with salt and turmeric mix luke water keep it for 15-20 minutes then rinse it well
Don’t drink the broccoli water due to pesticides but steam them and the pesticides magically disappear.
great video, how about sateu it in a wok or frying pan with oil/garlic, would that help not lose vitamin? thank!
VERY USEFUL DISIFORMATIONS.
ON CAN SEE THAT YOU KNOW NOTING ABOUT MICROWAVE.
I usually steam broccoli or sometimes add it to a soup. On occasions I have used the microwave. I have never boiled it in water.
Oh and I always give it a good wash in clean water before cooking. Sometimes add salt to the wash.
Steaming and not overcooking is the best method. Also they spelled substances wrong.

@jordi ree I am having me some RAW broccoli right now and I am loving it....and there is nothing you can phucken do about it.
@jordi ree naw dehydrated raw broccoli is something to throw your lip over lol its pretty good!
Sending back your kindness friend, thank you so much, may God bless us all.
No valid reason to cut the stem off and discard it. I eat broccoli often and can assure people it tastes and contains the same nutrients as the florets.
Me too Robert.
So true! I always steam it along with the rest
Also, I put mustardpowder on the raw broccoli before steaming, creates a reaction that benefits nutrient availability
i will try steaming them next time i make broccolis 🤩 seems so much easier than using the stove
I love broccoli and cauliflower 😋
Thank you, now I can prepare it more healthier 😊
Stir fry
I just and minimal water and steam at high heat to soften
Hey here's another solution: Just stir fry for anything less than 10 minutes..Wow!
Right buddy; perfect Broccoli...then a dash of olive oil and lemon juice to be served
Especially is you want to destroy all the nutrients.
Can't fathom that cooking in a microwave is recommended in this Vid, unbelievable!
The best way if boil the water first then pull the broccoli in, stir it for 30 seconds then pull it out drain with cool water. In this way, we don't have to worry neither about pesticide or losing of nutrition. 🙏🏻❤️🌸
Does that fully cook it? Also, do you add the olive oil afterwards?
@@kunntakentay if you want the broccoli to be fully cooked (soft) then either leave it in the boiled water a little longer or drain it with warm water. Add olive oil (or sesame oil) depending on the type of dish you want to serve. 🙏🏻❤️🌸
P.s: Remember to add some salt to the boiled water before pulling in the broccoli.
@@relaxforever7961 Blanching as you described sounds good to lose pesticides without losing the nutrition but leaving broccoli in water longer may cause loss of nutrition, wouldn't it be better to saute the blanched broccoli with some olive oil to cook them further ?
@@Soumyification broccoli is easily gotten soft; so leave it a little longer in boiled water in which I meant no longer than a minute. Or when you drain it, drain it with warm water instead of cold - the heat will eventually soften the broccoli. In boiling water, adding a pint of salt & some oil helps the keeping green of the broccoli.
@@relaxforever7961 Thanks for the clarification :-) your method makes more sense than the methods described in the video, I am surprised that they've recommended microwave when some research shows that anti-oxidants and some vitamins are destroyed by microwaving.
Thanks for sharing this vedio good info for me as I have my problem of my ovary new friend here
When they started actual procedure I got bored and moved out 🙃
I never boil broccoli for more the 45 seconds. Then a bit of lemon and butter and sea salt. I do like the olive oil idea.
Took 6 years just to tell us how to cook broccoli in a microwave....
Healthy breakfast lunch and dinner! Great job!
Wonderful recipe, thank you)
Thank you for sharing this video with me. I have some broccoli. I have been cooking it wrong , but I will try cooking it in a different way.
Get an Asian Bamboo steamer. RUclips it, and its 100% healthier!! They are super cheap, and farther up from the fire so the veggies also cook fast, and they are WAYY more crisp!! Put a tab of good quality butter, steam some mini potatoes and cook a steak!! An American tradition made healthy!! My gfs lost over 100 lbs & swears by steamed veggies!!

Are u crazy? Microwave is the worst!
Why, what's wrong with microwaving?
People need to understand the difference between MAGNETIC radiation and NUCLEAR radiation.
Your food is not radioactive and glowing from a microwave oven.
@@lockudlad its causes cancer, its even banned in countries like Germany

You could also be saving the water used for boiling vegetables & use it for fertilizer in your gardens? Potassium in Potatoes, etc.. Even the water from Tuna cans or Salmon cans can be used as a rich fertilizer in nitrogen.. water it down & dilute it for maximum efficiency..
The KEY here is to find the veggie with out any chemical products, then steam ,better yet eat raw,I like ranch,or blue cheese
