Hay Joe & Ryan this is such great timing for me. It’s a real helpful look into what I’m going to go threw next weekend. My partner is an ultra runner and she signed up for the 50km Archie’s (mt bulla) just cause she liked the tshirt. 🤪 I’m new to running and couldn’t let her do it alone. The best things in life are shared. You have really given me the confidence that I can conquer myself and get it done. Thanks for the understanding. Rusty
Hay joe. I was visited by several demons and I vocally quit 5 times. I laid on the ground at all of the aid stations. And just couldn’t go any further. At the 41km aid station the medics told me I was making a good decision by pulling out of the race. This was the time to make the big decisions. All the demons were there and they where super polite. Usually they are loud and condescending, when they tell me how useless I am or how out of my league it is. But this time they were polite and caring “your injured if you go further you could do more damage”. I’m 46 I don’t like politeness I want the brutal truth when I’m facing big decisions. The last 12 kms were brutal. Not compared to the rest of the course. But a real grind, I made it to within 100m of the summit of Mount Buller and completely turned off I was done completely cooked. All I had to do was get to the top and rip a page out of a book. Nope get stuffed I don’t care not doing it. Sitting on the ground with nothing left. I watched as two 100km runners were attacked the summit with slow determination. The lead runner asked me if I was resting before making it to the top or I was ready to go down. Before he asked that question I was going down. But I picked myself up and walked with them to the top. I got to the top ripped the page out of the book. Took a few photos with the partner would look pretty fresh. Only 2km to go to the finish shoot. This was done now no short cuts, I stepped the entire course. I don’t know what it is about the running community but they will help you with the right words at the right time every time. They will stop their progress to ensure that you continue with yours. So threw it all I completed the 50km Archie’s. C250k in one year. Rusty.
Thank for sharing I am just starting my Ultra running journey. Having been a triathlete completed 27 Ironmans and the World Championship. I always despised the run, was my weakest discipline. I have a newfound respect for running and pushing new limits. Thanks for this inspiration
Now this is the 'Reality tv' that should be shown on primetime. So inspiring Ryan ; subbed. Be intrested to know what you eat during these ultra runs. The Australian Goggins. Training through the night : something else
Awesome video, thank you for making it. I know Ryan personally having spent long hours with him whilst inking him. He is a truly inspirational human, and an easy going all around great guy.
Great doco, it was well made and told a great story. Congrats to Ryan on his recent LOS Australian record, 59 laps I believe it was. Outstanding effort and it’s impressive to see him transition so well from MuayThai to running.
Great video. Ryan is very motivational to watch and you can tell that his wife is extremely supportive. I loved the part where the filmmaker was asking about something later that night and she replied "I am only worried about what is going on right now."
Man this was inspiring. I've been stuck in a rut lately and this video helped me get some perspective on life. Excellent work! Cant wait to go for my run tomorrow :)
If you want to see the epitome of mental toughness; go to one of these events. Many people think they would never be able to run that far but it's all about the mind. Ryan hit the nail on the head that these distances are more mental than physical. Great video and thanks for sharing; from a fellow ultra-runner this is a great story.
I was watching a doco on Netflix on extreme sports and I craved more than the show was giving me which led me to this documentary. Wow, world class, I like how one of his main motivations is to inspire other people. I'll be frank sometimes just getting up off the couch is difficult because of lack of motivation or mindset, exactly what he says, you'll find every excuse not to. He seems like a top bloke to, elated to see he does some of his runs out at Ipswich where I reside.
Inspirational such a positive mental attitude, I'm just starting to run after cycling for years and my body is being battered with it, this has inspired me to go further.
Hey Ryan thanks for sharing this video, you just confirmed that the mind is a very powerful weapon. it was also so inspiring to see that you have a demanding job besides your training as well. Also well done to your wife supporting you seeking more limits and barriers to be conquered. I am hooked, and is a self confess fan now.
Fantastic video. Subscribed. My wife and I really enjoyed it. We loved how you captured the family support aspect of doing these events. Very timely as I head down for the Oscars 100 on Thursday. Cheers - Mark & Jo
Awesome doco. Ryan is the epitome of Determination. I met him at the Butter24 I did my 1st 100k (102.8k) /12hr while he did the incredible 48hr track event and I enjoyed his journey and fighting background. Like my run buddy/club coach in Ipswich in his late 60s would say... K.B.O. When it feels like the limit has been reached... he Keep Buggering On. Awesome Grind. Cheers, Zac
What an extraordinary human being! I can’t believe he works a regular job too… I thought these guys were paid runners by running companies. Major major respect to this guy!

Nicely done. I've seen a number of LOS videos and most of them are way too choppy to keep track of the laps, distances, and featured runner. Some really beautiful daylight sequences! Those toes were very much a miss for me. Ugh! Ryan needs quality shoes which probably means he needs a sponsor to be able to afford them. I'm watching someone do a very long stage race and his feet were perfect by the end -- of course, he has a shoe sponsor. Sigh.
Needs to sort his training out... Doing a load of junk miles is not sustainable. Not sure what his coach is doing if he thinks that's suitable training!? This bloke will be injured and gone from ultras within a couple of years.
