this is my origins. : ) !!! my parents were part of the mid 70s Back To the Land movement in the salmon river , a whole little world of cabins and families ! thats what I was born into, my parents and the whole crowd of their friends from your hometown here in the Northbay lived up there with many other families, from the forks of the salmon by the store and in the surrounding mountains, Home Power Magazine came out of there, and a lot of other things were started there. In the late 70s the forest service came through with a thousand different reasons to kick everybody out and then proceeded to burn down the cabins, and then not surprisingly the entire forests went up in flames in the following years. By the time they were done there was only a scant amount of people scattered here and there still holding on mostly being gold miners. Frank Y . s still there I believe you can find him in the bar, Harry W. and Barry B. Live to the east , as many people went out either to the coast and north into Oregon or out to the small towns at the base of the mountains towards Yreka. I remember how it was with the Store at the forks of the salmon, and the little door in the back that led to the bar, it was bar ,post ,office store, and gathering spot for everybody, those roads out there,.... if anybody ever gets to drive them are incredible, literally like some Peruvian road of death, and the locals do about 90 miles an hour down them, if you want to see the heart of rugged rugged north California that is the place to go. And there, in the bar, ask for Frank , he knows a lot of the stories. Thank you April ! you always find the Real California.

@@FindingNorcal Drove that road many times for a couple rafting companies. The stretch near the Freight Train Rapids is the most treacherous. With an eighteen passenger van and a raft trailer hooked up behind those narrows were harrowing to pass. You were always alert for what was around the blind corners. Just drive that road slowly. Goes without saying. Beautiful canyon the Salmon River.
Frank the red crank is long gone, as is the bar.

Everyone gets better than the others nice job, thank you. Notice man's best friend in most of the pitchers. A live saver in the day, watch dog and warmth at night. On a really cold night it was said to be a three- dog night.
