- In this episode, I constructed a cozy survival shelter with a wood stove. For the construction, I utilized the natural structure of a large stone, which provided both shelter and served as a reflector for the stove's heat. I used the surrounding deadwood and moss as building materials for my survival shelter. To insulate the floor, I employed some spruce twigs. For dinner, I enjoyed deliciously prepared meat and potatoes, cooked directly on the wood stove.

It's always interesting to see the variety of equipment that these campers have, and the different ways/places they construct shelters. Many years ago I camped with my son, the third Saturday in January, on the ice, on the backwater of our local river. No hot tents then and we were not permitted any source of heat inside the tent. The camp leader was very experienced and coached the first-timers through. My son (now 40) still talks about those times.
What an unforgettable camping experience! Camping on the ice with no heat inside the tent must have been quite the adventure.

Using all natural materials is great, but if you can bring yourself to pack at least one shelter building material with you, take a few large pieces of cardboard. Waxed, if possible. It makes an _excellent_ roofing material, and if you give it enough structural support it can last for months even in heavy rain.

Might have packed a plate and cutlery. After all you did pack a stove ! Now its just dawned on me, you forgot the fold up kitchen sink so you would have no place to clean the dirty dishes. Doh!
