  • This step by step video will show you how to repair Ford adjustable pedals. This is on a 2004 Ford Expedition but the concept is the same on most Ford adjustable pedals.

There's a replacement gear available made from brass. There's a guy that CNC manufactures them. The pedals in my Mercury Marauder did this and I replaced the gear for $95 and labor to remove/reinstall the pedals. Now my Town Car did the same thing. Curless Auto Repair in Grand Rapids, Mi. Talk to a guy named Chris and he has replacement gears that will never break.

I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car Cartier L with just 85K on it. It is truly the best car that I have ever owned. Even the torque converter has a drain plug on it allowing you to drain it too when changing your transmission fluid/filter. When it comes to the adjustable brake pedal though Ford dropped the ball when they used a pedal with a plastic gear instead of an aluminum or brass one. They may have saved a few dollars using the cheaper gear but in the end they produced something that was just destined to fail. The problem being that most people keep their left foot on the pedal when adjusting it out thereby putting pressure on the plastic gear that it just won't hold up to for long thereby cracking it.

I appreciate the major effort to video this in addition to the R&R; I know it wasn't an easy task. It is a very good video and helped me to decide if I want to make the fix. Thanks much.

Thank you so much for this video. I watched it about 5 times before starting the project and again during the change out. You made it seem much easier than it was for me to do it.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful when I get the replacement pedal assembly for my '03 Expy. It's a shame there is no replacement for that cheap plastic gear. Cheers!

David, I have a 2015 Ford Expedition with adjustable pedals but the "low" point is very high. Can that be adjusted? I'm 6'3" with long legs and it wears me out in stop and go traffic, plus I often barely catch the brake with only my toes, so this is a safety concern.
My Ford dealer tells me they can not fix it, but I'm not sure I believe that. Other Expeditions are not this way.

Good god that’s an expensive fix for a 17 year old truck that’s prone to many failures. I’ll stick to the videos that show you how to spin it freely for free! Great video though, kudos for that. I have to wonder though if that’s not just an off the shelf gear you can order in for much cheaper. Doubt ford manufactured a special gear just for the pedals. I just can’t justify dropping a couple hundred to fix this problem in MY own case. Already bought the truck used for 2k and put new tires and brakes on it as well as replaced a window regulator, fixed some electrical issues including a $400.00 fuse box due to the dreaded fuel pump relay failure on these things, etc

Could this be the reason why I intermittently have loss of power until I press on the pedal a bit further on my 04 f150? About 1/4 throttle maybe.

It looks like that part (4L1Z-2455-BA) has been discontinued and perhaps Ford has now replaced it with part number 2L1Z-2455-BB instead. Looks identical to me, perhaps they've fixed the problem?

Thank you so much for this new part number. I looked for the part number in the video and found it was discontinued, and wasn't sure what to do until I read your comment.

Looks nothing like the gear in the pedal adjustment

It says the gear is for a 99-02 Expedition, so it probably won't work on the newer models.

Hissing brake pedal is a bad brake booster.

This is called planned obsolescence and all manf. do it GRRR! How else would they make money on parts.
