Another great way to know when someone is the winner: when Jeff says "the winner of Survivor..." that's the only way I've been able to tell
I know because google
Jk winners at war and RUclips lmao
Jeff won
That’s a great idea
every szn except ghost island 😂
Idk Jeff might just be Canadian, you don't want to jump to conclusions.

@@09chem Production Crew really did not give her the best edit during Ghost Island despite her being one of the key players in the majority alliances.
Nalyd She made it far in Ghost Island, won two immunities, and was really important in the majority alliance but only got four confessionals throughout the season
Queen of sitting ❤

'I don't need to be carried, bro' - underrated iconic queen.
after WaW, I don't think Michele is underrated anymore. It seems like the community's opinion of her has risen to the dizzying heights of where it should be
@@Blackacre438 yeah, I don't either, which I'm really happy to see.. people went from pissed she didn't get second in KR to pissed she didn't get second in WaW, LOL, and she deserves it.
@@rosiellagrace From my perspective it wasn't that people thought she deserved second place, but that Natalie didn't deserve second place. But my perspective is limiting so who knows.
Tony deserved all the votes and after winners at war, Michele can be considered one of the best social players. Not better than Parvati, Kim, Sarah but we at least have an idea on what type of player she is. She’s not a strategist, she doesn’t control votes and clearly her bonds with players are good but her ability to keep them around isn’t. Michele doesn’t need to be stood up for anymore or defended. She showed what she can and cannot do after this season. Hopefully, the whole whiny routine from her of not getting any respect is over.
Natalie White’s winners edit was so sad. It’s like they wanted fans to hate her
I think their mistake was not realizing fans would be so enthralled by Russell and root for him despite his social shortcomings. They corrected their mistake in HVV by making him even more unlikeable.
@@harrdeeharr Their mistake was giving Russell 90% of the airtime
i didn't mind Russel being "unlikable" in HvV, he was amazing at the game and i loved watching him and i rooted for him, evil A**hole or not.
I literally finished that season an hour ago and I completely agree with you. I disliked Eric a lot but what he said in the final tribal was so true. Russell is praised for being an arrogant dick, and even tho I personally appreciate his gameplay, that's not the point here, the point is that Natalie was belittled for her strategy - a strategy that eventually was BETTER than Russell's! She won, ergo she played a better game. In the reunion show Jeff completely ignored Natalie's victory and demanded the contestants to explain why on earth she had won over Russell even though the aUdiEnCe LovEd RuSseLL sO muCH. It was very sad to see, Jeff is not a good person. Entertainment value and creating conflict is all that matters to him.
Plus, there's always misogyny in Survivor. A woman has to balance between 1) being a silent threat and then being portrayed as riding coattails, and 2) playing the game like men are allowed to and then being portrayed as a villain. It sucks. Jeff sadly exchanged his soul for entertainment value, and - even though he "apologized" without actually apologizing for his past behaviour in the s40 finale - he is always very misogynistic every single season.
@@rm_skis I personally feel like Jeff only creates drama on the show for higher ratings
When Tommy uttered the words
"I'm a 4th Grade Teacher" I got a winner's vibe from him
Another subtle "tell" of a winners edit, is when they are getting attention in a key scene or situation that really isn't about them, yet we still get their take or perspective. When Sarah had her "It's changed me" monologue during the dreaded Zeke getting outed by Varner T.C. I knew she was the winner of Game Changers after that
Aubrey was the best decoy winners edit. I was completely shocked Michelle won. When the decoy is really good (Rick Devens) they will get most of the screen time.
Russel in Samoa.
I love Michelle but Aubrey should have won atleast one season.
Tommy's winners edit was sealed for me when his perception on Dan's allegations were mysteriously absent. Regardless of whether his views on Dan were positive or negative, we didn't really hear about them, therefore protecting his edit from controversy.
Yeah, this was going to be an example I had listed for my original draft of this video idea -- going down the line listing examples of particular editing choices for each winner. And Tommy's omission from that incident was one such example, similar to Cochran when Brandon Hantz was removed.
@@Peridiam oh wow yes, another great example!
This is a really good point
Peridiam We did get Cochran’s take on it from confessional but he was silent besides verbally voting for Brandon at the tribal council held at the challenge, so good point
Peridiam You also have to take into consideration how Sarah’s edit was during the Tribal where Zeke was outed. Out of all the people that spoke, Sarah’s words, of all people, were the ones that resonated to us the most. It pissed me off at first. Her words should not have weighed more heavily than Zeke’s or Varner’s for that matter. The words right before Varner was unanimously and verbally voted out did not come from Varner nor Zeke, but from Sarah. I can understand that now in that the editors wanted to make her more likable. It was then obvious to me that out of all the notable contestants they brought back, she had a lot of attention because of her edit. There were some really shady things that Sarah did in Game Changers, but the ultimate goal of the editors was to distort that in order to make Sarah look better.
Biggest winner edit clue: be the third person voted out
It works 1/20 of the time...
The Pan Patriots Fan 1/40
The Pan Patriots Fan Yeah Chris is right

Last time I was this early Russel Hantz was still looking good to win.
Fluff Snowball when you also comment something about Russell Hantz.....
So u were never this early?💀
This is kinda sad
Can you do an episode on the "this is your last day" edit? There are so many people that you can just tell mid episode that they are going home. When they are good they could be perceived as maybe the start of a winners edit.
yes!
Id say there's plenty of that in the foreshadowing compilations lol
Roger from Amazon immediately springs to mind
you know its coming when they say theyre in control
Oooh that sounds mwa
After the episode: “this is extortion”, it was obvious that it would’ve been Tony who won.
Tony or sarah I wasn't sure which one until sarah lost fire maybe it was more ovious to you but ...
i feel like survivor has the only fandom thats aware of the impact editing has on a show and how its made to fit the producers storyline. I LOVE IT! survivor fans are next level
Not really. Any reality show that is completely finished filming before the editing starts has fans reading into the edit. You can find numerous threads online of people talking about winners edits in The Amazing Race for example
(Assuming you mean reality shows) This is a widly different type of show but from what I've seen, Drag Race fans can similarly spot obvious editing. The same terms used for Survivor tend to also be used in that fandom, with some additions. Winner's edit, villain edit, shady edit, sometimes even Miss Congeniality edit (if you are unaware, Miss Congeniality is basically the queen who was most liked by the other queens or friendliest/nicest of the season.) Other than that though I think you're right, but I also don't watch much reality tv so idk
Nah, most shows have a pattern. RPDR has the most obvious and predictable one of them all.
@@dwell7315 Yes drag race is the easiest thing to figure out. You can figure out which queen gets sent home each episode from editing as well as winner and miss congeniality editing as well. And individual challenge wins/loses editing is something you can USUALLY figure out
@@SierraSpeaksTooMuch Okay yeah, you kind of have a point there.

In the latest season of Australian Survivor, they literally show the winner triumphantly brandishing the immunity idol over his head right when they say "but who will be crowned sole survivor?" in the intro - It only got more obvious after that.
Hated the coronation edit in aus allstars whilst the rest of the cast barely existed by comparison.
Only one other person in the final 5 that season got a consistent edit and it was still obvious the other person besides the winner was a longshot
vaporterra
so winners at war basically
@@TheMurrmursonbottle nah id say michelle and natalie had a good edit
Yes they failed to properly present counter winner arguments like they should for Brooke. They also should be giving out more consistent confessionals to others that went deep into the game especially as there is more overall screentime. It's one thing as an Australian, I feel they have to improve going forward. Editors have to present the season as a narrative better. I agree David's win was obvious, but to me only two of 5 winners in Australian survivor have been appropriately given a winners edit, Jericho and David. Makes it hard for me to justify the other winners.

Did anyone else think Cirie’s Micronesia edit (or Panama edit for that matter) could have looked winner-y? Or was it just that she was so likable and good at the game that I read into it both times? Lol
I would say her winners edit in Micronesia is the “decoy” edit. Honestly in Panama I feel like no one but terry really had a strong edit.
Parvati definitely had the winner edit in Micronesia. They had no reason to show Parvati at exile during Erik’s boot episode since it was so irrelevant to what was happening but they still showed it. In Cirie’s other seasons, it was always more of the journey or decoy edit.
Parvati got credit for Cirie's moves (like Ozzy), so it was clear Parvati had the winner edits.
i believe cirie had the most confessionals in micronesia. I agree, i thought she was the one who was going to win micronesia.
In Micronesia maybe, but in Panama not. In Panama she has the journey edit. The journey edit is basically someone that main goal isn't to win, is more about overcoming the obstacles or somethung like that. Think of Elaine on IotI, Michele last Season, Christian DvG and even more old school, Stephen on Tocantins
I always heard people talk about the “winners edit” now I understand it
I like your comment, I dont like your profile pic lmao
It's so interesting because the only time I was watching Survivor as it aired and felt like the winner was super obvious was Adam's season! The narrative was just so focused on him, and there was so much discussion about him making his mother proud. He had the complete tear-jerking story so often seen on American Idol and stuff, and the entire story was focused on him, especially with the whole Adam vs. Jay thing. And then when they bonded over their moms, even as direct rivals, it really sealed the deal for me. And I was super happy about it in the end, because it felt like he drove a lot of the game, and it was really rewarding for his family for him to win. I was so surprised to hear you say you were confused by his edit, I thought you were going to use it as a prime example!
So I loved this last season, Winners at War, BUT I was really annoyed that they didn't show who voted for whom in the credits like they normally do!
Did anyone else find that frustrating?
They’d rather show the person being voted out going to extinction every episode..smh
You can see it on survivor wiki

this is my question:
does the intro order affect who will be the winner? here is my data 😌

2nd in the intro: Tony 28, Tony 40
3rd in the intro: Nick 37
4th in the intro: Earl 14, Ben 35
5th in the intro: Jud "Fabio" 21
6th in the intro: Jenna 6
7th in the intro: Sandra 7, Todd 15, J.T. 18, Kim 24,
8th in the intro: Tina 2, Amber 8, Bob 17, Tyson 27
9th in the intro: Mike 30
10th in the intro: Chris 9, Natalie 19
11th in the intro: Brian 5, Danni 11, Jeremy 31, Michele 32
12th in the intro: Vecepia 4, Aras 12, Yul 13, Sophie 23
13th in the intro: Richard 1, Cochran 26
14th in the intro: Ethan 3, Wendell 36
15th in the intro: Tom 10, Natalie 29, Sarah 34
16th in the intro : Sandra 20, Denise 25
17th in the intro:
18th in the intro: Chris 38
19th in the intro: Parvati 16
20th in the intro:
-there are 2 spots that a winner has never been in on the intro order. (spot 17 and spot 20)
-the most common winner intro spot is a tie between spots 7, 8, 11, 12.
-Chris Underwood is the only winner to have the last spot on the intro order.
-Boston Rob 22 is the first winner to appear in the 1st spot of the intro, followed by Adam 33, 11 seasons later.
-The longest gap between a winner spot was spot number 14. first time it was feature with a winner was with Ethan 3, the second time was Wendell 36. However, the longest time for a spot to be unused (meaning there hasn't been a winner in that spot besides one) is Jenna 6 in spot 6, followed by Parvati 16 in spot 19.
-Spots 11 and 12 are the only spots to have back to back winners featured. Jeremey 31 and Michele 32 in spot 11. Aras 12 and Yul 13 in spot 12.
-Island of the Idols was the only season to date to not have an official intro by CBS.
my side notes:
-I noticed in the earlier seasons there was a small trend for the winner to be placed near the season they were in (example, Jenna 6, Sandra 7, Amber 8 were all on the same spot as their seasons number), however there lost a lot of correlation between the seasons as they progressed. -In the newer seasons there is less of a pattern. (which I guess not having a pattern is almost a pattern. Like, expect the unexpected)
-There are 28 winners in spots 7-16, so if your winner pick is in there, probability wise, it is more likely they are the winner over being in the other spots.
THANKS SO MUCH!! if you read all of these facts! this was low-key an excuse to watch all the intros again, but it was really interesting to see where each winner was/if there were any patterns.
How long did this take lmao
@@ThankMrGoose lol honestly not as long as you'd think
@@brianbortz The later seasons don't have an longer intro. It has been cut short, so how do you know about where these particular winners are? It's basically seasons 27 through 40 that either have a short one or none.
Loved this! Even if this isn’t done purposefully, the editors know who won and it could’ve been a subconscious choice. Or it could’ve started as a coincidence and now is intentional?Overall, really interesting.
Man I must say, u r very observant
While I knew the results before I watched the season, a winner's quote that stood out to me in Micronesia is when Parvati said something like, "I just don't want to be the flirty girl, but also make good strategic decisions as well". Big time winner's edit right there.
You know, I was aware that a complaint people had about Devens was his over the top edit in EoE, but I was never sure why he got such an edit. When you mentioned him, it finally struck. He's in a weird sort of limbo where he simultaneously edited to win and not to win at the same time. He needed to be the one who was going to win if he makes it to the end more than anyone else. Why? Because he doesn't. Devens needs to be Goliath so Chris can be David and slay him. That's why Devens has the spotlight.
Yep, I think so too. Devens was the final obstacle for the eventual winner.
@@Peridiam thsts also something I think you forgot to mention! To not make it predictable, almost always there is sn obstacle or s "better player" or something that the winner has to overcome.
Last season a lot of people were on the Sophie train because "there was no reason flr her to be edited like that if she wasn't the winner" to the point where they practically call her the queen by the time the merge came. And that's why everyone was shocked to see she being blindsided. However, that was because they wanted Sophie to be the enemie of Tony, the obstacle he had to overcome.
Also they couldn't give Gavin the winners edit he deserved. It's kind of laughable looking back how dominant Gavin was in that season while being portrayed as nothing more than a background character. He's literally leading the majority alliance for the entire post merge once Ron gets booted, but the whole thing becomes about Devins
@@evankraabel5415If his game becomes dominant once Ron leaves, that's not exactly a lot. That leaves really 1 vote before I'd argue his game fell apart (when Chris came back) but even if you disagree about that, that's only 3 votes for his game to shine b/c of F4 fire-making
@@HolyAlondite oh I didn't remember when Ron left. I think we could tell somewhat easily that Gavin was a leading voice starting around the merge when he initially clashed with Ron (he was a lead antagonist to Ron's "make it to the family visit" agreement, wasn't he?). Of course devens was much, much more of a threat than Gavin was, but thats a big part of the skill in survivor. Rick devens shouldn't have gotten himself into a F4 immunity challenge for a million bucks to begin with.
Chris kept saying he wanted to play the “perfect game.” He said it in at least two confessionals on the edge. As soon as he said it the second time, I knew he won

You can see a little bit of a winners edit, they show a couple of her subtle moves but they for sure get overshadowed by russ
I think that just goes to show how little she did and how bitter the jury was.
They were setting up Russell for HvV
@@alecgalbraith5604 minus the fact that someone who got "burned by a bitter jury" still deserves to lose cause that was a flaw in their social game, but sorry if your allergic to facts.
I think it would have made a lot more sense for them to try to capture how much the other players hated Russell. If we had confessionals where people were talking about how they thought he was a legitimately bad person and could never forgive him, it would become clearer that Natalie was banking on them being filled with white hot rage for Russell and that there was a glaring flaw in his gameplay that Natalie was exploiting.
Once more for the people in the back!
Natalie White holds the current record for Surviving the most tribal councils in a single season without ever having the immunity necklace or an idol.
She is quite possibly the greatest social player in the history of the game.
So true. She was incredibly strategic as well. They decided not to show a lot of it for some reason because they wanted to use all their time focusing on Russell which is ridiculous.
EXACTLY!!! She only got any votes once, and that was either the merge vote or right after. And not only was she playing an amazing social game for herself, she also effectively played Russell's for him, as she dragged him to the end. Yeah he was playing hard and finding idols, but she was the one that found the cracks that kept the foa foa 4 safe for so long, and her moves were made through him so he took the heat for them, while she made him think they were his ideas alone.
Natalie's confession in Samoa was made purely for winners edit after the game, look at her clothes in the confessional and in the early episodes.

On one hand I miss when I didn’t know about the edit and I thought everyone left in the game had some chance to win, but on the other hand I am fascinated with the winners edit and it’s a fun game to play along with the actual game each season
I'm both aware of it but also don't try to think about it too much. I think there's a happy balance between the two sides that I've become comfortable with.
Peridiam Thats what I try to maintain as well :)
I love that Chris won Edge of Extinction because it proves that you should never give up. You can get back up after you have fallen down.
In Gabon, I was mislead to think Crystal and Ken were going to the end. Seeing Bob and Suzie in the finale was as but if a shock, especially considering their edit. Maybe a rewatch is needed.
Yes I just rewatched that one, it is SO much better on a rewatch in my opinion. Bob def had a winners edit that wasn't as obvious and Crystal and Kenny were portrayed too villainously to really be contenders. I do remember the first time watching I was shook too when Bob and Susie were in the F3 and I really thought Susie was about to win when Jeff was reading the votes.
I think we're overthinking into it a bit much. here's is my intake on it: I do believe there's a winner's edit but only for strong likely producer-favorite winners who you would anticipate them dominating the FTC and the final votes like Rob, Mike , Ben , Cochran, Kim etc
but I also believe Survivor producers thrive on breaking your heart with some of the unlikely winners just to push the edge further and keep you on your toes to make this into " the show to sit and watch" like sports when you don't get what you want always but you get a great story on the road always . that's why we get more of the decoy winner edit cause its more fun to watch them lose than win. like Ozzy or Aubrey or Malcolm or Kelly Wentworth or even Russel.
Did Aubry have the decoy winner edit then? I would love to see a video of all the decoy winners on Survivor!
Michele said yesterday that she hated her edit without personality in Kaoh Rong.
Her winner edit was edgic 101, but they did a terrible job hidding her antics and funny personalty.
Sad
What personality? What antics? The lame edit was completely justified for someone who won by doing nothing and getting votes from the bitter jury.
@@JackBaker-kp1rk 2020 and you are still crying about Aubry's lost? That's to much hate in your heart, Adrian. I'm sorry for you :(. Aubry had a poor jury manegement and a bad social play. I'll pray for you and I hope this hate and this bitterness towards Michele's winning someday come to an end
They water down a lot of winners that way. Apparently in South Pacific Sophie was a standoffish spoiled princess and imagine if she got an edit that was more true to reality. She could've been such a fun character. But I guess after the fan 'outrage' of Jenna Morasca winning Amazon, the editors didn't want another villain winning again :/
Adrian You have an unnecessary amount of bitterness, you need to stop spreading your negativity. Calling a random woman you’ve never met trash just because you wanna whine about edits and who deserved to win a tv show five years ago? Is that not a little pathetic

Ill be honest. I don't like looking for the winner's edit.
I prefer watching and studying how each person plays. Seeing how they socialize and strategize. Seeing how their downfall takes place and looking for the error and seeing how it could have been avoided.
Thats whats fun about Survivor to me
Yeah my brain switches off when I watch survivor because otherwise I'll find out who wins and it will spoil it because it's less enjoyable when you already know who's going to win because its made so obvious like Kim

i honestly think a good video would be “top 40 tribals of survivor” and you can only include one tribal per season
Oh HECK yeah! I’d love to see this. 👍
For some reason, it just occurred to me that the producers look at the final votes to see the winner before they announce the winner in the live finale.
As a fan i have predicted the wins and made money off of Nick, Adam, and shockingly enough Chris.
Finding the winners edit is one of my favorite things to do. The very first season of Survivor was actually aired twice on network TV. I ended up watching it again and picked up all of the subtleties but more importantly I realized that this is a TV show. They are trying to tell a story. That story, at high level must tell the viewer how they were able to win the show. Watch the seasons where Brian, Chris and Vee won, twice. You learn more from editing when there is a winner that is not a fan favorite. Remember it's now how you feel about the winner but how the producers want you to feel. @Peridiam you should do a video about this very topic.
Winchele Fitzmillionaire 😍
I want to see you do just 1 video on Whodunnit. The entire series can be found for free on RUclips (it's only 1 season) talk about the edit structured on that show with both the winner and the killer.
This show has been my guilty pleasure for YEARS!
@@chelseylance if only it had more seasons. Supposedly a season 2 was originally planned but apparently never happened.
I think this is one of the most interesting differences between big brother and survivor. Big Brother often tried to make a “winners edit” but they can only go on what they know at the current points of the season. We also see the production suddenly flip narratives if something on the live feeds blows up on the current production favorites. Survivor can benefit from the whole story being already known and anything that doesn’t support production’s narrative can just be ignored.
That's my personal biggest appeal to watching Big Brother live because the winner's edit doesn't really exist. The fact that we can only predict on perceived ability and not visibility makes for pretty compelling television, even if the casting is lacking compared to Survivor.
I'm relatively new to Survivor but as a long-time fan of RuPaul's Drag Race (which is also edited months after filming with a winner in mind), "reading the edit" is nothing new to me. Excited to experience more and more new Survivor seasons to see how good I am.
Oh man, go back and watch AS3 after you watch Samoa, the parallels are amazing (and so is fan reaction)
What are your thoughts on the “compelling losing finalist” edit (i.e. the person built up alongside the winner to put the final vote somewhat in doubt). Examples include Natalie and Michele in WAW, Brad Culpepper in Game Changers, Aubry in Koah Rong, Spencer in Cambodia, etc.
I think when possible they like to try to make the winner seem like a surprise. For example, in Micronesia they emphasized heavily at the F6 tribal that Amanda was the most likely to win, only to have her end up losing to Parvati.
@@jeffgudorf492 The very first time I watched Micronesia, when it first aired, I knew that Amanda wasn't winning. I knew it would either be Parvati or Cirie.
Shan's got a pretty good winner's edit in this season's premier
Great video... Of all the seasons I've watched, seeing the winners edit has been interesting to me. Some winners get all positive content, while many others get a mix. It's always good to see how the story ends for each season. And most (if not all) of us can agree we didn't see Underwood's win coming lol.
Poor Natalie, the editors really did her dirty. I feel like they should've highlighted Russel's lack of social game and how he played too hard to win the jury over.
They did tho. They did emphasize that Russell was rubbing the people the wrong way numerous times. The problem is that people are stupid and think that being a bully is ok
Unpopular Opinion: I just want to say I'm still incredibly disappointed in the editing for season 40. It was engaging until the Sophie boot when Tony had EIGHTEEN confessionals (next highest was 6). I spent the rest of the season hoping they weren't making it THAT obvious but failed to be surprised by anything else and am even more confused that the rest of the fandom didn't seem to care :/
I agree 100%! I think Tony was definitely a deserving winner but it just got so monotonous
The fact that it happened in the same episode he was nailed with an insanely broken twist helped, and seeing him escape it (and assuming he was probably doomed that episode) likely outweighed the annoyance of his overbalanced edit (And to be fair, unlike most examples, he really was doing the most that episode)
Yeah the episode was a Tony coronation, but he actually did a LOT to earn it in that particular episode so that helped
(And I can indeed confirm a lot of people cared when the episode aired, I traversed Reddit around that episode)
I agree I was like, "no way this guy wins if he's being played so much"
the edit switched to Michele in the end tho
I agree. They also set the season up as Michelle and Natalie being underdogs, so eventually the underdog would win. Then Michelle got 0 votes and Natalie only got a few from her close friends.
Here is how I knee chris was gonna win. He has 2 confessionals saying the same thing "I wanted to play a prefect game" after the second time I knew he was gonna win back in and take the prize
Regarding Michele losing that challenge, you skipped over the part where they got back to camp and when Michele goes off on her own, the rest of the tribe openly talks about how badly she did and is likely the next to be voted out. When Michele leaves it's to go into the water and Debbie (?) jokingly says "Don't go kill yourself" (since Michele was so upset about her challenge performance) and the rest of the tribe (especially Cydney) laughs at this.
It's not a good sign for a winner's edit where the rest of your tribe is openly mocking you and laughing at the joke of you killing yourself.
In my early days of watching Survivor I could usually figure out the winner via a gut feeling by the time the merge happened, with Natalie, Jeremy, Adam, and Sarah. And when watching back old seasons even without spoilers this became sort of prominent with the likes of Yul, Earl, Todd, even Natalie White. These days after two distinctly opposite winners edits in Chris and Tommy I'm much less sure that I can peg future winners. During WAW even though Tony probably had the strongest edit come merge time, I was very worried he was given a Rick Devens fallen hero edit.
Personally I'm really glad Chris Underwood was given the most shocking come from behind victory edit in Survivor history because now I'm really unsure of where the editor's minds are going, and the fact that I'm still guessing who it is without 100% certainty makes for a more entertaining experience.
I think the merge episode has a clear winner edit. It's the vote that decides the direction of the season and we always see the perception of the winner. In WaW merge episode we see Tony explaining and using the Lions vs Yenas strategy.
Peridiam is Michelle’s biggest fan.
no I am, we stan Michelle
Michelle’s biggest fan is Phil from the Survivor Specialists
Tina was the dog that never barked in the premiere. The editors totally kept her hidden.
I could see Natalie coming, everyone thought Russel would win simply because he played a good game but he forgot OutPlay also involves social and Natalie smacked him over the head with a frying pan on that one.
I remember when Sophie Clark won. During her family visit her relative said Sophie is still is here. She said when she left" I am gonna win". In that moment I was oh shit she won and suddenly everything point it to me for that Sophie was going to win. If I were there during that moment I would have voted Sophie off in the next tribal council. That for me as a player that is a red flag
but you realize, that that's only a winner's quote because the editors put it in. Probably all players have winner quotes on camera, but they get never edited in are never aired, because they are not the winner and dont have a winner's edit. Coach could have said the exact same thing and we would never know it, because it wasn't shown.
Recognizing the winner edit means, looking out for whose quotes and confessionals get put in the show and why.
I'd love this kind of analysis when it comes to other reality show. I know the "winner edit" is a thing but I've never been able to spot it in any show, the only thing I've ever been able to spot is the "these girls aren't top 13" on America's Next Top Model edit.
i always notice these patterns but along the way i forgot the details shown in first or second episode. like. Every season
HE SAW MY COMMENT I ASKED FOR THIS! THANKS PERIDIAM!
My Vaporeon bretheren! (See the first half of my name) well done
3:37 Nice, a Gervase X reference! I wonder if there is enough material to do videos on all the weird spoilers/hoaxes from over the years?
Michelle in Kaoh Rong edit with Nick undermining her, I knew in that moment she will win the season
I'm pretty new to Survivor, but I think that something new that the editors are trying to do is giving us a premerge narrator. Look at Adam in WAW, and Kellee in IOI. Their confessional counts in the premerge are crazy, but they go soon after the merge hits.
"Winners Edit" is genuinely something I wish I can un-know or un-think when I watch the show.
And one more thing rarely mentioned is BGM, especially with winner edit. Confessionals can be twisted based on "story development" but BGMs are DESIGNED to "match a certain narrative". All winners' CP confessionals would receive customized "heroic theme music" and "nostalgic/mellow/homesick/personal journey theme music", for example. Even if winners have an OTTN episode, music-wise it will tune down the crazy train. BGM for decoy winners edit are usually significantly less affectionate.
It's drastically affecting the narrative as well. Like in this video the Russell/Natalie combo, Russell's BGM is pretty ominous (that sharp sound when he called her stupid). While Natalie's BGM is obviously more encouraging and hopeful, plus that similar sharp note when she said "when it comes down to me or HIM", which synchronized at "HIM", doubling down on a more negative vibe on Russell.
As someone who also watches Drag Race, those audio clues being so apparent and obvious in the storytelling has made me pick up on those moments so much more in other shows like Survivor. There was one in this recent series that through me completely off, I'm blanking on who it was, but it was a soft moment but they played an ominous cue? And I was like what?!?!? hold up what's going on what are they trying to tell us
In the early seasons the producers didn't look at the final vote until it was read live, Probst has mentioned this in several interviews. He was actually a little upset initially when Richard won season 1, since he was the 'bad guy' of the season. That said, those seasons had to be eddited without knowing who the winner was, so the "winner's edit" might look different or more focused on the winner when the editors know who won as opposed to who made it to the final vote.
Just because he says something doesn't make it true. They film it after all, and they always show the camera. And votes just so happen to be read in an order to make the most suspense and drama. Maybe they didn't tell Probst what they votes were, but they knew, and that's how they craft these stories.
@@MariaThePotterNut I don't remember them filming the votes in the first few seasons. Remember they were still trying to figure things out and were not nearly as polished as they are now. Also, there were no idols or advantages or rolls of dice or anything like that.
Great video! Other things I like to look for in the edit, which are not consistent across every season but I think are important, are if the player has commented on the overall theme of the season of the season (David vs. Goliath, Millennials v. Genx, etc.), an also if they give some sort of personal insight on a twist or something the players aren't fully clear of yet, but that the audience does, to single them out as a narrator and perceptive person. Good example is Sophie saying early in SoPa that Brandon was hiding something before he revealed he was a Hantz.
It’s fun to compare this to Big Brother (without live feeds) to see weekly “winner” edits and what I wouldn’t give for Survivor live feeds
I'd actually like it if winners eddit wasn't a thing so that you could actually root for people who have bad edits, like Denise this season,i love Denise and it sucks that i don't root for he knowing she has no shot at the end because of her edit.
More often they are more of a "made it to the end" or key player edit. (see Natalie in WaW or RickD in EoE)
Future topic: the fascination of peanut butter in Survivor, whether it’d be from Winners at War to Jenna’s and Heidi’s iconic moment from the Amazon.
No bigger winning quote than Richard Hatch
Day 1 in Borneo
You can't just say that and not include the quote
@@Whitephoenix98 Its in the video
I forgot Tommy existed and ever played survivor o_O
For a video can you do a ranking of every "39 Days, 18 People, 1 Survivor" intro that Jeff gives. That would be super fun.
I just got finished watching The Meranian Review’s winner edit video
Hey Peridiam! Big fan! I have an important question for you about survivor!!!.......what is your favourite fast food and soda?
please answer
Bro this is so well put together bro keep going you are so big brained actually
This was good. I will be paying more attention to the edits now.
3:35 - nice throwback, I like it
Great job making these videos!
12 seconds later lol I laughed so hard at the end of this video! 😆
i just wanna say i love love love ur channel!! ur an icon and yh im eating spaghetti and vibing to ur vids rn yesss
When I see A Perdiam Video click fast as hell
i would have loved to see mike in WAW. he was a loveable person i think.
I was watching Australian survivor over again and realised that in the very first episode the winner says ‘I’ll be first out or I’ll win, I truly believe that’
The biggest clue for me is when someone gets a lot of screen time in a premerge episode that person doesn't go to tribal council. Also one of my favorite pieces of foreshadowing was in the third(?) episode of Samoa where Natalie says she wanted to go to the end with Russell because no one would vote for him to win.
Michele is the best example of this
Yep! I had a feeling she could be the winner when I saw that.
I love how we pick on different things. Adam had a winner's edit to me considering how much love towards him there was in his edit and confessionals.
if you look at the cast photos the winner is either standing right beside the first boot or they are on the opposite side of the group photo to the first boot.
Now I will never watch the premiere episode the same way again
Wow u rewatch the first episode of season 41 after this video and it seems so likely Danny is gonna win!
Before watching this vid I notice that the winner often has a scene that isn't about the game at all, like Tony & the ladder (or Tony & the shark), Mike & the scorpion, etc. They really stand out in the newer game-heavy seasons
The shades emoji in description is so cute haha
Thank you Peridiam,
These last 30 seconds had me crack up 😂 loved it
Love your videos. Keep the good work up💪🏼💪🏼
When hatch says “I’ve got the $1 million check written already I’m the winner”
