@@IgneousP couldn't agree more
Let's say we are extremely late game and have stat points abundant for everything, would you recommend using the full scale set?
No
This has been the most difficult aspect to choose as a mage, this video couldn’t be more perfectly timed
100%!!! Last night I was searching like crazy and feeling a bit lost on my mage at level 150. This is so helpful!! 😁
They need to make better looking helmets for late game mages!!! A queen hat, no thanks.
@@trilodroid3628 i agree, personally i use seluvis hat cuz i like the mask and it matches really well with carian knight.
@@greenebronze at lol 150, you should be doing better than the carian
I'm like a Gandalf lord of the rings cross over and idk how to fiz that cuz rannis set is just so cleannnnnnnnnnn
Recently learned that poise only really matters above 56. At 56 poise, you can tank through most “light” weapons in the game. Anything lower than that and you might as well have no poise at all (as far as melee is concerned at least, idk how poise works vs spells/incantations)
Although this is more for Elden Bling, I just finished farming the Night Maiden Set and with the Navy Hood and Queen's Bracers it looks quite pretty and flowy for a light armor mage look. Plus minor Mind bonus.
That's the one from Nutella city? Yeah, I love the set, hate that it has a mask on.
Renalla's Crown does have a trade-off though: it looks absolutely ridiculous. Late game with my own build, I actually ended up using the Scaled Armor too. Although the Crucible Armor is really good too. Below 50 poise doesn't seem to do anything though, so 35 shouldn't be doing more than 1. A single sword swipe, or rat will always interrupt you below 50. 35 might stop a normal arrow from interrupting you, but how often does that really matter? You may as well raise your endurance to get better armor since you're likely to run out of stamina faster than FP anyway and you'll want enough left in the bank at least to dodge after you're done with your initial barrage.
But looking absolutely ridiculous is my goal.
I think it looks fire
It does look really stupid. I love that int buff, but fuck. At what cost?
I'd have to disagree. It takes some getting used to, sure, but after some time using the hat it really started to grow on me and it's low-key a vibe
Scaled armour is goated because it actually lets me see my characters whole face.
One thing worth mentioning is that the Carian knight shield is fantastic for a mage, and it's worth having for your offhand when you need more defense. It has 100% physical block and with barricade ash of war it reaches 100% boost as well (blocking requires no stamina). I suggest prioritizing intelligence to 60 (for comet azure) and vitality to 40 (soft cap), then bring your FP to a break point where your main spell is efficient (for example rock sling costs 18 FP so you don't want to wind up casting until you have 17 fp and are unable to cast another). After that, boost endurance until you can wear the heaviest armor you want and still have a medium roll.
Side note(s):
> it's worth investing a few points into faith and carrying a seal for times you want to cure scarlet rot or poison. Marika's Soreseal gives you +5 int and faith, consider using it. There are also lightning and magic defense incantations you may want to consider.
> Having a dagger as a second MH weapon and putting bloodhound ash of war on it is incredibly helpful with minimal weight added. You will have incredible mobility when needed.
Comet azur is a situational spell, and most bosses are not going to stand in one place to get nuked. I’m on new game plus 3, and I rarely use comet azur.
Thank you for the dagger info.
I've been looking into lightweight weapon cause right now i'm using some random +2 sword but dagger might be better option.
Why not hookclaws? It's light/ does bloodloss buildup and can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables
The silver mirror shield is better in my opinion
I use the Carian knight set with the navy hood. Partly for the +1 Mind but most because I think they look good together and I'm willing to dodge or block to make up for the lower Def. I've also become kinda obsessed with the whole Carian vibe. Using magic swords with the blue and silver aesthetic just hits so right.
I used the exact same set all the way to Morgott. Once I reached mountaintops, I switched to blaidds pants, renllas braces, and lusats robe and the imp head.
Love your videos.
It is hard to find good content about being a mage. Everyone seems to be doing the sword thing.
So thank you.
The Cleanrot set is an armor set that's attainable earlier in the game and is essentially at the same scale of defensive stats/unit weight of the Scaled set... and it looks cool.
Good video! I do want to point out, tho, that the primevarl sorcerer armors also have some of the best non-physical damage negations, with Lusat's being the higheset magical damage negation. Again, situational, but they're worth keeping around when you're not really worried about physical damge (especially if your stats allow you to weild a good shield).
Hope you guys enjoy this video! For other questions related to "what is the best x for a mage?" watch my mage build videos!
Thanks a lot bro! I'm doing almost everything you've suggested on part 2, exept that I'm not equiping the metorite staff, but the Night and Flames sword and the staff you recommended, just to be safe around the corners. Will you make videos about other classes too? Like Samurai Bleed and all?
@@thiagoneves8786 don’t get night and flame sword. got a major nerf a couple hours ago.
@@camdenb_ really, what was the nerf?
@@thiagoneves8786 the abilities do less damage now. Haven't tested it yet myself to see how much less though.
I’m using as a mage the veteran set with the mimic helm. I just can’t manage to take off this helm. It has all around good sts looks cool and has item discovery and faith boosts so I can cast some anti poison and rot using a dragon talisman I got which looks cool too. Artifact wise I’m using one that boosts greatly sorcery, Elden tree +2, one that vastly negates physical dmg and looks like a shield, and the radagon art that boosts intelligence mind etc. I’m at medium load since I dedicated some points to endurance for better casting and rolling. I’ve got lots of cool armors but so far none gives the same status as the veterans set.
Thank you so much for taking the time to clarify all this. Love your content bro!
Subbed simply because your videos have helped me a ton as a new souls player. Thank you so much! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you. I've googled this so many times and the info is all over the place. One of the first time someone put some effort into it.
Oh man!!! Your recommendations have made my gameplay so much better!! I just put on the endgame gear combo and am LOVING IT!! Thank you so much for all the work you put into these!! 😊🙏🏻
Thanks for all your guides. So much more helpful than a lot of the other Elden Ring channels here on RUclips.
rogier set actually boost all magic ashes of war. With carian grandeur I went from 1240 to 1407. So actually very nice set (but no poise and low damage absorption)
this was exactly all the info i needed, super handy. thanks a ton!
I'm wearing the full scaled set, with the carian regal scepter at +10 and the moonveil +9. The moonveil is awesome for close quarters quick oneshots of most average mobs, and then I switch it out back to the meteorite staff for boss fights when I'm going to be supporting a spirit ash tank with casting only. With this combo and Nizar's guidance I'm having a fairly easy time of things. Did a one-try kill of Morgott which made me happy.
Yes! Thank you I really needed this
There are a lot of ER videos out there but of the many I've seen, I like yours best. Thanks for much for making this super fun game even better!
New subscriber here thanks for all the mage Elden Ring guides. I love the videos! 🔥🔮🕯
Just what I was looking for. Great video!
Azur's head piece actually boosts a few different spells. The wiki says it includes both comet, and glintstone comet shard. Maybe that wasn't the case when this video came out, just wanted to leave this comment for anyone doing a whole azur cosplay build like me, there's more to his spells than just comet azur.
Idk if anyones looked into it but the fire monk armor isn’t bad for mid game too. It’s a bit heavy at 11.8 (1.4 higher than carina knight) but the defensive, resistance, poise, and discovery stats are better
Thanks will look into it!
By that same token, if you want a different color palate you could farm out the blackflame monk set. It's a minor adjustment of the stats from the fire monk set, and in white instead of red. And they work surprisingly well aesthetically for mage armor.
For me at level 197, I've been using Lusat's helmet since I use stars of ruin a lot, his chest piece as well for the looks, then Lionel's greaves and boots for the heavy armor bonus.
Wow exactly what I was looking for thanks!
Thanks for the tips homie
You failed to mention the abysmal range and projectile speed of Glintstone Icecrag compared to Great Glintstone Shard. At that kind of range, most big bosses can easily reach you with their attacks.
I checked and the alberich set actually works on all sorceries it states one type but I saw a small boost to all spells
After a certain level Rennala's headpiece becomes obsolete so you want something that provides a buff. The best armour for mage in late game is a combination of pieces that provide different buffs, or are just the best in your inventory.
-The Mage gloves that amplify glinstone spells
-The snow witch hat that boosts frost magic (includes ashes of war, glinstine ice spell, rannis dark moon)
-My favourite trousers are the Astrologer for the rounded stats, but you can put on those grieves that genenerate HP when you are damaged
-Blaids chestpiece is amazing and well rounded, but you can swap those around depending on the situation
-Meteorite staff in one hand for the bonus to Gravity spells (astel meteorite, rock sling)
-Carian Regal Scepter for moon sorcerys bonus (rannis dark moon)
-A sword/dagger preferrably with Rot/Frostbite/Bleed/a combo (currently using the Cold Uchigatana +19 which does bleed and frostbite buildup), aiming for moonveil or Astel weapons
-A 100% block shield in case, I have Thops Barrier equiped and you can block enemy sorceries like glinstone spells
-This way almost all your sorceries have bonuses (besides what you do with your flask and amulets)
Combine these with Terra Magica + Comet Azur + no FP cost Flask and you melt bosses anyway!
What do you mean by the mage gloves? Pls respond
what gloves are those?
@@mostlyharmless7070 i think he/she means the battlemage gloves.
@@mostlyharmless7070 nvm they mean the spellblade
I really like Blaid's armor set with Ranni's snow witch hat. Aesthetically, it looks good and the hats good for frostbite builds
I used that exact set until I got the veteran's set and I agree its a really cool aesthetic with some solid defense as well
Sameee
YES! Definitely the Blaid robes over any others for looks. And as others mentioned has some solid stats aswell.
Id love to see what this looks like, screencap??
I defeated Malenia using Blaidd set as mage
Replace the academy icon for the great jar arsenal and you can pretty much equip whatever you want. I tried the champions armor with renala’s crown and its still the best combination thus far
Great videos mate keep them coming 👍👍👍
ive been following your mage videos and man i have to say, i love your accent so much
but i barely have any ideia where it comes from
Didn’t know about the ice set but I like the silent running chest in the consecrated snow area so I’m not being jumped all the time and I can choose my battles.
Actually the fire monk and black monk sets really boosts nice fashion and good all rounder defense especially physical. I switched to that from carian knight in the mid game, it weighs roughly the same as carian knight has better defense in physical and fire but weaker in magic but who cares, we usually roll to avoid magic damage rather than block. Also a lot of enemies are more inclined to use fire/physical than magic itself.
Been wearing the Black Monk set for awhile now
I farmed a complete set of fire monk and loving it!
Why would a mage build care about physical damage? Just stand far and spam magic
I love you Nizar GG. Thanks for great guides on playing a mage. My first time playing FS game and I fucking love it.
Wish the azure armor had more redeeming factors against the lusat armor because it looks cooler, but I'm using blaidds armor for my frost spell blade build.
Wouldn't Ranni Witch set be best for frost?
I use the crucible knight set with any helmet or get that gives a boost to intelligence. The crucible set is lighter and defends against physical attacks better than the set he suggested
Does it really what about the beast champion set?
Love these videos my man!
Very comprehensive and well made, great guide!
I like to have fairly high equip load and stamina so I use the twin sage helm and for the chest I choose the Radahn armor just because of how good it is. High damage negation. High poise. And for my pants and hands I'm still working on upgrading endurance for more equip load so that I can have 50 poise which seems to be the best. I'll probably again use Radahn's armor
another good head piece is the preceptor's big hat, +3 mind for the cost of stamina. You can find the preceptors set in selvius's rise at the end of ranni's questline
i like rogier set , and the bonus is nice glintstone provides alot of poke
I like Blaidds head and everything else is tree crucible knight set. Dual wielding Bastards stars with the Carian Regal Scepter. Bastards stars is so cool and very fun, not sure if it's actually good but imo it's the most creative and best looking weapon in the game
The "Beast Champion" set you get from Bernthal was my late game choice. For general play, I was using his arms/legs with Black Knife chest and Rennala's crown. For bosses, I'd put on the chest armor too. I did buff endurance though. Used Crucible and Scaled up to that point.
I use Radahns legs and hands with the sanguine noble head and chest. It just looks awesome and puts me in the mind of assassins creed
Very interesting, thank you
Hey Nizar love your videos really enjoying the comment you’re putting out.
Can you do amour sets video for Samuria please. If possible thank you
I've been playing more of a spellblade style mage and found the Exile Armor with the legs and arms of the Carian set to be a good mix. I need the higher physical damage block most of the time. Then I throw on whatever hat I need at the time. To get through the academy though I wore that baby blue mage coat the sword mages drop rarely for that extra magic protection.
I wear Ranni's hat and skirt with Rogier's gloves and the deathbed companion dress, lol I walk around bear foot in a silk dress, I have a talisman that boosts my attack power with a lower equipment load so gotta keep it light.
My build is Scaled set with Twin Sage helm and Radagon Talisman. As for weapons meteorite staff with glintstone pebble and rock sling with carrion slicer.
The spellblade set is fantastic for the Dark Moon Greatsword.
Black flame monk armor with fire prelates gloves and legs is what my mage is using decent set with poise and looks great imo also works with the normal fire monk set 👍🏻
Same here
Just wondering what your thoughts are on the early game imp-looking helmet if you've come across it. Ive been using it and it gives +2 int
I have been wearing it for many hours, found it fairly early, just found new head gear that has two faces on it, adds +6 intelligence
@@paulwilson1555 it’s + 6
The imp (cat) helmet is great for a start, albeit a bit heavy.
I’ve seen Albritches set with the staff of guilty looks pretty good
I don't know why but I fell in love with being a straight up Carian Knight. The whole set in it's entirety. Spells included.
Same. I’m just finishing the game with the Carian Knight set and spells.
I would like to add that the Spellblade Set increases the Darkmoon Greatsword's and Moonveil's projectile attacks so wouldn't exactly call it "not good" the increase isn't huge, tho. ~100-200 dmg
It increases the damage from Dark Moon Greatsword's Ashes of War? Are you certain?
@@yosharian Yep, go give it a test
@@Shadeirou Yeah I tested it, the armor isn't decent enough to justify it though IMO
Oh shidddd
@@yosharian he lied to you about spellblade set. It actually boosts all magic AND frost damage ash of wars not just glinstone so it’s actually pretty busted for battle mage builds…
Mind blown about the rogier armour fact! I like to go for 100% fashion. Rogiers hat + errant sorcerers robes = traveling wizard.
So there is one thing to say about the Alberich set. Every piece buffs the Thorn Sorceries, and, using Briars of Punishment while wearing the Alberich set, +10 Carian Royal Staff, & Staff of the Guilty in your off-hand makes the Briars spell pretty op! Also, just because they have a minimum requirement of 24 faith to cast, if you cast them with your Carian Royal Staff, they scale off Int, not faith. Just like how you use Meteorite Staff to buff Rock Sling.
Sure it doesn't buff your resistances as much as your final recommendation, but it still offers more defence than most mage sets! Totally worth it if you use the Briars spell.
Love briars of punishment for my blood mage. Just have to be careful about spamming when you're about to get aoed by an enemy with half your health remaining. I ran Albrecht's set for a while but it still wasn't classy enough for my char. Lord of blood robe is perfect style wise.
Lol I thought I would watch this to see what would be best for me to wear. I am currently wearing the scaled set with Ranni’s hat so I guess I’m doing it right!
HaHa that's exactly my armor. Carian top and scale boots and gloves. I'm using the double faced head but my int goes to 82 with it. With the soft cap at 80, I was looking for a better helmet. This video came at the right time.
Another banger. I've honestly been walking around without any armor haha. But sometimes I'll put some armor on.
Feels like I'm a bit OP and wanted to give myself a challenge. That Kamehameha (Comet Azur) wiped out the twin Gargoyles. In fact, I was able to kill the first one before the other one got onto the field. I was level 125-130, but made sure to get INT to 80 around 110.
Isn't 110 int too high? As mentioned in many videos, 80 is softcapped.
@@zerocool85 they mean they got their int to 80 when they were level 110
I decided to got for medium armor and used the Black Knife scale set for a while and then Malenia's once I got it.
I'm glad someone finally made a video about this because all of the mage sets are actually trash in the game. I actually wear radahns or veterans set with the helm swapping out as needed based on which spells I am using. This gives you a ton of defensive stats and like 74 poise which is amazing for some of the harder bosses. It does take a bunch of points into endurance and I use the talisman that gives stamina and equipment load as well but man you hit like a truck and can take a hit and still make some mistakes and not get wrecked which makes the game more enjoyable for me.
Bro i do the same shit, i use radahns armor but until i upgrade my endurance i’m using a tear in my physick that reduces equip load. Plus the poise boosting talisman. I have 84 poise and sometimes find myself getting hit in the middle of casting and my character brushes it off lmao
@@ifyta1294 lol yep and not to mention the defensive stats it gives so when you do get hit it barely takes any health and you can survive hits that would one shot you in mage gear.
Same here, I've been using Radahn's set with the Silver Tear Mask and loving it. I leveled my endurance to 25 so don't even need the talisman to stay in the medium load with it.
@@lexus134 yep thats an awesome set as well. I used that set till I got the veterans set which is only slightly better.
I rock that set with blood hound step that way I don’t have to roll and can keep the slot and physic open for other stuff
Lekker bezig👌🏻
Fun fact: Both Azure and Lusat increase the FP cost on ALL spells for 15%, and only boost 1 spells damage, i would say its not worth it over all outside of style
the helm does all this, all other pieces do nothing special
They don't boost only one spell
Azure boosts all sorceries that has comet in it except invisible comet and lusat all star named sorceries except primal rain of stars
@@zanlik301 ^what he said.
Azur boosts Comet Azur, Comet and Comet Glinstone Shard.
Lusat boosts Stars of Ruin, Glinstone Stars and Glinstone Shower.
This video is damn near perfect for mages trying to figure it out.
Azur and Lusats helmet don’t just increase damage on one spell each they affect all spells with comet or star in just not the invisible one
another alternative if u have a high endurance is the veteren from roundtable. it is heavy tho so need higher endurance
Great video
Want to look like a mage and look damned good while having decent protection? The Lord of Blood robe is the best looking robe set in the game. Red and black and a dark rich black not dirty or muddled black like Albrecht's set. Looks very regal and my Black mage necromancer blood mage is rocking that with the royal remains helm for the undead look.
The set is just clean and I've only seen two other pvp players wearing it. Makes you stand out for sure. Dual into faith for the fire and black flame spells and the flies/bloodboon spells plus briars of punishment, +10 Carian Regal Scepter in right and Erdtree seal in the left. I tried many other armors but stylistically for this character I can't do any better. Add Albrecht's bracers for the red crystals which match well. You can use any legs you want but I go for black trousers.
Bro said “my black mage necromancer blood mage”
@@thestormkage yer goddam right 👍
I really like the Imp hat (Cat) as it adds INT and has much better defense stats. The only downside is the weight.
I just use Roderica s set with blue hood because it looks pretty
Godrick Knight Set has been carrying me for some time now. With the queens helm, staff and moonblade i am still at med load. idk where i picked it up from honestly. I used the gloves from carrion knight set when i picked it up so it was before that.
I finally just started playin Elden ring and this helps a lot. Playing as a sorcerer early game can be really boring as far as weapons and armor choices. Thanks for the tip on that carion knight armor spot at the graveyard! I also reallllly like the way ranni's set looks. I might look into starting that questline asap! Great info and pacing. Appreciate you.
Radahns chest plate, queens bracers, tree sentinel greaves, tree sentinel bracers, and queens helm is my go to. Aesthetically pleasing if you like gold armor looks
Can't wait for more videos
Black Knife Set with the Snow Witch Hat for my frosty spell blade. Benefit from the hat and the cloak.
Subbed for the Raid.
i found the malformed dragon set better than the scaled armour set as it has the same weight but higher defensive stats, some points such as fire or magic were a few decimals of so not a big change but a much higher physical resistance, i believe you get it by killing the draconic tree sentinel outside malikeths arena in farum azula
I've been wearing Black Knife Assassin Set with Snow Witch Hat as I'm a Ice mage mainly and the drip is FIRE. It reminds me of the badass stealth (batman) set in Skyrim lol. You don't make any noise and have a bad ass translucent cape too. Stealth Battle Ice Mage 😎
i prefer the scaled knight hands and legs with the snow witch helm and the corpse/rotten duelist chest this gives the highest poise vs def whilst still staying med weight and boosting frost magic
I've been wearing Rennala's set since I killed het. But now that I have Adula's blade, I'll probably switch to Ranni's. Thanks for this vid!
Lvl 188 here. Using the bull goat set as a mage and swap helmets, mostly using Azurs. 😊
THANK YOU!!!
Surprised no one is here to talk about how busted ranni's dark moon/snow witch hat is - try it with adula's moonblade
very helpfull video ,but which u really recomend at late game?
Been rocking the Scaled Armor set along with Snow Witch Helm for the defense + fashion, didn’t know about Snow hat’s special buff you mention lol soo looks like I made a decent selection all-around. I also wear the capacity increase talisman and put some spare points into endurance because your defense is worth the slot and the runes. No one wants to be a glass cannon
After my one of my buds mentioned the sage set made me look like a grand wizard making all of us laugh, I've rocked it since
I been rocking random shit but I need a good set, perfect timing. I been rocking that medorite staff since I found It, shits crazy and just dumping levels into int but what else ? I got high int and mind.
Do you have a video about the best Astrologer Summons, I tried to search your vids. I need something tanky, that keeps aggro from me, so I can cast my spells
I have been trying to figure out what combos i can find to get to 51 poise with the least weight and still look cool. i really wanted to use the stealth set but it does not mix well and has such low poise.
One thing is that only heads have the buffs on spells/stats, so you can choose your best headpiece and go for another set. of course if you're not into fashion souls
I put some points in endurance and wear Radahn's armor set with Ranni's hat. No regrets.
I’m running the Twinsage Helmet with the Blackfire Monk set
Hey folks. I'm wondering if anyone can help me confirm something I may have just stumbled upon.
It's related to getting better (and more) drops from enemies.
I normally play as a mage-type, so I haven't bothered with pumping arcane or using strike weapons for the most part (aside from the astro staff).
While testing out the whip , I noticed a big uptick in the amount of drops from armored soldiers at Gatefront (like, tons. Almost every soldier dropped something -- that's never happened before).
I didn't have any arcane boosts active, any items to boost item drop rates active, no talismans -- nothing. I simply changed to a damage type that armored soldiers are known to be weak against.
I'm hoping someone else can test this as well to see if there is any truth to this.
So far, I did about 6-7 runs and noticed it's pretty consistent buttttt people in the reddit are pretty much downvoting me into oblivion without *actually* trying it.
If anyone reading this can check it out to confirm whether it's a thing for them as well -- that would help.
If you could leave some commentary here as well -- even better!
Bump

Bruh there is a farming spot that I can tell you about that you can make about 17 k every 20 seconds and nearly 50 k every minute in runes. I don't know why you are bothering that much into droprate.. if you get it up to 30 that's fine.

On my 150 Frost/Moon mage with the arsenal, bullgoat erdtree's favor talismans along with 30- 35 endurance I'm running the veteran's armor set but, with the snow witch hat, the Dark Moon Greatsword, Regal Scepter, meteor staff and one of the lighter kite shields. Not only can I still medium roll but, I've got 91 poise and really solid damage resistance since the veteran's set is so damn good. I really had to min max my character though, just went with the lowest possible dex and strength to use dark moon and pumped everything else into Vigor, Mind, Endurance and Int. I think right now it's something like 43 vigor, 35 mind, 30-35 endurance (I can't remember right now) and 80 Int.
