      Robert Lee Thanks, I’m glad there’s somebody out there who actually realises how difficult some of these restorations
      are to do and that these videos are just a guide. It’s up to the individual on how they wish to repair these models but I am
      just sharing how I do. It’s really only a bit of common sense and patience needed 🙂

    Can you do it the video on drilling and what size drill bits
    And the actual Richerd Hughes where you get them from and sizes

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  2 года назад +1

      Who’s Richard Hughes? Don’t get what you mean, the rear rivet posts on the 270 are not very wide as you must’ve learnt, so I used a 1.5 mm drill bit then you can then file the shafts of your rivets down to fit. The front one you can use a 2mm size , just use your own discretion with the rivet sizes. You can get rivets from either eBay, Dinkyclub online or Model supplies link in the description but you’ll find when doing some models you’ll have to tailor the rivets to custom fit them.👍

    Looks like the ejecto seat failed before the guy had a chance to leave the car (explains the makeshift blood in the interior).

    As I explained in your other Bond Aston Martin video, that is the one that I got brand new and played with in the 70's and ruined. Mine was in worse shape than what you started with after many hours of play. Both front bumper ends were broken off, the man in the ejector seat shot off and vanished forever, the tires fell off, and the roof fell off. I would love to have this model again. Are you selling this one?

    Hi Bob. I've just started restoring some of these that I bought years ago. One problem I have is with holding the car together while the glue for the rivets sets (The bullet proof shield spring pushes the base away from the body). Any prolonged pressure puts marks in the paint as it seems to stay soft for weeks. What paint do you use? I'm just using automotive aerosol metallic and clearcoat at the moment. Thanks again for the videos!

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  5 лет назад

      Peter Warner , one tip is to not file the diameter of the rivet down too much that it’s a loose fit and the other is that you need to leave the model in a nice room temperature for at least 4 weeks to let the paint shrink back and harden, then you shouldn’t get any problems.
      I just use ordinary car spray paint 👍

    Hi Bob, I constantly refer to you're epic restorations.
    I'm just doing my first 261 and had to install aftermarket suspension but find the rear left side is sitting lower.
    Do you encounter this in 261/270 and if so how do you remedy this.
    Best regards, Tommy in Dublin.

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  3 года назад

      That’s the trouble with the repro suspensions Tommy‘ they seem to make the part from a softer plastic than the original one! The only solution that I’ve found is to warm up the slack bit very, very carefully with a soldering iron without touching it with it of course, and slightly overbend the problem part. When it cools it should feel a bit harder plastic than before, but be very careful and patient with it mate 👍

      Thanks Bob, I'll try the method you have said, it's very softer plastic they use than the original.

      Cheers Bob and thanks,
      Tommy.

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  3 года назад

      You might be able to repair the original one with epoxy resin, if it’s not too awkward bud, and there’s another way that I’ve now tried... using a fine piece of piano wire to join the 2 pieces of plastic together then use super glue, if you watch the car transporter video it’s the same process I used to repair the rear metal strut 😉👍

      Hi, in reply to your question there's no great skills involved in putting new rivets in ' once the rivet posts are drilled out on the model ( obviously this is done before repainting ) it's just simply a tiny drop of superglue into the post then the rivet dropped in, job done !

    Hi there, do you have any recommendations on how to remove old permanent marker ink of model cars without damaging the paint work underneath?

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Kevin, well all I can suggest is to use ordinary auto T-Cut but very lightly just until you find it’s gradually disappearing.
      I should think it would be a very tedious job though, 99% of the time I strip my models back to bare metal but I can’t see
      why it wouldn’t work 🤔

    • @tipstricksss1453
      @tipstricksss1453 6 лет назад

      Hi Bob, thanks for the reply... I found that toothpaste mixed with a bit of bicarbonate of soda and a little oil and a scrub with an old toothbrush did the trick I manged to clean the car right up, then finished it off with a bit of polish.
      I didn't really want to strip it down as the car seemed like it was in good condition under all that marker ink.
      I also had a car where somebody had painted it in tippex and in that situation I had to strip that down to bare metal.

    25:00 "They don't make 'em like this anymore." I;m afraid that's true. Just ordered the Corgi replica JB gold Aston Martin db5 - - hasn't arrived yet but I know it won't be as good as the original I had in 1965. Even in the advertisements, the gold paint job in the replica one makes the metal look plastic somehow - - though it's a good move to package it in a replica box. I can see you using the new replicas for parts for originals, Bob, ha.
