My father-in-law Phil asked me to repair his Corgi 267 Batmobile that he has had since he was a child. While the body was in remarkably good nick aside from a slightly bent rear wing, the same couldn't be said for the rest. The front chain cutter would not retract, it had a smashed canopy meaning it lacked its beacon and part of the antennae, the missiles were missing though one was lodged deep within the barrel, it had a broken aerial, the tyres disintegrated at the slightest touch, and what else...? Oh yes, most importantly Robin was missing!
Of course everyone knows the Batmobile, particularly this one which is so iconic from the 1966 TV series. In this video, I not only guide you through the steps in restoring one of these models but also give a background to the TV show and the real Batmobile itself. Did you know, the original Batmobile was built in just three weeks by George Barris and was based on a modified one-off prototype Lincoln Futura?
Corgi produced almost 5 million of these Batmobiles from October 1966, just nine months after the TV show began to air, and 1983. They were hugely popular and they are hugely valuable now in any condition as collectors snap them up.

Father in law Phil here - I didn't think it was in bad shape for its near 60 years but having watched the video I have revised my opinion😀 What a great job Jason has done and after his slight refurb(😂) the rather superb new bat mobile now has pride of place in a cabinet in my study! Holy cow, that was a job worthy of the dynamic duo - well done Jason and thanks!
Cheers Phil, glad you like it!
Excellent job, the semi gloss black is perfect.
very good restoration
now the batmobile looks good
Beautifully done. Even Corgi Bob would be impressed. The beacon on the original is a separate fitted red one. The repro part has it moulded in blue.
Yeah I did wonder that afterwards panicking that I’d missed something. At least it’s a clear differentiation between genuine and restored models, especially at the value some of these Batmobiles sell for!
Batastic restoration Jason, Love all the nods to the series in this video Adam West would be proud!
This is the best one I have seen .thank you.
That’s very kind, thank you
Amazing Job Jason, lucky Farther in Law.
Very good Batmobile really like what you did to it my friend have a good weekend and God bless
Used to watch on TV at home after school. I had the Batmobile for my Birthday. Wish id kept it and the box. I own three ready to restore. Your YT vid is excellent
Holy improvements! I've drawn Batman professionally for DC Comics Licensing, so I truly loved this one, Jason!
❤
Holly rebuild and looks awesome 👍
Nicely done Jason, a very helpful video
Crown issue. Jewelry work. 👏😎👍🎈
Nice one Jason. Great nod to cheesy tv series. Reckon this early corgi version is the best one of all of the corgi ones. Had the gift set with batboat many years back. Ah, happy memories.
Keep er lit ya boy ye
Fantastic work Jason! you brought this back into excellent shape. I wondered about the semi gloss black but it looks good and has a scale appearance to it. Thanks for sharing this.
Wonderful job. Excellent 👍
Really nice job! I have a 267, i just need to get all the parts for it. Thank you for sharing another great video.
Bravo. Looks great!
Boom Bang & Smashing!
"Gosh Batman !" Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
super retso mate lovely xx
Fantastic restoration Jason. Loved the TV show style special effects tgat you included. The original was probably the greatest TV car ever made when it comes to unique design and special features.
Nice restoration and the background stories. Old corgi casting are really detailed
Holy Risk Taking! You're a brave superhero to take on that job for your father-in-law. But I'm sure he will love the results. Very well-done video, including the appropriate sound effects, music, and comic-strip word-bubbles.
Nice work! It just seems to be screaming for the red stripes. Of course it's excellent for a pure restoration. 😁
Jason PLEASE do a Corgi Junior batmobile! 🙌
I haven’t got one in stock at the moment but I’m certainly on the lookout for one!
That's a very nice restoration. The result looks wonderful.
always wondered which drill to use.....cheers !!
"Just gonna need to replace the battery..."
'What's a tery?'
Wow awesome restoration looks amazing well done 👍.
they surely had one creative team going on back when... dunno which model is more complicated, the JB Aston Martin, or this one. and the genius behind the functions!
aside that, semi-gloss works well with the theme, wheels look good, I'd say great work! :D
the humour of the series never worked for me. I tried one episode but it didn't work out for me. the batmobile though, is relevant to my collection, as it is a Lincoln. :) (too bad they used the Futura show car for it, though, but I understand back then it was nothign but a showcar, barely practicable, but interesting designs. so why not make use of it?)
The Matt one was the 1st edition. Then came the gloss one.
Looks batass!
\o/ Woohoo! Great! 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Great stuff …you missed the red beacon out of the cage though
Thanks! Yeah that was all a bit odd. The cage sits perfectly on part of the canopy but there’s no place for a beacon - not that I could find one reproduced either? Very strange…
Fantastic job Jason! Has the batmobile been returned to Phil? I'm looking forward to seeing it in a newly acquired collectors cabinet in his batcave! Cheers. P
Yes it has though I’m yet to see it in its showcase!
Great video !!! I’m also started to restore my dads Batmobile, and I have a question about the cast metal divider. Did you didn’t fasten the cast metal divider ?
Good to hear you’re working on one too! I left a large burr on the rivets that hold that metal divider in place so when I pushed it back together it clicked secure. However, if yours is loose, I’d suggest using a drop of super glue to secure it instead
Corgi. Restoration. 267 Batmobile. A How. To. Guide
Im interested in doing a little custom batmobile i would like a batmobile with wide wheels and in the future maybe aan original batmo bile with red wheels Are the original hubs hard to get off and how would i do it with out breaking it
They are fairly easy to remove by twisting off if I remember rightly. Well worth a go though
Nice restored, it's a shame 😕 Corgi like other model manufacturers had to put toe hooks 🪝on cars that shouldn't have had them , the batmobile with a toe hook Really 😳.
A what hook? 😅
The Tow hitch is for the Batboat’s trailer.🦇

Could you restore mine Batman mobile
Sure send me an email. My email address is in the video description
I would have tried to rescue the original stickers bevore removing the colour .🤔🤔🤔🤔
Should of felt tipped the edges of the door badges with black marker would of give better appearance
