- Re-released in 1968 was the 'new' James Bond Aston Martin DB5 No. 270 painted this time in metallic silver to match the film version and incorporating not only the Q goodies from the previous model, but also rotating number plates and rear tyre cutters. The packaging was also updated. As before, the plinth contained the 'Secret Instructions'. The bumpers and grill were separate castings, and the fuel filler caps and rear lights were now revised. At the time of its launch in February 1968, the C270 was on sale for 11 pence. In 1971 the price was 68 pence and in August 1975 the price of the car rose to £1.15. My copy was given to me by a friend. He was probably preparing it for restoration, as the Aston had been reamed and had some spare parts bought to fill in the gaps. I have seen this because as a child I had this toy. I remember asking myself what was the point of interchangeable license plates and that the ejection mechanism didn't last very long. I was a very young child and had never seen a James Bond movie. Thanks for the memory.

This one particular AM model became so viral that every diecast manufacturer had one in their portfolios in various scales, even in my collection I have 17 of them in various scales by different manufacturers.

Corgi zawsze miało wbudowaną wspaniałą inżynierię, a DB5 jest tego doskonałym przykładem.
Wydaje mi się, że czytałem, że Corgi nie miało pozwolenia na skopiowanie samochodu filmowego w pierwszej wersji Astona Martina. To wyjaśniałoby złoty lakier.

Corgis always had terrific engineering built in and the DB5 is an excellent example of that.
I think I read that Corgi didn't have clearance to copy the movie car on the first version of the Aston Martin. That would explain the gold paintwork.
(But is not confirmed)
As for your work, I can confirm that it's absolutely great 🤩👍🏼
Everything is working perfectly again and the "Bond DB5" is now a gem again.

Corgis hatten immer eine grandiose Technik eingebaut und der DB5 ist ein exzellentes Beispiel dafür.
Ich glaube gelesen zu haben, daß Corgi bei der ersten Version des Aston Martin noch keine Freigabe hatte, das Filmauto zu kopieren. Das würde die goldene Lackierung erklären.
(Ist aber nicht bestätigt)
Was deine Arbeit betrifft, kann ich bestätigen, daß es großartig ist 🤩👍🏼
Alles funktioniert wieder perfekt und der "Bond DB5" ist nun wieder ein Schmuckstück.

I tried restoring one of these a while back but could not get the roof to work properly on reassembly. Trying to get all the gadgets aligned at the same time to close it up is a nightmare. I ended up abandoning it 😐 I guess i'll go back to it again at some point and try again. Excellent work as usual though Paul. Bravo sir.

That's an amazing resto I've restored 2 207 Aston Martins and yes those rivet posts are very thin I drilled mine with a hand drill and used screws from an old audio cassette the model you've restored is the later whizzwheel version which didn't have the revolving numberplates and rear tyreslashhers

In 1975, my family had a garage sale and I got rid of a bunch of toys. I bought one of these with the money I made. Mine must have been a later version. I had the spinning license plate on the front and the back. I also had the red plastic spinners on the back wheels. I had a lot of fun with that.

Когда то в ссср был съезд народных депутатов (24 съезд по моему)и для них ,специально закупили разные дефицитные товары в том числе и игрушки, модели фирм matchbox и corgi. Стоили они по 10 рублей. А этот Aston,20 рублей !! Мама рассказывала мне о чудо машинке из которой вылетал человечек. Правда она говорила что он опускался на парашюте! Может ей показалось? )Как я только не упрашивал ее купить мне эту машинку но тщетно. Хотя она все же купила мне модель от matchbox .Гоночный Porsche (1:87). он у меня до сих пор.) спасибо вам за вашу работу. вспомнил детство.))
Мне в детстве рассказывли что корги продавали в детском мире на кутузовском. Сколько я туда не заезжал - ничего не было.
Конечно 10 руб это много.
У меня таких денег не было.
Но говорят что все скупали спекулянты и у них они были уже дороже.

У меня было в детстве пару друзей - у них были. Как сейчас понимаю : родители были непростые.
У одного парня папа дипломат и я тогда думал, что ему из-за границы привезли. Были именно corgi.
У другого тоже непростые родители.
Но я так думаю что продажи были.
Помню в связи с приездом президента Франции в годах семидесятых в детском мире появились машинки norev - очередь стояла на весь магазин - 1:43 по 10 р за штуку. 1:87 по 3 р.
Смели всё вроде за пару дней.

The body of this db5 is the 1977 whizzwheels variation, it has the flared wheel arches and the rear revolving numberplate delete.

This is the third version the second one had spoked wheels with red retractable tyre slasher on the rear wheels and rear revolving number plate
To fit in the whizzwheels corgi added a ridge to the rims

@@PaulRestorerThe Gold one didn’t have the revolving number plates and the red plastic bits coming out of the wheels which the SILVER one did……As a kid I remember the GOLD one cost 9 and 11….and the SILVER one cost 12 shillings and sixpence….Amazing to watch this …I’m watching the vid…into the first 7 minutes…but how are you going to re create the revolving number plates ?? …looking forward to THIS.❤
JUST INCREDIBLE ! …what a TINY functional mechanism that is housing the revolving number plates…and as a 6 yr old I REMEMBER the LU on the number plates with the black letters on the white background. And you even paint in James Bond’s black TIE on the tiny figurine ! ….lol…Wow…maximum respect here chum … As the lyrics of that Bond soundtrack song ‘nobody does it better’ goes -‘How’d you learn to do the things you do’ ?? 😮

Very nice surgery 😊 question : I’ve got a solido 50’s parisian bus with dark green metal body paint to remove. My VMS Clean State paint remover dont do at all the job with this heavy duty green paint .. Do you know why ? Do your method with v33 will work ?

you need to do a test also check caustic soda which can help if chemical paint strippers don't work
