Hey there, Dj CUTMAN here! This is fairly different from our usual video game remixes and EDM bangers we upload, so I wanted to give a little background. I first met Shane Mesa when he entered my remix contest in 2012, and later we met at a show while I was touring. We had spoken about the music for the Earthbound sequel Mother 4, and I agreed to help him in any way I could.
Now, five years after we met, Shane has completed 64 songs for this project and deemed it complete. We actually combined a few tracks to get this album to fit the 60 track maximum allowed by music stores (look for the tracks with the ~ in the title.) I put everything I had into facilitating this album, which including remastering all the songs, sequencing the album, and creating new album art. Like all GameChops releases, the cover songs on Mother 4 Soundtraaaack!! are licensed. This collection is also safe save for creators to use in their content! While the Mother 4 fan-game is still in development, Shane and I agreed that getting this collection of songs out was a great way to give him some closure for such a giant project. Plus the music is gosh darn amazing, a wealth of SNES JRPG music like I have never heard before! I've been in touch with the developers of the fan-game and we are all on the same page and everyone is happy these songs are finally released. Both of Shane's collaborators, Nelward (who contributed to track 4) and Dani Person are receiving royalties for their work. The original Earthbound composers are also being compensated through our cover song licensing. The best way to support this release is to stream on Spotify or download the album from your favorite store!

Been loosely following this game for a good while, is this soundtrack 100% out of being in the game? I still don't know. Kinda sad, if so.

Kthnx2 The game developers had said that this soundtrack would not be in the game, but in Shane's discord chat room, (shane's mesa) he told us that if we wanted the songs in the game, we should get a hold of the developers and tell them we want it in the game. it definitely seems like Shane doesn't want all of this great work to go to waste.
I really want this soundtrack in the game, aside from the EB songs obviously. I can understand from the developer's points though, since most of the songs use the EB/M3 Soundfont. Although, so did undertale, and that game got legally released, with a price attached.
Hi! The soundtrack seems amazing! I've followed Mother 4 for a long time, and it's cool to see that such great songs came out of it. I'm curious though about using this content in my own projects. Of course, I did see this is Creative Commons with Attribution, but I did notice there is an option to purchase the album... Would you and the artists prefer if any interested users make a purchase of the album before featuring any songs in there own works? It would be great if I could support this as much as I could, especially if I do try out any songs in my school game dev projects! Thanks! :)

I found It pretty sad at first, but then I didn't mind It anymore. I hope to see how the rebranded game looks like in the future.
I still dont like it since having it identify as connected to Mother gave it that spiritual sort of connection to the series. The rebalranding was a bittersweet piece of news to me even to this day. I still cant wait for the game to release
Good news to those unaware, the Mother 4 team got the rights to use this music in the game! So worry not about whether or not your ears will be graced with this sweet, melodious music whenever the game comes out.

I know Shane Mesa will likely never read this message but wow. This playlist is a constant repeat for me. The mix of old and new is fantastic and now with the Givasunner take down it reminds me to value the content we still have available.

It's so damn cool. That track could have gone in a lot of styles, but the pure, pulsating ambiantic dread was definitely not what I expected. Really sets the mood for... Well, guess we'll have to find out, huh.
If I'm reading the soundtrack right, this is someone from the "Nursery" where Giygas met (Maria? Your grandma from Mother), where you went tracking down the aliens who were behind the organized crime & driving their political ambitions.
I really hope I can find out how right or wrong I am in the next year or so.

... Wow. Just, wow. The "Battle against" tracks all gave me varying degrees of goosebumps and spine shivers.

David Stone yes you can! But you have to use a RUclips mp3 converter and you have to edit the song out. Then set it as a alarm

i know right, in some ways i prefer this, rather than getting a game that has been hyped up for over a decade, only for it to be subpar or just decent. atleast this way we get a great soundtrack to a game that never existed
Unrelated to the whole development controversy, these tracks are so delightful to listen to especially as someone who missed the original Earthbound boat
But, hey. It's now back in the game without any issues whatsoever!
I never played it on SNES but I bought it for the Wii U virtual console and it quickly became one of my favorite games, along side Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Splatoon

What's the development controversy
Which one? That they delayed the game numerous times including starting it over from scratch? The insane development hell? The fact that they randomly decided to "rebrand" the game away from "Mother 4" and flush the project down the toilet for no reason other than they suddenly got paranoid? That it cancelled several times? That a bunch of the team split up multiple times over vehement "creative differences"? That they set up a "developers blog" with actual updates, then stopped updates outright for a long time, then brought it back and apologized saying they'd be more "transparent" in the future and then flat out left again with no explanation to anyone? That the soundtrack creator and the staff also split up at one point (which apparently this has been "fixed" now)? Or the fact that this game has less chance of seeing the actual light of day in it's "copyright gutted" state, than we have of seeing a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit anytime in the next 2 decades?

The fact that the composer were able to capture the feel of the mother music absolutely mesmerizes me. I was thinking in my head, "This was made by a fan. THIS WAS MADE BY A FRICKIN FAN AND THEY CAPTURE THE FEEL OF THE GAME SO FUCKING PERFECTLY WHAT THE ACTUAL SHIT!?"
It has the groovy-ness (sorry I had to) that some songs from mother had, and then it perfectly captures the absolute bizarre feel that other songs had. Props to the composer. I don't know how he did it.
Absolutely. Hearing the pure contrast between a stunningly harmonic and melodic track as "Distant High Life" and the monstrous ambiantic eeriness that is "Battle Against a Far Superior Foe" is so good.
It doesnt sounds like mother music to me, except for the songs that nelward worked on.
While I'm inclined to agree nelward captures more of that weird-vibe EB has, I still think Shane did a great job. Just for the record, precisely what tracks did Nelward work on?

I see they kept to the tradition of having some of the Mother songs sound like popular songs. Made it to Battle Against a Clueless Foe and definitely heard part of Celebration in there lol

so the game is in development hell and there's no update since 2020 (from what i recall) so that means this game is never coming to life or its dead
I have to say, it's weird thinking back to when I first heard about Mother 4. It wasn't long after I beat Earthbound for the first time, I must have been looking up if there were any sequels or something because somehow I ended up on the Mother 4 website. I can't say I wasn't excited to hear about a group of people coming together to create a game based on another game they and I loved, but I was definitely naive. It hadn't yet sunk in how long these types of projects take, not to mention all of the countless pitfalls that could happen along the way. I checked back in week after week looking for updates with usually no results. It wasn't until I investigated the Soundcloud section on the page more thoroughly that I could see that there was progress being made, even if it was slow. When I spent time actually listening to the soundtrack, it became sort of an auditory representation that things were moving along in this project. Songs like "Boom Town Lounge" and "Distant High Life" became ones that I would seek out regularly if I just wanted something to listen to. I have to say, if it weren't for all of the amazing songs that were made for Mother 4, I probably would have eventually lost interest in the entire project. Thanks to Shane Mesa for putting in all this hard work to create this beautiful soundtrack!

As someone who has followed the project for about 10 years, I can say this is a piece of gold in tribute to mother; much of the love I have for earthbound and the series comes from the music itself. And this soundtrack lets you live your own adventure in your imagination, thank you shane mesa.

the fact that there was no game at all, only animations is extremely sad, but at least got these bangers
Each time I hear this soundtrack I feel like I'm getting a bit closer to heaven it's almost how unreal this soundtrack is, this soundtrack is literally the best thing my ears will ever hear, and I want the game to be the best thing that my eyes ever see, even if this game takes a million years I still have this video to watch over and over again

I really hope that the rumors that these won't be used are mistaken. This whole album is so distinctly Earthbound Love that it will simply be a crime to miss out on it.

"Most recently we've decided to part ways with our lead composer and public rep Shane Mesa. Though he contributed a great deal over the years, we all agreed this was necessary. The soundtrack, sold through GameChops, is currently available on various platforms. Despite the name and our shared history, the album isn't ours. It belongs to Shane and GameChops, as does all revenue. The team wasn't a part of their negotiations, but that's completely fine by us! We wish them the best luck with the great work they're doing. Any questions about it should head their way - I hope that clears up any confusion!"

Seiishin mine had to be “Wisdom of the world” ( 2:08:50 ). It brought back all the feelings I had as a kid. I loved the first mother game the most especially from it’s wonky-ness compared to the others

I love how O Namae Wa has the same circus-y feel as the Your Name Please tracks did. Absolutely genius work how it can both sound original, while also very faithful to the style it's emulating. I can't wait for Winter 2014

It still baffles me that Mother 4 ended up having to rebrand as Oddity because, well, I actually don’t think the developers were at risk of being shut down by Nintendo. The truth is that Mother is also owned by Shigesato Itoi, which means that he has the ability to influence how its intellectual property is protected. And given that Itoi basically has no problem with Mother fan games, Nintendo can’t take them down. I guess to be fair to the devs, this wasn’t widely known knowledge back in 2017, so no one really knew what could happen.

Amazed at the sheer amount of work put into this!! Every single track somehow fits so well into the Mother soundscape, nods to previous songs and all. I don't mind the game not being out yet, I could still listen to this all day!

Oddity is going to be in 197X. The name of that song could mean something to do with another species or Giygas.
Some speculation was that the whole game was just a world created in Porky's mind or something after the world had been destroyed because of the Modern Mind or somethin idk

I forever wish to know the context behind "wisdom of the world" ending abruptly like that. Guess I'll just never get to figure that out in my entire life.
One of the developers revealed it a few years ago. The song was meant to be played by Meryl on a piano in her room early in the morning. However, it wakes up her perants and they shout at her to stop, which is why it ends abruptly.

I had doubts about a fan-made Mother game when I first saw it, but after hearing this I did some research, and the degree of professionalism and care is quite evident. Fantastic work by Shane Mesa and the team working on the game. Keep up the great work, can't wait for the final product. 👍
