Played with a chocolate wilson official I was amazed on how broken in it was. I will say I like the Spalding better when chocolate broken in. Only like wilson better out the box.
@@Love2Hoop LMAO mine turned dark brown, dark chocolate color too! it feels nice! it's officially been 1 year since I've bought it!, do you all have issues with the ball holdin in air though? @@maodamadman3867 I know that if I don’t use it for a week I need to inflate it just a little bit. That’s normal with most basketballs I’ve found but with these genuine leather ones you run into the issue of needing to inflate more often. But with that you can over inflate a little and still get way with it.
@@DPDP21 chocolate is when the ball gets dirty and broken in fully. It takes time and makes the ball look like trash, but you will get the most performance out of it. NBA doesn’t like to use chocolate balls because it looks bad on tv.
crazy how new that old one still looks. I've had mine about a year and it's so much darker. Too worn in really, I need a new one now. Gets slick unless my hands are sweaty, then the grip is perfect
I just got 1 this week. One session in so far and I like it a lot. Been using evolutions and more recently Evo balls for the last several years. Played w the solution back in college. I love them all and their uniqueness lol
Each one is very unique in it's own right. Most people are like "a ball is a ball, it doesn't matter" and that's usually those who aren't basketball nerds like us lol
It took me months to get that raw abrasive feel off my Wilson basketball that I got in early summer 2022. The cushion (compared to the Spalding) sort of masks how rough the leather really is at first. Devin Booker had made some feedback about the inconsistency from ball to ball. I’d speculate Wilson perhaps wanted to find a way to give the basketballs a more consistent finish by narrowing that break in period. Really did wish Wilson upgraded the seams to a better rubber as someone else commented. My Wilson feels kinda heavy. It feels heavier than the Spalding to me. I’ve heard some people say the opposite. Maybe it’s the weight distribution. Some of the Spaldings I have tend to effortlessly float and sail off the release. The Wilson has been a tad bit more effortful to me. Feels like it hits the rim a bit harder
I personally think the Wilson nba is heavier than the Spalding but it’s not by a large amount. The Spalding shoots almost effortlessly which I loved but the feel of the Wilson is better for my style of play.
I got the wilson nba game ball for Christmas from the wifey and have been breaking it in over the holiday break with my son. It feels good def has a better bounce than the spalding game ball but i feel like the spalding shoots better just my 2 cents. I love both of them equally
I feel exactly the way you do. I like the bounce of the Wilson more and the feel of it. But there aren't too many basketballs I've had that shoot better than that NBA Spalding when it's broken in. There's gotta be some sort of magnet that attracts it to the rim.
so i been using leather conditioner on these balls and so far it's working. the ball get shiny and softer alot faster than just playing with it regularly. I applied the leather conditioner let it sit over night and the next day i used soft brush or shoe shining brush to buffing the ball, i repeat the process for a week. I think the key here is take time buffing it.
I saw your vid with the leather conditioner. The buffing is super important to ensure you get an even surface apparently. If you don’t work the conditioner in and truly treat the leather you’re speeding up the process but not getting the best feeling leather possible. I’m thinking about using the treatment on one of these and one of my older Spalding nba basketballs.
Do you ever apply anything to your ball for care?? Mines just getting a bit scuffed and was curious as to what you do to clean/care for your ball. Appreciate any feedback!
Great question and normally I don't, but one of my friends had a ball that was real beat up and dry. So I think I'll find a leather cleaner to start using on the basketball.
@@Love2Hoop Dope! Yeah I’m just so new to leather ball care, I just don’t want to mess it up. Do you clean your ball at all with a moist towel at all or is that a no go?
I myself and curious about that basketball, and which comparison makes the most sense. Obviously that one you mentioned does, but it may be closer to a Spalding feel based on how it looks in photos. What do you think about a NCAA Evo replica review?
Normally I would be waiting another 3-4 months to do an indoor/outdoor review because the weather here is still hella cold, but looking at that one the material looks pretty good.
Any ideas why the official ball is not bouncy as the other composite leather balls? It is the same for both Spalding and Wilson. Does it become better over time?
You kind of hinted towards the answer in your question. The officials are all genuine leather which doesn't have as much cushion as a composite leather. Think bouncing a tennis ball vs a baseball, where in this example an Evolution is a tennis ball. It gets better as the leather starts to get worked in, but it will never bounce quite like composite basketballs.
Hi question when you have the chance you should review the Nike Elite all-court indoor/outdoor personally love the basketball for outdoor use the grip is insane when dry though when wet it is super slippery and wiping the liquid off the basketball is a bit hard but overall the grip is insane super tacky even when it’s dusty in which it does pick up a lot but super tacky
You've got maybe another 3-4 months before I review another indoor/outdoor basketball because it's still too cold in Washington state to be outside playing basketball.
This is a tough comparison because it's so much easier to shoot with an Evolution than an official. What I will say is if you can't shoot really well, go Evolution but if you're confident in your shooting ability try any NBA official ball. It'll tell you if you can really shoot or not 😂
I purchased my ball in December and the code is "NEU", not sure if that is related to the manufacturing plant it came from or materials/treatment. I have no reference point from any other authentics so I can only hope you are onto something because I'm already sick of people calling mine fake and refusing to help break it in 😅

Does the newer Wilson have more weight to it this time compared to the old one? And did Wilson finally switch & use better quality rubber for the channels? The rubber channels on the Official NBA Ball wear off & chip soo bad on almost everyones' Basketballs I've seen. These are the only 2 issues I really noticed. It's too lightweight compared to the old Spalding & cheap rubber channels.
I wish I could tell you there’s a difference but sadly… nope 🙄 the ball is still the same weight, the rubber channels still there, but the newer basketballs feel more broken in when you first get them. That’s really it.
For $200 I hope Wilson already fixed the cracking on the rubber channels. I've seen a lot of negative reviews on their website regarding this issue. Even some NBA game used balls being sold show wear on the channels. Any thoughts?
They haven't changed it, and honestly I think it's more of a cost vs reward thing. If the cost to fix that increases the ball by another $25 then it's probably not worth it for the consumer. If they can get us to by a $200 ball with flaws, they're not gonna make it better. If they do, it won't be by much lol
Great question and HUGE difference. The Wilson official is a full genuine leather basketball, whereas the authentic indoor is a composite leather. The authentic indoor feels like a better version of the Forge indoor/outdoor, but the Wilson official is more like an evolution but with a waaaay different type of surface.
