  • Stanislas Wawrinka one-handed top spin backhand technique analysis
    Eastern backhand grip
    Backswing racquet vertical
    End of backswing :
    chin above the shoulder
    often close stance
    space between the legs for balance and stability
    knees bent
    big hips and shoulder turn
    back facing the net
    left elbow close to shoulder height
    Contact with the ball :
    leg push, hips and shoulders rotation
    body weight on the front leg
    straight hitting arm
    in front of the body
    stable wrist
    strings at hand level, coming up from low to high
    left hand stays behind
    Follow through :
    wrist remains stable
    angle forearm/racquet remains close to 90°
    hips and shoulders rotation controlled with arms aligned
    racquet high, vertical, pointing to the sky, sometimes pointing the back fence
    body is balanced

    Stan has my favorite 1-BH! this first example is quite an extreme stand and needs a lot of stability (good ankles and knees as well). quite hard for the average player I would say. do you think it is also "ok" to have your arms a bit farer away from your body while preparing and loading for the shot? my dominant arm is almost stretched straight
