At age 13 I switched my backhand from two to one-handed. The guy who taught me how to do, was a very skilled old player who had played multiple times with former professionals like Ilie Nastase. He then always told me "the swing comes from the hip". Even 25 years later, I still almost do the same stroke technique and everybody is telling how beautiful my backhand is. Thanks to Stefan K. to Vienna or Palm Springs. Haven't seen u for more than 15 years.

There's a chemistry Simon that you and your partner concocts in your videos that remedies the ailments of all tennis players to a healthy end result . Thank You Sir .
Guys, I recently started incorporating hip rotation into my backhand as well as my forehand. I think this detail is the most important element of the modern tennis stroke. I often warm up without a racket and just rotate my hips and let my upper body drag along after. This split second delay between hips and torso is key to the kinetic chain of power. I think you guys should develop drills that teach hip rotation as the starting point of the stroke after you’ve reached the ready position.

Top Tennis Training - Pro Tennis Lessons it would be good to wach lessons about precision and aiming on the one handed backhand. I still don get to control it like i would like. Thanks for all of your lessons. They are really great.
Very good. There is this principle of using the non hitting arm to stretch backward a lot but this can prevent a proper hip rotation and also create tension in the swing. Wawrinka is a good illustration of this as his non hitting arm remains quite loose and doesn’t stretch back at all.
What I would really like to see is a espn "Detail" similar to what Kobe did for basketball, really get into the set up thinking the pros use during a match.

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I'm coaching JV Boys tennis and haven't looked through your whole library of videos -- but my #1 item doubles positioning and movement strategy.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Yes, it would be great to have have strategies for dealing with nerves and / or anxiety during matches and tournaments. I'm not sure if that format would work for an online tutorial, but I thought that I would ask anyway. Keep up the good work and God bless you two.
Hey guys, One of the best 1HBH videos I’ve ever come across. Something that I struggle with is trying to keep my weight back (so that it can be transferred forward into the ball at contact) while also keeping my right shoulder down/staggering the shoulders as keeping your hitting shoulder down makes you want to lean forward naturally yet concurrently you need to keep your weight back. If this made any sense, do you have any tips for this? Thanks & keep up the great work
Try lifting your front foot off the ground when you are loading up, you don't need to overdo the shoulder drop either, it's a very slight motion that shouldn't throw off your balance. Wawrinka is a good example, he does it very slightly. By lifting the front foot, you'll be forced to load up and stay on the back foot until you're ready to transfer the weight using the heel to toe motion
LONG-TIME-LISTENER-FIRST-TIME-CALLER-LOVE-THE-SHOW... ...but there's ONE THING you both are NEGLECTING to fully describe, and for me I've discovered it's CRITICAL: AFTER THE RACQUET DROP THE FACE OF THE RACQUET IS ABSOLUTELY PARALLEL TO THE BACK FENCE AT THE START OF THE ROTATION !!! :-O NOT "almost-parallel" (except when they're aiming cross-court) - ABSOLUTELY PARALLEL - IF EVEN FOR A MOMENT !!! Compared to all the starting points you guys show in slow-motion while explaining, you end up leaving a full 45 degrees MISSING at the oh-so-critical START of the rotation !!! At first I thought this wasn't a big deal - I FOLLOWED your instruction and just brought-around-and-dropped, and no matter what ELSE I did, my swing felt MIS-TIMED - like all the POWER in my swing was happening AFTER contact... So I STOPPED listening to you guys and actually WATCHED video after video after video of EVERY player you guys call out as examples... ... and then I SAW IT: FEDERER, WAWRINKA, GASCHET, THIEM - THEY ALL DO IT - they ALL to-a-MAN rotate so that the racquet is in fact PARALLEL to the BACK FENCE as they start their forward rotation. AND SUDDENLY THE TIMING ALL FALLS INTO PLACE, and even for a 62-year-old USTA 4.5 player (me), there is MAD EFFORTLESS POWER and TOPSPIN in my 1HB - with MAXIMUM POWER from the SWING happening PRECISELY at the MOMENT OF CONTACT !!! But if you DROP your racquet and it's LESS THAN PARALLEL to the back fence: - TIMING CHANGES - your maximum power comes AFTER contact; - POWER CHANGES - CONTROL CHANGES - EVERYTHING about the swing feels... FORCED. YOU NEVER SEE THIS WITH FEDERER - HIS IS EFFORTLESS POWER, and you can trace it ALL back to THIS ONE THING - WHERE THE RACQUET STARTS! EVERYONE WHO TRIES THIS EXPERIMENT WILL HAVE THE SAME EPIPHANY I DID - EVERYTHING ELSE FALLS INTO PLACE :-) HOPE you guys ACCEPT MY challenge to EXPERIMENT with this, and then make a VIDEO on it... FEEL FREE TO TRY & PROVE ME WRONG - re-watch TONS of videos of all the guys you cite and you'll SEE precisely what I'M describing - IT MATTERS ! SEEMS "SMALL" in inconsequential, but it MAKES-or-BREAKS a 1HD. -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS (a 62-yr-old nobody USTA 4.5 who you have no compulsion to pay attention to at all - except I'm right.) ;-)

Well explained! Also great backhands from the 2000's....Gustavo Kuerten,Tommy Haas,Justine Henin,Gaston Gaudio. In the 70's 80's Guillermo Vilas, Gabriela Sabatini.
For sure Daniel

I'm trying to get a more effective backhand and in the process of trying the one hander instead of my two hander. Thank you for posting this!

Yes, it would be great to have have strategies for dealing with nerves and / or anxiety during matches and tournaments. I'm not sure if that format would work for an online tutorial, but I thought that I would ask anyway. Keep up the good work and God bless you two.
Hey guys,
One of the best 1HBH videos I’ve ever come across.
Thanks a lot. The one handed backhand can be a challenge if you don’t know those tips. I tend to slice it but it’s not very effective. Great video.
Thank you for the support Ben

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Yes, for the serve. What is the best grip for the serve would be useful, and tips for the first and second serve. Thanks
LONG-TIME-LISTENER-FIRST-TIME-CALLER-LOVE-THE-SHOW...
...but there's ONE THING you both are NEGLECTING to fully describe, and for me I've discovered it's CRITICAL:
AFTER THE RACQUET DROP THE FACE OF THE RACQUET IS ABSOLUTELY PARALLEL TO THE BACK FENCE AT THE START OF THE ROTATION !!!
:-O
NOT "almost-parallel" (except when they're aiming cross-court) - ABSOLUTELY PARALLEL - IF EVEN FOR A MOMENT !!!
But if you DROP your racquet and it's LESS THAN PARALLEL to the back fence:
- TIMING CHANGES - your maximum power comes AFTER contact;
- POWER CHANGES
- CONTROL CHANGES
- EVERYTHING about the swing feels... FORCED.
YOU NEVER SEE THIS WITH FEDERER - HIS IS EFFORTLESS POWER, and you can trace it ALL back to THIS ONE THING - WHERE THE RACQUET STARTS!
EVERYONE WHO TRIES THIS EXPERIMENT WILL HAVE THE SAME EPIPHANY I DID - EVERYTHING ELSE FALLS INTO PLACE :-)
HOPE you guys ACCEPT MY challenge to EXPERIMENT with this, and then make a VIDEO on it...
-Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS (a 62-yr-old nobody USTA 4.5 who you have no compulsion to pay attention to at all - except I'm right.) ;-)
That’s great that you found your backhand key 💪
